Latitude 7480 - Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt software say external GPU support not enabled?

Q: Latitude 7480 - Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt software say external GPU support not enabled?

I am trying to use a 3rd party external GPU enclosure that attaches via thunderbolt, and when attached, I got the message pop-up that external GPU support was not enabled by the vendor, and as such the device will likely not work? Has Dell locked the Latitude 7480 down to no external GPU support?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Probably. I read somewhere that since Dell is pushing their Alienware external GPU stuff that uses a proprietary connection, they never enabled external GPU support via Thunderbolt.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if the Thinkpad P50 will support external  graphics cards via Thunderbolt 3. One product that is available for preorder right now ist the Razer Core which would allow to hook up any GPU with PCIe 3.0 4x speed (but there are several other TB3 egpu enclosures anounced). Razer confirmed that the Core will no prevent other manufacturers from using it but that they might need to do some work on bios and software. I'm a little worried that the P50 might whitelist only some divices over TB3 (as we have seen before with some of the "normal" PCIe slots). Has anybody evidence that it will (not) work, or even has a setup like this currently working? A response, if something like this will be supported, from Lenovo staff would be greatly appreciated. Why would you want this?Spoiler (Highlight to read)Well, the P50 has a formfactor that is still portable and the M1000M / M2000M is powerful enough for work on the go and for some presentations. But for the daily work at my desk I would like to have a little more gpu power. The convenience of having both with one machine is that it eliminates the need to synchronize my softwaresetup and projects between a portable machine and a workstation desktop pc.It also seems like I'm not the only one with a demand like this. If you search for Thinkpad egpu solutions in various forums, you will find several reports of people that added a egpu to their Thinkpad W-Series notebooks. The problem with ... Read more

I hardly think Lenovo would allow this. The best hope would be Lenovo provides an official external GPU solution, at a premium price tag of course.

Hi There Guys, I've just purchased the latest Spectre X360 specifically because it has thunderbolt three, which I would one day like to use with an external GPU. I've read in some places that HP are specifically blocking the use of external GPU's on these devices which is troubling.  Its been confirmed that the spectre does not work with the Razer core Just wondering if this is true and if anyone knows whether this will likely change as if there is no support i'll be returning the laptop before it arrives! Thanks, Jason

A:Thunderbolt 3 External GPU Compatibility/Support

Not sure how you return it before it arrives but if you bought it thinking it would support an eGPU you just bought a big disappointment sandwich. We have no way to know if HP will ever issue a BIOS that does support the razer and other similar Tbolt eGPUs but they did just modify BIOS on the Spectre 13 to allow some 3rd party USB-C chargers.

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

A:Thunderbolt not working / Unable to update thunderbolt firmware

There is an issue with the update for the tunderbolt firmware when updating through the system update utility. This is a known issue that the Engineering department has been working on. The only known resolution to this issue so far has been to replace the system board. Im sorry for the inconvenience this is causing. If the device is still under warranty i would speak with the support center to have a tech install a new board.

Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

Anyone owns a P series Thinkpad and can comment on eGPU support? I wasn't able to find any certification on Intel's website or information on Lenovo's website.

A:P50/P70 Thunderbolt 3 External GPU

I don't think I've read where anybody's actually received a real P50/P70 in their hands yet from a real live purchase.  My own US order for a P70 was placed with Lenovo online last Wednesday night and confirmed by Lenovo last Thursday, but shipment is speculated at no earlier than 10-12 business days.

So I don't think you're going to get any firsthand feedback from anybody until maybe January.

But who'd really buy a P50/P70 with plans for an external GPU?  The graphics upgrades on the P70 are pricey, but certainly seem "adequate".

What is your plan?  Why do you want/need an external graphics capability?

I tried to ask on Reddit but it looks like nobody knows the answer. trying it here  where could I find a confirmation that the T470 with onboard HD 620 graphics can drive two 4K Dell P2415Q at 60Hz monitors when connected via Thunderbolt? PSREFs just say it can support up to 3 displays (which is cool, but at what resolution and what will be the refresh rate) and max resolution supported is 4K at 60Hz (again, great, but how many of them?)I was planning to use either the Startech's Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter or Dell TB16 dock to connect the monitors, as Lenovo is not providing ways to connect two 4K monitors over the DisplayPortIdeally, I'd love to have a dock which can connect both monitors but as I understand current generation of mechanical docks does not allow to use two 4k monitors, I guess it has something to do with bandwidth of chips used for DP ports in the docks.

