Sound Quality On Skype/Discord (Voice chat systems)

Q: Sound Quality On Skype/Discord (Voice chat systems)

I have a Blue Yeti Microphone, and it's quality only shows through within recording programs such as Audacity. How come my microphone quality is not the same standard when I talk on Skype, Discord and TeamSpeak? I have the settings modified for these programs so that it is at optimal settings, but the general quality of the microphone isn't heard. Although there is a difference between the quality of the Blue Yeti and my previous microphones, it sounds completely different from recording programs AND how it should sound as a high end microphone.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Sound Quality On Skype/Discord (Voice chat systems)

Quality relies on the amount of data throughput. Most chat programs place a priority on speed (ie: low latency) as opposed to quality, so the amount of data used for the audio stream are reduced.

As you noted, the quality of the mic is noticeable over your previous mic. So the mic quality isn't wasted.

Sorry all, don't know if this is the correct thread to post in (Im using windows XP and saw software related threads.)

Anyway, I'm trying to use Skype on this computer to chat with my friends while we play HoN. Only on this computer I am using right now do I get this problem.

Basically voice chat will work fine for about an hour (sometimes less), and then all of a sudden the voices become choppy and I can't understand what they say.

I doubt this is an internet issue mainly because I can run my game on this computer and set up my laptop right next to me and run skype from that, and my laptop (which is Vista) will run the voice chat perfectly fine with no internet lag on either computers, heck I can even use my other computer at the same time doing something with the internet and still not get any interruptions, so I don't think its a bandwidth problem.

If anyone has any advice for me I'd appreciate it ^_^

Skype / Messenger Live video call voice quality (fixed)

Hi All,

I am having a few problems with webcam calls with my folks.

I have installed the latest versions of Skype and Windows Live Messenger on both machines but when using either one for webcam video calls their audio and video coming to me is absolutely fine and so is my video to them however my audio to them is delayed, juddery, and robotic/gravelly (as if i have a sore throat). It is the same in both programs.

Zone Alarm on both machines is configured to allow these programs to run as they wish but still the problem persists.

We both have broadband at speeds usually no lower than 3mb.

Any help apreciated.
Rob

A:Skype / Messenger Live video call voice quality

skype is heavily dependant on bandwidth. I use it here in Iraq and with phone calls can be garbled if bandwidth is insufficient. However, it would seem in your case, the problem may be firewall related. I would ensure that all your ports are open for skype. I don't recommend zonealarm as it interferes with many programs.

I've just installed a new modem and it works fine. The problem arises when i want to conduct voice chat using Msn or Yahoo messengers.

When i try to have a voice conversation using these programs, i get a message that my sound device is being used by another application and i should close it to be able to have voice chat. The thing is when i close the modem connection, the audio setting wizards in these programs start to work, but then there aint any internet connection to have voice chat. I also tried to record and play using the Sound Recorder built in windows and it gives the same error msg when i am connected to the internet using this modem.

Apparently, my modem is creating all this problem. Can somebody please help out?

Thnx in advance

A:Cant have voice chat cos the modem is conflicting with sound device

Very hard to offer advice when you do not supply any details of the computer, the operating system, the modem...

IF its a Windows PC
and IF it's using an internal modem, then "uninstall" the modem from device manager, power down the PC, open the case, shift the modem to another PCI slot and power up.

Reinstall the modem, this time it should be using a different IRQ due to the slot change, and might avoid the conflict.

Make sure you have the modem drivers available before you start.

I am have a computer with win98se installed on it. The problem is that when I try to play stream Real Video clips, though the video is playing, I cannot hear the sound. Another thing is that I am unable to voice chat over Yahoo Messenger. When I run the Audio Setup wizard, I am getting an error message that the sound card is being used by another sound application. I am getting this message though I am not running any other sound application simultaneously. My understanding is that the Windows Media Player 6.0 which is also installed on my computer has captured the sound card and won't let it go. I have come to this conclusion because Windows Media Player is able to play all the files but not Real Audio.
Could someone help me with my problem? Can someone tell me how to make the sound card available to other programs?

Thanks

A:Sound won't play in Real Player and Yahoo Voice Chat

Hiya and welcome

Windows Media Player 6.4 won't play Realplayer files, such as ram, rm and ra. You need Realplayer or an alternative for that.

Now,a s you say you're getting a conflict with the sound card, lets have a look at your IRQ's:

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Hardware Resources, then IRQ's. Copy/paste the list here.

Also, lets see what you have running at startup:

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Plus, doubleclick the volume icon near your clock, and choose Options | Properties. Playback. Make sure all boxes are ticked, OK. Now, make sure none are muted, or lowered, and that the balences are all in the middle.

Regards

This never used to happen, but for the past week or so, when I launch and try to use ANY program capable of Internet audio and/or video chat, it turns off my computer's playback sound completely. I can literally watch the slider slide down to zero! And it also checks the normally unchecked "Mute WAV" box.

Now I know some of the programs -- Skype, SightSpeed and Yahoo IM -- have an option of letting the program control your sound settings. But this problem occurs even when those options are unchecked and even if they were functional they wouldn't turn the sound down to zero.

