I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

Virtual machine OS is Windows XP Pro. Vmware version is 6.
Real shared folder is on another PC with XP Pro.
PROBLEM DEFINITION - EXAMPLE:
I create a New Folder from virtual machines Windows explorer in a real shared folder on another PC. Then wish to rename it to all lowercase like new folder.
It DOESNT WORK!

But when I rename New Folder to a different name like New Folder1 and then rename to new folder (all lowercase), IT WORKS!

This problem is important because I create case sensitive scripts and must save on a file server.

Have you got any useful SOLUTION for this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I've a broadband link of MTNL with D-Link DSL 502T modem, and a m/c with Windows XP as primary OS and over it running VMWare server ver 1. I''ve loaded Ubuntu 10 server over VMWare and made it as the DNS / Web Server, I've got domain name registered against a static IP.

Now the problem I'm facing is that whenever I try to open the web-page of my web-server, I receive Modem Configuration page instead of web page I loaded on the server, although my Apache 2 server is running fine.

Can some one help me tell how to configure so that it directly fetches the web pages loaded in the web server instead of modem configuration page.

Thanks and regards

I don't need help, I just wanted to post my solution.

I recently setup the latest version of Vmware player on Ubuntu 13.04 and found myself unable to download the tools for it. error try again later or something along those lines. I searched about online for answers but google only presented 1 relevant topic and it didn't have a solution. Anyways I've discovered how to get around this, it's quite obvious really, I feel dumb for taking so long to figure it out. Lauch VMware player as root, then the tools will download successfully. Hopefully this will save someone a world of heart-ache.

Will I have any issues if I upgrade to Windows 7 64?

My computer came with Vista 32bit

A:Went from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 32bit.

It more than likely can do x64 without knowing something about your hardware no one can be certain. Most chips made since the introduction of vista do support 64 bit though. The only real question is if your cpu runs 64 bit instructions or not.

Hi all

To install W8 developer edition (current version) as a VM with vmware workstation you have to download / upgrade to version 8. Version 7.1X and earlier won't work. Vmware player (current version) gives same problem as vmware workstation 7.1x.

When you install choose W7 as the OS (there isn't a W8 option yet not surprisingly) and select I will install the OS later.

Then select the DVD device in the vm serttings as a virtual ISO (you don't need to burn a physical DVD) and boot from the device.

Then it will install more or less as W7.

Ignore any prompt for a product key if it appears. I wasn't asked for one but some people seem to get a request for a product key when attempting to install W8 as a virtual machine.

You can download a free trial version for 30 days from the vmware site. ( it may be that eventually version 7.1x will work or the next upgrade of W8 will work so unless you want to upgrade to version 8 of vmware workstation I'd start with downloading the trial).

Then it installs OK

I don't have enough privileges yet to upload screenshot but it installs fine.

I've also posted a suggestion on how to remove / disable the metro gui for those that want a more "classical" Windows look - you can see the post in the W7 Forum until I can get approval to post in the relevant section on this Forum on customising W8

Before I upgraded my 1 year old Asus laptop to win10 from win8.1, I made a backup with Macrium of my win8.1 installation which I used it successfully twice to restore 8.1 due to problems I had with the win10 upgrade. For info, the laptop has 16GB Ram, one 120GB SSD (C:\), one 700GB HDD (D:\) and one 1.4TB USB HDD where I keep all my backups.

I also made a win8.1 OS backup on a USB stick with the Asus utility since my laptop did not come with an OS on a DVD. Now win10 is working fine and I used VMware to install XP Pro and that went fine too. I use XP Pro for some old utilities which do not run in Win8.1 or 10

I decided to use VMware to create another virtual machine to install win8.1 but that?s where I run into problems. When I created the new virtual machine I choose to install the OS later since I don?t have a DVD or image of the win8.1 OS and then I used the Macrium Windows PE DVD I have to boot to the new virtual machine, found my win8.1 backup which I used successfully before and clicked install.

The install took about 40 minutes and created lots of files under C:\users\myname\docs\Vmware\win8.1 but when I re boot it does not boot to win8.1. It says

PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE Rom

I guess for some reason the win8.1 files do not include the boot sector and I wonder why. Inside the windows PE I can see the boot files from the win8.1 USB stick but I don?t know the DOS commands to copy the files neither I know where to copy them ... Read more

A:VMware in Windows 10

Actually, what you're attempting to do falls afoul of Microsoft licensing. Since you have upgraded to Windows 10 by virtue of the existing 8.1 installation, you cannot then take that installation (virtualised or not), and then use it again. It would be like taking a DVD, installing an OS on two separate machines, but using the same product key.

