I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

You may have deeper problems than that have you tried this:SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hey all, I need some help please. I'm a graduate student, and as much as I tell people that they need to back up their data, well....I didn't back up my data. I was working on a research project last night when my screen went black. I assumed that it was because I was running off the battery and I missed the low-power warning. I plugged it in and it didn't come back on so I pressed the power to reboot it.

It never rebooted. It got to the Windows Logo and hung there. So, I cycled the power and tried to boot to LKG. No dice. I rebooted again and tried to run startup repair and memory diagnostics; no issues. So, then I tried booting into safe mode. No luck there either. I noticed that it hung at a specific file; amdkmpfd.sys, which Google tells me is the graphics driver.

Now, a simple OSRI should fix the problem, but I have data on there that I don't want to lose. So, it's been a long time, but I seem to remember there being a way that I could copy the .sys file to a flash drive and then use the C: prompt to copy it back to the system directory and reinstall it that way. In theory that should repair the issue, right? Does anyone have any good command prompt resources that might help?

A:Need some help with reinstalling graphics drivers via C prompt

What a crap! I hope you did not have the term paper etc stored there in the laptop without having a backup.

amdkmpfd.sys is actually the AMD PCI Root Bus Lower Filter. If the computer does not boot normally and hangs on it. Try to boot it in Safe Mode. Then first back up your data externally, and then plan for a clean reinstall.

But if the computer even does not boot into safe mode, still you try to back the data up at first. Follow this method:
Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

After backing up all the important data externally, go for the clean reinstall.

Here's my original thread at MS forums:

Lots of random BSODs, trying to figure out what is going bad - Microsoft Community

There are links to dump files and bluescreenview screenshots there and a description/history of the problem.

Turns out my old GTX 680 did have some issues which were made clear when it crashed during benchmark on my second system (which has no issues otherwise). So I bought a new reference GTX 970 and it ran great on the second system. Now after coming back to the first system, it's still crashing!

Here's the info from the utility in the sticky in this forum:

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...int=file%2czip

EDIT: Attached file to this post as well.

Anything in July or after is with the new GTX 970.

I'm beginning to think it either really is a PSU issue (as per original thread, I tested the PSU with a digital voltmeter and it was fine, but I did not test it under load), some freak motherboard issue (but it didn't crash once while using onboard intel graphics), or driver issue (looks like maybe directx?).

I'm waiting to upgrade to Windows 10 to see if the DX12 will end the crashes. My friend had BSOD issues on his new build and upgrading to Win 10 insider preview fixed it. I'm reluctant to upgrade to the insider preview, but if it keeps crashing to the point of being unusable, I might try it, barring better advice obtained here.

Thanks for any help you can provide, this has driven me crazy and I've already spent $350 trying to fix it!

A:116 BSOD, even after replacing graphics card and reinstalling drivers

Oh and I ran SFC /scannow and stuff. When I tried to do it specifically on some of those directx files (mms), it said it couldn't do it. Even in safe mode.

I've also tried various Nvidia drivers, using driver sweeper/uninstaller (DDU one) each time. Including before installing the latest drivers when I put in the new video card.

I have an HP OfficeJet K-80 printer/copier/scanner. It worked OK until recently. I could print or copy but not scan. HP Image editor software would not respond to any of my clicks. So, I uninstalled then installed 3 times. Each time I get an error message near the end of the installation process:

"Unable to start the application--the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered."

I don't know where the required Java software is supposed to be located nor where I can obtain it.

A:Problem reinstalling printer drivers

I'm working with HP tech support on this problem. It turns out that Java VM is not included in my current version of XP/SP2. I tried downloading Java from Sun's site, but got an error message there also when I tried to install the package.

My Intel Graphics Driver has been uninstalled and I can't seem to download a new one to reinstall. I can't change my screen resolution to anything above 640 by 480 pixels or my color quality to anything above 4 bit. When I click advanced and check the adapter tab everything says "unavailable."

My question is if I reload XP onto my hardrive will it contain a graphics driver? I'd like to try and fix the problem first because I don't want to start from scratch.

