Preferred Solution: hey, when i try to lunch an setup.exe file it's icon become blank and it wont work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have dictionary called the Unified Medical dictionary English-Arabic

anyway, i have the ISO file
i installed it on Win7 x32 with no problem

but i tried to install it on Winx64 but it says an error like "the setup file is not compatible with Win7 x64"

I tried to search for the x64 version but i had no success, google sometimes becomes lame u know....
I tried to just copy the already installed dictionary folders to Win7x64 but it didnt open cuz it seems that it needs to be installed

So is there any way to like edit that setup.exe file or something to work on x64 version cuz it seems if i can just bypass that step it will work

or like a work around the "copy whole folders" and get it to work
I really need some help with it,
thanks in advance,

A:Is there a work around if Win7 x32 setup file wont work on Win7 x64

sometimes 32 bit applications have 16 bit installer and that won 't work on 64 bit system, but if this is not the case did you try to run installer in compatibility mode? (right click/properties/compatibility). Installer generally does three things: creates program directory, copies some DLL files to system directory and writes some data into registry. You could trace those things in Win32 installation and try manually recreate this on 64bit machine, but who knows if it will work. Also search for portable version, those don't require installation and frankly now a days I don't use anything else but portable applications unless there is no other way.

Hi all,

Since many years we are using custom BMP files as icon for one of our programs. That has always worked correctly, until Windows 8 (and Windows Server 2012) came. When we create the shortcut on our desktop and we browse to the network location where the BMP
file is and we click ok, we see the icon correctly in the "preview", but as soon as I click OK twice and I go back to the desktop, the shortcut is white, with no icon.

But when I place the BMP file on the local drive and I browse to it, it displays correctly in the previewer AND on the desktop.
This behaviour occurs on both Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. Who knows how to resolve this?

i have just bought a totally new setup today, and ive plugged and mounted everything into the chassi.. but i dont get a video signal from it, when i plug in the screen into the pc it just goes from "check cable connection" to "no video input" and nothing happens.. all the fans from the cpu, chassi and grafic card are running, and all lighs and LED´s are working.. just no picture at all (and therefor not much i can do). ive tried using the sceen with another computer and it works fine.

since its brand new i havent even gotten to install windows on it yet so im 100% sure its something with the hardware/seetup offcourse..

after checking all the power cables i couldnt find anything wrong with what i had done.. so i took the motherboard out of the chassi to be sure it wasnt hitting it in any way.. i also tried with an old Geforce 9600 grafic card from my old pc to see if that would work, but it had the same result.

then i decided to try and set it up so i had minimal things connectet..
so now it have the powersupply plugged in, with power going into the motherboad in 2 places (24pin and 8pin) the cpu is mounted (and plugged into the motherboad in the correct place) the grafic card is set in place in the PCI x16_1 slot and have its two power sources plugged in (8pin and 4pin.. with the 4pin being a special 2 into 1 power plug for ekstra power) and i still get the same result..

i really need help to figuring out this problem please

OK! - Where do i start?

My limewire stopped working and wouldn't open. So i removed it and reinstalled it - still the same. I even wasted my money and brought PRO and obviously didnt make a difference.
I then figured it must be Java so i tried to uninstall that however even though it appeared to be uninstalled, everytime i would try to reinstall Java it would prompt me something like

''This Software has already been installed on your computer, would you like to continue to reinstall?'' - and when i select yes the box disappears!!
Also i had an blank icon on my control panel that i couldnt do anything with.
After 5 hours on the net trying to find out how to remove the icon I ended up removing it by downloading a app called 'Shell Object Editor'
I thought that must have resolved it however i continued to have the same message appear saying it was still installed however when i clicked 'yes' this time a message followed:

''This action is only valid for products that are currently installed''
By doing an advanced search, i was able to bring up all the files related to java including the hidden/non-indexed files and deleted them all however there were 3 files named 'Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0' that would delete??? Another message

The problem is , that suddenly , most of the system shortcuts ( IE, outlook , control panel , etc..) doesnt work , i just get msgs like this: "Cant find the file c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplorer.exe". The weird thing is that , for example i click my pc , then click the Folders icon, the folder tree opens at left..., then i click on internet explorer at bottom... and the IE windows activates and i can surf the web normally . Overall..the thing is that a lot of icons wont work ( some system icons , and even some external soft icons , like kazaa for example ) . Does anyone has any clue about whats going on ? thx a lot.

Funny thing when I view the iconat work it is the computer set up icon, at home it looks like a folder, when I right click it at home it says application (exe).

Any thoughts of why it wont load at home, some setting that is not up to date?

