Need Help: Computer goes beep! beep!

Q: Need Help: Computer goes beep! beep!

My computer sounds like one of those European Police cars heading to and emergency. Beep-beep! Beep-beep, etc.
I am running Windows XP Pro! Need help as to what is going on!

Preferred Solution: Need Help: Computer goes beep! beep!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I am getting beep sounds when i turn on my dell inspiron n5010.
Nothing is showing up other than beep sounds.
Please help me out

A:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

I've had systems that did, some that didn't (probably because I didn't have the system speaker properly connected).

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Anybody have any ideas??.

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

i was actually coming on here to ask about my new graphics card, butttttt...

my laptop is acting up. i have a toshiba satellite m305d-s4830
amd turion ultra x2 dual core mobile processor zm-80
4096mb 800 mhz 50ram
250gb (5400rpm) hdd

i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

there are no extra items like CDs or disks in the laptop.

any ideas?

A:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

For some silly reason I removed the 2 128mg PC2100DR ram sticks from my old computer that was working just fine. When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

A:One long beep, pause, another long beep when I turn on computer

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

RBurke, welcome to the forum. The BIOS Beep Code that you are hearing is caused by a memory problem.  Here is a guide that will help solve the problem: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107 You should read the entire page.  The beep codes common to HP computers are toward the bottom of the page. Please click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. I checked my RAM and tried to switch it to another bank but the beeping is still there. My video card temp was 50-52 ?C before the first BSOD happened. What can I do to fix this?

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

A:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

A:5 beep pause 2 beep

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

My computer freezes with a beep. The problem occurs randomly during a game sometimes 5-30 minutes into a game. The problem will present itself every time. It will also freeze when running video on the internet. The video problem has happened 2 to 3 times out of about 40 hours of video.
I have ran dxdiag and posted the information about my computer.
I have also reinstalled windows XP with a format of the hard drive. After installing all updates to windows. I excluded updates to drivers. The problem persists. Before the reinstall i did a memory check with memcheck. I passed all tests.
Thinking it might be the GPU. I purchased a new graphics card Geforce 6200 512mb that is not listed on the dxdiag. The problem still occurs with the new graphics card.

A while back - ( a few months) - a friend helped me build my own computer - it had a 8800gts 320, AMD X2 6000, hard drive, disk drive, and 2 gig of crucial ram (with this motherboard: http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/uk/mot...&pPRODINFO=Specifications&fSEARCHTEXT=NF-M2SV)
Anyway when it tried to boot it wouldn't with the two sticks in. Took one out and it worked. A while later the computer shorted out and i went to a independent pc shop and said the power supply i was sent was faulty, they then tested out the ram for me and said one stick was faulty. At the same time they changed the psu for me, i took the computer home - it worked on the one gig. Anyway i contacted ebuyer (which was were i bought the ram from) and i sent both sticks back and they agreed it was faulty. They quickly sent me a replacement that i got about 4 days ago. I put the ram in and all i got was the constant series of beeps. I checked beep codes and couldn't find anything so i presumed the ram was faulty again. I let the friend from earlier try the ram on his computer and it worked fine. In the meantime i decided to order a higher quality of ram because i believed the other ram was faulty for a 2nd time. It was this ram here: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...25z&product_uid=116755&spec_type=ZXh0ZW5kZWQ=
It arrived today and i put it in and again i got this repetitious beep when i try to power it up. The screen is black, the power button is on, all the fans inside the... Read more

A:Computer Beep - not booting up??

Try resetting the bios (CMOS). Set the bios to the default settings. The motherboard might be damaged from all the "defective" parts

Well for the past week, whenever I am playing a game through java or listening to a youtube video, I get a random beep through my headset. At first, I didn't think much of it, but now it is being a little bit consistent (2-5 times a day). I tried looking at the CPU temps to make sure it wasn't an overheating alarm and I get around 30-50 degrees (depending on if I am playing a game or the system being idle). So, I decided to look at my event viewer and noticed the events coinciding with the beeps (both being UserModePowerService):

Process C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (process ID:2992) reset policy scheme from {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

Process C:\Windows\explorer.exe (process ID:6196) reset policy scheme from {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

Essentially, it's annoying, and would like to figure out how to fix this. If I need to give more information, please let me know.

My computer specs:

? OS - Windows 8.1
? 64 bit
? Intel i7-4330k
? EVGA 770 FTW x 2
? Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H
? 16 GB Ram - Cosair Vengance

Thank you.

A:My Computer dosnt beep

My computer does not beep. I am almost positive that it doesn't have to beep. Usually the computer beeps if there is a problem or some just beep if there is a speaker on the motherboard.

I keep getting a short beep. I found this on the net but I'm not a tech and don't know how to do this stuff.

Very short beep
This problem is linked to your motherboard. It can also mean that you are facing a problem with your system memory (BIOS AWARD)
I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Ok, I just recently finish building my comp with a Asus A7n8x-x motherboard and everything works perfectly. But when I start up the computer the case speaker does not beep, and I heard one fast beep during computer startup is a good thing. I am not sure is my motherboard or case speaker is defective right now so is there any way to test out the beeping noise?

This problem first occured one week ago and it won't go away. I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-73 portable computer. The problem is that when I start certain programs (for example when I start Skype Internet telephony, iTunes and when I'm on certain Internet sites using either the Explorer browser or the Mozilla Firefox browser) a sharp sound starts sounding from inside the computer. The sound is strongest near the fan. The sound continues until the program (Skype, iTunes etc.) is closed or if I start playing an mp3. But as soon as I pause the mp3 the sound starts again.Even if I have no sound on the speakers I can hear the sound from inside the computer. But if I start an mp3, even if the speakers are off, it goes away. the sound is driving me crazy and I would be foreever thankful to the person who could help me get rid of it.

How can I run a custom application, in this case something that would create a beep sound, when my WinXP wakes up from standby?

I tried already "Logon Script" from Computer Management / Local Users. That doesn't work, it only works when logging in, not when coming back from Standby. Also Startup folder doesn't work (same thing). Also couldn't find this possibility in Scheduled Tasks.

So I know how to make the beep sound, but how to run that when the computer wakes up from Standby?

I have an older computer with an Award Bios, Pentium 2 processor. I put in a new CD-RW, and everything worked fine, Then my son brought home a new video card , so I pulled the old one out. But the new one wasn't compatible with my MB. So I stuck the old one back in, Now the computer does not beep when I turn it on, and it seems like the hard drive is not booting up. All the lights come on, floppy, CD rom and hard drive light comes on. I have checked all cables, and everything is in place securely. Nothing on monitor but a black screen. If it was the MB would the lights still come on? Oh yeah the fan is turning. I read some of the other posts regarding this problem, but haven't found a solution. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks to all.

A change in sounds indicates that there has been a change in the computer, many times a problem. How many beeps?
