Every time I delete or move a picture, it dulicates in my pictures file

Q: Every time I delete or move a picture, it dulicates in my pictures file

Help me please! Every time I delete a photo or move it to a folder, I get a "copy" in the original photo. I have tried highlighting & moving a group. I have tried moving them one at a time to a folder to delete. I have tried just deleting. I have more than 100 duplicates of some photos (just trying everything LOL). Any ideas? this is using the Picture Tasks on Windows xp.

Preferred Solution: Every time I delete or move a picture, it dulicates in my pictures file

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried deleting them without using the picture tasks by just highlighting them and pressing the delete button?

It turns out that if I download a picture file to the photo app in 8.1, without putting it in a particular pre-existing folder, the file goes into the general area of the app displayed alongside several other non-related pictures. Okay, no problem. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to then move a single image file into one of the pre-existing folders I had created at an earlier time. If your suggestion is to open both the folder and the picture file side by side on the screen and then click and drag, I have no idea how to do that. Is there no way to right-click the image and find a way to select "move to", or something along those lines; or is there a pull-down menu that I can't find with the app open that contains a command to "move to"?
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much,

A:How to move a picture file on 8.1 to a picture folder...

Well, you have many options. What you are looking for is this:

Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums

But you can just copy the pics and paste them into the folder you like.

The side by side is easy too. Just open the source folder and press WIN + Right arrow. Then open the target folder and press WIN + left arrow, Now you can drag and drop from one folder to the other.

I am sure it is somewhere between the Win7 and Win8 forum but search did not help so here goes:
Using Directory Opus 10, THE BEST TOOL for Windows ever, the Sync command always gets hung up on the empty My Pictures, My Music, and My Videos folders when running Sync. I fixed the issue by just moving the folders out of the offending folder (My Documents say). Is this kosher? Since I use these folders on another hard drive, could I just delete them from THIS folder?
EDIT drop the whole libraries thing. off topic.

A:Can I safely delete or move My Music,Videos, Picture folders?

Libraries are not a complicated topic. They're just a folder that allows you to "view" multiple folders as a single location. Say you have 3 flash disks, and each of them have mp3's on them. You can define all three as part of your Music library, and you can view them as a single set.

Not complicated at all.

If you only have one folder on a different drive, then just set that folder to be your only music location for the library. That way tools that use the Music special location will find it, no matter where it exists.

Basically the title. Almost every single time i move ANY file or delete any file, the window im in freezes and the progress bar freezes. Now when i create a new folder the window im in freezes also, but i'd say its only 50% of the time. The temporary solution i found was to go to the task bar, end explorer, and restart it using run. Now when i check back on that folder, whatever action I did (ie delete file) does do what i wanted, its just the freezing. I'm looking for a permanent solution to this and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

A:Create New folder, move file, delete file. Explorer Freeze

Hi erod49, try looking in your error logs. You have given a good discription of the problem. Tel us your system specs as well.

To get into your error logs,

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

Other things to look for are updates, has an update caused this. Has your computer autoupdated any of the motherboard drivers.
Have you tried to restore the computer before the error started or has it always been like that.

I have a Dell 2350 PC with Windows XP. SP 2 is installed.
Recently I added a Maxtor One TouchII external harddrive with Dantz Retrospect Express HD backup software. When I attempted to do a backup of my C: disk, it started the process then stopped and gave me a message that the backup was unsuccessful due to file with a "malformed name". With some difficulty, I tracked the file down to file which resided in a folder on the C: disk. I understand that this type of file is created by <chkdsk>. This file is empty and was apparently created the first time I booted up the computer (Apr.2003). When I attempt to delete or move this file, I get this message:
"File0000.chk is inaccessible.
The directory name is invalid."
I tried deleting from the Command Window and got essentially the same result. I tried to use the SPYBOT shred tool to erase the folder. It appeared to work, but when I checked C: disk, the folder was still there only now the file in it was named . It is this file that now comes up as the offender when I attempt the backup.
How can I get rid of this file.

I seriously logged onto my computer one morning after leaving it running all night long for a torrent to download ... and a porn file had downloaded itself into My Music folder.

This file has nothing to do with the torrent I was downloading and I do not know how it got through my updated Norton. (Please don't go on about how you personally may not like Norton or think it sucks or something).

