server timeouts and duplicate email

Q: server timeouts and duplicate email

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

Preferred Solution: server timeouts and duplicate email

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Windows XP and have a dsl connection. If I take too long typing an e-mail message I get logged out and the message is lost. Same thing happens in Word; if I have to stop in the middle of creating a document and don't return for a few minutes, I get an error msg. and have to close and start over. It's pretty frustrating. Is there a way to change the allotted time on either of these or what?

Hi all! I have been scouring the net loooking for some help with a problem our company is having.
We have our own smtp/pop3 server setup in house. We are using Dyndns' mailhop service in order to control spam, and it works! When someone sends our domain an email, it is forwarded to their servers, scanned and then forwarded to our server.

But lately we have been receiving our emails anywhere from one to several hours late. I looked at the headers for a bunch of messages and they are getting from point a to point b in a timely fashion, but from point b to c is the problem.

When I contacted Dyndns' tech support, they stated that their logs show that there were connection timeouts when trying to contact our server.

My question is how to troubleshoot this problem and find the point of failure.

Thanx in advance!

I need help...

We have a Fileserver, which is running Windows 2000 Professional. And throughout the day it is generally quite busy as staff are accessing data constantly.

What I need to know is, I am aware Windows 2000 allows only 10 Similtainious connections, however, is there a way to configure it so that these connections timeout a lot quicker if they are inactive, to allow more user to use these inactive points. Because sometimes it can take upto 10 minutes or sometimes 20 minutes for a connection to time out, and I am nearly at the point where I have to manually close users connections that dont have any files being used.

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated... Thankyou...

I am a Verizon FIOS user, have been for about 2 years. I have multiple Verizon emails accounts which up until about 3 months ago I never had any problems downloading/uploading msgs via OUTLOOK EXPRESS on my PCs.

Starting November of last year however, I constantly get "stuck" trying to connect to any/some/all of my Verizon mailboxes via either OUTLOOK EXPRESS or via a program called MAILWASHER.

Both MAILWASHER and OE used to be able to connect to the Verizon mail server and initiate downloads/uploads to my accounts in seconds. Now however, almost every time I try to connect to get my mail, one or several of the mailboxes gets stuck and times out. Sometimes they all work fine. Most of the time one or another get stuck. So I have to keep stopping then reinitiating the mail connections to eventually get my mail, over and over again.

Note that I have 2 different PCs with the exact same problem. Also that I have a Yahoo business mail account also defined for both OE and MAILWASHER and that account NEVER has a problem - it is only with trying to download the Verizon emails.

Whatever the problem is it appears to be related to Verizon FIOS itself or their mail servers. I have asked Verizon for help and it was a complete waste of time. I have also posted on a FIOS related forum (back in November) but have still not been able to figure this out, although someone else there said they were having the same problem.

I get errors like this in OE:

Greetings Folk,

After major problems, I have imported several folders of DBX files. For whatever reason (please dont ask ) ) i have multiple back up folders with mostly duplicat info but with lots of non duplicate info in the various back up folders as well.

1 - How do i delete the duplicates.
2 - i seem to have lost my Outlook Express subfolders is there a way to reveal them if possible.

Hi Walterose

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Importing will do that, keep adding and adding with each subsequent Import performed.
I usually try an Import using a new Identity first to see what results I can expect, "NOW you tell me", you say

This is what I have found so far that relates to duplicate messages:
Not free though.

Subfolders created under the Inbox or other folders?
Do you have Outlook Express configured to show all folders?
Tools > Options > General tab
place a checkmark in: Automatically display folders with unread messages
Close Outlook Express, then restart, subfolders should be showing if they contain unread messages.

Do you have Subfolders at all?

You can also check the directory where your Store Folder is kept and see if you can locate the names of the folders that appear to be missing.
In Outlook Express
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab
click the Store Folder button to see the path where the Identity keeps its .dbx files.
Close Outlook Express.
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to that directory and search for those folders.

Or run a Search
key in:
and look through the Search results for your missing folders.

If you locate the missing folders and they are still not showing in Outlook Exp... Read more

I keep getting duplicate emails,Ive reinstalled windows 7 and reinstalled Thunderbird as well but it is still doing it? I read on the knowledge database help section on Thunderbird that imap is used by default instead of pop which is what I originally set it up with.I'm using a different ISP now and still have the same problem. It must be coming from an email server but I don't know how to contact them or configure it? I'm at a complete loss on what to do about it now?

