Q: V110-15IKB Laptop: WLAN works for about 1 minute after booting, then does not work anymore in Linux

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've noticed a strange phenomenon with my Lenovo V110-15IKB after I put in another 4 GB into the only slot available:Though the BIOS recognizes the full 8GB, macOS 10.12 (and also 10.13/High Sierra) does not and does not start at all. But when I start Linux or Windows both seem to accept both.To have startup macOS I have to manually register the RAM in Clovers Config.plist. Another strange effect is with Memtest86:The utility only sees the soldered 4GB but not the new module, though it obviously recognizes the full 8192MB.What's wrong?

Hi.I am looking for a caddy to replace the DVD drive of my V110. Are there any recommendations or things to watch out?I'd like to replace it with a SSD so that I can install OSX on the SSD and Win10 or Linux on the HDD. Once I bought such a caddy for my old Lenovo G560 but it froze right with BIOS startup.

A:Which caddy (HDD/SSD/DVD) for Lenovo V110-15IKB

I saw a smilar problem in Lenovo Z510. In order to solve the problem, caddy was removed and BIOS was restored to factory settings. After these changes, caddy with HDD could be installed again. AFAIK, there's no official caddy for your laptop. In Poland we have caddys from Zeta, which are quite good. I can't say what caddys are available in your country.

I have done what is suggested on these pages:

Checked the devise driver
Checked settings
Downloaded driver for EasyCam from site for my laptop
Added an extra key to the register EnableFrameServerMode =0x0

Nothing works.

But starting Lenovo settings, it asked me to update it. Twice I've done that and it asks again to download updates.

What gives?

Lenovo V110-15IKB Model 80TH with Windows 10 Home.Lenovo Vantage Program indicated urgent Bios update. Automatic Upgrade failed, I tried over 5 days again and again. Then I downloaded Bios update from Lenovo update page manually. Update failed again. Then I checked the files and detected wrong command in batch file. C:\2TCN32WW\install.bat must be edited to just contain this line only:start "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" call winflash.batAfter changing the the wrong line to the proper one, the installation worked perfectly. Regards, Chris

A week ago, I bought Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM (CT8G4SFS824A & single ranked) as Crucial System Scanner suggested it is compatible with my brand new Lenovo V110-15IKB. Its OS is Windows 10. I have inserted this ram part into my laptop and it works well. 12GB appears under Device specifications at About (its 4GB is non-removable). However, when I shut it down and next day, it won't boot. Just black screen, CapsLk light is on (normally it turns off before Lenovo logo appears) and not responding. I have removed ram part and laptop booted with original 4GB ram. I reinserted 8GB part back and it booted.  But it's still same, it won't boot second time unless 8GB part is removed and reinserted. I've looked for solutions across the internet but none worked (most of them are for home-built PCs) including safe mode resetting (supposed there to be troubleshooting but this laptop didn't have done troubleshooting after resetting and yet it won't boot second time). Also, I got BIOS/UEFI driver upgrade from Lenovo but it's still same. Though I have no idea how to use UEFI. Sorry, I'm not much technological person. I'm baffled with this. I haven't seen similar problem as this. Why does laptop refuse to boot second time with 8GB installed? Is this 8GB ram defective? Should I use other 8GB part (dual ranked one)? What about 2666 one? I don't want to open my laptop repeatably as it would wear ram slot out. Any solutions? Thank you. By the way, I have po... Read more

Out of no where my computer apparently died. I haven't updated or downloaded anything for it to do this. And I'm pretty good on computers.

Anyways I tried inputting the cd because it was giving me this error:

The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

But when I tried loading the cd, it kept going back to the boot manager and not even loading windows from the cd to fix it.

Windows boot manager:

Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt.

Ideas or options?

A:Windows isn't booting up anymore & CD won't work

Hi Johnny. Not sure if the CD you mention is your original Windows 7 installation or a system recovery cd you made. Regardless, the BOOT ORDER must be set to boot from the CD Drive first to read/boot from the CD. Generally you can change the boot order by entering BIOS. Give that a try and report back.

Hi, I was on here about a month ago and got some excellent help from one of you fine people on this site.

So after I clicked to "restart my computer after an adobe reader update", the next time I turned it on, the computer completely froze after a few minutes of booting up... After a few times of this occuring, I opened tasked manager to see what was going on and I noticed regsvr32.exe and regedit.exe appear in the process list JUST before the computer freezes...