This file has a pornographic name that is many many characters long. In fact, I cannot even view the entire name. The name is so long that I cannot move the file anywhere. However, it will not let me rename it. By clicking the mouse two times slowly, just gives me an error chime sound and nothing happens.

This file appears to be a "Movie Clip" although I do not know what exact type because of reasons I will get into in a second.

I cannot right-click the file with much success. When I do ... it opens up only the following options:

Play
AVIcodec : detailed information
Add to Now Playing list
Add to Playlist ...
Add to Sync list
Add to Burn list
Open With ...
Send to ...

Nothing more. "Send to ..." only leads to AIM, Skype, Mail, Desktop, and Compressed Folder.

"Open With ..." leads to the typical window as with all other files.

Even if I double-click the file as if to open it ... it will open in Windows Media Player as a movie ... but then it will not play. I click the Play button but nothing happens although I can see the Pl... Read more

A:File won't delete, move, etc ...

Hi there...

try downloading and installing a little freeware program called Unlocker which can be found here. Once installed, right click on the file and select Unlocker, then if the file is locked by another process, you should be able to select Delete from the drop down box and then click Unlock All, this should force delete the file but you may get a message saying it requires a reboot to complete.

If that doesn't work, try moving all the files from your Music folder to another location temporarily and the delete the Music folder with the offending file inside.

Once complete, run your anti-virus and anti-spyware software to remove any relating files/folders that may be elsewhere or hidden in your registry.

Hope that helps :-)

I have a folder, about 7 GBs. There are like 24 videos in this folder(Only first 7 videos play or can be moved), but for some reason I cannot move these to my external hard drive or delete them. When ever I try to move or delete it says deleting 0bytes of 0bytes. Also it locks up my windows explorer after this happens I cant even open my computer, my documents, my music etc. anything with windows explorer comes up but the page is blank. The only way I can get it to work again is to rerstart.

Thank you for any suggestions.

A:CANT MOVE or DELETE video File

Just to be safe, run chkdsk /f to make sure the file system isn't corrupted. Click start, (all) programs, accessories, command prompt. Then type
chkdsk x: /f
where x is the letter of the drive the folder sits on. If it's a system drive or in use, it may say you need to reboot. In that case, reboot, and wait a little. You'll find a report in the event log (control panel, classic view, administrative tools, event viewer - don't remember if it's in application log, or system log in Windows Vista - the event may be named chkdsk, winlogon, or something like that. Double-click them and see them one by one and see if it says anything about chkdsk). I suspect it'll say some files are orphaned or something like that. If it finds lost files, it'll save them to a folder named found.000 in your root directory.

Not sure if this the correct forum but here goes......

My daughter (gotta love 12yr olds) saved a .doc to the desktop named: con.withtravis.doc

I can't delete, move or rename the sucker! It says something close to "Access denied, file name too long or invalid" when I try *anything* in windows. I rebooted in dos and tried to del....access denied!
Turns out the "con." is the culprit. It's a reserved device name.
CON is short for console....good old dos.

I found this (actually a friend did) command suggested ---

del \\.\c:\dir\con.c

However for me
dir would be windows\desktop
and con.c would be my file's name

Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated

A:Can't delete, rename or move this file

Interesting -- windows won't even let me name a document with that name!!

I assume you've tried going into dos, changing to the desktop directory and then deleting the file using wildcards? Something like

del co*

Assuming that you don't have any other files in that directory which begin with "co"

?

Hi there,

I have a very unusual problem with my vista ultimate 64 bit,
when ever I execute an exe file, I can't delete it afterwards.
I can delete it after restart.
There is no security problem, if I do not execute the file then I can delete, move and do what I want. The moment it is run, and certainly close it, I can't delete it any longer. I checked that the process is not running any more.
I tried to see if something is locking the file, no handle was found on the file. It happens for different programs, no matter what as long as it is an .exe file.
I tried unlocker program that said the file is not locked.
It happens even on a usb key with FAT.
The moment I run the exe from the key I can't delete it, and I can't remove the key the right way.
When I pull out the key, and return it, I can delete the file, it is free.
But I can't do that to my hard drive.
Tried scanning for virus, and malware - nothing was found.
Tried security related, but since it happen on a usb FAT disk, and there is no security for that, I am starting to give up.
At this time formatting the computer in not an option.
I will appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

Vista does have it's quirks, that's for sure, have you tried deleting from an elevated command prompt?
or you could try this, (sometimes it works)
Run notepad.exe
Go "File" "Open"
select the file and hit delete

I hate windoze

I am here at work trying to do some maintenance before I start on a month long binge to update all the websites and server software. Windoze has fought me the entire way, from the defrag to the moving of folders. I hate windoze.