But if nothing else works I think I still have the disks that I originally used to install XP that came with my computer. Is this something I need to do or will that make it worse?
Graphics Driver now working. Mods may delete. Thanks anyways,

I had to reinstall Windows 7, and after doing so, now when I try to use certain filters in Photoshop, or open my webcam software, I receive an error about not having the proper video graphics card or its driver installed.

I haven't changed any hardware, and those programs worked just fine before, so I'm guessing it's a problem with either recognizing the card or the driver? I'm not sure, any help is greatly appreciated!

A computer that I have here running Windows 98 (first edition) is stuck in 16 colours and 640 x 480 resolution mode and I can't seem to get any graphics drivers to work with it.

The motherboard is a FIC AZ11E(A) with a separate graphics card. From the number on the board, a FCC ID: ICUVGA - GW909A with a sticker "VANTAL 8MB" I have deduced that it is a nVIDIA TNT2/Vanta card. This ties in with the text message at the top of the screen at bootup which says "NVidia Vanta VGA BIOS".

The drivers I have downloaded and tried are NVIDIARIVATNT23DFORCEB32.zip, Nvidia362_amd.exe and Nvidia353.exe, none of which are accepted. I have also downloaded and installed what I think are the motherboard drivers from FIC's website, the VIA4in1 patch drivers which have made no difference.

The other issue is that a few of the items in Hardware Devices are doubled up with the second item marked with the yellow exclamation mark and even if I remove them they are put back again after a reboot. In the properties of these items it mentions incompatibilities with the BIOS, which brings me to the third issue, as follows.

The BIOS is reported as being an Award 2.05.17.03.00 in Belarc and Aida but on the motherboard it says it is a Phoenix Bios D686 with a few more numbers. Is it possible that someone else could have flashed the BIOS with the wrong update? Would the computer still boot up and work with the wrong BIOS update?

I had a geforce 7800GT in my computer. It recently died. I took it to a technician to diagnose the problem. He ordered a new graphics card for me and installed a "replacement" card for the half week interim. Now, when I say he installed it, I mean he put it onto the board and nothing else. He didn't have the drivers CD or anything like it. He simply said, "I think i have a spare in the back if you want to borrow it for a while." I said "okay."

It's an ATI Radeon x550 256MB

I'm having problems getting drivers onto it correctly. I tried to go the ATI site, but they want me to buy some BS driverrobot software in order to update my drivers. So, I found and downloaded some replacement display drivers, but I keep getting errors upon install.

I get to the installshield wizard for ATI and choose express intallation. It says, "you have chosen to install Catalyst Control Center, the minimum .NET framwork required is 2.0. Please install before launching application." I press OK.

It then continues on for some reason and gives me an error stating "setup did not find a driver compatible with your hardware and operating system." I pres OK, and it exits intall/setup.

Edit: I also don't know if this plays a roll. But, upon starting up for the first time, windows recognized new hardware...but when trying to find software for it off of the internet, the installation failed. Likewise, when I ran dxdiag to... Read more

First go to Guru 3D and download and install DriverSweeper. Then make sure your nvidia drivers are uninstalled via add remove programs. Then remove any ATI drivers you have installed. Go to device manager double click on display adapters then double click any adapters that show in the drop down menu. Go to the driver tab and click on uninstall. You'll get a warning that you are uninstalling the device from your system. Click on OK and reboot your system. In program files delete any nVidia or ATI folders left from the old installations. Then run driver sweeper to make sure any remnants/orphan files from the old drivers are removed. Your resolution should be really large. don't worry about it. Reboot one more time and install the ATI drivers you have downloaded for the card. If you still get the no compatable driver error try downloading an older driver.

I've purchased a new motherboard (MSI KT4V) that came pre-built with an Athlon XP2400+ processor and 256mb PC2700 RAM - all of it soak tested prior to delivery. The problem I'm having is with the graphics card (an old Gainward GEForce2 MX). Basically, Windows won't load up in anything other than 640x480 with 16 colours. I've tried re-seating the card, reinstalling the drivers (both old and newest versions), deleted the card in Device Manager and let windows auto-detect it on reboot (done all this and variations numerous times, including installing them in safe mode etc). I've reinstalled Windows twice, run diagnoistics on the memory, on the motherboard (both using Norton Diagnostics - yeah a bit crap, but that's all I've got), checked the CPU temperature, fan speed, checked the AGP speed in the BIOS (it's 4x - which matches what graphics card), checked for conflicts - basically done everything I can think of. The only bit I can't do is checks using Motherboard Monitor as it won't load up in 16 colours.

