Issue with HDMI sound detection - unusual situation

Q: Issue with HDMI sound detection - unusual situation

Good day,

I have an unusual situation with my HDMI and would like some advice or ideas.

I have 2 TVs with HDMI input, both LG (I believe 32LH20R and 22LH20R).

When I connect my hdmi to 22lh20r, the sound device says "not connected".
When I connect to 32lh20r, everything works fine.
If I connect to 22lh20r after connecting to 32lh20r, the sound device is now detected!
But when I reset my computer, the sound from 22lh20r says "not connected" again.

I tested two notebooks on it so far, and could reproduce on both. One with a GeForce 9600M GT and the other with a GeForce GT 540M.

I think that this could be some issue with the TV, but since it work after connecting to the other TV, I was thinking if there is a way to force the detection, or to force the driver from one TV to the other, or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Additional information:

I tryed to override EDID, with phoenix edid editor and monitor asset manager, but had no success with that. Turns out that they only collect the first 128 bytes from the edid, leaving the CEA extensions out, and this would be where the EDID stores whether the monitor has audio or not. =/

Also, it seems like it's not possible to "force" the playback device to "be detected", or at least I didn't find a way so far.

If anyone could help with EDID overriding, or this way to trick windows into believing HDMI sound is connected, I would appreciate a lot!

Hello all, First, I apologize for my english, I know I'm not the best at this language but I hope you will understand my problem.  I've got a Thinkpad T560. This laptop was with Windows 7 and I upgraded it to Windows 10. Unfortunately, when I plug my HDMI cable, I have the image on the second computer but no sound. All my drivers are up to date.Furthermore,  I can't find the HDMI device (my TV) in the taskbar  (I mean in the right-bottom corner).  I have tried a lot of solutions:- Update drivers- Click on the sound icon and show the disabled devices in the playback menu- Update drivers from Device Managers etc..  Could you please help me to find a solution ? Thanks.

To enable movie viewing on 55" LCD TV

This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices. (Video always works but the audio is says not connected)

To get the HDMI Audio detected, I have to....
First - On my TV I have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC
Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable. (I can hear the Windows 7 found hardware sound)
Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device (everything works great)
I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off. I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port by plugging and un[lugging so often. This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work.

This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant. All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today.

Maybe it is the Plug&Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process (as above)

Video = ATI 4550

A:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

I recently purchased a HP dv6-1030us with 64 bit Vista. Love it however I have sound distortion when listening to CDs using windows media player or listeing to music on iTunes. There are "breaks" or "hiccups" in the music. Sometimes it's barely noticeable but there, and sometimes more pronounced. The music isn't smooth. The sound distortion occurs even when I listen to the music via headphones or use external speakers as well. I have called HP Support and they have altered sound settings, deleted/added the sound driver, and updated the BIOS, however the issue still exists. I returned the laptop for a new one and the same thing occurs with the new laptop as well.

HELP! Thanks!

I have a very unusual issue. This computer is a laptop that I have purchased from a pawn shop. It had no software(like boot disk or window install disk), just the computer and the charger. Additionally, the pawn shop did not wipe the hard disk or attempt to clean it in any way. Which is all fine, but after getting it home, I have discovered a multitude of viruses and trojans and as a side issue it is using Windows 7, but says that the demo version has expired. I cannot find any other operating system on the computer. So...long story short, if I can get it cleaned up and usable, it is a way better laptop than the old one I have been using. If I cannot I will take it back to the pawn shop and get my money back. I have 14 days to see if this works, and having come here before for help, I know you all can work wonders. Help please!!! :)

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7000 is the beta build, it will time out, as you've discovered. If you want to use this machine, I'd suggest you purchase Windows 7 retail, format the machine and start over. If that's not feasible for you, take it back to the pawn shop.

Windows 7 is still a new OS, many of our tools do not work on it yet. Windows 7 machines which have already become infected so soon can't really have a lot of data to lose, in my view. Format, and start over.

I was about to change the wallpaper on my desktop and noticed that there were dozens of photos that have appeared in the select list that I never selected before. These are spread over many folders, so I thought I would do a browse from the menu, to find out where they were as I have used search to find them unsuccessfully.

When selecting browse form the desktop property menu, It showed as a subfolder a folder RECYCLERyy, so I thought I would search for this folder.