The screen on my new laptop has gone blank on starting up, it shows nothing, i tried a hard reset which didn't fix. The external monitor won't display anything.
It's a HP envy 15-j112tx running windows 8. With a hdmi connection i tried to connect to an external monitor. The monitor was previously using vga to a desktop, i unplugged that and connected my dvi cable to the dvi port. The monitor says check video connection then goes to sleep. I connected the cables with the laptop turned off and again with the laptop already on. The monitor still says check video connection. The connection is secure, it is a new cord. I pressed the F4 button to switch between screens and waited inbetween presses but still nothing.

It is still under warranty. I disabled the nvidia graphics card a few days ago to try n save on power usage, as it also has an intel graphics card. It has worked fine for a few days since i did that.
Now that i've powered it on/off about 5 times the hard drive stops whirring after about a minute, yet the power button light remains on. It no longer turns off when i hold power for even a minute. I dont want to kill the thing.

Can anyone help me, i can't find an answer in previous threads.

Hello guys,

I'm having a bit of a problem. Earlier tonight a couple of program icons started appearing as blank on my Windows 7 Pro PC. The programs in question were Word 07 and Powerpoint 07. I decided to try and fix them by rebuilding the icon cache but... unfortunately it just seems to have made things worse!

Now all of the Office programs have blank icons, as well as my anti-virus, Skype, Steam, WLM and a couple of others. Resetting and Rebuilding the Icon Cache keeps giving me the same results...

Does anyone know how to fix this?

A:Rebuild Icon Cache File - Certain programs now have blank/default icons. 8(

The original files or icons from which the icon cache is populated or the registry data pointing to them may have been damaged or somehow deleted. This is hard to sort out except by reinstalling the program.

Can you try reinstalling one of those programs to see if you can get it back as a test?

Office type programs might fix this by doing a "repair", but you may need the disk to complete it.

I have an HP G72 laptop running windows 7 home premium. yesterday when i was on the computer all of a sudden screen turned white and the only button that would work was power button. i held it down and shut off computer. when i turned it back on it goes through the usual boot process up to where i have to enter password for user profile. when i hit enter it will start showing my desktop icons like normal and then just go blank again. when i try to boot in safe mode it goes through the same process except when it starts displaying desktop icons it stops and automatically shuts back down and trys to boot up again in normal mode. if i try to restore it back to a restore point it says there are none available. Any input on what might be causing these problems will be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody.
I got dell latitude d800 laptop with dead display and without os (supposed to be XP, sticker is intact).
Hunting for affordable good shape lcd panel will take a while so I made unattended cd with nlite and installed XP but external monitor didn't fire up
I checked the installation with live CD and it looks like complete install so I got an idea that the install is lacking dell drivers particularly video driver (nvidia fx 5200 go card).
Even more: it's possibly lacking any video driver 'cause native display was disconnected.
So I have to somehow inject video driver and force setup to install it. Then XP must fire up external monitor and then I can update all the drivers.
I read about winnt.sif and $OEM$/Drivers directory but that all about "naked" drivers like .sys .cat .inf ... but the drivers I got from dell have also .dll .exe and other files but nvidia driver even has its own setup.exe.
How to make XP setup to install such drivers during unattended setup?

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.

Problem 1, is that something happened to the laptop and now nothing can be played, music wise, on the laptop because it says there is no device installed. Now I figured I could just use the recovery disk on it when I came up to visit but since he won it through his school all he got was the laptop and the packet with information in it and he didnt get any disks with it.

I've been working on this for quite some time, and I keep running into roadblocks. Any suggestions would be helpful. I will attempt to summarize all the things I have tried.

I am attempting to clean install XP Home to a (semi) new system. New mobo (PCChips P23G v3.0); new Intel Celeron D 3.2MHz processor; one new stick 512mb US Modular DDRII; new Seagate 250GB HD; -these are all upgrades to an existing case with existing 300W p/s; floppy; CD-ROM.
Problem: setup loads files as normal, then reboots. When it comes back up and the GUI phase is suppose to start, it goes to a blank screen and nothing else happens.
I have tried different memory, different (older) HD; I've tried making changes to the BIOS (new board that is suppose to be XP compatible, but tried it anyway. -onboard video, sound, etc. No extra cards installed. Very minimal system); I've tried setup by booting from the CD, booting from floppies, xcopying I386 to the harddrive; I've tried loading an old version of Windows 98! and then doing an "upgrade" (actually a new install is the only option- it is an OEM version of XP Home, not an upgrade).
I've searched MS but nothing comes close to solving this issue.
I've built systems before with XP pro (and older) and have never had anything close to the problems with this one. Any suggestions? Thank you.

A:XP setup goes blank screen

Not so sure about the whole "expert" thing, but I'll take a guess...

If the machine was originally shipped with Windows 7, it's possible the hardware on the machine does not have workable drivers on the (older) Windows XP installation disk.