Now I can't even move some psd files I created in Gimp a while ago. Windows just keeps saying that they are being used by another program. There is no program using them. I have been running SpyBot S&D and F-Prot all day so I really doubt it's security related and I have closed down all the programs running before trying to move them. Still says some phantom program is using them. Even tried a restart with no results. Did I mention that I really hate windoze?

I am now completely confused as to why this is happening other then I am using a buggy OS. Do you guys know a work around for this?

When I try to delete some programs such as Microsoft Office sometimes I get a message saying: "Renaming, deleting or moving....could make some programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?" How serious is this warning? Should I just go ahead and delete the program anyway? For example, I copied and pasted Office onto my slave drive because it has more space, and I got that warning. Should I just go ahead and delete Office from my master drive? Also, MS Office installer boxes keep popping up. Why? I wanted to move MS Office to my slave drive because I have little free space on the master drive, but is moving Office too risky or complicate to bother trying to move it? Also, I've been getting Trojan Horse warnings from files from the temp folder, so I tried to delete the temp folder contents but got a message saying: Error deleting file or folder: Cannot delete 3112. Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use". If I should try to delete temp in safe mode how would I do that? Thanks for any replies.

A:How Move Ms Office And Delete Temp File?

As far as I know, you shouldn't have a problem moving MsOffice to the other drive...The bigger issue here is that you have malware installed on your machine. I suggest that you run anti-virus scans, adware scans etc and see if you can remove the Trojan(s) from your machine. That may make pop-ups and the like go away.Deleting contents of Temp folder will not do anything to resolve this even if it would let you do so. If you can't get rid of the malware yourself, I suggest that you open up a new topic in "Am I infected, What do I do now?" and go from there. TROJAN ISSUE FIRST!!!

Hello!

I am hoping someone here can help me. I was trying to stream a video and one of the many links i clicked on (most of which just play the video and that's it) automatically downloaded an .exe file.

When I go to the downloads folder, it will not let me delete it. I can not move it to any other folder. I have tried going into control panel and deleting it, but it does not show up there. I have tried deleting it through the properties (as i saw somewhere online) but that doesn't work either.

Nothing happens when I right click, and then click delete. I have seen many people having the issue of not being able to uninstall this same program, but they all say that it tells them it's currently being used, and there are specific steps to go through in that situation, but mine doesn't even say it's being used. It just does nothing.

I have not tried to open or run the file at all, because obviously i don't know what it is or want to run it. I just want to delete it completely.

Can anyone help?

This is the what the file name is: FLVPlayer_downloader-N0o2IATmt.exe

Thank you
I'm running windows 8, if that helps at all. I use Chrome as a browser. not sure if any of that info is needed...

All I want to do is make it gone. Any thoughts on why this happened and solutions before I resort to loading up a Linux live disc and deleting it that way?

I am having a similar issue. I have a few files I've created and worked on in Vista that are on the local C-drive, but happen to be in a shared folder: for example c:\mysharedfolder\file123.jpg

I had worked on this file, then the next day could not access it. I can't delete the file, or copy it, or move it, or rename it. If I try a window just pops up saying calculating and says for hours!

If I right click, I get a menu to pop up, however, if I click properties, nothing happens.

Oddly, I can ZIP the file still. Then I can copy/move/email/etc the zip. If I copy/email the zip file to another Vista machine, or the same machine into a different folder, then unzip the file, the new file is also inaccessible. This happens even on different vista machine.

If I copy that zip to a Win2k/XP machine and unzip it, then it works fine. I can open it up in an imagine browser/editor. I can copy, rename, delete, etc. no problem.

I have other image files in the same folder that are of the same extension/type/etc. and they have no problem at all.

Any ideas?

How can I remove all references to subdirectory MyPictures on my C:\ drive?

