X1 Carbon 5th Gen: After full system reset, no Vantage updates or Windows updates found

Q: X1 Carbon 5th Gen: After full system reset, no Vantage updates or Windows updates found

Hi everyone, Yesterday I did a complete system restore (to factory state) of my X1 Carbon 5th Gen system. Following the restore, I use Vantage to search for Lenovo updates - and it only finds 3 optional updates, but ZERO critical updates. Then I run Windows Update and it also finds ZERO updates - says my system is up to date, even though the only updates it has installed are Malicious Software updates. It even keeps dropping the wifi connection, despite the wifi being perfectly stable. Have I completely destroyed this system? Below are screen shots of the Vantage window with the BIOS and product number. I've never had such an issue like this after a full system restore. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi -- with the current version of Lenovo Vantage, I seem to be having difficulty getting non-Windows System updates.  On the first screen/Quick Settings, System update spins as though it's doing something but does not finish.  On the next page (System Update), the "check for updates" button is grayed out and no installation history is available. I CAN click on "Lenovo System Update" on that second page and reach a much more detailed series of drivers, but it's not a user-friendly place to update. FYI, I have turned on auto-update for both critical updates and recommended updates within Lenovo Vantage.  I hope those updates are being installed automatically but cannot reach any install history screens to confirm that.   How can I fix this? Should I uninstall and reinstall Lenovo Vantage?  If so, how?  Thanks. KES2

Nov 6 - BIOS update 1.43 released, posted to web (can download at support website)Nov 7 - Email notification received regarding BIOS update 1.43Nov 8 - Vantage software executed, System Update says "no updates available" Do Vantage system updates typically lag behind web postings? Is this intentional, a side effect of the Vantage update process automation (or lack thereof), or is something broken? Not complaining either way, just would like to know. BTW my system's BIOS is still at 1.41.

A:System updates via Vantage - how far behind are they?

From what I have seen Vantage is usually 2-3 weeks behind  which to me is a good thing.  If an update is bad you dont want it to go out to everyone.

I personally prefer to use Lenovo Updates vs MS updates.  My understanding which may be wrong is that Lenovo has to release updates through MS but Vantage will eventually catch up?  I am wondering why I still show the below in Windows updates from 2/7/19?  Its been more than 2 months but I dont see anything in Vantage OR Lenovo website with the below drivers?  Does anyone even know what the below are for?

I'm working on a friends Inspiron 3646, and it's infested with malware and viruses to the point that it wasn't worth fighting and I thought I would just back up their data and recover the machine back to factory.
When I started, the computer was running Windows 10, the recovery partition apparently puts it back to Windows 8.1, which isn't a problem in and of itself, but I noticed that when asking Windows Updates to check for updates, it would just spin, forever.  I tried waiting 8+ hours.
After banging my head against this problem for a day or more and trying dozens of fixes, I assumed maybe my fixes made the problem worse, and tried another recovery, but nope.  Same problem.
So it looks like the copy of Windows 8.1 on the recovery partition doesn't want to play nice with Microsoft, and so here we are.  Things I've tried:

On my P1, I ran Vantage after a clean install of Windows 10. Ran "System UPdate".  Installed most of the stuff.  But the "Intel 9560 wireless lan driver" keeps showing up under "Critical updates" in spite of installing it.  It is like an infinite loop. Does anyone have a suggestion why it keeps showing up under "Critical updates"? What can I do to address it?

These are not working/detecting updates for my system. They report no packages/drivers found/available for my system. However, if I go to the support site and manually browse through the drivers list, I find a few that are recommended (and newer than what I have installed) and one urgent (newer than I have installed)The urgent one is Intel ME for version 11.8.55.3510 - I have 11.8.50.3460 installedThe recommended one is Diagnostics Lite for version 4.22.0 - I have 4.20.1 installed When I run the following command, I get; c:\drivers\win\me\meinfowin.exe Intel MEInfo Version: 11.8.50.3460 Any ideas why new drivers are not being detected? Vantage and Lenovo System Update both use the SU catalog. The SU catalog is updated with the new driver around 30 days after it shows up on the support page.Lenovo must quality test the driver and build .XML entries for the catalog. Thus your support page has the most current drivers.

