and i want this order

I found lot of topic how disable/enable one of them, but not order
Any chance to change this :-D
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Welcome to Seven Forums Revex. You should be able to just drag and drop the favorites on the navigation pane.

Something that has been bugging the hell out of me, since Vista, is that the old XP file explorer was replaced with the new Libraries opening window. That's fine, but why the hell does Computer have to be all the way to the bottom.
Ya if I was a novice user I might be inclined to use those folders more frequently, but as an IT guru, this is nuts. If I download, move, or copy anything to an external hard drive, USB, or DVD, I always have scroll down the Navigation Pane. This is such a little thing that it's almost stupid that you can't slide these categories up and down. This way users can set their most used categories to the top. If you can move columns back and forth, it makes no sense that you cant do it for the nav pane.
I know I can make a shortcut pointing the file location to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} will allow me to create the Computer shortcut which can be use to pin to the taskbar. I've seen 3rd party software bring back the old XP explorer nav pane and I've also seen one that either adds or hides the Navigation Pane items.
It really is silly not to add something like this that is so simple to do for Microsoft. But does anyone know if there's any registry entry I can use, or some 3rd party software that does this for Windows 8?
Hi Bad,
Welcome to the "Eight Forums." . . .
Try this; close all the folders above "Computer" then open "Computer" then close Explorer (file manger). Now reopen and everything should be the way you want it. Did this several times to see if any would change and it didn't. This worked for me, albeit it doesn't mean it is the answer you are looking for. . .Good Luck.
Hope to see you around the Eight Forums again an IT guru is always a big plus and the Eights.
When I open Windows Explorer, on the left side navigation pane I have:
Favorites
Libraries
Homegroup
Computer
Network
Since I navigate to other drives much more often than I use Libraries, I'd like to put Computer at the top. However attempts to drag & drop to change positions produce no joy.
Is there a way I can remove then restore to change the order? Or maybe edit the Registry to shift the order? To me Homegroup should be way at the bottom and Computer should be at the top.
Anyone know the secret?
I'm pretty sure, you can't change that order.
You can hide some items though.
The easiest way would be to use 3rd party tool, such as this one: http://www.door2windows.com/windows-7-navigation-pane-customizer-show-hide-rename-items-in-windows-explorer-navigation-pane/
I want to change the icon order in windows explorer navigation pane. By default you have Library, Homegroup, Computer and Network, in that order (there is also favorites but I removed it and I don't remember now where it is placed exactly).
I want to change the order to: Computer, Library, Homegroup, Network.
The folowing image show it:
(Blue line: move Library down. Red line: place Computer where Library was)
In windows XP there was a program called TweakXP by Microsoft that allowed to do this but I couldn't find one for windows 8.
Is there a way to achieve this?
Thanks.
If you can find Favorites & replace it, you can put shortcuts to what you want in it by dragging & dropping them.(In the order you want them)
Read other 2 answersHow to change names of the folders in navigation pane in Windows 8.1 x64 under This PC category? I want to change the names which are shown in File Explorer, not actually change locations.
Just go to: C:\Users\Username
On the RHS, right click on the folder->RenameSign out and sign back in to take effect.
I don't know how I got this from the navigation pane that I was used to which had lots more folders which I did use to drag and drop files from the main window to either of these folders.
Is there a little arrow at the bottom right of the pane that you can click on?
That might restore your folders.

Is there a way to increase the size of the drive and/or folder icons in the navigation pane of Windows Explorer? It's easy to change the icon size in the folder pane or on the desktop, but these changes don't seem to affect the icons in the navigation pane of Explorer.
I'm running Windows7 x64 Home Premium. I have tried both Windows 7 Basic and Windows Classic themes and neither seems to allow this customization.
The system uses the 16 x 16 icons for the Explorer navigation pane.
Changing this is not an option.
Or the answer you wanted.
When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).
Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?
FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.
Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.
Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.
https://explorerplusplus.com/
It's portable and runs without installation.
Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++
So i recently changed my theme, and attempted to change the explorerframe, but failed. NOw, i have this strange problem where neither the navigation pane or the navigtion bar show up on various occasions. this is usually when:
1.) I am uploading something to the internet such as to imgur.com or attatching something to an email
2.) When I am navigating to a file inside of a program
Here's what it looks like: http://i.imgur.com/FwWiT.png
Notice the difference between the regular explorer and the messed up one. I can't navigate backwards in the messed up one.
Here's a picture of the program i used to change it in the first place (Windows 7 theme manager):
http://i.imgur.com/UCIzQ.png
Note: I already tried to fix it myself and managed to mess up my explorer and had to do a system restore. not pretty.
If you guys have any tips then they would be much appreciated!
Cheers, Yort
The Windows Theme Installer is most likely responsible for corrupting Explorer so I would get rid of it. It's isn't wise to install any third-party utilities which modify Windows' system files, at least not unless you have a complete system backup strategy in place such as a disk image.
System Restore cannot be relied on to get you out trouble because old restore points are automatically deleted when the maximum disk space assigned to SR is reached. So a more permanent system backup method is required, especially in cases where corruption is so bad that Windows won't even start.
Hello George,
It looks like he needs to uncheck the Show all folders option for the navigation pane.