It does not appear in my search (I have selected show hidden files and folders)

Any idea what this file is??

A:RECYCLERyy....unusual situation

This is where a utility called freehide.exe stores the folder(s) you choose to hide - great for keeping sensitive docs etc away from nosey pc-sharers. folder itself has two accents over the y - not sure if this will show up for you RECYCLER’’

be sure to refresh the explorer window as hidden folders can still be accessed sometimes if you leave the window open............

it works well in xp sp2 and vista home premium.

I could not find any trace at all of hidden files/folders in explorer or dos.

norton spots hidden files as it searches for bugs.

my backup software spots them too - not sure whether it saves these files though.

not sure if more savvy pc people can find the hidden stuff?

I am really trying to get used to Windows 7 and it is getting better. I have a dual boot which works well. I have several installs of XP of various editions. I use Acronis True Image a lot to make images.

I use only the one Windows 7 but several Acronis True Images of various XP's - Corporate, Home, etc.

My problem is, I have the one XP that I then installed Seven and this is the dual boot. I sure don't want to go about the dual boot by re-installing Seven with all the others. Is there an easy way to do this?

What I thought is to restore an XP image, then putting the what makes the dual boot files in and saving that as an image. Then on to the next XP image. But how would I do this?

I have read up on dual boot software but I need something very simple. And if I ever need to restore an image - either XP or Seven I need to know that it will still dual boot.

A:Dual Boot as an unusual situation

Best way to do a dual boot is by using Super F-Disk and GAG. This is basically a dual boot with hidden partitions, so that a) if one partition goes down, you still have a fully functional other partition that has been unaffected, and b) when that part does go down, you can do a reinstall on that part without affecting the other part and it's OS.

Just ran across an unusual situation. If you go to Google, select Images tab, type Gif into search field you will get many .gif files displayed. Now right click select anyone and click save as. You will notice the .gif file select save as option is missing. At least on all my machines it is. Now if you double click just the image which will take you to another page at google with a slightly larger image and part of the gifs home page exposed you can right click the slightly larger image at top and select save as and the .gif save format is available.

Previously I was able to save as gif directly off the first Google search screen and not have to go deeper in site.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Please confirm.

I have a customer with six Dell Optiplex 745 PCs. All the admin passwords were reset and I don't know them.

The problem is the machine is not a Windows 7 machine from the Dell website so no drivers for boot images. I have tried a few. The Linux ones do work.

So what I tried.

1. Ophcrack: Got a few of the machines. I then got all the tables you can get and verified they were running but cannot guess the passwords of the rest of the PCs. The pay libraries are $1k so that is out of the question.

2. Hiren's bood CD. Won't work as no driver for the controller.

3. Asunsoft Password recovery (trial but would pay the $20) could not see controller.

So here is my question: If I install the HD as a second drive in a working Win7 PC, can I edit the registry on the second drive and remove the admin password as I have seen in the Linux rescue images. I would rather work in a Win envion as opposed to Linux doing registry editing

Hi there,So. I had a Compaq Presario CQ61, which recently died. I placed the hard drive into a friend's old laptop, a Lenovo 3000 N200 (type 0769). I know it's an old one, but there may be others who encounter the problem. There must be two versions of the graphics card and one is hidden. The problem is due to change of plaform - AMT, ATI, Intel and so on. The most likely cause is the driver for the PCI bus. Although it is the same chip it pręcent it self with the name of the old driver.See Devices and locate the PCI bus, it might be called something else eg. ati-PCI. See Details and go to Drivers and Details. Is ther listed two drivers? The one called psi.sys is MS's universal driver, it works all over. Click Update Driver and go to Windows / System32 / Drivers / pci.sys and click select. Restart the PC and the problem should be solved.

I had a laptop that recently went bad, but I had previously used Acronis Migrate Easy to make an exact copy of the HDD onto a USB hard drive. I just bought a used laptop that has a fresh copy of XP on it. I would like to use File and Settings Transfer Wizard but obviously don't have both an existing and "previous" computer to do so. I've tried to use the wizard on the new laptop and point it toward various files on the USB hard drive but it won't do it. First, is there a way to get the wizard to run in such a situation? Second, if the wizard is not a possibility, is there a way to get much or most of the information on these kinds of settings from the backup drive to this new computer?