Hey all ... here is a screenshot of the current state of affairs: Note: this is the Win 10 Pro 64-bit OS, Version 1803 ... Windows Update is ' ... up to date'. I have tried various Lenovo Vantage Critical / Recommended / Optional update selections (in their respective groups and / or alone) and re-booted every time following failed system updates ... I cannot seem to break whatever log jam is occurring here. I thought perhaps trying the IME 11.6 Firmware - 10 [64] - V.11.8.55.3510 update alone, or, the ThinkPad BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.2.26.1.18 update alone (they are both 'Reboot Required' updates) might get me past this issue, however, so far, no joy.  There is a 'Fully charged (100%)' battery installed in the system. Thanks for any insights offered, FFF P.S.  I would also be interested to find a Lenovo drivers list of older Synaptics Pointing Device (ThinkPad UltraNav / Touchpad) drivers for my P70 machine ... does such a historical driver resource exist?  The reason being, the more recent touchpad drivers are unsuitable for me ... too sensitive / 'sticky' (adjustment of various touchpad settings doesn't cure the usability issues) ... I much preferred the behaviours of the earlier drivers but can now only Roll Back to Driver Version: 19.3.4.202 (16-Jan-18) ... I'd much rather use the July 2017 driver version, whatever the version number was (possibly 19.3.4.112).

Dear TSG

I was running windows 8.1 back in January and it crashed during an update. After that, the system wouldn't start and just kept on going round in circles trying to fix itself. (See thread 'Solved: Can't fix windows 8.1, PC locked. Last post 28-2-2014.)

Under diagnostic tests at a local PC repair shop, a hard drive failure seemed to be the problem. Since it was under warranty, it went back to PC World who sent it back to Lenovo. I got it back in March but all they did was a system reset, putting it back on windows 8.

Everything is now working fine apart from one fact. It won't update. I just get the 'failure configuring updates, reverting changes' message. My metro tiles stopped working yesterday as well. I presume this is also an update issue. Under investigation it appears updates have never been installed. I came across a message saying the place where windows stores updates has been moved. How do I repair this, since the windows update troubleshooter doesn't help? I am fairly conversant in DOS, but it's been a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a Lenovo Ideacentre B340 running windows 8 with the following spec:

Intel Pentium CPU G645 @ 2.90GHz
DDR3 SDRAM
Lenovo Mahobay motherboard
440GB Hard Drive

I have enabled safemode startup on the F8 key and everything of importance is backed up.

Best Regards

Dave

The title pretty much says it all. I stopped receiving automated downloads of Windows 7 updates in Dec 2016 (even though my system is checked for receiving automated updates). I went to Windows Catalog and found updates released after Dec 2016, downloaded
them, and when I try to install, the infamous "searching for updates on this computer" pops up and does nothing. I can't even cancel it. I have to right-click on the program line at the bottom of the screen and exit it that way.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Think you have install automatic which both dedetcts (which can take up to hours) and installs .. you will find if you restart computer there will be 100 patches waiting.if your just looking to upgrade to Win 10, you can shortcut by using the windows win10 upgrade tool.I would recommend you to 'reset' the windows 10 install after upgrade as I have never seen a win7 upgrade without some issues. After refresh everything is fine.if your just looking for something to happen, set 'do not install automatic' setting on your windows pdate.

I've recently updated my Carbon X1 Third Generation from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The support web site says I should isntall the INtel Chipset Driver but when I try I get at error message c:\drivers\win\intelinf not found. Even if I browse to it, it still says it isn't found. The files size and checksum seem wrong. I think the fact the System Update keeps trying to install Intel Management Enginer 12.0 Software every day might be related to this. The Intel Management Engine Software appears to install without error using System Update but when you next open it, it says it needs to be installed again.

A:Windows 7 updates same for updates every time it checks for updates

See if you can System Restore to before Net Framework 4 was installed and then Hide it when it is again offered in Updates.

But be aware that some programs will need it and may not prompt you of this leaving you to guess why they are not installing or performing correctly. For this reason I always install it.

So you might want to reinstall it using its standalone installer since it may not have uninstalled correctly anyway.

I have injected the current 1/24/2020 SCCM driver pack into MDT, it installs fine. However we also deploy the Vantage for Enterprise tool, which when running updates adds the software "AMD Radeon Settings".  The SCCM pack installs a "AMD Radeon Settings Lite".  I realize that I can sort of fix this by installing the drivers and software from AMD, but that kind of defeats the purpose of MDT and the Vantage tool. I can tell Vantage to ignore that update too, but why is that update even being deployed if it just ends up saying "Radeon Settings and Drivers versions do not match. Please try again after updating to the lastest version(s)" What is the real fix for those of us in real deployment scenarios? Thanks,Bob

I have a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976. It was a great little laptop for a few years, then it became very slow. I had actually turned it off and put it away for a few months, because I didn't feel like messing with it.