Dear sirs,
I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro Joystick, and I am attempting to install it through the adapter of my laptop Toshiba, and along with that I intended to plug the USB chord into the VMWare application where I have Windows Vista where I play old

the device that I was installing, but it did not, niether does Windows 8 (the current software that I am using) recognize the joystick when I plug it in through USB. Can you give me the steps on how to successfully get both Windows Vista, and Windows 8 to

Hello, The environment is as follows:
Windows 8.1 Pro with certain security updates installed causes an issue for Standard users using VMWare Workstation 8 where the mouse clicks that are meant for a VM, are not registered by the VM every time, sometimes it takes 4 to 5 clicks to register in
the VM and then other times you have to move the mouse outside the VM window and bring it back in for the mouse clicks to register. This issue is not present for Administrator users.
I have already narrowed down one update specifically that causes this issue, by uninstalling all security updates, the problem went away, as I installed one update at a time back on to the system, update KB3087039 triggered the issue, I thought this
was a resolution, to just keep that update off my end users machines, but when I installed the rest of the security updates, excluding that update, the issue returned.
I could uninstall and reinstall and narrow this down further, but my main concern is that one, this may create security issues that these updates are intended to fix, and two, that would create a lot of administrative overhead, especially if more security
updates in the future will cause the issue to return.
I would like for Microsoft to investigate this issue and either fix the problem with these updates or come up with a new update I can deploy that fixes this problem, if such an update already exists, I would greatly appreciate to be pointed in its direction
either by KB number o... Read more

If you are using VMWare Workstation with Windows 8.1 you will have to reinstall it. I attempted a repair first but that didn't work so I removed and reinstalled, and now all is working just fine. VMWare player worked without having to do a reinstall. . . good luck.

A:Windows 8.1 and VMWare Workstation

I did an uninstall/reinstall of VMWare Player 5.0.2 after upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1.
VMWare and the VMs ran OK but the Windows upgrade messed up the virtual network adapters.

The upgrade to Windows 8.1 also reset many of the preferences in my local user account, including such things as File Explorer settings, RDC default folder, Send To items, etc.
Overall relatively painless, but probably a bit confusing and frustrating for anyone non-technical, as once again the upgrade attempts to force you into creating a new online user account.

I run almost everything in VMs though, the only software installed on the Windows 8.x host is MS Office HS 2007, VMWare, and WinZip. So I wasn't expecting too much difficulty with the upgrade.

So far I do like the upgrade changes though...

I've made a copy of my Windows 8 installation to run as a Virtual Machine in VMware Player. It's telling me I need to reactivate with a new serial number as my key is in use. I really only plan to use it for testing tweaks and mods that might be risky for my proper Windows 8 install so it will hardly be used.

I can use the slmgr.vbs ?rearm command to give me an extra 90 days, I'm just wondering what will happen when I run out of time, will the VM refuse to boot or can it be continued to be used.

Thanks

Hi,

I have Win 7 and had a pretty severe crash earlier in the week that I couldn't recover from nor explain so I did a complete reinstall. Everything with the reinstall of windows seemed to be going ok then I installed vmware and backtrack. Everything worked fine originally running BT.

To complicate things, I installed vmware from my desktop and then installed backtrack from a copy I had on my windows.old directory but then I accidentally deleted the BT files when cleaning up some space. After that VMware would cause the BSOD (which flickers and is unreadable). I tried to uninstall/reinstall VMware but that hasn't helped, I keep getting the same problem. I wonder if deleting the files is causing this or just a coincidence? Any help would be appreciated. I've attached the dump files.

Nothing else has caused the computer to act up so far.

I have a gateway MT 6452, AMD Turion x64 with on board Radeon xpress 1150 video. I also have it set up for triple booting vista, win7 and Lucid.

Thanks,

Tom

I took help from this website:-
How to install Windows 10 in VMware Workstation - Howali.com

I am confused with two things;-

The first one is what is Split virtual disk into multiple files. I have read that it reduce performance that's why I am more worried about it.

Whether it will affect my pc performance, what if I select Store virtual disk as a single file. Is this option good to go for.

The second confusion is about hardware configuration. Because I am using a Dual core pc with 4 gb of RAM. What would be the best customization option if I want to install Windows 10?

Is it possible to use a Windows XP .ISO file with the free VMware player? I know how to use VMware player to boot a bootable ISO, and it works with others (like BackTrack2). But with a Windows XP ISO file (its a bootable XP installation disk ISO), it gives an error saying it can't find the hardrive for the installation.

Anyone know how I can do this successfully with just a virtual CD image (not a physical CD) and without the need to install anything extra? Much appreciation.

I'm trying to install VMware Workstation 11 on a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine and I get the following error:

I am most definitely using 64 bit Windows 7. The installer should be fine because I was able to install it onto another Windows 7 Pro machine. I did have Workstation 9 and VMware player previously installed at different times on this machine, and they were uninstalled prior to the attempt to install Workstation 11.

Any ideas? I haven't found any similar issues on Google and I'd need to purchase a support contract from VMware to get any support from them.

Hi
just testing W8 RP with HYPER-V. Seems that if you enable this VMware workstation no longer functions.

I think from what I remember this worked OK in the Consumer preview.

So is this a VMware or Ms bug -- I'd suspect it's VMware's bug because you could install VMware AFTER setting up your desired Windows 8 environment.

Which is a pity since if it was an MS bug it would be on a fix list before RTM / Release candidate builds.

Cheers
jimbo

A:VMware or Windows 8 defect with HYPER-V

They cannot share VT-x from what I've found out.