This is my first time on bleepingcomputer after hearing rave reviews about how helpful the community is. I am in a somewhat strange situation and I want to just briefly go over what has happened and then hear your thoughts on what I should think now.

A few days ago I got a virus, a bad virus. I think I tried to watch some random video stream and all of a sudden my computer flipped out pretty badly despite having an up to date Norton 2010. I immediately feared the worst and freaked out like I always do, only this time it was justified. I ended up paying $140 for dell solutions to remotely connect to my computer to try to fix the issue. My first move was to Norton to try to fix it, but the virus made it impossible to visit a norton webpage and so it was impossible for them to remote connect. While I am a newbie to this forum I do already anticipate that people will scoff at me going to Norton and Dell for help and paying such money to boot. But I was desperate, and the money was not nearly as important for me as getting my computer fixed as soon as possible.

So 'luckily' dell was able to access their remote connect page so I went ahead and paid for their service. First I was given a technician who seemed horrible. She worked on my computer for like 4 hours (telling me midway she was done in 30 minutes and would definitely have it all cleaned) only to do nothing. I knew she was an idiot because she literally tried to do the same things over and o... Read more

A:Is Dell Solutions Premium Crap? Should I feel secure to proceed in using my computer in a very unusual situation?

I am really sorry to bump this so fast but I am freaking out a bit and could barely sleep. I came here as soon as I woke up but didn't get any feedback and didn't see the post on the page any more. Any thoughts on this issue?

I also wanted to do a bit of an update. The man who loaded the Swedish WinXP named it "WINXP" while my prior windows was named "Windows". When I go through the scan log from avira's full system scan, I notice all the infected files are from either C:WINDOWS (not winxp) or C:systemvolumeinformation, or C:programfiles, or C:delldrivers. I am pretty sure the C:windows and C:programfile infected files were all from the old XP. I don't know what to make of the systemvolumeinformation and delldrivers. They also could be from the old XP files but I have no clue.

I thought it important to add that since just blindly running a scan will search all the old system files as well as the new and the guy did tell me that my current system is totally secure. Again, I am very skeptical due to them being wrong before about being able to fix the virus directly, and so I wanted to get your opinions. Thanks again.

I'm really at a loss right now and quite disheartened.

So I've been tearing my hair out for the 3rd day running with this problem.

A little backstory to help understand what's going on. For a couple of years now I've had my PC connected to my SONY Bravia HD ready LCD TV. A couple of rare instances in the past I've lost the display for unknown reasons but always managed to get it back, oddly, what seemed to work each time is stripping out my pc and leaving just the fans, cpu, psu and motherboard connected, even took out the bios memory disc (you know that little silver coin looking thing?). Dunno why all of that worked it just did.

I left my PC on to download (harmless download and not a windows update) and it was FINE. I went to walk my dog, came back about an hour or less later and found myself staring at a blank black screen on my TV. I moved the mouse, hit the keyboard start menu key, nothing. Checked the connection ends, nothing.

So I had no choice but to hard shutdown and power up again. Nothing.

Eventually, after again stripping out my PC (including BIOS memory) and put... Read more

The picture is fine but there is no sound. Also when you go to the playback settings screen the green lights are jumping next to the spdif which is set as default but there is no sound. I have tried everything if you do a Google search on this topic it seems like it is a common problem but there is no specific solution. Ok i have windows 7 ultimate 64bit. my computer is a HP pavilion dv6-1259dx. the front of this computer has 1 microphone 3.5mm jack, and 2 3.5mm headphone jacks. (so that you dont have to have a splitter to have 2 headsets, it already has 2 built in)

first 3.5mm headphone jack is hooked up to a set of computer speakers
second 3.5mm headphone jack is hooked up to a stereo system

both play perfectly fine, the problem however is: when i have both the computer speakers and stereo plugged in at the same time playing, obviously the stereo system is a lot louder than the computer speakers. so what i am wanting to know is, since this laptop has 2 built in 3.5mm headphone jacks, is there a way i can independently control the volume of each jack. I.E. have the computer speaker jack volume at 80% and the stereo speaker jack at 40%??

if i click on playback devices, my speakers and dual headphones are set as the default device. i need the independent dual headphones to be set as the default device, however my computer will only let me set it as default communication device. i have re-installed the driver with no success. i KNOW it has to work because in the independent dual headphones there is a setting to control jack 1 and jack 2 volume and HP wouldnt put it there without it working. I just have to figure out how to make my independent dual headphones as my default device.

if not, are there any programs out there that make this possible?

thanks so much!

