Sound staying low. Sound static. Sound Cutting in and out.

Q: Sound staying low. Sound static. Sound Cutting in and out.

I am having sound trouble. The sound is cutting out. Sometime it works fine. Recently, it will just cut out, stay really low are only be static. IT happens with music and also when I am video chatting. Someone may be talking and the sound will just go really low or cut out completely. I have had technicians reinstall all drivers and it will work sometimes but not all the time. Sound seems to work fine with headphones.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all,  Please advise has anyone of you encountered with the static noise on headphones and popping/clicking sound on speakers while on battery? All these things happen before any video\audio is starting to play. Static sound also is hearable after audio/video is stopped. And how did you resolve this problem?? Thanks!

I have recently bought a secon hand Asus m2n-e sli mo'bo, from a friend.
All was going well, everything was set up with drivers from origional discs.

While playing a game (lost plannet: Extreeme condidtion) my pc crashed and reset itself. Since then i have been unable to get any sound, when sound is played it just makes a static sound. The only slight bit of sound i can hear is when playing the speaker test program in C-media. I can hear the voice slightly under the static sound.

I have tryed:
>All ports.
>Rolling back drivers.
>Latest C-media drivers from Asus.
> Ac97 drivers.

>Sound card:I tryed to use a Creative Audigy Soundblaster (X-Fi XtremeGamer). After inserting into my mobo my computer failed to boot, or even reach bios.

If anyone could provide answers/solution to either of my problems I would be very greatfull.

Thanks Craig

Cheers all,

Problem is as stated in the thread; I downloaded, untar'd and set the theme up today. I know it's specifically the "Close Window" sound since it's unique from the others. I'm referring to the following actions in particular (there may be more things I could do to proc it, but I haven't checked yet)...
Opening a Program
Opening a Folder in Windows Explorer
Starting a new Windows Explorer Session
Closing a Window (expected function)
Closing a Windows Explorer Session (expected function)
Those not followed by (expected function) have a different sound assigned to them, although the Close Window sound plays anyways. Not always immediately after the action is performed, either - there can be anywhere from a 1 to 15 second delay before the .wav plays.

The sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media\AltimitOS\ with AltimitOS being a custom folder I copied in. I originally untar'd everything to the desktop, then created and moved everything into the folder and tried running the theme from there. I've made sure all file paths are leading to the \Media\AltimitOS folder.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... When I'm playing on my computer this issue gets worse and worse. When I start it up its not that noticable but gets worse the longer im playing on it. The problem is that it comes a clicking noise in my headphones then the sound cuts off and then the clicking sound comes again and the sound comes back. Its really annoying and I really want it to get fixed. One time i watched the volumemixer and when it happened it looks like the computer are not picking up the headphones so it switches to a different speaker (My monitor speakers, although they dont exist) but when the click comes back again it notices them and it reverts back to normal.

I have Windows 10 and for probably over a year it's likely that I've had a virus on my computer. Something occasionally pops up with something called 'binkiland' which I have deleted a few times and ran avast anti virus scans and deleted but it's never properly gone. Recently, my computer's sound functions have completely stopped working after about 10 minutes into steaming something/playing previously downloaded music/Skype calling - either the sound playing cuts out and the film/music etc freezes shortly afterwards, or with the case of Skype, the microphone stopped working though I could still hear the other person. There does not appear to be any IRQ conflicts in device mgr, deleteing card and re-installing did no good.

I've searched around a bit looking for a solution, and I'll continue to look, there's gotta be an easy fix?

Over the last week or so when I play mp4 video files, which have been burned to DVD disks, their sound output cuts in and out continuiously. To say that this is an annoyance is an understatement. I have no idea what the cause could be. Whether this is a hardware or software problem, I have no idea. I have to start somewhere, so I'm calling it in as a software glitch first. My first suspect is possible audio driver problems.

I have no idea how to check or replace my audio drivers. If one doesn't know what one is doing, then a lot of damage can be done in this area, so I'm asking for help. I'd also appreciate other scenarios of causes for this sound cutout problem with potential solutions. Has anybody out there had similar problems?

Thank you for your time.

Again, I have to move it around until the sound stops coming out of the speakers.  Any suggestions??

