Dlink firmware connectivity issue - WAN port speed set to 100mbps.

Q: Dlink firmware connectivity issue - WAN port speed set to 100mbps.

Thought this deserved it's own thread.

I'm returning to post a follow-up; This appears to be the root cause of my issues... on a number of seperate installs. (Setting the WAN Speed to 10 resolves some connectivity issues.

Dlink has posted the following information as of Sept 23.

The firmware that was shipped with the DI-524 has the WAN port speed set to 100mbps. This can prevent connectivity with some DSL and Cable modems. For this reason we have put together this article which explains how to change the setting so you can get a successful connection. Be assured that this inconvenience will be fixed in the next release of firmware which will be applied to future releases of DI-524.

We sincerely apoligize for the inconvenience!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Does anyone know why whenever i disconnected the AC power (and use battery only), my link speed drops to 10Mbps. when power plugged in, it's 100Mbps. Machine is Dell Latitude E6400 brand new.

Ps: This is not OS specific i don't think, Vista and Xp have this problem so i'd more W7 too.

A:NIC link speed either 10 or 100Mbps

As this issue, (or is it a feature? ), is OS independent I have to assume that it is a bios feature, included to reduce power use on battery power.

If this is correct there may or may not be an option to select this in the power management options in the bios, (normally press DEL on startup), the control may also be available from a specific DELL utility shipped with the laptop.

As this unit is stated as Windows 7 compatible, it is possible that this will be an option in the modified mobility centre that will be shipped with their version of windows 7 when available

I have (2) emachines XP. They were wired together thru a hub and #2 computer could only get to the cable modem & the internet thru the other #1 computer. #1 computer connected to the LAN at 12mbps and the #2 at 10mbps. Now I have removed the hub and installed a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Both computers are hard wired as before. Both computers have an internet connection speed of 100mbps. #1 computer connects to the local area connection at 100mbps; however #2 still only connects at 10mbps as before. Why is #2 limited to 10mbps and how can I increase the speed to 100mbps??

Can the age of (1) network card be the limiting factor?? #1 computer has a Realtek RTL 8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC and #2 has a Realtek RTL 8029 (AS) PCI Ethernet.

A:Dlink Router low connectivity?

I think I'd probably try a factory reset and reconfiguration.
The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Hey all,

I am having issues with my Dell Inspiron 1520 using a Dell 1390 WLan card and my DI-624 router.

My computer randomly loses connection from the router. Sometimes it will disconnect entirely showing the wireless icon with the red "X" and other times it will show as being connected but going to/pinging any site (including the router) times out until I run a repair operation on the wireless card or reboot the wireless card using the WLan on/off switch on the computer.

I thought it was an issue with my laptop (which is part of a domain but not a domain on the wireless network) but other than Group Policy & Net Time refresh errors, there are no network related errors. The laptop also does not have issues on other networks (which are also not a part of the domain the laptop is in)

I tried playing with the router wireless settings including changing the network channel, the WPA2 settings from TKIP to AES and back, DHCP, etc. Its strange because it's almost like the connection times out but I cant figure out how/why.

Any help?

A:DLink DI-624 Wireless Connectivity issues

Some things you can try here.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

I have a Dlink DGL-4300 and two xppro sp2 laptops with Dlink DGL-650 cards to run "super g" mode. I use the windows wireless utility, not DLink's.

Sometimes when I boot the computers one of them cannot obtain an IP address (limited or no connectivity error), the other will be able to. I can plug in an ethernet cable and it works. I reboot the computer and still not working. I reboot the router and it generally fixes things but this is inconvenient for people. When it is not working, I can manually assign an IP address on my laptop and I get an immediate connection. When it is not working, I can connect to my neighbors router without problems. It will work often when I see a very low signal from my neighbor. I have called Dlink and they don't know. I made no changes to my computer really, I used to use a netgear wireless B and never had connection problems.

Any ideas on how to keep consistent connections with my Dlink?

2. Connect the cable from Ethernet port of modem to WAN port on DI-514 router.
2. Then set PPPOE setting username/password.

Provide ipconfig /all command outputs.

I'm having a problem getting a HP JetDirect 175x to work on my network. Here is what's going on:

The HP JetDirect 175x is connected to a HP 1200 Series Printer via USB port. The HP JetDirect is connected to my network using a Cat 5 Cable and RJ-45 Jack.

This is kind of hard to explain but I'll try to do my best.
I have a computer, and the HP Jetdirect connected to a DLink Switch. The DLink switch is connected to another switch which connects our facility.