A:can i have independent sound control in this situation? please help!

If they show up differently in "Payback devices", you can adjust the volume seperately under the "Levels" tab. Just double click on the icons and you will see..

This is a weird one.

Problem is on my desktop computer.

The sound was working just fine. I was working on a sound problem on a laptop about the sound being too murky using a new headset using skype for remote calling on the laptop.

All I did was plug the headset into the desktop and make a call through skype. I have a regular cit phone I use for desktop skype calls so I changed the speaker and mike settings (I am quite comfortable with using these settings). I made a test call through the headset, all was well and I unplugged the headset and re-plugged in the speakers.

Later on when I needed sound there was none.

I have checked everything. Nothing is muted. Skype settings have been set to the proper computer settings. I have been through the XP help sound troubleshooter. You can hear the speakers make that "crackling" sound when I plug them in. The headset does not hear anything. Volume is up on the speaker knob on the speakers.

It seems to be a disconnect between the computer and the speakers all of a sudden after that one little test of the headset. I think something somewhere (some sound program) is muting or lowering the sound level but I can't find it.

Any thoughts?

Could you please post a list of your computer's hardware and current audio software and supporting audio driver types.
Also please list make and model of your speaker system and headphones and any outboard supporting amplification or power supplies if you are using any.

Hello everyone! This is gonna be difficult.

I have a pretty old, probably from 2006 or smth PC. Its very good and I love it. It original OS was XP, but I liked Windows 7 and so I installed that. Everything else was fine expect for audio. I couldn't find a driver that would install/enable both speakers and microphone together. There were many drivers that just enabled speakers, and many more that wouldn't install at all.

I also posted a thread about it where more information can be found. Please read.
HTML Code:
However, there was just 1 driver that enabled both microphone and speakers. It was SigmaTel drivers that I had got with the computer when I bought it. So they were pretty old. There was one problem though - it crashed most of the programs that played music. I also posted thread about that as I didn't know what was wrong back then. Well, now I knew it was just those drivers. Please also read this thread.

I tried like 30 different Vista, XP and 7 drivers, none of them worked perfectly. So I decided to took my computer to an IT pro, who said that my sound card and its drivers aren't supported by Windows 7. So they installed XP again and now I'm running on XP. But I would like to upgrade it back to 7.

Hey, I've been looking for help for this for 2 days straight and still haven't found any help.

Basicly about 3 or 4 weeks ago, my motherboard or graphics card went, i had the computer repaired and it arrived a few days ago.

I've plugged it all in but i can't get any sound.
I've changed my Bios, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, did some roll backs, plugged in the S/pdif cable altered my properties and still no luck.

Can anyone help me?

I find that my computer seems to have this odd sort of lag every now and then. My computer has plenty of processing power, and memory to do what it needs to. But even with smooth running applications, I seem to get this odd bit of lag that occurs like random bump. What causes a computer that runs smooth as mine to have these lag bumps? They throw me off with certain programs I use, and not just the heavy duty ones.

A:Unusual lag issue

It could be any number of things.

Post the specs of the PC.

MB-CPU-RAM-GPU-PSU brand/wattage

For the last couple of days, when I boot up in the morning, there is a sound like something running rapidly in my computer. In my untrained mind I imagine a fan running. It is reminiscent of the fan sound I used to hear in my VW Rabbit when the engine got warm and the radiator fan automatically kicked in. And like the fan on my VW Rabbit, it runs for about 30 seconds and then fades. The computer runs fine with no problems. Does this sound like a fan going bad or some control that triggers the computer fan to run? Or am I totally wrong and this is some other component of my machine acting up?

Your comments/thoughts would be appreciated.

