lenovo idea pad z410 keeps throttling

Q: lenovo idea pad z410 keeps throttling

My laptop was working fine while i was playing (league of legends to be exact) when suddenly my fps went down greatly then i found out the problem was my laptop was running on 800MHz (using realtemp) and won't go up. I could not find the problem much less the solution. When i couldn't find anything i tried the one key recovery to revert to factory settings, but still the problem persisted. I found on the net that most people with this problem used throttle stop so i did too. It was working fine but then my charger broke (my battery is dead too, broke around a week or two before my charger). I thought that my charger was causing the throttling because my laptop worked great again after buying a new charger. But that lasted only for a day. It is now throttling again at 800MHz. I am afraid that something will break again but i can't seem to find the problem. temperature is consistently around 40-60 degrees C. I hope someone knows or previously had this problem that found a solution. or at least knows exactly what the problem is. Thanks in advance SpecsOperating System: Windows 8.1 Single Language 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_gdr.130913-2141)Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: LENOVOSystem Model: 20292BIOS: 8DCN38WWProcessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4702MQ CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHzMemory: 8192MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 8104MB RAMPage File: 3193MB used, 6190MB availableWindows Dir: C:\windowsDirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not foundUser DPI Setting: Using System DPISystem DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)DWM DPI Scaling: DisabledDxDiag Version: 6.03.9600.16384 64bit Unicode display ------Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600Manufacturer: Intel CorporationChip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics FamilyDAC type: InternalDevice Type: Full DeviceCard name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740MManufacturer: NVIDIAChip type: GeForce GT 740MDAC type: Integrated RAMDACDevice Type: Render-Only Device

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had my Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 since around January, and I have just recently expierienced the problem of the battery dropping to zero. What happens is my battery will be draining at a normal pace then all of a sudden my laptop will shut down and will not go back on as it thinks the battery is dead. If it is plugged when this happens then the orange battery low light will begin flashing and the message goes from saying "Fully charged (100%)" to "1% remaining (plugged in, charging)". This is quite annoying as I cannot take my laptop anywhere without fear of it randomly dying on me. I would assume I wouldn't need a new battery after only having the laptop for a few months. Also, if you are not familiar with this model, the battery is built in internally so I cannot try removing it and putting it back in myself. Any advice would be appreciated; I'd rather not deal with Lenovo's customer support unless I absolutely have to.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z410 Battery Suddenly Drops From 100% to 0%

hi LordMothim,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Based from your findings, it's possible that:
- the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or
- one of the battery cells have already reached its life span
- the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.

Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you're still under warranty, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need a replacement battery.

My Lenovo Z410 came with v37 BIOS dated 2013.I went to Lenovo website and downloaded and ran 8DCN40WW.exeInstead of taking normal time to flash, Windows started rebooting after only a couple sec. No bootup. No beep. No Lenovo logo. Power light comes on. Blank screen (no backlight). After 50+ bootup attempts I sometimes get the blue error message at bootup:InsydeH20 invalid firmware image. After changing RAM positions, and trying the Lenovo "rescue" bootup button, I got a bootup.CPU-Z still shows the BIOS is V37 (ie it didn't flash). I know I have Secure Boot enabled. So, to fix this I believe I need to force flash the old v37 BIOS image. SUGGESTIONS?HELP?

A:BIOS v40 flash failed on Lenovo Z410. No boot (screen blank). InsydeH20 invalid image firmware!

Forgot to mention.I already tried "draining power". IE disassembling my laptop, and disconnecting the battery and AC adapter, and holding power button for 60sec+ many times. It doesn't fix the issue. Also, the RAM position etc, obviously has nothing to do with anything. I was able to bootup with exact same 2x DIMM config as originally.

Having an issue with my laptop where it will throttle intermittently in certain situations. Sometimes when I plug the laptop in it will throttle heavily with the cpu reading at 0.78 Ghz. I have to put it into sleep mode to correct the problem. Also when I am playing certain games the laptop will run smoothly then it will lag  for a few seconds then run smoothly again for around 10 seconds then lag and so on. I installed a program and it was detected as TDP throttle and I'm not sure how to get around this issue.

