Battery off, can't turn it on wothout losing files

Q: Battery off, can't turn it on wothout losing files

Help please!I have borrowed this laptop from my college's library and it is set uups that it deletes everything every time it turns down. When it runs out of battery, the screen turns black but the power, sound and wifi buttons are still lit. It seems like it does that in order to give you time before it totally turns down. The thing is that when I plug the charger I have to totally shot it down, keeping the power button pushed during 4 seconds and then turn it on again, so if you had something in progress but not saved, it's lostSo, this time I had a lot of progress unsaved and the computer run out of battery; but I was able to plug it immediately after the screen turned black. The buttons are still lit but I can't turn it on again without shutting it down completely and losing all my stuff.Any ideas, advice, suggestion...?Thank you!

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

A: Battery off, can't turn it on wothout losing files

You should be saving your work to either a USB flash drive for security or to a cloud-based storage service. Save your work to the flash drive before you turn off the notebookI Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive are perfect for Cloud based storage. USB flash drives are quite inexpensive. Pressing the power button for four seconds is a hard reset. That will definitely not allow the operating system or yourself time to save your work. I suggest that you return the notebook to your college's library so their IT staff can repair the OS and hardware.

I have lenovo ideapad g585gc 59-356202 e1-1200, dvdrw, 4gb, 500gb, radeon hd 7310m, 15.6" led, ....
Almost 2 years old.
Yesterday it didn't want to turn on, and then I took out the battery and try without it and then turned on and everything is ok.

1. with battery (with or without ac power) won't turn on
2. without battery (of course, with ac power) turn on

The problem is evidently in the battery. I want to buy a new one, but how can I be sure that the battery is really dead?

A:Lenovo won't turn on with battery, without battery turn on!

There are no good practical ways the average owner can test the battery. You have to go on the evidence.

I am losing about 7% charge a day on my x1 yoga.  Based on the advice of richk in another post on the TP25 forum I have already disabled Fast Startup.  On my TP25 that fixed the battery losing charge even when shutdown issue.  But on the X1 Yoga 3rd gen that is not fixing the problem.  I have looked at event viewer and dont see any issues.  Any other ideas?

I currently own yoga 710-14 with i5-6200U cpu. I managed to install windows 8 on this device. I installed battery bar application that shows battery usage. After few first charges it started showing that my battery quality is becoming worse. Now after 3 weeks it shows that I lost 25% of my battery max capacity. It's 39900mWh from factory 53000mWh. I charged it less than 20 times so it shouldn't die so fast. At this rate I will reach 0% capacity after 9 weeks.I charge it for about 4-6 hours, then disconnect, and use until battery reaches ~10%. Then I turn it off and charge until full. I never use it during charging, always on battery. However I am wondering if it is battery fault or it's just windows 8 incompatible with my battery meter?I installed some kind of lenovo battery tool to check if my battery was faulty (from faulty battery exchange campaign in the past) but it said there is no battery.I tried to generate windows report by powercfg /batteryreport but it didn't show any info.I mean it displayed:DESIGN CAPACITYmWhFULL CHARGE CAPACITYmWhCYCLE COUNT-without any values. However powercfg -energy gave me same info as battery bar and HWINFO programs. Current max capacity 39900 factory max capacity 53000.So what should I do? Could this be software related sensor malfunction? Should I switch back to windows 10 and it will fix itself?Or is battery faulty and I should return this computer to my store and get a refund?I don't want to bother with warranty reapairs becaus... I have Windows XP Pro, sp3.

I had a shortcut on the desktop that referenced "clipbrd, exe." Originally I went in to: C:\WINDOWS\system32 and made a shortcut of the file clipbrd.exe. Then I dragged the shortcut to the desktop. Yesterday I clicked that icon/shortcut and nothing happened. (I had used this shortcut many times.)

The file: clipbrd.exe was no longer in: C:\WINDOWS\system32. What happened to it?

I found clipbrd.exe in: C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$. It was blue, which I think means it's encrypted. (Somebody please tell me what being blue means.) I copied it to: C:\WINDOWS\system32 and it turned black and the shortcut worked again. Does anybody know what happened to the file?

Kinda the same thing happened with "Calculator." I went to Start>Programs>Accessories and made a shortcut of: Calculator and put the shortcut I made on the desktop. (I had used this shortcut many times.) Now, that's stopped working also. But the really strange thing is that Calculator is no longer on the Start Menu, at: Start>Programs>Accessories. What happened to it?

I don't know the name of the file that is Calculator. Does anybody know what happened to the Start>Programs>Accessories>Calculator shortcut and/or the name of .exe file that is Calculator?