The laptop I'm trying to fix had an attempted BIOS update. Something went wrong and now the system seems to be skipping BIOS completely. Then, it goes straight to a BSOD with an 'irql_not_less_or_equal' error. I have tried refreshing/resting the computer in advanced options, system recovery, boot repair, everything that I've been able to find or think of. After the system reset and refresh, it worked completely fine until I restarted the computer and then loop started again. I have no access to an OS on the system (installed or live disk/usb) and I can't do a reformat and clean install because I can't change the boot order (the HDD is the primary boot device) Anyone got any ideas? It really has me stumped...

A:Very unusual BSOD issue

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

If the system wasn't using UEFI or Secure Boot, then a UEFI update would reset the system to using it - thereby making the system unbootable (took us almost a day to figure this out at work)

It can't be skipping the UEFI, it may just be that there's no screen showing.
Usually you can access the UEFI setup by holding one of the F (function) keys when the system boots.
This will change depending on the make of the system. Try Esc, F2, F4, F8, and F12 for starters

You may have damaged or corrupt system files. Try running System File Checker. If it finds any problems run the scan 3-4 times.

Hi! I am having a serious issue, or rather my aunt is (I am on her computer) with the internet. Earlier, when we signed in to IE, a bunch of porn sites would pop up from google. Now this is usually easily fixed, but there is also this annoying (and actually probably dangerous!) thing going on with text on websites. it turns light green and becomes underlined, parts of words, or single letters, etc. I'll post a screen shot in a moment.

Anyways, we have run a virus scan, nothing. a spyware scan, nothing. we went through the programs list, and nothing.

apparently the problem started when my cousin was playing games on shockwave.

but also, on the desktop, we get about 4 icons to sites of the above nature.

while I get the screenshot, this is the website that the green text leads to "http://www.realmatics.com/cgi-bin//ezlclk.fcgi?id=521"

so...any innitial ideas? I have no idea how to fix it!

I have searched this forum as well as many other forums in search of an answer to this question but i am yet to have any sort of success.

I have recently purchased a new system to act as a Media center. For some time I have been running a dual-boot system (XP Pro / Media Center) and I have just got round to setting up a system just for Media purposes.

Upon transferring the two hard drives used for my Media PC I have started to recieve and error upon startup. I get the classic error "boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".

Now I am sure that this has something to do with the fact that my original setup consisted of 4 hard drives...

IDE 1 - Windows XP OS
IDE 2 - Windows XP OS Applications
IDE 3 - Media Center OS
SATA 1 - Media Centre OS Media Files

obviously the only drive that had a boot.ini file and contained a Master Boot Record was the Windows XP OS drive and you chose which OS you wanted to boot on startup.

I have ran repair and ran fixmbr of what have you and i have copied the boot.ini files over to the media center drive and set it as the primary drive, however it still gives the same error. The hardware setup works fine as i have managed to install XP on the other hard drive.

All I want to do is find a way to get the system to recognise the intallation of Media Center on the IDE drive.

Regards, Matt.

I came across a really bizarre issue a couple months ago (i've been leaving it alone after i tried fixing it for several days). I have a 5.1 channel speaker configuration but some content does not play with subwoofer, in other words no bass sound at all. I used to run winXP pro x64 edition but installed to winXP pro 32 bit when i got my new 320 gig HD and used the old HD for another PC.

In the winXP pro x64 edition everything used to play with bass or at least some low register sound.

With the winXP pro 32 bit edition evertyhing is played with bass or at least some low register sound except for stuff like the Windows Login and Shutdown, online media content (i.e. YouTube videos), or some PC games while other PC games play with 5.1 channel configuration.

My first guess was that the speakers were unplugged incorrectly or what not. So i checked that. everything seems to work fine when i test it with my sound configuration software that came with the motherboard (onboard audio).

My second guess was that some of the content should not be played in 5.1. Which i understand but they should be played with some lower register sound cause thats how it used to be and all of a sudden it stopped. So i'm not quite sure if what i'm viewing or listening to is whats causing the problem.