Is it better for me to work under "libraries" or under "computer"?
I am trying to clean up a mess that was made by a computer repair guy. He did something which caused my files and folders to be relocated into incorrect areas - even some of my pictures are upside down.

Sorry that cannot be done that text & color & font are all tied together with the start menu & the text for folders & address bar. It's 1 color, font, text for all

How can I get all drives to show under Computer in the navigation pane. The only one showing is drive (COS? I put a check mark by show all empty drives, but that didn't work. I'm using the classic theme.

Hi
I accidentally delited desktop from navigation panel, I wonder how can I restore it, I realy need it.
Hello MrT, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You can right click on Favorites and click on restore Favorite links. If that does not restore it, then you can go to C:\Users\(username) and drag the Desktop folder into the Favorites area to copy it back there.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
I just did some navigation pane tidying by following tutorials.
I noticed in the screen shots how the various categories (Computer, Libraries etc.) seem nicely spaced while most, but not all, of mine are not spaced making them difficult to read when expanded.
I am unable to find a way of altering the spacing.
Any pointers appreciated.
Hello Peter,
Not sure since the screenshot is incomplete, but you might see if unchecking the "Show all folders" option if checked in the navigation pane settings may help.

Hi all,
Been reading the forums for a while now, and only just registered, so hello
I have had win7 installed for quite a while now and all seems ok'ish.
My problem is, that when ever I go to open or save files from various programs first noticed in Firefox, the navigation pane is empty and subsequently I can not change to the desired location.
I can not place the time/date it started so I don't know which (if any) restore point to use.
I can see the navigation pane in Windows Explorer but not from a program.
Any Ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hello to all good people of SevenForums.

Before:
After installing TU utilities:
Can you help me: -how to do that?
I tried with folder properties(show/hide empty drives), also hide items in navigation pane but no luck.
also i tried registry snap - but it was to plenty things for my understandings, also i tried Windows 7 navigation pane customizer - and it works until you don't load explorer again?
Please, What I must do(except uninstalling of TU off) to get my navigation pane without disk drives?
Mr. Shawn, Help me!
Thank You!
Hello sunnydays, and welcome to Eight Forums.
This sounds like you could turn on the hide empty drives option to not see them in the Computer window anymore until you insert a disc.

ok I'm OLD AND a Newbie...(worst combination ever) and my navigation layout is a mess. I have multiple Desktops, Documents, OneDrive, Downloads, ETC. located in random places. I need a SIMPLE organized
layout i.e.,
Favorites- (Desktop-Downloads-Recent Places, etc.?)
OneDrive- (Docs +
Google Drive- (Docs +
This PC- (Documents-Music-Photos-etc.?)
then:
Local Disk (C (Apps Windows System Settings Devices, etc?)
Elements (D
Homegroup
Network
Is a simple/similar layout to this possible? No Libraries please. I would appreciate advice and suggestions very much...
Hello Old Newbie, and welcome to Eight Forums.
The tutorial below can help show you how to remove Libraries from the navigation pane in File Explorer, but I'm not sure about the rest.
Libraries - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane in Windows 8 Explorer
Microsoft Word's Navigation pane theoretically has keyboard shortcuts associated with the right-click menu items available there, e.g.:Alt-E: Expand All
Alt-C: Collapse All
In particular, I'd like to know the shortcut sequence to collapse the heading levels displayed to 2. The sequence indicated is Alt-H,Alt-2.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to initiate these shortcuts within the context of the Navigation menu. For instance, when the Navigation pane is active and I use Alt-H, it still shifts focus to the Home tab (the "global" binding of Alt-H).
How can I use keyboard shortcuts to access the menu items in the Navigation pane?
Thanks,
Barry

Is there a way to backup the settings of navigation pane? paths, names, layout.. etc
I am having some problem, i get often when i want to save or open a file my explorer navigation plane does not appear at the window. Usually i scroll themwith button shortcuts.
like this (explorer fine, but for open/save navigation pane vanishes)
i think i screwed something after i customize the windows theme.
Some programs use the new (Vista) dialogs, which have the navigation pane. Some use the old (XP) dialogs, which don't have it. Can you post a screenshot of the problem so we can determine if that's the case?

Hi all!
I've used some registry hacks to customise my Navigation pane so that is has only the following entries:
- favorites
- computer
- network
"Show all folders" is ticked off. Now I don't know what might have cause this and I'm not sure when it happened, but now the entries look like this:
- favorites
- user's home folder
- computer
- network
How can I make the user folder disappear?
Thanks!

