I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi: I am pretty sure you need this driver. The latest is for W8.1. This package provides the driver that enables the Intel SidebandFabric device. Intel Sideband Fabric Device Driver is a bridge tothe Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework. This package isprovided for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp65474.exe I don't know if not having that driver installed is related to the black screen issue.

We are working with Symantec and their Endpoint Protection product.  They have the ability to block writing to a flash drive unless we configured it in their application.  We configured this back in the fall of 2015, and it was working fine.  We
have not had an upgrade to the application except for Anti Virus Definition files.
Recently, the drives we are creating were not functioning properly.  We called Symantec and work with them over several days.  The problems seems to be when we go into Device Manager, Disk Drives, Select Flash Drive Properties, click on Details
tab, under Property, select Device Instance Path which where we get the unique ID for each flash drive.
While using this data used to work, what has happened recently is the ID being given is not "refreshing" from the previous flash drive, so it is giving us the same ID for each drive we put in.
We have tried the following:
What was done used same 3 flash drives.  Put in USB port and obtained Device Instance Path from One ? Ejected it through Device Manager by clicking uninstall.  Did the same for flash drive 2 and 3.  All 3 reports same Device Instance Path
#.  We tried this on 3 pc's here in our business that are on Windows Server 2008 Domain, computer running Windows 7 Pro 64.
I took home three flash drives, and did the above test with my daughters Windows 10 (Home 64) HP Laptop.  All three reported the same instance path ID.

I have windows vista x64 installed. My system is an AMD 64 X2 6000+, ASUS M2A - VM motherboard. I cannot figure out what device is unknown. Can someone give me any ideas what it could be? I've used Driver Detective and it says all of my drivers are up-to-date.

A:Unknown Device (Related to ACPI)

It is probably the Asus ATK0110 ACPI driver. I have no idea what it is for but I have seen it only on Asus motherboards. Check the driver disk that it came with and you should find it hidden on their somewhere. It doesn't show up on Asus support site for your motherboard which might mean it is something else.

From what I read, It seems there are drivers out there that will install fine but they will hose performance so be real careful.

Hi,I recently upgraded my DV2416us to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit using the custom option. There were no glitches and thewhole process ran smoothly. Almost all the upgraded drivers auto updated through Windows Update. I did notice, though, that there is still a device listed in Windows device manager under "Other Devices" that is "UnknownDevice". I can find no driver for this device and, if I uninstall it, upon rebooting, it reappears. The descriptionin device manager says:The drivers for this device are not installed. A:Unknown Device on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System

Actually the computer is not fully compatible with Windows 7 and that is why you are receiving the ACPI error.  If you look on the Dell website you will see that dell has not provided support for either Windows 7 nor Windows 8.  Dell only supports
Windows XP and Windows Vista.
The ACPI error is caused by the AMD Away feature that Dell implemented for Windows XP and Windows 7 does not support that feature.  I have the exact same system and I have not been able to find a complete solution to the ACPI error.
One website,
http://www.pcpitstop.com/libraries/driver/detail.asp?driver=AMD~AwayMode.html , notes there is no AMD Away driver for any Windows systems. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello, While trying to update to the latest Insider Build of Windows 10 which is Build 15002, I was being prevented by a BSOD error on Update Installation(a.k.a The Green Screen of Death) So after some research, I found that I should make sure all my Drivers are updated. I have a Toshiba P875-S7200 laptop. I put an Intel 240GB SSD in it, put an untouched Windows 7 x64 on it (using X17-58997.ISO), and activated it with my own COA key.
I got all the missing drivers installed except for one. Using the VEN and DEV #'s from the Hardware ID and going to sites like pcidatabase.com, etc, I learned what the (vaguely labeled) mystery hardware was, then got the official drivers from toshiba.com.
Problem is, this last one labeled Unknown device, has an unusual Hardware ID that looks like this:
I'm reluctant to install any driver software to have it find out but I was wondering about the drivers from DriverPacks.net. The page I'd be getting them from is here. Not knowing which driver I need, I wanted to get all of them, put on a DVD, then point the Device Manager to the disc to hopefully install it.
Is it safe to use the drivers from this site? If I get them and scan them with MBAM, SAS, and Avast, as long as they're clean, are they okay to use? I'm very leary of these things and could use some expert insight here.
If I shouldn't use these drivers, then what should I do about this mystery driver?
Thank you.