The only area I'm left with is the Power Supply. It's a Macron 300W which throws out the following:

+5v = 30A
+12v = 10A
+3.3v = 14A

I've unplugged everything in the case but the Hard Drive and still no luck. The previous spec of my PC was a AMD Duron 700mhz on an EPOX8KTA board.

In one of this month's PC magazines they have similar spec PCs fully loaded, often with 300W power supplies - and they seem to... Read more

Well, I didn't think I had the latest driver or whatever for my gfx card, so I went to install a newer version.

I uninstalled the older one with the Add/Remove programs thing from XP, and restarded my comp like it told me to. When I try installing the newer version, this message pops up:

Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.Click to expand...

And then I click OK and nothing happens.

Now I'm not even sure what gfx card driver I am supposed to be installing, because when I run "dxdiag" is says N/A where all my gfx info is supposed to be! All I know, is that it is ATI... I'm also not sure now that I didn't have the newest version as it was. =( Also, keep in mind I'm not too good with comps, so please be specific when telling me how to do something. =x

I have a Fujistu Lifebook N3510, if that helps.

Please help. This is a bit frustrating... =/

You dont say which drivers you currently have, it may be that they are 32 bit? Also, did it work before you tried new drivers? If so, you may well be able to roll back, or do a system restore to a point before the install, and get a working system that way

Hi

Since I reinstalled XP Home SP3 (I don't have the original disk), I've been having problems with various media players.  Most of my downloaded videos suffer from choppy playback.  Another problem is, e.g., opening My Documents, then dragging it across the screen.  This doesn't happen smoothly.

Device Manager has a yellow '?' mark next to Video Controller and VC (VGA Compatible).

Slim Drivers managed to update all the drivers except those two.  Speccy doesn't reveal the make of the graphics card but I believe it's a ATI Radeon 9550/ x1050.

An abridged Speccy report is attached.

Many thanks.

There is a much easier way to find what you need. Go to device manager, right click on the device with the question mark, select Properties, then Details and the property you are looking for is Hardware IDs. Right click on the first one and select copy then paste the result into your next response. That will tell us exactly which device you have and what driver you need.

*edit*
the result should look something like this ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_33A0. That ID goes to Intel Smart Connect btw.

I need to reformat and reinstall Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 8200, which is about 5 year old. It is my understanding that first you reinstall XP and then you have to reinstall the drivers. I am not sure how to reinstall the drivers.

When I ordered my computer from Dell, it came with things like a monitor, printer, speakers, video card, and sound card.

The computer also came with a cd that is labeled "Drivers and Utilities". The cd is also labeled "Dell Dimension ResourceCD for Reinstalling Device Drivers and Using Diagnostics, Utilities, and Online Documentation".

Will this cd install all of the necessary drivers for all of the hardware that came with my computer? For instance, my video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420. Will the cd have the drivers for this, or will it only have some sort of generic video drivers?

If the cd does have all the necessary drivers, how do I use it to actually install them? Do I just click some button and the cd will automatically install all the necessary drivers?

Last, is there some program I can use that will make copies of my already existing device drivers so that I can use them as a last resort.

I also found and installed the proper graphic drivers from AMD and Intel for my laptop (based on my video cards, cpu and OS) but no result also. Laptop warranty has expired.
Any suggestions to solve the problem? Thanks in advance.

A:Problem with Graphics and Video Card Drivers in Dell Inspiron 3521

You should not install Intel or AMD's drivers since the Dell drivers are customized for your exact model. Reinstall the original Dell drivers from Dell Downloads and Drivers. Run the Dell Diagnostics by tapping F12 as soon as you reboot to get to the Boot Menu. See if there is a problem with the hardware. The catalyst control center is for desktop computers with discrete cards. It is not a driver- it's software. Your AMD card is not a discrete card. It is a supplemental card that kicks in when more power is needed.