Thank you,

Hp 250 g4 detects battery when ac charger is plugged in but it still won't turn on with battery when unplugged.

A:My hp 250 g4 won't turn on with the battery

Does the battery charge when the notebook is not turned on?That is the critical bit. If the battery does not have enough charge, it certainly won't be able to supply enough power to boot the notebook.  How long have you had the notebook? If it has been a year or more, the battery might no longer be serviceable.

Is this possible?

A:how to install a new OS without losing my files?

I would backup all your data before doing so unless you upgrade Windows XP to Media Center. I wouldn't recommend upgrading because you will inherit whatever problems you have now. Then once you're done installing windows MC you can copy all your data back. You will need to reinstall all of your software if you started a fresh install of Windows MC

It could be that the Charger can no longer handle chrging the battery and running the laptop at the same time. But how have you confirmed that the battery is good? Just because it is only 2 months old? Or has it been tested in another compatible laptop to confirm this. Also did you buy this battery from Sony or some where else?

So, I found this site that says YOU CAN and now my question is: HOW? In my properties in My Computer it says that my laptop is 64-bit capable. I bought a Windows 8.1 CD and I'm always getting this error that says it's for 64-bit and it looks like I have to upgrade my laptop to 64-bit. Can y'all help me because I really want to upgrade it into Windows 8.1?1?

A:How to install Windows 8.1 with CD and not losing files?

I understand from the title that you want to upgrade from Win 7 32-bit to Win8.1 64-bit. You can do this upgrade but you can't switch from 32 bit to 64bit (or vise versa) without doing a "clean" install which means you would need to reinstall everything (so backup all your files).

If you have the 64-bit disk you can use it, or you would download the "64 bit" version of Windows from here Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create and create an install CD or USB stick, then install and use the "Windows Key" you just bought for the 8.1 CD when you get the activation step.

It sounds like you have the "64 bit" disk and Windows is telling (warning) you that you can't do the upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Then just create the installation USB stick as described in the link above and boot off the USB stick. That will launch the Windows 8.1 installation process. I have not seen a recent computer that would not let you run either the 32 or 64 bit versions (but if your computer is real old, the CPU may not be designed to work with 64 bit. See this link for instructions on how to tell if your computer will run Windows 64 bit 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions - Windows Help).

Okay, so here's the deal.

I have been using the Windows 7 RC Build 7100.

Today I got a message saying my OS would expire in 14 days and that i needed to upgrade.

I know the only way to upgrade is to clean install.

I was wondering if there was any way for me to retain my files without backing up.

Possibly by partitioning my drive and installing on the blank partition? Then could i read my data/installs from the other partition?

I also have a 500 gig drive that i do not use.

I could use that as well.

Advanced Thanks,

A:Upgrade Win7 without losing files?

You've waited a little late in the game, but anyhow...What should I do if I'm running the Release Candidate (RC) version of Windows 7?If you want, you could potentially create another partition, and copy your data (documents, music, photos, etc.) to this new partition (you will have to reinstall all your programs, you can't save them as is). Then, after a clean install of whatever operating system you choose (you didn't say, so I can only assume that you will buy the full Windows 7), you can simply copy the files back. Just be careful during the clean installation to not mess with your new data partition.I personally would go with an external source of backup (external hard drive, etc.), but it is possible to do it with the same drive by just copying your data to a separate partition, then copying back after the install.Does that make sense?

Over the years, I have collected a series of programs that always are available in my Start, Run prompt. There are many and I sometimes have to scroll for them. An example would be: sfc / scannow, or %systemroot%, devices.msc, etc. I love having them there and never mean to delete them. I never write them down, so after they keep getting deleted by one or more of the many cleaning programs, I have to slowly rebuild my start run group of programs again!! My question is really two:

1) Every cleaning program that I use and there are many, I always uncheck any and all references to avoid deleting these programs from the Start-Run area or whatever the closest choice may be. I am ok for a while until I find a new cleaning utility that I thought I've instructed to leave those programs alone, and they somehow get removed by a command I missed to uncheck!! Is there a different wording or reference that I should be looking for that is called something else that is deleting my start -run files?

2) Since I never have written them down other than keeping them in the Run Prompt, Can you tell me where I can find the many practical utility programs that can be run from that prompt?
Like: sfc, winipcfg, device.msc, services.msc, and other practical utilities that are usually hard to run or find from their real source. This time I will make a directory and save these files, and better yet, find the cleaning command on whatever utility I have that keeps deleting thes... Read more