My third guess was my speakers are faulty or the onboard audio is faulty. But usually faulty devices are faulty right out of the box. I don't recall me doing anything to harm the inter... Read more

I have had an occuring problem that just defies all.  I started having my computer shut down while I was playing Bad Company 2. I discovered that I needed to replace the thermal paste on the heatsink and voila, the problem disappeared.....or so I thought.  It went away for a few months, and I reapplied more thermal paste but it is back with a vengence.  I have completely cleaned the inside of the PC.  I took out the video card and thoroughly cleaned the fan on it as well.  I replaced the thermal paste, (Arctic Silver 5) and replaced the heatsink.  I then powered up, and immediately loaded BC2 to check the temp.  I am using Core Temp.  It is simple and easy to use.  Unfortunately for me the problem persists, and all the information I find seems to consist of forum after forum of "change your thermal paste....or, clean out your computer."  I am hoping that someone here will be able to at least lead me in the right direction.
I don't know if my video card is going bad, (no problems in game.)
I dont know if my heatsink is bad, (it's clear and clean)
Any game will cause this overheating shutdown to occur

Thanks for taking the time to read this. First off, I tried searching the forums to see if my issue had a common solution. Sadly, I found only two other threads with the same problem I am having that received no replies. I hope that isn't an indication that this cannot be resolved.

These were the unanswered posts.
Just for reference.

Anyhow, I had been typically using my LCD TV as my laptop monitor. I would open my laptop, start it, let windows load and log in, then I would turn on my TV and close the laptop. The TV would then become the used monitor with the lid closed.

Yesterday, for reasons I don't know, this stopped. Now when I close my lid the TV does not display. I did not update my graphics card or install anything new onto my system. In fact, all I had done previously to the issue is some forum posting, using facebook, watching Hulu, and playing Fallout New Vegas.

Now the interesting thing is that my TV will still display if the lid is open and the settings are set to either duplicate or extend the screen. The replacing the screen option will result in nothing displayed on either TV or laptop.

Additionally, my TV can tell that there IS a signal. Normally if the cable is disconnected the TV will report "No Signal" but instead it is telling me "Mode Not Supported".

I've attempted changing the resolutions to values I know my TV displays, setting both monitors to this. It did not help. I made certain that the lid behavior is still ... Read more

wireless nic adapter with 13dbi antenna

Laptop Specs:
cpu: Athlon 64 3200
ram:1.25 gb

onboard wifi

Desktop is experiencing lag spikes, recording an average ping of over 500 on pingtest.net with 3 different browsers, ie, firefox, and chrome. Laptop on same network averages under 20 with same 3 browsers.

I test the wireless nic adapter by plugging it into laptop disabling the laptops wifi. The test showed wireless nic adapter was was not at fault, recording average ping of under 10. I also tried a different wireless adapter on desktop and still no change.

I've tried a basic "ping -t www.google.com" through the command prompt on both the laptop and desktop and they both showed a similar ping time of around 30, which I find odd. I would expect the desktop to have higher ping times. It seems I only have high latency when using a browser.

The lag is really noticeable when playing mmo flash games, which is a big problem. The desktop has very low cpu usage with browser open, under 5%.
I've tried a gamebooster app to kill all non essential background apps but no change. I've also tried WLAN Optimizer and Vista Anti-Lag but they didn't help either. My network monitoring app on desktop also shows that there isn't any running that would cause the lag. Anyone know what might be the cause?

Hi there.

I have an unusual request, and this seemed the best forum to post it to.

I am a musicologist/musician and frequently visit a fantastic (Korean) website dedicated to the music of J.S. Bach, http://www.greatjsbach.net/ , where it is possible to consult the composer's scores and hear recordings of everything he composed (the majority of files are presumably mp3, but there are also some MIDI files).

Last week, however, I bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (I'd previously been using Vista Home Premium), and since changing computers I can no longer listen to recordings via this website; the music is obviously playing, but I hear nothing. When I first accessed the site with the new computer, I was told that I needed to download Active X, and so I clicked on the link and allowed the download. But even after having downloaded the Active X, I was unable to hear anything.

Would someone mind checking out the site and reporting back if they are able to hear the recordings? When the homepage opens, you have to click on W (works), from there you can choose from various categories. Pick a specific composition, and there you will find links for listening to a recording of it.

I'd be interested to see if other people have problems listening to the music, and if they are able to solve the problem.

P.S. I would have posted on the website's own forum, but it's all in Korean!

A:Unusual request (no sound on website...)

What browser were you using when you could listen to music?

I'm using IE8 with Windows XP Pro SP3 and cannot listen to music either on your website.