This has been a rather frustrating problem. I have an Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Whenever I am using an application with sound for any length of time, from as short as a minute to hours, the sound will briefly cut out for a few seconds and come back. I have tried letting windows install the driver and I have installed the driver myself. The really strange part is the sound seems to work fine over the digital optical but cuts out on my speakers and headphones which are in different ports on different sides of the computer. I am probably going to take the computer out and inspect it tomorrow to see if there is something in the case interfering. Any ideas where to look for a problem or how to fix it? I am at a loss.

I suspect you will find nothing physically wrong.
I have a feeling that sound generation is a low priority and will suffer whenever something your machine considers more important needs doing.
I have always noticed strange pauses or bursts of unexplained CPU activity and have never been able to find the cause.

Alright so I recently built a new pc, specs listed below. The computer has had a problem from very early on though with sound cutting out. For instance, after listening to music for around 20 minutes, I will hear a high pitched sound and then no audio. When I go to WMP, it just shows an error saying that an audio cable may have been uplugged, etc. The same thing can happen when watching videos or when playing video games as well. Usually it's the same thing, high pitched sound and then no audio until I either restart the application, or in more severe cases, restart the computer. If I play two forms of media simultaniously, for instance a game and music, it happens almost instantly every single time.

This is driving me INSANE. Now, when I built the computer, I tried installing a sound card but it was giving me problems. Well once it was determined to be DOA, I just decided take the refund and use on board audio because I have the Bose Companion 5 speaker system and it sounds great anyways. However, in my Device Manager I have an "Other Devices>Unknown Device" that shows up. This is where I think there could be the error, as the sound card was having driver issues as well, making me think that this unknown device could be the cause of the problem, perhaps causing a conflict.

My current devices listed under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" are:
Bose USB Audio (the speakers I stated)
High Definition Audio Device
NVIDIA High Definition Audio... Read more

Ok, so the problem is basic, but very annoying. The sound will cut off at random times, and I need to put the laptop in and out of sleep mode (basically close and open the screen) to get it to work again, temporarily. It happens regardless of whether I'm using my speakers or my headphones, so I think it's an issue with the sound card. It can sometimes happen once every few minutes, or even once every few seconds. It will never just randomly happen when no sound is playing, usually when I'm playing a game or producing/listening to music, though I get the feeling that harder the workload the more likely it is to cut out. It is VERY annoying. Below are my specs, let me know if you need more.Product name:HP ENVY 15 Notebook PCProduct number:E1P04AARTotal memory:8.00 GBProcessor name:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHzOS: Windows 8.1Sound driver (or what I think it is): High Definition Audio DeviceIMPORTANT: I saw this problem in many other forums, and most people suggested updating the sound driver. It was up to date when this problem started. I rolled back the driver, and it made the problem less severe for a short amount of time. I am at my wit's end here, and it's very important that I get this problem solved. I'm trying my luck here before I actually have to go to an IT support guy or, worse, give my laptop in for repair. Hello, My computer's sound started suddenly to cut every 1-2 seconds...I was on youtube, so I thought at the beginning that it's from my internet connection or the browser, I changed the browser and restarted the internet it does the same. I tried many sounds that I have on my hard drive it does the same, here I understood that it's not a streaming problem.
I said maybe it's temporary so I restarted the PC and noticed that even when I restart the PC or shutdown I have the same issu, I mean even the windows sound also cuts (you know the beep that windows does and that you hear when you restart/shutdown etc..).....so it's a general sound problem not related to an application, or streaming.
I tried to uninstall the sound drivers like suggested on some forums, I restarted the PC, windows reinstalled by itself the sound driver (high definition audio) and the problem remain the same. I tried to plug a headphone same problem remain.
I tried mp3, wma etc..same issu its not related to the file extension.
when you listen to a music, it keeps cutting it give an effect like if you have a frog each second ... to help you understand more how it cuts, here is an example attached to what I hear when listening to music.
I spent my day on it yesterday couldn't find a working solution so If any of you can help me I will be much thankfull.