Well, I got it out and ended up doing a factory reset on it. At a certain stage of the update process, the CPU would peg at 100% and stay there, and "looking for updates" would lock, forever looking. Well, looked around on the net, and it's a known issue. Downloaded a patch update for the update client, and it seemed to fix the issue. It found and downloaded about 160 more updates, and the CPU was no longer pegged at 100%. Great news, right? Wrong. As it is updating, it hangs up on about update 92, and nothing more happens. Just keeps "installing updates" stuck on 92 in perpetuity. I know, patience grasshopper, let it keep going. I did so for over 10 hours, still stuck on update #92. I have tried interrupting the updates, and am unable to do so. In fact, that was yesterday. Just now opened it to get the specs, and, still stuck on 92.

This is the second time I have tried to reset the computer. The first time I did a hard shut down, and when I turned the computer back on, the CPU was once again pegged at 100%, and wouldn't install the rest of the updates.

Here's the specs: Toshiba Satellite L455D, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, AMD Sempron SI-42 2.1 mhz, 2 GB RAM.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Device Make: ThinkPad P52,  Product Number: 20M9CTO1WW BIOS: N2CET39W 1.22 Performance changed after Lenovo Vantage updates (including BIOS and firmware updates). Out of the box, this did not happen. After updates, this consistently happens. Every boot the P52 starts 3 times before successfully showing the Lenovo splash screen and loading into Windows 10. By starting, I mean keyboard LED lights turn off, HD clicks off, indicators turn off. It looks and sounds like it is restarting from a power-on state. On the third start the P52 successfully splashes the Lenovo screen and loads Windows 10. P52 runs great. Lenovo Vantage diagnostics have never shown an error.  Resets happen at early boot time before the Lenovo splash screen so it is hard to believe it could be Windows 10 or drivers related as it happens too early in the process. Lenovo service has exchanged SSD. Tried with and without HD. No change. Any ideas?

I got a Lenovo Flex somewhere around 2/15 it was lightning fast. apps opened just as fast as I could click them and I jumped on the Windows 10 deal just as soon as I could. I loved windows 10 for the first two months but after a bad update that forced my computer into endless reboot loops for hours on end, I decided to go back to factory default settings and start over. The system would crash to blue screen constantly even if I wasn't doing anything. step away from the computer with nothing opened and come back and it had BSOD then tried to reboot and would land me in the BIOS settings menu. I researched online and found that it was most likely my graphics driver that was the cause of all this. but I couldn't get to safe mode to fix it. It eventually got so bad that it wouldn't even see the boot sector and I even tried to install Ubuntu Linux. That failed as well because once again, I couldn't see the boot sector or the hard drive which lead me to believe that it might be a hardware malfunction.
I was getting ready to ship it back on warranty when a friend told me to shutdown my machine and reboot while holding the 0 (zero) key. Hello, This functionality has never worked, even when new.  Lenovo Vantage tells me my S/N is invalid and then gives me a different BIOS value every time I run the program.  I suspect this is why the Update functionality doesn't detect anything new for my device (I can see newer drivers on the website).  Also, the auto-detect on the website does not work either.  The Automatic Driver Update scan fails (An error occurred while downloading packages.).  There's another place on the site that lets me try something, I forget where.  That didn't work either because it couldn't recognize my device. Is there anything I can do to get this functionality to work?  I don't want to factory reset the device just to try this, especially since it never worked before.  Worst case is that I'll manually apply the drivers--and there probably won't be any more new ones going forward--but that's annoying. Thanks

I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on an HP Envy m6 laptop. I went to check for updates due to the fact that this laptop originally had Windows 8.1. Windows updates just keeping Checking for updates with the green progress bar keeps turning and
turning. I had this problem awhile back and there is an issue with two KB files which are windows update agents but I did not write them down. Does anybody have that information?
Thanking you in advance,

There is a lot of Microsoft spy ware included in certain updates nobody wants on their computers and if performing a Dist-Upgrade will embed them without an option to remove them later, then we would rather do the installation without them; and choose what
we want to upgrade later.