Hello again, after my battery problem was fixed, i got into another problem. My CPU is constantly throttling to 24% of it's capacity. It's an Intel i3 5005u 2.0ghz processor, and it never goes to 2.0gz, but stays at .48ghz all the time. The temp. seems to be always near 40-44 degrees and never goes up.I just changed my thermal paste, and nothing seems to be fixing it. PS: Power is on High Performance and the laptop is always plugged in.UPDATE: I forgot to mention it's Windows 10 (it's a full edition, original DVD copied to USB with original license purchased last year)

Hi, I've been experiencing this throttling issue for the past month now ( I've had this laptop since January). The fps drop from 170 to 60 for a couple of seconds and go back up to the initial value. I've had this issue a couple of times before but it would fix itself after restart (usually had it when I wake the laptop from sleep and immediately load CS:GO).  Now, I notice that this happens everytime I start playing and the temp goes above 69 degrees - I used to play with 170-200fps before with GPU temps surpassing 80 degrees with no fps drops at all.  This is really frustrating, especially when knowing that my brother has no FPS drops using my 5 year old Lenovo Y570 with  geforce GT 555m...Is there any way to fix this? I mean the gaming experience, as stated above was fine until a week ago, when I started getting these FPS drops, so that means that this issue can actually be fixed. Specs are Intel Core i7-6700HQGTX960M 4GB12 GB DDR4256GB SSD  ( CS:GO is on the SSD if that matters)I use Speedfan to check the temps. CS:GO is using the nvidia gpu, and the gpu is se to performance, power saving is disabled i am using balanced performance and set all advanced settings to maximum performance.

Hello everyone, I have a lenovo z51-70 with i5-5200U and 4gb r9 m375. It has been performing excellently for the past 1.5 years or so, but suddenly one issue came up with gaming. When i game, its fine for around a minute and then the game starts stuttering, checked the cpu speed and found it to be 0.48Ghz, which dropped from near 2.6Ghz. Checked out the intel extreme tuning utility when this happens and found that it was THERMAL THROTTLING by the CPU, this doesn't happen even when benchamrking. So, I want to know why this thing has suddenly started out in my laptop and is there any way to cure it. Other info: Haven't changed anything with that tuning utility, drivers and all are updated, still in warranty, adapter connected to the socket, gaming in high performance, cooling policy set to active, max cpu usage set to 100%, virtualisation enabled(default) The picture: Started the Witcher 3 to show the throttling, the peaks are when the game was running and then suddenly after 30s, poof to 0.48Ghz. Memory consumption is normal, it will reduce after i have shut down the game.

