ThinkCentre M58p: motherboard USB connector pinout, card reader

Q: ThinkCentre M58p: motherboard USB connector pinout, card reader

Hello Forum,

i see a 11 pin yellow male usb connector on my m58p board,
i have some m58p and one m90p and i think a m91 or m93p,,
questions:
-have all thinkcentre pcs this 11 pin connector, same on m90 and 91p?
- is there any possibility to connect a newer usb device to that 11 pin connector?
- is there any adapter to usb 2.0 or maybe 3.0?
or can i only connect a normal female usb device like a cardreader with 9 pins to 11 pin connector with not using the two most right pins?

thx, bernd

thx for informations!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ThinkCentre m58P and have tried 2 cards in the machine to no avail. One just wasnt recognised the other gave bios bleeps. I want to turn this PC into a media streamer from as NAS server and need a HDMI output compatible Graphics card for this machine? Can anyone recommend whats on the whitelist or fully functions wih the M58p?

A:ThinkCentre M58p Graphics Card Whitelist

Can't recommend a card, but just wanted to make sure you knew that you don't have to have a graphics card with an HDMI port on it. The signaling for HDMI and DVI are identical, just different connectors. I have a cable that has a male DVI connector on one end and a male HDMI connector on the other. I connect from the DVI port of an ADD-2R card directly to my TV. There are also DVI/HDMI converters that accomplish this same task using the converter and a standard HDMI cable. Check the parts listing for your machine on the support site to see which graphics cards are supported for your model.

Hello, I had an old [but reliable] ThinkCentre M58p lying around and I recently thought of upgrading it [for a media center with a some gaming capabilties] from, some more, aging [but working] parts I have. So:1. I've replaced the Intel dual E8400 3Ghz with a quad Q9650 3Ghz [I have a 95W HSF] - Works perfectly2. Replaced the stock PSU with a 620Watts, SeaSonic - Works flawlessly3. Installed windows 10 and all the devices4. Finally, installed a EVGA GTX 770 2Gb into the PCI-E slot - This is the weird issue part Now, for the PCI-E card to get recognized during the boot, I had to switch the main output form IGD [Integrated Graphics Device] to PEG [PCI Express Graphics], and it works! The system boots up from the PCI-E slot, and with the drivers installed, everything works and looks great. Easy, or so it seems... As soon as I restart the PC there's no signal, from the PCI-E slot anymore, and in order to boot again from the PCI-E card, I have to:- pull the card out- boot the machine from the onboard VGA [no need to change the BIOS settings though]- shut down- plug the PCI-E card back in- turn it on Then it works again. Games run great, the PC is cool and quiet. Until I power it off... Each time, I have to repeat the process in order to get a signal from the PCI-E slot... Has anyone happened to come across this kind of issue and knows the cause for this? BTW, I've tried a different card [GTX 570] and the results were the same. I have a connector on my mobo for USB 2.0, It lists 2 pairs of pins like
5V, 7-, 7+, GND and 5V, 8-, 8+, GND

Then it shows a single pin at the end of the connector labeled NC.

One my USB from panel connector I have 2 sockets matching the 2 pair of pins on the mobo USB connector. Then there is a single wire in the same bundle from the fron panel USB socket with the 2 connectors that is labeled GND. Does the single wire from teh front panel socket that is labeled GNDgo on the mobo pin labled NC?

Hello all, I have a Z420 and am looking to replace the standard PSU which I know uses a proprietary 18-pin ATX power supply header, and I was hoping that I could get help with the pinout of the header so I can make a standard ATX 24-pin to 18-pin adapter given that the pinout for it does not seem to be provided in the support pages for the Z420 (from what I have seen at least).In my search I have found the Z210 pinout for the ATX power connector which is also an 18-pin header, but I do not want to just assume that they share the same pinout and possibly bork my system. I have also found an adapter made just for this purpose from moddiy, however without any pinout information I do not just want to blindly trust them either.Thanks in advance for any and all help.

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre M58 & M58p: yes, is compatible with GT 1030

I'm a huge fan of the GT 1030, but haven't seen any posts here on it and the M58/p.   You may be the first to try it, however the GT 1030 does work with the next gen model, M90/p (and newer), and I haven't seen a case where a GT 730 worked (on systems with PCIe ver. 2.0 -- GT 730 is known to work on M58) and the GT 1030 did not (meaning it has good backward compatibility, unlike AMD graphics cards.)  That doesn't guarantee that it will work, but there's a very high probability.  I hope that helps.

Edit:  Earlier versions of the M58 and all M57 have PCIe ver 1.1.  I would not recommending using a PCIe 3.0 card (GT 1030) in a 1.1 slot (PCIe 2.0 cards like GT 730 do work in 1.1 slots.).  Check your Intel Chipset specs to see which version is supported.

Edit 2:  I'm now thinking that all M58 had version 2.0 PCIe. M58 did have 2 generations of Intel processors, but I believe the Chipset stayed the same.