A:ACPI\TOS620A (Unknown device) missing driver help needed.

Hi Lee,
The DriverPacks.net packages are safe to use but I'm not sure they include what you need...
ACPI\TOS620A is related to software, go to the Toshiba website and type your serial number then on the list of drivers and software look for the HDD Protection Utility install and restart the computer.

Heres the situation:

I installed a fresh copy of WIN2000 on my IBM Thinkpad A21m but I am having a problem setting up a device in Device Mangager. I have no idea what is going on.

When i reboot the laptop it prompts me that it has found a new piece of hardware and it wants me to install the driver for it. The problem is that I have no idea what device it is since all the devices that should be working are working - so i don't know what to do.

The clues that I have noticed that might help:

- the laptop takes a LOOOONG time to boot up (3 or 4 mins), and is sort of sluggish in operation (compared to how it ran when i bought it)
- my internet connection is super slow ( I have a DSL router that serves 3 computers incl. mine, the other two have XP and everythign runs smooth)
- the unknown device says it is located on the the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller"

Would any one know what Device this "Unknown Device" is??? I just need to know so i can install the driver so my system can run properly.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

That's a core Windows component. You can try using Windows update or you can possibly just uninstall the device, reboot, and let Windows install the drivers. Aside from that, you will likely need to perform a Repair install (if you have an actual Windows CD) or a Restore.

Note: Device manager lists appropriate bluetooth antennae.  Some items are still showing up ok, but many (some new, some previously paired) are listed as unknown now, so they are useless to me until this is resolved.  This is a fairly new Flex5 (bought at Microcenter about a month ago).I ran the Lenovo "Vantage" program to get the latest bluetooth drivers on board.Tried uninstalling BT driver and running manual install of intel and Qualcomm drivers.  Windows10 is not seeing the Intel ones, I think as when I try to change the driver to the intel ones I only see the the QualcommAtheros and the generic bluetooth drivers available.  I ran that installation a number of times, but havn't been able to try the Intel drivers yet.  I'm not sure if they will fix the problem, but would like to try them, unless someone here can point me at something else that may be the cause.  Thanks for any info!

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?

A:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Well it might be a good idea to look at the following tutorial:

Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices

Use the link in Step 7

Also I tend to find this tool useful:

Download Tweaking.com - Hardware Identify Portable - MajorGeeks

Right click on each result in the list for more options.

Edit: On my machine a similarly named device appears to be a webcam.

In the list USB Composite Device doesn't mean much but matching the ID seems to indicate that it's the webcam.

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

My 7270 latitude touch screen stopped working shortly after first use (after win update worked again but for a short time).
All drivers are up to date.
In device manager a USB device shows as unknown (yellow warning triangle), otherwise there are no indications to the source of the problem.  There is no other touch screen device showing in device manager.
How do I perminently solve this?

How do i figure out what driver or even component windows wants software for when in the device manager under other devices it lists an unknown device and windows update cannot find anything.

Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. I have not experienced this problem on any other pc running any version of windows 7, oh and the same happened with build 7264 x32 and the current install of build 7600 x64.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Since very recently an unknown device keeps popping up in the device manager every time I start Win. It's reported location is within the front USB root hub but I haven't changed there anything lately. The device status reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)". I can uninstall/disable it but it will get picked up again the next time I reboot. All other usb devices (mouse, keyboard, web camera, APC UPS, external drive, printer) work fine. How do I get rid of this nuisance so that it doesn't reappear?

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!