If this is the case, you might be able to find WinXP drivers on the manfacturer's web-site, or you might find documentation online of drivers for your machine that are known to work under WinXP.

What kind of machine is this (make, model, etc...) ?

For some reason, my logon background image isnt showing up anymore, and when I try to change back to the way I had done it, regedit wont run, I've searched the forums for an answer, with no luck. And when I go to click grant admin full control, it brings up an open with menu, so I need a command script to grant admin to certain files again.

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Please help, and thanks. And no, I dont have any viruses or malware, I take good care of my computer.

A:Regedit wont run, and grant admin full control context menu wont work

Hello ElliottGenocide

Firstly do you have a system restore point available from before these problems occurred - System Restore
Can you remember what it was you changed in the registry.
Have a look through this,it has a copy of the default background and an application to change the logon background without having to touch the registry - Log On Screen - Change
I would also run this - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker see if that helps.

I have a Linksys 10/100 PCI card thats been purring like a kitten in my machine for months.

After changing a few BIOS settings my WIN98 setup went south and had trouble finding files and associations?! This wasn't a biggie because I was about to reinstall everything anyway.

So I reinstall everything, then follow the procedure I've used several times to reinstall my Linksys card. I load the correct drivers, but this time a message pops up in the System Properties of my LNE100TX Ethernet card it says:

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the file(odiload.vxd)that loads the drivers for this device(code 8)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I managed to find a copy of odiload.vxd on the net and put it in the Windows/System directory, but the same message pops up.(The file might be a bit old, not sure if this effects things or not).

Any help would be great, this ones got me completely foxed. Especially since the cards installed perfectly many times.

Is there any way to get the Windows 8 and Hotmail calendars to keep appointments and not shift them around when my computer changes its time zone?

I always eat lunch at 1 PM, it doesn't change when I fly to Ireland from Germany.
And when I make an appointment with someone in Israel at 6 PM in a week's time, I really do not want to calculate what the difference is to my current time zone so as to avoid having dinner at 4 PM or 8 PM depending on wether I was east or west of Jerusalem at the time of making the appointment.
Basically I want the calendar to work like a paper calendar. If I tell that I will do X at time Y, I want X to remain set for Y, not Y+Z with Z being the difference in hours between the two time zones, the one I will be in and the one I am in when making the appointment.
What should I do?

A:Lunch doesn't have a time zone. Neither have I.

Hi there
I tend to use a phone for appointments - but I think on a computer there is some software (paid) to do this
Godot & Co

I haven't tried this so I don't know if it's any good - the phone though does it all automatically.

The only problem is that the usual things that come to mind don't seem to apply here...

I have done the following:

- made the usual adjustments in the Power Settings
- have disabled items in Task Scheduling that start when idle
- have scanned the Event list, searched log files, etc.
- disabled Search related
- have sat and watched Task manager processes
- disabled screen savers
- performed all updates to windows and drivers
- used system restore to backup to a known working condition

What happens is that if I work on this computer all day, there are no problems. However, if I go away from the computer for approximately 20 minutes or so, when I return I have a computer that will allow me to move the cursor around, etc., but as soon as I click the desktop background, right click the taskbar, etc. we're done. The cursor spins, the mouse still moves, but the computer is completely unresponsive and the only recourse is to reboot...

The Event list always includes an item that says the following (different time/date):

The previous system shutdown at 7:11:24 PM on 3/11/2009 was unexpected.

even though the system still appears to be running. With regard to the previous shutdown, I've not been able to determine exactly what caused or invoked it, though it sure sounds like standby - even though it didn't actually standby...

I'd have contacted HP, but I know they just have you reinstall the OS and that's something I'm not interested in doing ever... Read more

We are all familiar with the concept ?there is no such thing as a free lunch?. There is always an agenda that involves us giving information up or doing something to earn the lunch.

Recently Kaspersky Lab announced their adding of a free antivirus to their portfolio, making them a member of the growing list of vendors that give away their security software, apparently for free.

We all know that there is no such thing as a free lunch, or security product, so what?s the catch?

I?ve taught my son that when you download an app that?s ?free? you need to understand how the company makes money ? maybe advertising, cross? and up?selling, in?app purchases ? and if you can?t see how then you are probably what they make money from. Of course, it may be by all the methods mentioned, the key is to understand what you are trading to use a free product.

There are numerous ways free products can potentially make money and, like me, you may have experienced ?some (or all)? of the examples below at some stage. All these methods are examples in use by free security products being offered for download at the time of writing.

A:What’s the cost of a free lunch?

There is nothing for free. Someone or somehow it's getting paid. Now the question is are you directly paying for it or the company benefits in some other way that doesn't really affect you.