Laptops rarely--if ever--need driver updates like desktops. If there is an update it must come from Dell.

Whatever drivers i install for my graphics card i.e. latest drivers, older drivers (they are the right ones) or drivers of lower spec cards my display seems to dismantle. My display and screen will look crisp and will load up faster than usual with the drivers installed. But after about 4 or 5 times after restarting my pc or turning it off my display seems to go down to 4 bit and the screen size automatically changes to 800x600 when the original settings are at 32 bit and 1280x1024. I can only fix this problem if i uninstall the drivers and then the display is OK apart from the fact that i cannot change any of the advanced display properties e.g. screen refresh rate. Also i cannot play some games as they require a fully working graphics card. Also it does restrict me to watching my movies in good quality. There is no problem with the monitor because i have installed/uninstalled the drivers and still i have the same problem with each monitor. This is a very weird problem and i think it could be down to faulty graphics card or the heat of the case or system. The Case temp is about 52 and SYS temp is about 40 but this doest seem to high. Thanx for any help anybody gives me. P.S. i will now be getting a Nvidia 64 mb geforce 4 card as im getting it for free. You think that will display my movies in good quality?(these movies are dvd quality movies or actual dvd's. Thanx

A:Hi i hav a sparkle Nvidia 5200 128mb graphics card and have a drivers problem.

Did you remove the other drivers when you installed the newer/older ones? Try removing them and restarting. To remove them, right click on My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager and look for your video card entries. Right click on them and choose Remove. Restart and it should ask for the drivers. Install the newer ones if you can.

So someone (my son) decided to uninstall the graphics driver on my laptop - an HP G72 running Windows 7.
I thought I would just be able to get the driver from Windows Update. The driver showed up in Windows Update "Intel Corporation - Display - Intel® HD Graphics". When I try to install through Windows Update, though, the update fails, giving the error code 800705b4.
Googling the error code, I found a Microsoft help site that said to try the Windows Update troubleshooter. The troubleshooter told me to try running Windows Update again. When I did, I got the same result as before.
I tried going to HP's website and downloading the driver and installing it from there. The installer ran for a while, and then an error popped up reading "An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit." with just an OK button. I clicked OK, and the installer popped up, ready to try again, so I went through the process once more, and got the same result.
I tried, based on advice received elsewhere, to download the installer from HP's site, and then use 7-zip to extract the .exe file, then go into Device Manager and update the driver, and then direct the wizard to that folder. After it tried to install for about 10 minutes, I got the following message: Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
If someone could help, that&... Read more

First you need to know what hardware you have ie motherboard, video card, etc. Once you know that, then download the drivers for your hardware. Burn them to a CD.

From your post I assume you want to clean install windows. Is that correct?

Hi all,
I upgraded to Win 7 x64 a few wks past and initially all went well. However, since then, I've discovered that I have to keep reinstalling drivers for all my plug & play hardware. Once I reinstall they work fine for that session, but then on a reboot, I have to once again reinstall. I'm doing so through the device right click/Troubleshoot option.

When I first noticed it on the Kindle I thought it was because it wasn't compatible for x64 or something & indeed the Kindle tech I spoke to stated that, BUT others with the same model as me use theirs on an x64 platform without any diffs.

So I'm really unsure whether it is a compatibility issue etc or something else. For 2 of the devices I downloaded the specific drivers & updated manually, where the other device I let Windows find the driver itself.

Anyone any suggestions either how to check where the problem is coming from or else ideas on how best to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to the forum! I'm reformatting my computer and upgrading it to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. I have already done the check to make sure all my hardware is compatible; it is. My question is what drivers do I need exactly? My list so far has: Chipset Graphics card Sound Card Ethernet Card Am I missing any? Aside from that I need a bit of help with the chipset/GPU driver. I have an nForce 430 chipset with integrated GeForce 6150LE however I have purchased an ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card and have been running off of that. My question in regard to the chipset driver is firstly, where is the nForce driver download? I am unable to find this specific chipset on nVidia's website and secondly if I find a driver will the graphic card drivers come bundled with it? If so, is there a way to get the chipset driver without the graphic driver for the integrated GPU. Thanks!