For windows 10 users, I recommend blackbird www.getblackbird.net/ , (also works on windows 7) O&O Shutup 10 https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 , and Spybot-Anti-beacon   https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot-anti-beacon/
For windows 7, Ancile, Blackbird, Spybot Anti-Beacon

Also make sure your Persistent routes is clean under TCPIP parameters, I had 329 embedded entries the majority of which were pointing directly to Microsoft servers.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\PersistentRoutes]

Will an in-place dist upgrade of a Windows/OS with Updates included embed updates in such a way they cannot be uninstalled later?

This is a Toshiba satellite laptop with Windows 7. My niece who's 11 doesn't really know the ins and outs of using a computer and she never asks anyone when odd messages pop up so no one at her house has made sure her laptop has been running as it should, I checked it today and saw that Avast was turned off and also Windows Security services is off and I am unable to start it, I also could not restart WIndows Updates. I was able to update Avast and ran a quick scan and then a reboot scan which found several trojans which were deleted. I ran Malwarebytes which also found several malware items which I deleted,I even installed MSE as a post I read online suggested it could find the trojan that was disabling updates and security, There must be some hidden virus that is keeping the system fron operating properly at this point.

A:Found trojans, windows updates and security won't start...

I downloaded Hijack This and ran it but it won't post the log in notepad said someting about host file which I couldn't figure out how how to fix. When I look at the scan I notice that a lot of system32 files are missing. I'm assuming that has to do with when Avast deleted the trojans.

I keep getting Error message: Install Failure after Windows updates are downloaded and Windows attempts to install those updates.

The download is successfull, however, after Windows 7 attempts to install those updates I get this message:

Configuring Windows Update. Do Not Turn off computer.

After Windows attempts the installations of those updates, I get the following message: Failure configuring Service Pack. Reverting Changes. Error_install_failure (0x80070643).

I contacted Microsoft on the problem via emails....they went through a number of trouble shooting techniques....but after all of their recommendations, all they could tell me was to reinstall Windows 7.

I really would not like to do that. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

I have HP Pavilian dv6-3010 us Entertainment Notebook
Windows7, 64bit syatem, 8 gigabytes of Ram, 320Gig Hard Drive
Thanks

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:
6 GB RAM
AMD Athlon ll X4 750K
AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3
Vista SP2

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... This is an inconvenient delay, not anything serious. Running Windows 7, if it makes a difference.

Issue: Microsoft Security Essentials auto-updates block Microsoft Updates until MSE is finished.

Description: I have Microsoft Update (or Windows Update, whichever it's known as in 7) set to automatically check for updates but not download or install without my approval. I do this so I can review what's being updated, (I'm a little wary of Microsoft putting an anti-piracy app in as a "critical" update in the last year or two). Anyways, when I boot up the computer, it checks for updates and alerts me of them.

However, Microsoft Security Essentials also auto-checks for updates upon boot, and if it has an update it will automatically being downloading and installing it in the background. Which is all well and good, except whenever that's happening it causes MU to "fail" updates until it's done updating. Thus, I have to remember to wait until the MSE update is done, then run the MU update.

Question: MSE definition updates are included under "Optional" updates in MU, is there a way to make MSE stop updating independent of MU so I can queue all the updates together? I feel like this would be the easiest way to prevent this annoyance. I don't see an option, and I'd rather put up with this annoyance if the only solution is to put all updates back into Microsoft's hands completely.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates

My understanding of MSE is it will check several times during the to make it has the latest updates. Most GOOD VA programs will do this as there are several releases daily for AV definitions. This is the only way you and your machine will be aware of these releases.

When some of these attacks happen, a definition is released, but as the infection is refined, the the definition must also be refined and/or improved. I use F-Prot on my machines, but I install MSE on the kids and grand kids machines. I have seen as many as 12 releases in one day from F-Prot, this is what is call" being on top of things".

So I would not want to rely on ME being the one to check several times daily on all of my machines to see if a new release has been made.

I have never posted on a forum before so apologies if I am doing this wrong. The problem started when I tried to plug in my (new) iphone to my Dell pc. The device was not detected so I tried to update my itunes software - update failed and I received a Windows 7 error. After searching through multiple forums and trying to download windows utility cleaner, etc - nothing has helped. Also, if I try to run the 'Check for Updates" link on my computer - if NEVER stops searching for updates and there for I cant update anything. Not sure where to start

A:Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Suddenly Windows 7 has stopped installing Windows Updates. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from Tweeking.com. This failed to solve the problem. Does any one have any other possible advice to help solve this problem ?

A:Windows Updates will not install. Error code 800F0900 for all updates.

I would try running the System Update Readiness Tool:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 .