Even if it did not solve u might have to consider installing AMD Overdrive(Like Intel XTU) and change the processor multiplier of all cores to your specific clock frequency...... Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ACZRECAP:                       So If many of you are not aware. The lenovo Y700 series is known for having a problem on all models. That is that the CPU throttles because a dust filter is blocking the majority of air from coming into the laptop vent system. This causes the cpu is reach very high temperatures. When the cpu is under load, rather than going from core clock speeds 2.1GHZ to turbo clock speeds 3.4GHZ, the cpu is overheating and cannot maintain a 3.4GHZ clock speed, dropping done to low clock speeds like 1.5GHZ to maintain ideal CPU temperatures. In other words, CPU Throttling. This causes gaming to be very frustrating because your FPS will spike up and down randomly. Problem:                    My problem is that i have removed the dust filter that should be the source of CPU throttling, but running CPU-Z my clock speeds are still going from 3.4GHZ down to lower clock speeds like 2,5GHZ and sometimes 1,5GHZ. Everyone, and everywhere i have checked people have said that the dust filter fixed the cpu throttlings but i might have messed up somewhere else. My laptop for sure feels much cooler than before, and performance is a bit better but still up and down. What i have Done:                          So this is what i have done to prevent CPU throttling.Plugged i... Hi Everyone, Hello Lenovo, I bought this laptop recently, and I was satisfied so far until i decided to play a game. I bought this one because it has a discrete graphics for a lightweight gaming. But after about 10 mins of playing any kind of 3D game (Dota, CSGO, CoH, even Telltale games) fps drops start to occur - graphics settings in the game doesnt matter (low vs high - hd vs fhd .. still the same shuttering, fps droping). After some googling and testing via gpuz i discovered that there is thermal cap at 61-62C and if the card reaches this temp, it will start downclocking - After 10 mins of playing, GPU clocked itself at somewhere around 650Mhz (default clocks are around 950MHz), reason of throttle: thermal - via gpuZ. I tried using a cooling pad, but it doesnt seem to help much. Via Nvidia Inspector: there is a thermal limit set to 61C, but u cannot modify this setting, then in the other two states of a card (i think those are the states, that are triggered by the thermal limit) there are clocks set to 405MHz - neither these are modifiable, so i think, that after some more gpu usage, it would continue dropping to 405MHz.   I have tried:I have installed the newest nvidia drivers. There is no problem with power management settings (been set to max via windows power plan manager).I have also tried every power management settings in nvidia control panel (max power, adaptive etc,) - no positive results. I dont even think i got a defecti... I turned my Lenovo laptop on Friday to see the usual splash Lenovo on start up and then nothing else happened it kept continually doing that and going no further. Just so you know my laptop has no warranty left as I got it last Christmas second hand. I have been looking at demonstration videos on you tube and what I have tried so far is. I plugged in an external usb keyboard and got into bios and checked it was detecting my hard drive and it was. The next step I did was disconnect internal power/ battery and did the hold of the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute  with the power cord connected only. And it was still doing the same. I then got advised to remove the cmos battery turn on laptop and then back off and put the battery back in. This has also failed to work so now I am looking for help here as I don't know what to do next and am hoping someone here has a different suggestion for me to try and hopefully get my laptop back up and running. Hello, I?m new here and hope that someone can help me with my problem. First the specs of my notebook:-Lenovo IdeaPad Y50-70-OS: Windows 10, 64-bit-CPU: Intel Core i5-4210, 2,9GHz, 2 Cores-RAM: 8GB-GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600/ NVIDIA Geforce 960M-hard drive: 890GB HDD, 25GB SSD Since two months or so I have FPS drops in my games. I didn?t have them before. I?m sure that Fallout 4, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, etc. worked perfectly fine. But then it started. Here an example of the FPS drops:In League of Legends, which I had first installed on the SSD, I always had a FPS of 90-180. Sometimes it drops to 10-20, when in a teamfight or even when simply moving. I installed it on the HDD now and have the feeling the drops happen less often. The FPS there is 60 and when it drops 9-13. And that?s what happens in a lot of games. In Skyrim, Fallout 4, Bastion, Far Cry 3 etc. They just lag when I move or when fighting? For weeks now I have searched for a solution, but found nothing that helped? I did/have checked the following things: -Using the lowest settings. Drops still happen. Even if it?s not a high end gaming notebook, I?m still expecting that it can play games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Far Cry 3 and LoL on the highest settings. The recommendations are met after all. These drops even happen in very old games like Stalker ? Shadow of Chernobyl?-Drivers are all updated. I checked on that several times already.-Removed malwar... Read more

System: Windows 10 64 bitAfter turning it on from sleepmode the keyboard and mouse weren't working. So I restarted it and Windows installed some updates. The keyboard and the TouchPad still weren't working. The USB mouse was, also the FN keys. I tried the F6 button it didn't help, so with the screen keyboard I was able to log in and type the pass. After that I went to device manager and the Lenovo TouchPad had a yellow triangle. So I went to Lenovo website and downloaded the driver, uninstalled and installed the new one, restarted again - no luck. When I clicked on the mouse menu in control panel popped up a message that said "couldn't connect to the driver. Etc etc" In device manager even after the update it was with yellow triangle. So I saw in a thread here in the forum that sometimes the installing of Synaptics driver helped, but after that even the USB mouse stopped working and the FN keys too, so I am no longer able to log in to the notebook with the screen keyboard. I can't enter BIOS with F2. Somehow I managed to get into recovery and the USB mouse was working there but when I tried to go into safe mode I can't because of the FN keys. Any suggestions how to solve this problem?