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... After the time spent with Dell Support doing diagnostics and updating video drivers to those official Dell drivers on the support page, my new XPS 15 9550 with 4K touch display continues to struggle when using external monitors. I have two (2) Dell U2515H monitors.
I have updated ALL of the drivers and BIOS to the very latest files available on the Dell support page, including the newest Thunderbolt 3 driver.
When the laptop is NOT connected to any external monitors, I am NOT experiencing any trouble.
When the laptop is connected to ONE external monitor via the onboard HDMI port, I am NOT experiencing any trouble.
Trouble begins with the addition of ANY external monitor via the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port.
I have experimented with the following three adapters, all producing the same result:

Dell USB-C to HDMI (2.0), part number 047KD7
Dell USB-C Port DA200, part number 5KMR3 REVA00

Second, although the monitor works with any of the adapters at the proper resolution, all of the screens will go black about every 10-20 minutes and the displays will seem to resize and reset. A:Trouble with XPS 15 9550, USB-C/Thunderbolt 3, and external monitors

This is apparently a problem with the Thunderbolt 3 driver/firmware and/or the Intel 530 graphics drivers. I see very similar issues using Dells new TB15 Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Normally when I'm in my home office I use my 9550 with the lid closed using an external monitor connected to the HDMI port. All works perfectly. When I try to use the Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock and connect my external display to its HDMI port it is unstable. Sometimes the external screen goes blank for a few seconds. When the system wakes up from sleep or I reboot it it does not come up on the external display but I have to open the laptop and switch back to the external monitor. Basically it is unusable. Still waiting for Dell to fix the issues.

Hello - I wish to connect my 24" Dell monitor (it has every port imaginable) to my Lenovo Yoga 720 WITHOUT using the Thunderbolt port. Is this possible? I am a Jazz musician and I with to use the external display for (1) reading complicatedf [e.g., classical piano] sheet music and (2) for use with DAWs (digital audio workstations, such as Abelton, Pro Tools, etc., where there is LOTS of info crammed in tight and a large monitor is needed). My Yoga's TB port is used for a 500 gig Samsung external hard drive.  The Samsung houses my music programs (e.g., the DAWs, Ivory piano, Easy Drummer, etc.), and I placed them there for the fast speed (this really helps eliminate the latency on the pianos).  I don't need fast speed with the monitor; my prior Lenovo G780 worked just fine with my 24" Dell monitor; the G780 had an HDMI port. I don't find a "TB dock" that has (1) HDMI, display port, etc. AND (2) another TB port.  Does such a thing exist? I've tried the crappy "USB montitors."  They (1) suck and (2) are not 24". Am I screwed here? Thanks, - Jeff Newton (Jazz saxophonist and pianist)

Hello everyone, after having a phone call and getting an email from acer support, I was able to update my thunderbolt 3: Does "External GPUs supported: No" means, that I can not use the Asus MB169C+ External Monitor? When I plug in the monitor, the orange lamp shows that there is energy income, but as soon as I push the power button, it says: DisplayPort No Signal.Given the fact that I do not have the original Asus Typ C cable and just a cheap USB Typ C cable from Caletex, might this be the reason for beeing not able to see anything? Should I try it with a real Thunderbolt 3 (20 Gbps) / USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable? Or even ask Asus to re-send me the original cable? Happy for getting any help. Best regards.

Hi everyone!I recently purchased a T480s with the following specs:- i7 8550u- MX150 Graphics- 16GB of RAM- WQHD Display I am running a Setup with the following Displays: internal Display @ WQHD, external Display 1 @ WQHD, external Display 2 @ FHD.Everything works perfectly fine, if I connect External Display 1 via a Thunderbolt Dock and DisplayPort and External Display 2 via HDMI directly. The problem I encounter is the following:I have some "small Adapters" for Thunderbolt -> HDMI or Display Port. They used to work fine until yesterday, now all adapters, except for one (USB C -> HDMI, USB and USB-C) have stopped working. All I get is a message stating that there is a malfunctioning USB device.Funny part: All adapters work fine on a Dell XPS15, Lenovo MIIX 510 Tab, and so on. Whats the problem? I already tried System Restore to a few days ago, did not help... Thanks,Jakob

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. I had this one all of a week. Did I miss any other steps while I wait for it to be repl... Read more

Good Day all,

So I could use some advice.. Im really stuck on why I cant get it to do what I want and not sure what my best solution to solve..