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails
I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

Help! Last night we had to re-IP one of our Windows 2003 Domimain Controllers that is running DHCP. After changing the DNS entry for the DC and changing the IP address on the DC we were able to go to our ROOT DC and add the Server with its new IP address to the list of authorized DHCP server but when we selected the entry for the DC with the old IP address and pressed "unauthorize", a message appeared on the screen saying that there was no object on the server. So what we have now is two entries in the DHCP authorized server list for the same server name but with different addresses and I can't remove the old one through the MMC or with NETSH. We would REALLY like to get rid of the entry with the old IP address. Can anyone tell me how I might get rid of this bogus entry? Thanks.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

Hey All,

I am working on a server and recently two of their mail accounts have began not sending out email. When I first looked into the outbound box, the mail I sent out is still pending. I've just found a pst file with all my old email. I'd like to put them back on the server (hotmail) but before doing that I've seen that some of them were not recived (or sent) to my actual address (@hotmail.com) but to an old one (@infinito.it). So I was thinking to export them from outlook 2013 to CSV, modify that address into the new one and then import them back on outlook 2013. The problem is that when I export them to CSV, in that file they don't have the date (received or sent) and so when I get them back on outlook 2013 they miss that info.
Can anyone help me doing this? I've been told that VBA macro should be useful for this, but having a look in it I have no idea of what I sould do.
Ah, instead of outlook 2013 I can also use thunderbird (45.3.0) if it's easier with it, but then I'd have to convert that pst file.

If I change that too the SSL settings for Incoming / Outgoing (serverusername.miniserver.com), it works and autofinds Connection Security as STARTTLS and finds the ports too. With this I can send emails fine, but I am not getting incoming emails, and I don't know enough about it too see what I'm doing incorrect, any help would be great, thanks.

I posted this on yahoo answers first, but the only response I got was "restart your outloook and try later." *facepalm* Glad to have found a place more dedicated to such problems.

For the past 6-8 weeks I have been experiencing timeouts with my ATT DSL. It seems to be getting progressively worse. I have swapped out every single piece of equipment that I can. I have had two different technicians come by a total of three times and they claim to be stumped.

When I run a ping google.com -t and just watch it, I might get 2-3 timeouts every 30 minutes or I might get one every 3-4 seconds or worse and anything in between. Sometimes I will get a large string of 3 or more timeouts in a row and when that happens generally the middle light on my 1701 HG-Gateway 2wire modem goes from green to orange. All the single and even double timeouts, it stays green but I lose connectivity.

I replaced the phone cord, the ethernet cord, the modem, and even the computer, and it is still the same. The technicians checked the box on the street twice and made some changes there, did a noise test that they said was normal, and then checked the box outside the house and cleaned up the wiring there.

I have had this service for almost 5 years and it has been fine. Just recently around they same time I started having this problem we cancelled our home phone # and now have a fake 0-number and no home phone (could be coincidence).

I have tried everything and asked everyone I know and replaced everything. If anyone here has any ideas or knows what could help I would appreciate it.

ps. - no other options for internet that I know of =/

I have been trying to download a new version of McAfee Internet protection suite ... the file is 48M ... my experience has been it downloads about 8 megs, stalls and after some time it begins again at about 2M ( I assume this is some sort of check point) This was repeat the amount downloading before timing out ranged from 5M - 23M. Eventually McAfee stops process. BTW I spent 1 hour on the phone with McAfee but got no relief and I got the feeling I was brushed off in the end.

My question: is there someway to eliminate this timeouts or at least get a Vista error number that will give an indication of what to do.

It happens more on Firefox than IE but it occurs often on both. This behavior began all at once but I can't tie it to a particular action on my part. I'm running Windows 7, Firefox 15.0.1 and IE9. I scan often with Spybot and Malwarebytes. I've also downloaded and installed Adaware but the scans show a flash page and then goes away and no scan is performed.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.

Every once in a while I get an error, OX800CCCOF, or something like that, but it turns out that is either a timeout on the part of my ISP, or bad phone lines, yeh, I'm a dial-up, but I just don't get some attachments or large emails because my ISP wants to save bandwidth, or time, or whatever. So, my question is: Is there a way to set the IE, (5.5), or Outlook Express to keep the system busy so I won't get timed-out? I'm trying to avoid programs such as "stay live", and "stay alive", or any other utility like that.