I'm about to reformat an old computer. No problem with the reformat, but I'm a little confused when it comes to installing the audio, sound, ethernet drivers. My disk contains more than one for each of these, therefore I don't know which one to use. My OS is XP. After the reformat can I just go to the device manager and select update manager, set location to the cd?

A:reinstalling drivers?

Hi,

Once you have formatted...you should install the chipset driver first...this sort of configures all the other drivers to install correctly....i then normally do the audio and graphics and ethernet...im not sure just how important those are in any particular order as i have not had any problems doing it that way....just make sure the chipset goes in first!

Once xp is installed, either load the disc on autoplay or via "my computer"...just click on the cd icon...you should then be able to choose what drivers you wish to download

Dont forget the windows updates...they will be automatic and will probably take ages

Whenever I turn my desktop ON, all me my hardware suddenly starts re installing itself and then i'm prompted to restart. And when i restart, the same cycle repeats itself. Also, i use my phone's bluetooth connection to connect to the internet on my pc, so is this bluetooth causing the problem. I'm using a v2.0 usb dongle with bluesoleil.

Please help..
Thanks..

A:The Drivers Keep ReINSTALLING themselves!

Hello ronnie141, to TSF>

Firstly, let's try starting the desktop with the Bluetooth? and the USB 2.0 dongle disconnected.
If this is not successful; start the computer while continually tapping the F8 key, this will take you to a screen with a number of listings; such as, Safe Mode, and including Last known good configuration.
Select Last Known Good configuration, and allow the PC to reboot.
All should be normal by now...post back with the outcome of these two suggestions.

Kind Regards,

I have been having some computer problems, services.exe running at 100%. Could not pin point to exact problems so I thougt I would install windows into another folder and then delete the old one , found the instruction on another forum. Well I finally managed to do that but now I am stuck reinstalling my drivers. Could someone please help me?

I have the cd that dell sent when I first bought the laptop. Thanks in advance.

A:need help reinstalling drivers

You can go HERE and enter the required info for your particular make and model of your machine. That will take you to the page with the required drivers. Not sure what disk Dell includes. If it is labeled as Drivers and Utilities then you should be able to pop it in your optical drive and follow the instructions that come up on screen.

Windows is freezing when I try to select my Handycam HC30 mini DV cam thru firewire for capture, until I unplug the device. Actually, first it'll say "cannot locate" a vid-cap device, but then after a bunch of time it'll kinda find it, but then just chokes trying to interface; locking up the system until unplug.

This problem has been happening since I did a fresh install of XP SP2, whereas before on the identical machine and platform it worked fine (reinstalled due to a corrupted boot sector).

I think the root problem may be that the PnP drivers Windows installed got corrupted when installed (a bubble at lower right said there may be problems with the installation). There don't seem to be custom drivers for this cam, nor are there any removable devices that I can see in device manager, so if someone can help me figure out how to remove this device (or other fix I'm not thinking of) so that I can try fresh again, that'd help alot.

FYI: The device does make the appropriate sound when you plug it in or out, and it still works w/same cable on a mac.

I recently decided to switch back to Vista after using the Win7 RC version for several weeks, due to problems with my USB devices that I couldn't figure out how to resolve.

So I ended up having to reformat my laptop, which I wasn't happy with at all.

So I go about reinstalling Vista, get everything set up, and I'm instantly confronted with several problems. One, my resolution is stuck at 1024x786, instead of the 1366x678 I previously had, with no option to change it. Two, I have no internet and the diagnostics tells me that my hardware isn't even properly installed.

I go to device manager and there are several things flagged with an exclamation point, which leads me to assume that I'm missing some drivers. I go to the resource and utilities CD, but I really have no idea what to download and what not to. I also can't seem to find my adapter driver anywhere on the CD.

I just want my laptop back to the way it was before I was dumb enough to not put Win7 on a separate partition.

Help, anyone?

Not every time but what seems like nearly every time I switch from battery to AC or visa versa the Bluetooth drivers reinstall (about 5 of them) and say "device is ready". The only BT devices I have at the moment are a wireless mouse and a portable printer which I seldom, if ever use BT.

Anyway to get the laptop to accept the current drivers without searching and reinstalling?