We did this to allow more network connections in this office with out rewiring. The computer works however the Printer does not. I tested the printer and connected directly to the line coming in to the office and it worked fine. However when connected to the DLink you see the DLink connectivity lights flash but it will not stay on steady.

Any suggestions?

I also have a similar setup in another office but I have an HP 4000 that has an internal card and it works fine.

My Dlink Dir-825 seems to have crapped out on me. I am looking for things I could do to confirm it has indeed died, or if there's some setting that spontaneously changed that would prevent connectivity.

Yesterday, I suddenly lost all internet on 3 PCs (1 running Windows 7, other Vista and other XP) connected via cable to my Dlink. My other devices on the wireless network of my Dlink still had internet though.

This network has been up and running for at least a few months.

I have tried:
Restarting all of the computers
Resetting the Dlink (by unplugging and waiting 20 seconds, and also by pushing the reset button in the back for 20 seconds)
Enabling/disabling MAC address filtering.
Tried connecting a Mac (as in OS X) by cable (to see if it was pc specific. Mac couldn't connect via cable either)
PCs connected directly to Modem get to the internet fine, so I'm thinking it isn't the PC's internal cards taht are the problem.

Sometimes the PCs will say they are connected to Local and Internet, or just Local, but they never really are.
All the lights on the Dlink light up and blink, saying that a connection is established.

Here is the ipconfig /all I get while my vista PC is connected to the Dlink

I recently purchased a DLINK 604 router, but im finding somethings really odd. i used to have a smc router which worked really nicely, speeds were great on the three computers in our household. now when i put together my network on my dlink 604 the speeds are good for about 30 seconds to a minute then boom it slows down so bad that i can change my msn status to busy without waiting for it to change in about 20 seconds. the speeds are terrible. and my internet direct connect is 2000 times faster then this. i have tried everything i took my router to my friends house he hooked it up and it worked perfectly for him were on the same isp too. Rogers cable. but when i brought it back still, terrible speeds, i updated firmware and still terrible speeds. but when i release ip and renew i get that burst of speed for about 30 seconds then i get slow again.

the computers that are being used on thsi network are all running the same OS, windows xp. but i dont think thats the problem since the router knows how to go fast it just shuts that feature off...

Can anyone please please pelase tell me how to fix this, it would be appreciated...

Ok, so to keep it short... I upgraded my connection from 512/512 to 5000/800.

Setup : Laptop -> Wireless connection (WEP ecryption) -> Dlink WBR-1310 router -> Siemens SpeedStream 4200 Modem -> Internet.

I did not notice any increase in speed after upgrading... So I called my ISP and found out that it is the router that somewhat caps my speed. (It downloads faster if I plug my laptop into the Modem directly.)

I called Dlink, and their answer was that they cannot do anything about it. "Everybody has the same problem, when you connect to the router and to the modem, you lose speed. There is nothing we can do about it".

But here is the thing that bugs me. I can download files (Firefox for example) at 500k/s, but as soon as I add my router into the equation, I can only download it at 40k/s.

I can understand that there could be some loss with a router. But losing 90% of your download speed? Come on... !!

I want to know if this is normal, or if I am just dealing with incompetent tech support?

Any recommendations on good routers I can buy that will not literally paralyse my connexion?

Ports are being forwarded from the router to your computer,
so use the local IP on that computer.
You will want to set a static IP on that computer so it doesn't change.
Also make sure those ports and that application are allowed in the
exceptions in the windows firewall or any other firewall you may
be using.

OK so I have just got an ASUS N551JX it has an i5 4200h 8gb ram 128gb ssd and 1tb hdd it cam with win 8.1 where I was getting "the speed of the processor is limited by system firmware" every time I stared gaming on the laptop I upgraded to win 10 after making a backup with asus backtracker and continued to receive the warning in event log every time I started gaming

But then it got interesting when I installed win 7 pro as it seems win 7 does not require the intel CPPC driver and it seems so far than the warning of "the speed of the processor is limited by system firmware" has now gone when gaming.

it also seems that the CPU is not longer being throttled.

Processor 0 in group 0 exposes the following:

2 idle state(s)

16 performance state(s)

0 throttle state(s)

so im guessing the CPPC driver throttles the cpu ?

I first un-installed all of the verizon software (as suggested by dlink). Then went through the steps of configuring the router

I can connect to the internet but the DNS does not seem to work.
i.e i can go to websites using the ip address but not the dns name. The router is able to get an ip address from verizon and is also able to get the ip for the dns server. The PC is assigned a private ip by the dlink router

Dlink advised to re-install tcp/ip on my SMC NIC. I dont think that is the problem.