The Dell latitude D530 was first released in November of 2007.  If this is one of these it would make this computer eleven years old.  A computer this old is going to start experiencing problems with component failures.  A good example are the electrolytic capacitors used in the power regulator circuit and power adapter. The breakdown of electrolyte results in a loss of Wattage.  I'm not suggesting that your specific problem is related to these caps, but you need to be aware that this computer has gotten old. What you could try would be to download a new audio driver from Support for Latitude D530 | Drivers & downloads | Dell US, the SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio, v., A10 is the driver you want. Download this to your desktop so you can find it easily, open Device Manager, click on Audio Inputs and Outputs. When this opens double click on your audio.Click on the Driver tab, click on Up date driver.  You will receive two options, you will see these in the image below.
 audio options.PNG   13.82KB
0 downloads Click on the second option.  A page will open with the message Search for drivers in this location, click on browse and select Desktop as your location.  Click on Next and continue following the instruction to complete the installation.

I have a Windows 7 Asus P8Z77-V PC, with 12GB RAM that has two graphics card. My primary card is a AMD Radeon HD 7800 series and a AMD Radeon HD 6450.

Now, the sounds or music that play on my computer would randomly cut off every couple of minutes. I am using HDMI to connect the graphics card 7800 to my Vizio HDTV. I can't really determine the cause of the fading music.

I don't really know how else to phrase this but the 0's are the music playing and the blank spaces in between are what cuts it off:

0000000000000000 0000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000
and so forth. I am also using an RCA Home Theatre System RTD209 that's connected on a splitter using the AUX cable and that's also connected to the back of the TV. I also figured out that both TV and the Speaker systems were both experiencing this problem. I thought it was just my HTS. But I have a hunch that it has something to do with my video card drivers. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I hope I made some sense. Any questions will be answered to help clarify things. Thanks again.

A:Sound cutting off at random times

I don't know how dual video cards would work with the HDMI audio. If both video cards have HDMI audio enabled, maybe one is conflicting. If both do have HDMI audio and both are enabled, disable the HDMI audio for the 6450 in the Device Manager and see if that makes any difference.

Although Windows will only allow one default sound playback device, again I don't know what the two video cards would do or cause.

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding my Ideapad Y580 and a strange sound error I have been experiencing over the past few months. Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Centeri7 3630QM8GB RAMGTX660M500GB Samsung EVO 840 Ok here's the sound issue.  After using a program such as Minecraft, VLC, Nightingale, the sound will completely cut out.  When checking volumes, sound will not register.  Oftentimes, the sound control panel will say the device is busy. Things I've tried so far:1) Disabled Realtek Digital Output2) Installed latest driver3) Checked current processes for remnants of programs using the sound card.. nothing. Sometimes when I have one of the programs open, for example playing minecraft, when I start a video in VLC, there will be no sound.  The only sound comes from the game. The only thing that really restores the audio is a full restart of the system.  Logging out and back in will not restore the sound.Has anyone experienced this issue?  Is there a way to fix this problem?  Thanks guys!

One suggestion..... have you tried uninstalling the audio driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  If the previous driver installation was faulty, installing the latest driver may have not corrected the problem.

T430 user here, I have a sound issue, the sound always cuts out when above a certain level, so for example in a movie, any loud noise would be cut off. I suspect it is a hardware issue.I tried Win7 and Win10, but the same happens. Played around with drivers. I have to keep the sound to a low level to be able to have sound at all. Obviously not good when you want to hear a song or a youtube video and you cannot be in the close proximity of the laptop. The sound via headphones or external speakers seems fine. Anyone has any idea? Could this be a sign of a hardware malfunction, like the integrated amplifier chip, or the speakers? Thank you, this is driving me nuts, so any suggestion would be really appreaciated!

Hello - I have a Wave PC Model 600-a014. It had been used briefly as a demo machine at a convention. I am about to use it for field demo work and do i hit f9 and had it do a factory reset. I had personally not used this specific pc at this point. After a long factory reset, it reboot with normal setup screens and it said there were updates available and did i want to do that. I selected yes and it went and updated the pc. After the update was done, i was looking at the settings and i noticed there was no sound coming from the Wave speakers. I checked the usual control panels and Bang & Olufsen software and I could not make sound happen. I plugged in some headphones to the from port of the Wave PC and no sound at all either. I have the PC hooked up via HDMI to the HP monitor and that is the only peripheral that is connected. I have uninstalled the realtek driver and reinstalled it and no difference. Any other sugggestions out there would be much appreciated ! Tony

Description of problem: at some point when playing audio, sound will cut out. The levels will still be moving on the mixer, but no sound will come through the speakers or sound jack. It seems that soon after I've closed all sound-producing applications, sound returns. I am 50-75% sure that this is strictly a sound jack issue, as I don't remember being able to reproduce the issue without the sound jack being active when the audio drops out. Frequently, bumping my headphones' cord seems to cause the problem, but other times, the problem seems to happen on a click, a loud sound, or seemingly nothing at all.