Dear community, I found a M90p USFF system board in the garbage, fully functional when tested. But without the case or anything else. Repairing, especially old hardware, is something I really value: make something work without having to buy new stuff. I was planning to build my own home-theater mini-pc, and already have standard USB-Audio Front I/O panels, and power buttons, and almost all the rest.Lucky me, so I only need the heatsink, power adapter, and the pinout for USB, Audio and power (the system board was set to restore power automatically, so I could test. But eventually, I want to switch it on with a power button like a normal computer). - I found https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/ThinkCentre-front-panel-connector-power-audi...but the number of pins is not correct.- Pictures I found of the Front I/O 45J9567 are not good enough to really see anything. All wires are within a plastic tube, so no luck either. Can somebody help me out? Are there schematics of the system board? Nowhere I found information of the pins. AC97/HD audio headers look differently, and USB headers normally have a 5+4 pinout (with the M90p USFF it's only 4+4). The hardware manuals I found, only describe the set of headers, but not the exact pinout. kind regards,Tim

Hi,

I've just purchased a Mitsumi fdd/7-1 card reader unit for my old Dell 4550 so I can plug in camera flash cards.
It is supposed to connect to the "motherboard header".
I can't see anywhere which looks like where this goes or fits. I've followed the cabling from both the front and back USB ports to where they are connected and no luck.

I've googled up some articles saying that Dell has non-standard connections but I'm not sure.

Anyone out there installed a off-the-shelf card reader to a Dell?

Thanks,

I just put a system together with a Compaq Presario 5000T motherboard (motherboard model 686C3 with P-III 933) and am having trouble getting the front case USB ports to work. The header on the board looks like a standard 9 pin header but no matter how I connect to port cables I get a "unrecognized USB device" message in Win XP. I've measured voltages on the pins and get 5 volts on the first and third pins instead of the standard first and fourth. I've rewired the connector on the cable to the front panel accordingly but no luck. Seems like no matter how I arrange the wires into the header I get the same message when I plug my thumb drive in. The thumb drive reads fine when plugged into the rear USB connectors on the board.

I know it's usually a waste of time trying to make use of old Compaq parts, but other than this problem the board actually hooked up and runs great in a new mini ATX case. If I can get this little annoyance figured out I'll have a pretty decent little machine for cheap.

Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to TSG Forums

Well if it says "Unrecognized USB Device" then its plugged in right because otherwise XP wouldn't even see it.

If you haven't installed SP2, do so, that usually solves any USB related problems. Worked for me.

Does someone know where I can get the pinout for the 10 pin header called "PB/LED" labeled P5 (connector) on the MS-7860 Ver 1.2. (Pro 400 G1 MT)? I have seen manuals that avoid that connector. Note the "missing or key" pin is exactly in the middle (pin #6). I have seen many diagrams with the key or missing pin at one end. That is not my board. This is where the cable containing the power switch (not to be confused with power supply) meets the Motherboard. I am replacing a failed Motherboard (three Months out of new Warranty with no physical indications of damage) with an ASRock H97M Pro4. I has every other connector perfectly wired. The only one I will have to "convert" is P5 (on the very outside edge of the SATA port corner). Thank you for your help.

The problem is that I don't know which pins should be placed where. I can't find the manual.

And the front audio is even more confusing. I can't tell which pin is what number since the one with the arrow also has a number 2 next to it. Any help would be appreciated.

the pin out should be standard as follows: 2 rows of 10 pins with gaps. Providing you do not leave things connected permanently you cannot damage anything - it might stop but thats all. Pin 1 is commonly the furthest away from any corner.
1 = pwr led +
3 = pwr led -
5 = pwr led -
7 = null
9 = null
11 = null
11 = null
13 = spkr
15 = null
17 = null
19 = spkr
next row
2 = HDD +
4 = HDD -
6 = null
8 = null
10 = null
12 = pwr
14 = pwr -
16 = null
18 = reset
20 = reset -

hope this helps.

I have an Emachines T2482 computer that I bought before coming to finland. They are very bad with power supplies going out as I have just read from the internet. My dad had almost the same model as I have and it crashed after only two years. He had a replacement motherboard put in his PC but he is a very old man and he did not realize that the guy had screwed in the monitor cable to the computer and one day he was trying to remove it and broke the video pin connector. Last time I was there I carefully removed the video pin connector so that I could use the motherboard and/or components if I needed them on mine. He bought another PC. So now my motherboard and/or power supply has crashed as well and I have his motherboard here with me. I want to try and connect the new motherboard to to my PC but since there is not a video pin connector I am thinking of buying a cheap video card to put in the PCI slot. My question is how can I get the PC to work that way? Is it so that the PC should boot up even though the video card driver is not installed yet and I will see something on the monitor or is it so that I will most probably not be able to use the motherboard if it only has a PCI video card installed? The motherboard has a power connector for the graphic card next to the slot.

Is there any reason I should connect the power for the card to the power connector on the board instead of directly to the power supply?

A:Graphic card power to power supply or connector on motherboard?

First time I have ever seen that feature. I like it. I'm thinking that is a neat/easy way to partially eliminate cable clutter from the PSU. Give it a shot, you can always revert to PSU cable if you wish.

I found a lot of people searching for this information... since I was unable to find it, I tested the front panel connectors by myself, and that is what I found:

Greetings all...I am curently in the process of transferring the "guts" (motherboard, i5 4460, etc) to a different case.  However, I am running into some difficulty getting the new separate front panel connectors of the new case matched up to the "proprietary" pin block where the black connector that was in the old Lenovo case used to go. I will include images of the motherboard connector along with the connectors from the new case I need to hook up. The only info on the motherboard is on a sticker which reads MB FRU W8s (I will include a photo for reference). Any help is MUCH appreciated!