Last year I did a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise. I then copied my data files to the C:\ Drive. These directories and files were created with XP Professional so my photo files were under My Pictures\2010.

In the Library view I have Pictures\My Pictures\2010

In the Computer view I see C:\Users\Russell\My Pictures\2010

I used SyncBack SE to backup my files to the F:\drive.

SB SE converts references to subdirectory My Picture to Pictures. Some how I now have some files backed up on two directories:

When was the last time you defragmented your drive ???

try uninstalling any unneeded programs .. and stop programs from starting up

These can be disabled from start>run>msconfig > startup tab. Disable All.

This will also disable any firewalls and antivirus so only do this to see if it resolves the issue.

I am unable to do anything except make copies of files - documents, picture, videos, music, nothing.  I can't move them to new folders, rename them, or even delete them: it just says "invalid MS-DOS function."  I'm not trying to move
them to a disc or a drive or anything, I'm literally just trying to move something from one file to another and delete some pictures I don't want anymore.  I've checked the properties on the files and I don't see anything saying that it's a read-only
or anything; I don't think any security settings have changed.  Everything is completely fine and workable on my flash drive, which is plugged into the computer.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  I need to organize my stuff.

A:I keep getting a "invalid MS-DOS function" when I try to move, delete, or rename files (ANY file).

Hi,
First, you may check if the flash disk is a good one as Forest brook mentioned.
This error generally means that the media you are copying from wether it be a hard drive, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is corrupted in some way. For the optical drives, you will need to get a new copy of the media or try it in a different drive, and for the hard drives,
run some sort of hard disk repair software.
As I know, you will not be able to copy some of the files if they are copy protected. However, ideally you should be able to copy the recorded files.

I also would like to share the following troubleshooot methods with you to check this issue.
Method 1: If you are trying to copy the files from NTFS format to a FAT 32 format, I suggest that you follow the below link and run the Hotfix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949073
Method 2:
a. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
c. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
d. Type ?CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo? (without quotes) to name the new entry, and then press ENTER.
e. Right-click CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo, and then click Modify.
f. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
g. Exit Registry Editor.
Before perform the menthod 2, please refer to the link below to back up the registry first.

Hi,
I'm new to Windows 7.

I'm still trying to master the file permissions.. I need some help and I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I have a folder with mp3s (created with my old Windows XP system). I've included this mp3s folder in the "my music" library and then I inspected the folder and took ownership of it together with everything it contains (following instructions I found on the Net).

Nevertheless, when I'm trying to delete or move a file I get the message that I need to provide administrator permission! But I thought I am both administrator and owner...

Also, when listen to the songs with WinAmp, it seems I cannon save any song data. I get: Cannot save metadata: Error opening file.

I suppose, it's an aspect of the very same problem.

What am I missing?

thanx.

A:I need admin permission to delete/move file (but I'm both admin/owner)

Take a look on the properties of the folder see if you have an unblock button . If you do click on it .

I'm posting this question for my brother who is a computer-noob.
Somehow his laptop running XP seems to have been infected by a virus, although Norman AV does not find a virus.
Problem: everytime he doubleclicks on an icon this seems to be interpreted as a delete command. He gets a question "Do you really want to move this file/shortcut to the recycle bin" Answering No does not close the window. This also happens when he opens outlook (via mouse-menu open option) on downloades messages, double click within outlook on a message deletes the message instead of opening it.
Does anybody know a virus that can cause this behaviour?

A:double clicking an icon every time tries to delete file/shortcut

If he has an infected system...he needs to consider posting here at BC, in the appropriate malware forum.BleepingComputer.com - Am I infected What do I do - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html That's the best advice I can think of for a known infected system.Louis

I moved "My Pictures" folder in the registry using:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"My Pictures"="C:\\My Pictures"

But, every time I enable My Pictures as a menu item in the XP start menu, it erases the registy entry. I can almost watch it happen realtime; after hitting Apply in the start menu config dialog I can see it deletes the data in the registry after refreshing regedit. Can anybody explain this to me?

Hello all!

This is my first post, so please be nice!

I have used this site for help millions of times in the past, but this time I don't seem to be able to find an answer so I thought I'd post it myself.

For some reason, when I try to select and delete multiple pictures in the My Pictures folder, they don't move to the Recycle Bin they're just copied into the same My Pictures folder. So I end up with even more pictures than I started with, all with the prefix "Copy of [Image Name]".