I am unsure of how to reliably reproduce the problem, so it is difficult to diagnose whether or not the problem can be reproduced when the sound jack is not active. This isn't common use for me...

Origin: Appeared mid-October, around the same time I had upgraded to the newest drivers (where the old ones were from earlier than May 2013). All were downloaded through the Lenovo website and/or Lenovo's System Update utility, with the exception of the Intel graphics drivers, which were downloaded through the Intel website. At this point, I was running Windows 8, not Windows 8.1. I installed Windows 8.1 recently, and the problem remains.

What I've tried: disabling drivers, reinstalling drivers, disabling sound effects, disabling audio application overrides...

What I haven't tried: rolling back drivers (being honest, I have a bit of trouble believing that this is strictly ... Read more

Hello, please can you help me solve this problem.

Suddenly, in the last few days days the sound just cuts out if I am watching content......ie iPlayer, YouTube etc.

If I reconnect to the content the sound is fine but then a few moments later it disconnects again.
It was all working fine until now.

I am elderly so please explain simply as I am not used to technical stuff, pathetic I know but I am trying hard!

Best regards.

A:Satellite L750 - sound keeps cutting out every couple of minutes

Does sound cut out completely or you can hear it every few seconds?
Have you installed some updates or done anything that can be responsible for this?

Of course, on this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. Try to roll back OS to earlier time, just to see if the problem will persist.

Do you know how to do this?

Hey i brought a new pc 2days ago and im already hitting issues, it appears the sound is cutting out and only a restart is fixing it. Its happend three times so far, third time the sound going followed by video going slow then the usbs cut out. So im struggling to see whats happening.

My pc specs:
Windows 7 Home Preium 64-bit
Intel Core i5 processor 650
ATI Rodeon - HD 5570 1024MB
4GB DDR3 RAM memory

This makes no sense because the drivers are up to date, its a fresh computer, i have nortan so no viruses. Automatic updates are up to date.

I hope someone has some clue to this problem

Thanks Sean

Hello! I have problem with sound cutting. Approximately once in minute sound stutters and it's very annoying if you are watching movie or listening music. I have plug my Lenovo P50 in "ThinkPad 230W Workstation Dock" and dock is pluged in 4K monitor (BenQ PD3200U) with DP-cable and another HDMI cable goes to amplifier (Pioneer VSX-923). There is no stuttering problem with aux or bluethoot but I can't output 5.1 sound trought these so HDMI is only way do this. Also if I move the HDMI cable directly in laptop HDMI port while laptop is in the dock there is no sound problem. I have latest drivers for Quadro M2000 and for the dock. (All other drivers also is updated.) I think problem is in the dock drivers? but i am not expert... Sorry for bad english.

Stumbled upon this trying to fix my static and it helped it out a bit, not 100% though but thought i would share it.

goto your playback devices > click your speaker properties > advanced > and change the default format to a higher setting, such as 24 bit, 48000hz (studio quality)

thats it, and of course you can play around; if you have an alright sound-system you can tweak your eq. settings and such to compensate for playback quality.

A:Static for all sound

The first thing I would try is a system restore to a day or two ago when all was well.

But it could be a hardware issue of some type---failure of a device or cable or connection.

I have been dealing with this problem and ran out of ideas in what to do. My computer has been experiencing static from all ports. This isn't any normal static though as my computer cannot hear anything. Every once in a while the speakers will allow some sound with even no static but those times are rare and don't last too long. I have done everything software wise to figure out what the issue is and cannot figure out what. Even the forums online don't seem to work. It isn't just my speakers as I have used another set and even bought a brand new set of earbuds to use on the ports. Each and every time it is the same thing, as if the static was coming from the computer itself, not the speakers. I am starting to believe this is a physical issue with the computer.

I get a static sound in my speakers at random and it won't stop. It's really annoying and the only way i can get rid of it is to restart my computer. It usually starts when I'm playing a game.It just bam! happens out of no where. I figure this is a program problem because my speakers themselves are just fine. This started happening when i upgraded to SP2 for XP. Any idea what's the problem? Possibly fixable?