I normally point people to the real support page for their PC; but, your model is coming up in a foreign language!
Here is a link to the Hardware Maintenance manual:
https://www.manualowl.com/m/Lenovo/305-15IHW-Laptop/Manual/450741
If you're up to it, the correct course of action is to remove the LCD panel from the top cover so you can read its model number on the back. Buying that LCD model is what you really want to do and it should save you a bunch of money, too.

Hi chrisalk13  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

For newer computers , preventing batteries to reach 100 % are buffer to prolong battery life.
Energy manager softwares  and BIOS smart battery technology would control this buffering.

Disabling such features and turning the power options to high performance from default conservation mode would allow it to reach 100 % .

Update us how it goes for you.

Voice narrator informs me that all the screen icons are there so everything is working apart from the screen! One tech guy reconed it was a hardware problem and i'd need a new motherboard at a cost of 200... however, another tech guy said, 'it's a software problem relating to Win 10... so, who is right, and what can i do about it?! Please help if anyone can as it's an amazing piece of kit with a large screen, at the moment i am using a refurb Dell latitude which is absolute crap, so i want the Lenovo up and running again as soon a possible! Any ideas? Regards, Steve.

Dear Steve,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Could you please try to connect external monitor to your machine, and check if you will have signal on the external monitor or not.

Regards,
Joseph

Apologies if this is covered somewhere more specifically, but quick searches were not finding it. Just bought a Lenovo Idea Pad because of some incompatibilities between Chromium on Linux and some sites I need access to, and en passant filled it with some retrogames because I frankly forgot how large a footprint Windows has compared to Linux (17 Gb in the Windows folder, ye gods), so quickly hit space  warnings. Unfortunately, they're not going away with uninstalls. Cleaned temp files, cccleaners, removed games, removed Office (Google meets my needs so pfft), still getting warnings, 6 1/3rd Gb free on disk and Windows update is still returning warnings about updates requiring < 1Gb of temp space, Chrome returns failures downloading large files that are nonetheless well under the space free, et al. My initial feeling was this was a nice simple Windows 10 install for my needs, but actually I had 2Gb free even when I had the games installed, and this is getting ridiculous. What's causing these false space warnings? Thanks,Jonnan

My power adapter to my Y500 Idea pad is messed up. The wiring inside must have gotten damaged somehow and is now faulty. It only charges my laptops when angle in certain positions, or goes in and out. It's the 170W AC adapter one, but is there really a difference in using one of the small Wattage Adapters? The 170W one is just way out of price-range for me so I'm looking for one of the cheaper versions. I found one online that is "Y500 AC Adapter 90Watt 19V 4.74A". Would that work with my laptop?  I don't understand how different wattages affect my laptop (I'm assuming it affects charging time) so any help is appreciated. I generally keep my laptop plugged in with the battery removed, so I don't have to worry too much about charging the battery, if that's any help.Thank you!

My laptop was working wonderful when I noticed a barely visible vertical line appear in the background off an on.  Within about a week, the entired screen developed both horizontal and vertical lines that cover the entire screen off and on.  The screen now mostly remains blurred with a few seconds of the regular screen off and on.  The screen still responds to touch and works fine when attached to another screen.  There is no damage to the laptop?   Geek Squad believes the graphic card is bad.  I bought this comuter 02/19/2015 and this issue began 06/10/16.  Just a few months out of warranty.  I am waiting to see what Lenovo can do for me now if anything.  I was told that Lenovo computers are amongst the best and I may have purchased a lemon.

Sometime when I turn on my Lenovo its starting making this continuous beeping noise...there are times when it doesn't make the noise and times when it does...what do I do?

A:my Lenovo flex10 idea pad is making a beeping nois...

Check for a stuck key on the keyboard,   If one key is stuck it will fill the keyboard buffer and will beep something like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-lZ6qkVfWg If that is what you are hearing, no worries, but a good cleaning of the keyboad using some canned air and a vacume cleaner might be in order. Good luck.