I can delete one image at a time, but selecting more than one just copies them rather than deleting them!

(I am using Windows XP Home, by the way)

It's bizarre. Does anyone have any idea why it is doing this?

Thanks in advance,

Sarah

I have made videos and put them on youtube. I am thinking of making another video about the meaning of life and as my previous videos are made up of still pictures is it possible to make move (i.e If someone was walking would I be able to make him legs move or if i was going to shoot with a gun then make the bullets move) I have already attempted this by making loads of pictures where each changes slightly to make it look like he is moving (as they do in cartoons) I didnt finish the video in the end because it takes just too long to do each scene. Is it possible to download some software or somthing to help me do this??? If not then I will have to do it using still pictures again.

Cheers

Dear Friends,
Maybe someone can help. My wife was moving pictures from an external hard drive to an SD card and was doing fine for a while. Then she got a message that the card was full. When I checked, the pie diagram indicated that the card was only about 10% full.I tried to move (dragging) the pictures from the external hard drive (actually tried both hard drives that have the same pictures) to the SD card. When I played with it, it would not work for me. I just kept getting the message: "An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem. Error 0x80070052 The directory or file cannot be created"

Anyone have an idea what my problem is and how to fix it? Thanks!

Thankful

Hello,

When I upload pictures from my camera, I can't make any changes to the folder the pictures upload to or any subfolders I create within that folder. For example, my pictures will upload into a folder with todays date. Then I can go in and create new folders to sort all the pictures into. I then try to cut and paste each folder to a different location and it tells me that i need admn permissions for this but I am the administrator so I don't understand. I also can't rename the original folder from the date to anything else. However, I can cut and paste the pictures to another folder outside the original one and then delete it. It's very time consuming and frsutrating but I can't seem to find any solutions to it online?? Has anyone else come across this? I have a very basic knowledge of computers - but I would like to avoid taking it to someone to look at it as that can be very costly

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Amanda

A:Help! Unable to move picture folders or rename them

I have been doing a "work-around" that works very well for me, and allows me to customize the photos in any way that I wish. Here's what you can do: When you're in the process of uploading your photos, change the pre-set destination location of the upload from the default location to your "Pictures" folder. (Or, if you can't do that with your camera, perhaps you can move the uploaded folder immediately over to your Pictures folder.)

Then, open the new Pictures sub-folder with Microsoft Office Picture Manager -- which is a great photo app that is standard on all Vista machines (but not the default so most people don't even realize that it's there.) M.O. Picture Manager allows you to do whatever you want with the photos - edit them, resize them, rename them, and much more. Once you have successfully edited your photos, you could, if you wish to, put them in newly created additional Picture folders with different names, for any of your different images.

PS If your system won't let you "move" the uploaded photo folder, you might be able to fool the system by just "copying" the folder, and "pasting" it into your Pictures folder.

PPS For the real answer to your question re: the "administrator" issues, there's some great advice in the Tutorial section regarding running your system and accessing files as the Adminstrator. Here's a couple of them and there's more:

I'm trying to design a name tag using Access 2000's label wizard. No problem at all putting the fields in the tag based on the query that is the data source, but I would like to put a watermark picture on the tag BEHIND the fields. Is it possible to do that, and if so, how?

P.S. I have tried dumping the picture into Word and making it a watermark, but when I copy the picture to the tag, it is opaque and in front of the fields.

I'm removing some files from an old Win 95 drive, drive is installed in a external USB enclosure, connected to a Win XP machine.
I was trying to use the "Search" function to grab all the .jpeg files on the drive, but when I try to copy and paste them as a group I get a "can't locate source or drive" type of message.
I can move them in small groups but it gets confusing- I keep losing my place and forgetting which ones I have already done.
I've tried viewing them by thumbnail, list, etc. but no dice.  There must be a way to do this?

A:How do I select and move a group of picture files?

are you copying all JPEGs or just selected ones? If you are copying all, you can use the following command (which can be run opening the "run command" dialogue from the start menu):robocopy <external>:\ C:\<destination-folder> /s *.jpgwhere <external> is the drive letter of your external drive and <destination-folder> is the folder where you want to drop all the jpgs.