I'm trying to make it so that Navigation pane would be disabled whenever I open folder shortcuts, such as music, documents, pictures, but I want to keep it enabled when I got to My computer or Windows explorer. However it seems that its either enabled or disabled for all folders. Any way to fix that?
Also, is there anyway to make windows remember each folders individual settings? It seems whenever I open a folder, and resize it, any other folder will open exactly the same size as the previous open folder. I believe even Windows XP had an option to remember folder settings.

This excelent feature we had in XP, was taken out of 7.
In point of fact, the more one uses Windows Explorer the more I hate it.
So far no fix but there are a couple of apps out there that will lock size and position of any window when its re opened.
The best is Zmover .
I got this problem when I was installing a new theme pack by changing the .dll files in the system root. See the picture for more details:

Help!
My son has used Windows 7 customisation tool UX Style Core (Beta) to customise our PC. Whatever he did has changed the background colour of the Explorer Navigation Pane to black, making it unreadable. I can't correct it. Does anyone have any idea what to do to fix?
Hello Richard,
If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to undo it.
Using MS Word 2010. I have "navigation pane" unchecked in "View," but sometimes when I open Word, the navigation pane is there and "navigation pane" is re-checked. How do I permanently uncheck it and prevent its appearance? Thanks.
Un-checking the option in the View tab should do the job.
Perhaps a 'Repair' will fix it:

Hi
I have a weird problem with navigation pane. In most of programs the navigation pane is empty (see attached screenshot). It is kind of annoying, every time i have to click on a folder content and then "backup" to where I want to go. Does anyone have this problem or know a solution? Please help.
Best regards.
I believe that's what it's called, in Windows Explorer there's a load of Shortcuts on the left, how can I edit them, I'd like to remove unneeded things as well.
Also can you modify the shortcuts in the download pane? It has I believe 5 shortcuts on the left which I'd like to customise. In Xp I just used TweakUI to do that, but I don't know anything about Windows 7.
Make a screenshot of it. And show which ones you want to change.
Do you mean folder %userprofile%\links ?
I sent this screenshot to a client, then realized it might be helpful for goo-ee customizers who are members here at sevenforums.
thumbs up on that one, I use to have too many programs installed to simple things a little searching in Windows could solve for me!

First, thank-you for taking the time to look over my question.
I just loaded Windows XP Home, SP3 and I'm working on getting it configured to how it was before. I have spent over an hour trying to figure out how to disable or hide the left side navigation pane, which is present when I open the folders. I just can not recall how I solved this before.
I have gone into Folder Options and I do have it selected to "Classic View," which did not help. I have googled it, as well as did a search on this site, but there are just too many pages to read through them all, and I was hoping I could find out here.
I am fine with working within the registry, so if there's a hack, that would be fine. However, I'm guessing it's something much easier.
Again, thanks for the time.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Where it says Target: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe add a /n
So it's %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n

Hi, BatBytes, and welcome to the forums.
Just to be sure I am not getting confused, can you detail what you mean?
Can anyone teach me how to stop the folder automatic fold-up in the Navigation Pane in Windows Explorer? I would like to leave the folders open that I open just like all the other previous Windows versions have done.
I sure hope there is a way to stop it. I have tried for a long time to get used to it but it just isn't my cup of tea!
Thank You in Advance for whatever information you can give.
Doesn't look like anyone has the answer to stopping that obnotious automatic fold up

I got a problem with the sidebar in windows explorer. Sometimes when i open it the only things that shows is the favorites, libraries and homegroup titles but non of the folders or links that are supposed to be there.
It stays like that for a while and then its back to normal (but only if/when i open a new explorer window). Im able to access e.g. the libraries when its like this but it looks like its searching for them but cant find them.
Help is very much appriciated
Thanks

It can take a while to load everything on various machines, depending on hardware and configuration.
If you don't want it to load all folders, ( which takes time);
Navigation Pane - Automatically expand to current folder[2]=File%20Folder%20Settings
there are other tutorials there on this and similar matters.
By the way, that window is known as the "Explorer Navigation Pane", "Sidebar" refers to something else.

Take a look at this tutorial:
Navigation Pane - Turn On or Off
Try Icon Cache - Rebuild to see if that will correct the problem.

The Navigation Pane in explorer is rather cluttered. I want to remove the "Libraries," "Homegroup," and "Network" entries, but I am not sure how. Preferably without registry editing, but its okay if thats what it entails.
What is your reason for wanting them gone? Each has a unique set of uses. The "Libraries" is an excellent tool for viewing and organizing pictures and music files.
Have you attempted to remove them?

In Windows Explorer in the Desktop mode, there is a navigation pane on the left hand side. At the top, there is a spot for your favorite folders, so you can navigate directly to them easily. Below that are other sections, like "Homegroup" and "This PC." Whenever you open Windows Explorer, it automatically focuses on This PC in the navigation pane by default. Does anyone know of any way to get it to focus on Favorites by default, rather than This PC, without having to create a shortcut? I'd like it to do that even if I press Windows Key+E