If you already run a virtualisation environment such as VMWare or VirtualBox (with 64-bit VMs only), they will no longer work. The reason is that the Hypervisor doesn't expose the VT-x extension to it's virtual machines (including your new root), and so other virtualisation products can't be ran with full effectiveness. The obvious workaround to this problem is to convert your VMWare/VirtualBox VMs to Hyper-V, and import them using the Hyper-V Manager.

[...] By enabling Hyper-V on your machine, your root OS (which you use) will now run on top of a Hypervisor, which means it's essentially virtualised. It's not in the same sense as a virtual machine, as your OS will still have direct hardware access to essentials such as graphics cards for gaming etc.

I am running windows 10. I have a virtual machine in VMware that has been running Mac OSX. Everything was working perfectly. Today there was an update to the Mac operating system so I installed it. Now the screen resolution in my Virtual machine is small and will not fill the screen. The best match so far has been to "stretch guest" which fills it up height wise but now i have thick black bars on both sides and i can not change the resolution. I didn't have Time Machine setup so I can't revert back to what it was and I have files on here that are important. Any help to make it fit full screen would help me out a lot!~

I'm using vmware workstation 7.0 or 7.1 and when I downloaded a video file it gave me the blue screen of death. Now the blue screen of death is gone but the problem I'm dealing with now is that a looking for hardware is always showing up. And at the beginning it says that it's not a real boot and that it has to load from c:/windows (in a black screen before the windows xp pro starts) Also I can access the internet on my windows 7 but not on my windows xp pro (vmware workstation) And the sound doesn't work.

I recently purchased a new machine that I will also be using to monitor the network for my employers. The organization has a hybrid of zero-clients and thick-clients on one domain connected by a WAN. For executives and physicians, I have given them the instructions for downloading/installing VMware on their machines in order for them to handle urgent work issues while away (e.g. vacation). Thus far, all such machines have been Windows 7.

My new machine has Windows 8. It is an HP Envy dv6t Quad Laptop purchased from Costco.com. It features:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.4 GHz16 GB RAM64-bit OS

I went to the same URL on our server I directed others to and downloaded 64-bit View Client with Local Mode (VMware View Portal 4.6). The download seemed to have arrived fine, and nearly installs fine, but at the last moment announces "Rolling back action" in the install box. The images below relate the sequence just mentioned.

I have tried: 1) deleted the download and trying again, and 2) removing all fire walls on my machine and home wi-fi network. Those measures achieved the same result. At first, I concluded it was "a Windows 8 thing" and was content to wait for a some Windows patch or VMware update. Since then (1 week ago), I have noticed plenty of people in forums discussing their use of VMware on Windows 8 machines.

Definitely stuck and in need of help/recommendations.

Thanks,
Perplexed Pete

A:VMware View Client 4.6 vs Windows 8

Hello Peter, welcome to the forums.

That's a good machine there.

First off all, the file you need must be a 64bit one.

A possibility still remains: Win8 is not compatible with older VMWare products (here is the case as well unless log-files were produced and the error is not compatibility related). You can try compatibility mode (right click on the installer) - Win7 but I recommend VMware View 5 or 5.1 or VMWare (Horizon) View 5.2 or just try to see if one of those versions work.

General link:
https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/inf...mware_view/5_1

Clients installers link:
https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/det...=268&rPId=3612

Make sure you install a 64bit installer as the OS is x64. If Win8 is Pro make sure Hyper-V is disabled from the Windows Feature list (see Programs and Features in Control Panel).

Once again if you prefer the older version, 4.6, try to run it in compatibility mode Windows 7 and see any possible log-files for errors, somewhere in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp and/or %appdata%. Those are links you can check in File Explorer.

If windows is installed on the C: drive, as usual, check C:\ProgramData\VMware for any logs and settings related to VMWare programs.
A newer version might fix it and in that case you don't need to dig through log-files. Replace C: with the respective letter if the System is on another drive letter.

Good luck.

I've attached the zip

I also ran check disk, no errors.

Hello-

Running a bunch of Windows Server 2003 servers on ESX 2.5.
Most everything runs dreamily except for a nagging Netbackup problem on one of the 11 virtual servers. I am fully convinced that the problem with Netbackup is due to a NIC driver. If it were a stand alone server I would simply upgrade the driver and I'm certain all would be well.

Does anyone know whether I can upgrade the NIC driver from the Windows side while using VMWARE? Does the vm software see all the devices on each virtual machine as seperate? The NIC is configured as a vlance.
Thanks for any help...

Hi, I've installed last week VMware on my laptop with Windows 7 home premium edition (Italian version). Then I've installed XP professional (English version licenced) from my Cd. Everything was going fine. Today I would install an Xp software but on the programm list I cannot find the VMware software, it disappeared, I've looking in the Windows/programs to find an exe file for it without finding one. Anyone is exper about this software, could it be hidden for some reason ? How can I run it. thanks

Osea

A:VMware software disappeared from Windows 7

Large programs don't just disappear.

What is the complete version of Windows? Windows 7 Home Premium.....??? 32-bit or 64-bit?
What is the full name of the VMware software you installed? VMware Player? Workstation? Server? What version?
Where did you save the Windows XM VM to?