Problem:
I have a laptop I am out putting video signal to a hdmi splitter box (which is power boosted to ensure no signal loss) to a monitor and to a tv (thats more monitor than tv) . The signal going to the 2nd monitor and tv arent 1080p which is what I would like it to be. I currently am using the thunderbolt output to the splitter and then hdmi to both monitor and tv.

I do have the ability to output via HDMI but thought that thunderbolt was better (I could be wrong of course)..

Im looking to have 1080p at both monitor and tv.

Here is the hardware I am running

ROG G750JH Laptop (http://tinyurl.com/y6f5or5v)
(Minor changes to laptop, its running a 500gb ssd, 750 hd, and currently 16 gig of ram, but will be upgrading to 32 very soon)
Splitter box (http://tinyurl.com/yylqsty7)

Sorry, dont have the monitor / tv info at present, but will post that tonight if possible.

So whats my best option to output 1080p? I would very much like to not have to spend a lot of money if possible. Just looking for advice and options at this point..

Thanks
Kaz

On the P52 specs, it says that it can drive 4 independent displays, and for the Thunderbolt ports, the max resolution is [email protected] But what is the max resolution at 60Hz? Can I have the 4k laptop screen, plus two 4k external monitors individually connected to the two Thunderbolt ports, all running at 4k and 60Hz? (when I say 4k, i mean 3840x2160) Link to spec:https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20P52/ThinkPad_P52_Platform_Specification... For reference, here are the specs for the other video ports:[email protected] (DisplayPort via Mini DisplayPort cable)[email protected] (HDMI)Note, I prefer to avoid the HDMI port if possible, due to issues from a P50 I'm currently using, no idea if they have been fixed or not in the P52.

HiOne of my users are experiencing frequent dropouts of video and power when using his Carbon X1 6th gen on a philips 3440 x 1440 ultrawide with thunderbolt, the screen is also capable of delivering power to the machine. When we plug in the USB-C 2 things might happen.1. The built in screen flashes a few times then gives up, only use the built in screen, no power is being sent to the computer.2. It works. Screen flashes onces like it windows usualy does when you connect a external monitor and power is being delivered to the computer as well. But even if it works it will eventualy drop out after a random period of time, might be 5 minuttes later or it might even last for 3-4 hours. Here are the things ive tried so far.Update the thunderbolt firmware.Update the Intel 620 integrated graphics driver. And i have also flashed the bios with the newest version.I also tried on several diffrent monitors all the same model and i have also tried with a brand new X1C6 but it shows the exact same behaviour.New USB-C cableIt also worth mentioning that i tried connecting a X1C5 to the same monitors with the same connector (USB-C) and they work flawlesly. Is there somthing wrong with the hardware on the X1C6 or is this a driver issue? The screen is a Philips 349P (349P7FUBEB/00)Im kind of stuck on what to do now, any sugestions and help is very much appriciated.

Hello Everyone, I am new here so please go easy on me.I just bought and X1 Carbon 5th Gen laptop c/w Thunderbolt 3.0 docking station. The problem that I have is that the docking station won't recognise any of the external screens that are connected.I am using two Acer screens (one is connected using HDMI port on the dock and the other one uisng Display port).I have tried by connecting just one screen but nothing.I can see that Thunderbolt software is installed and its connected to my laptop. The laptop will charge through the docking station and also the wireless mouse and keyboard will work fine through the dock.Lenovo recommended that i should update my drivers. So I installed Lenovo Companion from Windows store. But it won't update my system. After clicking on System Update, I will get an error message saying "There is a problem in reteriving new updates for your system. Please try again later".Hence I downloaded all the drivers from support website and installed them manually but my docking station is still not working with the external monitors. The monitors works fine when connected directly to the laptop using the HDMI cable. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I am looking to buy a t480, t480s or X1 carbon, I am now deciding which one to get. I was hoping to use the laptop with 2 asus MB16AC USB screens, so a screen that takes power from the USB-C port and uses DisplayPort? Alt Mode for USB Type-C? to connect to the display without any drivers. Would this work on the X1 if I use the 2 Thunderbolt ports?Would this work on the t480/t480s if I use the Thunderbolt port and USB-C / Charging port? I know the screen can install a displaylink driver if it's can't connect through DisplayPort? Alt Mode for USB Type-C?, but I don't want to use the driver,m I only want to connect through the native connection. Thanks!Gianni

But today 2nd monitor stopped working agian and I tried all my past actions but it sill not working. Maybe it depended on Windows or thunderbolt drivers? (Cabel and monitor are OK I checked)