I've tried any number of combinations of having the programs launch on startup (one at a time), not launch on startup, etc. I've ensured that the audio settings are correct via the Control Panel audio setup.

I just purchased the above the other day.

I chat regularly to someone in America using various chat clients (yahoo, aim, msn etc).

On my ancient Sony Vaio this wasn't a problem. However on this laptop, with a vastly superior specification, the sound at their end is awful. It apparently skips and the volume fluctuates.= and generally sounds awful.

I tried sound recording on it and got the same results.

I'm using a Plantronics headset rather than the internal mic, (don't know if this makes a difference).

Not being that computer literate myself, is there a conflict between the external mic and the built in mic or can anyone shed any other light on this matter.

Any help would be vastly appreciated because I purchased this laptop simply to upgrade and carry on voice chatting

Hi

In the sound settings, you will find 2 mic volumes, one the internal and external if the external mic is only plugged in, so what you do is to mute one and use the other.

When i'm at any kind of voice overs, in a call on skype or teamspeak it manages to happen a sound crash, but the time isnt certain, sometimes it takes about 10 minutes and other times take 1 hour or more to crash.
When the sound crashes, all the videos freeze. Its like watching a video with super slow motion and no sound.
Only way to solve this is rebooting.

Basically, whenever someone sends me a voice clip, I can hear the sound perfectly. No added noises, only what the person inputs themselves.

However, when speaking directly with someone (voice chat, video chat), the sound, their voices, everything I hear from them is very static-y and buzzy.
What makes me even more frustrated is that this problem isn't present in a Skype chat... Skype chats work perfectly, and they're just the same as MSN voice chats...

Please help me out, I would be really greatful.

My problem is as follows.

I want to play Tabletop audio which is a soundboard like website.
The issue is that it needs to be real-time action when the I press the button it needs to respond.
The audio should be fed to Discord which is an application like skype.
Also, I don't want feedback when I speak because, with some virtual cables and CheVolume, I managed to feed the audio from the browser to Discord, but when I speak there is an echo.
I used two accounts, one for me as a speaker and one as a bot sort of thing to play the tabletop audio sounds.

We are playing DnD so its important for it to be real-time and tabletop audio is really great for the soundboard.

Yeah. I voice chat with a friend on a few different chat programs and it doesn't seem to matter which program we use. We start off ok but after maybe 5 minutes or so I notice we are lagging. She will talk and I will see her mouth moving on her webcam and I will get what she says like 10 secs later. This doesn't happen with everyone I talk with. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to get rid of the lag between us? We tried skype and the same thing happens. I am just wondering if there is any chat program that will not lag at all? My guess is no but I'll ask anyway lol Thanks.

With MSN sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. With my parents (on XP - I'm on XP too) the sound would only work if one of us uses Windows Messenger instead of MSN Messenger. Then there are the various firewall and router settings.
Easiest solution: install Skype. So far I've never had sound probs with Skype, always works straight away, and with very good quality. Just no cam, but you can talk through Skype whilst seeing each other in MSN

Hi Michaelangelo,

it sounds like you will need to forward the port in the wi-fi router. All you need to do is find out the make/model of your router and go to:
http://portforward.com/routers.htm

There you can select the make/model and then select xfire Chat from the list of applications and you'll then see a guide on how to do it with handy screenshots.

Hope that helps....the website is very good for all types of games/applications so is worthwhile bookmarking

I have tried Skype, and oovoo, but they both seem to break up and lag. I don't think it's a internet connection problem, as it still does it with a good, fast connection. Hello nomad18,
Found this, i hope it is what you are looking for.

The FAQ page is at http://www.bytescribe.com/support/vista.htm , and you'll want to look under "Product Compatibility List" in the section that mentions something called "Export Utility". There is a link there to a TrueSpeech Codec Installer .exe file on bytescribe.com's site itself that I have confirmed is a safe link.

The installer is located here: http://www.bytescribe.com/downloads/...ec_install.exe . Download the .exe, run it, restart Yahoo Messenger, and you should be all set.

Take a look, good luck and post your results.

Another thing I would like to point out is that after I made my AUX headset the default communication device I had to reinstall my Broadcom Bluetooth drivers in order to get my sound back. Is there a way that I could do this without getting rid of my gaming sound? Please respond on this thread.

Not entirely sure where to place this but I'm having a weird issue that nobody seems to have an answer for me with. All Voice Chat programs don't seem to work on my machine. When I run Ventrilo, I get stuck on contacting server forever. Teamspeak errors out without connecting. Even the internal voice chat program inside of World of Warcraft doesn't respond. I have a mic, which works fine to pick up sound, but for whatever reason, none of the voice chat programs seem to function.

I assume the problem is probably related to a router or some such, but I have another computer connected to the router that has none of these issues. In fact, I have at one time or another connected at least 3 other computers to my router and all 3 worked just fine. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

For the record I'm running Vista on an Alienware computer, Comcast is my ISP and my router is a wired Dynex DX-E401.

Thanks.