Any suggestions ?

If there is a DHCP range set up on your router just assign your devices something outside of the DHCP range. If you only need a few devices to get an IP automatically seth the range to something like 200 - 210 and then you will have 1-199 for static...or vice versa, whatever works for you.

You probably are entring the MAC address incorrectly. Some devices require you to separate the hex values with colons and others do not.

I have windows7(x64) , and when i browse the internet , i get supper slow speed , i had some google searches on it and i found it has to do something with the firmware , upgrading the routers firmware version , i had to go to the manufacturers website and download the latest version . Dell just release a new Thunderbolt firmware ,A07
I installed it, and it seems to have destroyed my external HDMI port.
I tested it with different monitors and cables.
On some monitors the colors are inverted (white goes black). Some monitors don't display anything.

I hope the upgrade caused no hardware defect to the HDMI port.
Unfortunately I cannot find the old Thunderbolt firmware to got back.

A:XPS 9550: Latest Thunderbolt firmware upgrade destroys HDMI port

Same. Installed the new firmware successfully, restarted and now my HDMI port is more or less dead. The Laptop still detects the external monitor but it won't output anything.
Tried reinstalling the Intel HD Graphics driver, changing resolution, different cable, different monitor... nothing helps.

I have been trying without success to connect a Tivo wireless n adapter to my Dlink dir-655 router. I've followed all the adapter trouble shooting steps without success. I've tried connecting via WPS, and manual configuration neither will work. The only way I have been able to connect is to turn the wireless security off. I have other wireless n devices connected as well as wireless g so I know the ssid and passphrase keys are being inputted correctly.

My current settings are:

Enable wireless on
802.11 mode mixed
Enable auto channel scan
Transmission rate best
Channel width auto
Security WPA-personal
WPA mode (Auto WPA or WPA2)
Cipher TKIP and AES
Group key update interval 3600

I used to have AT&T Uverse internet service. When using their service they gave me a D-Link DWA-140 range booster. I recently got a Nighthawk AC1900 smart wifi router model R7000 and now am using Charter internet. I have been using the D-Link range booster and was curious if it was compatible with my Nighthawk AC1900 router as far as capable speeds so I asked the question in a yahoo answers forum and I received the following response. "You CAN use the device BUT it is a Draft 802.11n Wireless USB Adapter thus it can not and will not deliver 802.11AC speeds that your AC1900 uses! The 1900 will simply revert to "N" speeds and those are much slower than 1900mbs!" If that is the case then obviously I don't want to use it if it will slow speeds down. When I unplug the D-Link range booster and restart my computer I can't locate any options for WiFi on my windows computer running windows 7 premium. Do I have to reset my Netgear Nighthawk router in order to see wifi options again? Thanks in advance for any assistance anybody can offer me.

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware.  I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor.  I am trying to connect all 3 via display port.  However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors?  When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator?  Is there a firmware update somewhere?

A:Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

The E6520 comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000.  The specs for that GPU are buried in the specs for the CPU itself, but if you go to ark.intel.com and look up your CPU, then scroll down to the graphics section and verify that it shows Intel HD Graphics 3000, you'll find that that GPU only supports 2 independent displays, which is why you see mirroring.  More recent Intel GPUs do indeed support 3 displays, but no Intel GPUs to my knowledge yet support 4.
If your E6520 has the NVIDIA discrete GPU, I can't find any information on NVIDIA's site about maximum number of supported displays, but based on your experience I would assume it's 2 unless indicated otherwise.

I have a brand new XPS 15 9560, which finally came in the 28th of November. However, I currently experience problems with the right USB port. When hooking up an external HDD, it keeps connecting and disconnecting. At first, this rendered the HDD useless, setting it to a RAW format and losing all data. I got it back to work eventually and was under the assumption that the drive just went bad. However, i started to have the same problems with my alternative drives when connected to that port.
Narrowing down the problem, I found that the left port maintains a steady transfer speed of 122 MB/s ish, while the right keeps powering up and down. This means that data transfer wil go up to 60 MB, drop down. The disk will reconnect and the same happens. Remark: There is no sound of a physical re-connection (the well known connect/disconnect sound).
Furthermore, i have found that multiple people have this issue:

XPS 15 (9560) - External USB 3.0 hub disconnecting from right USB port
I also followed all directions given within this topic, but the problem still persists.
Do you have any other ideas?