I was gonna start a thread but this seems like it could go here ;) if not I apologize.

I've had tons of timeouts and general sluggishness tonight. so much so that I thought it was my router or modem. everything was fine with them. same sites using wireless (not 3g) on my phone load right up. remote desktop into my server and using ie on it they were fine. so I thought maybe it was my NIC so I updated the driver. same thing. changed Ethernet cable, same thing. same sites on chrome and ie load up just fine. using firefox 7.0.1. I run ccleaner practically daily so not a lot of temp files etc. virus/malware free etc. a few weeks ago firefox was so slow on certain sites that it led me to try chrome. I like it but it's not customizable enough for me (layout mostly). this was one of the sites timing out repeatedly with firefox.

I do not have many add ons etc. adblock and bit torrent webui and that is it.

Ok, now I'm a little scared, I've heard this before somewhere and i can't remember where, but I got this message as an error message when i started up my computer today :
"A duplicate name exists on the network"
and i clicked "Ok" and it started up normally......so what happened? does this mean I've been hacked or something? I'm more than a little scared and any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hello! So I've had this problem ever since I got this PC (3 or so years ago). Basically when playing online games, using Teamspeak, etc. I timeout after a short amount of time. Sometimes it's 30 seconds, other times I can stay on for about 20 minutes. Once I've timed out I can log straight back into whatever program I was trying to use, but then the timeout will just happen again.

This only happens when I use a wired ethernet connection, so I have been using wireless for the last few years to stop the problem, but I would like to use wired connection as it is faster. I did most of my troubleshooting like a year ago but I've tried about a million things including purchasing a new Network Interface Card which didn't work. Haven't yet tried using a new router/modem but that might be the next step if nothing here works.

Here are my PC specs;

i5 3570K, Gigabyte ga-z77x-d3h, 8GB 1600MHZ RAM, GTX 650 TI, Windows 10.

Any help is MUCH appreciated, if you need any more info about anything just ask. Thanks

I really can't figure out whats causing this, I have tried all kinds of things. My computer has alot of trouble staying connected to games or browsing. I am connected directly to my modem. I have tried disabling ipv6, netsh scripts, vista anti lag, swapping cables, nothing. Its the exact same problem and its unshakable.

My pings look like this. I can ping my computer with no timeouts. The request timeouts usually kick me from games or keep pages from loading.

A:Vista Ping Timeouts

The pings don't really tell you much since they only indicate that a response was not received for some, but not why. The web sites could very well be responsible.

What does the ISP say about it?

Hello there,

Leading from this post, its been a week and i have not gotten a single reply yet. And i've realised that my sister account had some problems with megaclick. It shows the megaclick page when the page does not load so i certainly hope that it is somthing to do with that.

Anyways the symptoms are frequent connection timeouts, download gets stuck, my MSN signs out by itselves, my online games disconnect etc. I have gotten this problem before but its due to malware but got it repaired. The symptoms got back and plus i just realised that my sister account's firefox has this MEGACLICK thing. I uninstalled MEGAUPLOAD previously already but the megaclick thing is still there.

I certainly hope there is someone who is going to help me this time. I do understand that the analysts are trying their best because there is a lot of logs to go through but no one has replyed for my post for more than a week. So i guess i'll load here.

Here is my DECKARD log from MY ACCOUNT. The log generated from my sisters account if it is needed as i'm not sure if theres any difference in the logs generated, i'll attach it along with the extra.

Sorry for the annoyance, Thanks very much.

EDIT: I cant seem to upload the EXTRA its at my old post. What can i do?

I'm looking for some help. I have Windows XP Pro with SP 2 and IE 6.0. I'm running with McAfee Security Center which has VirusScan version 8 with the latest DAT files (4415). The McAfee firewall is on and the Windows firewall is off. I've run Adaware and the Registry Mechanic.

But I still encounter problems when navigating to selected websites. For those problem websites, I get the timeout error: "The page can not be displayed". I have no trouble acessing that same page for my other coputer which uses the same DSL access. Everything also works fine for many other pages from this computer. But when I want to access one that has this timeout, it will fail every time from this computer.

Any ideas?