I am unable to do any of the scans listed in the "read me" thread because of how it freezes so quickly... I will attempt to do them in safe mode (as I am able to get into safe mode without the freezing) and post them in this post, but I just wanted to get this thread up as soon as possible in hopes of a quicker reply.

I am not totally convinced it is malware, considering adobe reader updated may not have updated properly? Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to look at this and hopefully someone will be able to help me out!

Sorry about the double post (tried to edit first post but could not find the edit option!)

Anyhow I was able to complete both the DDS and GMER scan in SAFE MODE. I forgot to mention in my first post that I do have access to an install disc... CPU still freezing after few minutes of boot... I know doing all the scans in safe mode does not let you see all the processes running that could be causing this to happen, so hope... Read more

I have windows 7 home premium dual booting with Linux Mint 8, on a Dell XPS M1530.

When I shut down linux mint and go back into windows I have the following problem.

Upon the windows 7 desktop appearing, I am able to type or use the keyboard as usual-until I touch the touchpad on my laptop. After I touch the touchpad, (even for just the slightest second!) I am unable to type anything. For example, if I launch the start menu and then try to type to find a file nothing will happen. The only way for me to get by this is to reboot the computer again. So essentially I have to reboot twice in order to get a working keyboard with Windows after being in linux.

This problem does not happen if I stay in Windows and reboot windows repeatedly. (I tested it by reinstalling windows and having it as the only OS for about a week.)
I tried the following workarounds: using the Dell support software to disable the touchpad when a mouse is present.

I tried reinstalling the touchpad driver.

Nothing has worked. Alps electric is the touchpad manufacturer.

I asked this question on the ubuntu forums and got back the answer that windows doesn't like the other OS on there and upon reboot gets confused or sees things are in a different state. I was also told that Windows uses a HID device for the keyboard and Linux does not.
Very annoying problem and I doubt there is a fix for it, but please help if you can.

I have a 20? gateway 900G monitor. It was working fine for the 3 years I have had it. Then randomly today I restarted my computer and it wouldn?t work. I boot in safe mode and it works fine. Just when I get past the windows loading screen it then tells me that I have no signal. This happens in both XP and Vista. Linux runs fine still. The computer tells me it cannot find a monitor plugged in at all. The video card I have is a two DVI port X1650 pro. I used a DVI to VGA converter and connected a second VGA monitor to the second port and Windows boots just fine in that monitor but the other one once again went blank past the boot screen. I have no idea why my monitor won?t work. My computer is a 3.4 GHZ Pentium 4 with 3 gigs of ram.

I went to a LAN party so I unplugged all my cables from the pc. When arriving at the lan party I plugged everything back in and booted into Vista Ultimate.
Everything was detected properly and I encountered no problems.
But when I got home again I wanted to boot into Windows XP Pro and that's where the problems started.

My USB Keyboard and USB mouse would not light up when I was in XP. The Install New hardware window popped up asking me to install "new" devices: "composite usb device".
You might understand that it's impossible to proceed this installation when you cannot use your mouse and keyboard.

Unfortunatly I do not have a PS/2 mouse or keyboard around.

How do I get my mouse and keyboard working again? (booting into "LAST KNOWN WORKING CONFIGURATION" does not work) and everything has been working fine for more than a year now, untill I unplugged them and probably plugged them into a different usb port (btw all my ports are 2.0).

Due to some unrecognized problem, windows 8 became highly unresponsive as it made the screen unstable as soon as it booted. Due to which i had to delete windows 8 from my system. But i made a mistake of formatting the drive windows 8 was in without uninstalling ubuntu from my system. Since then it didnt boot any other system other than the original windows. If i try installing any OS to my system, just as the installation is about to start the laptop shuts down..I am incapable to load any other OS..I have tried various versions of linux based systems.

I have re-installed windows 7 on my system; making all new partitions. Now many errors that used to occur before in my system are resolved but this problem of the OS installation remains.

Any help on the matter is most welcome..Since I am a linux user..I'd like my system to be responsive to it asap..Any ideas on how windows 8 might have effected my system boot is also welcome.

Hi guys,

I have a problem and I've tried to figure it out for the whole day now.

It's mind-boggling and SUPER frustrating at the same time.

Basically I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro to my computer and when I plug both DVI cables into the GTX 750Ti (I run Dual monitors) it goes to the 'Windows 8 Blue logo start up but then suddenly my monitors have no signal (and my mouse turns off, aka it looks like my USB shutsdown) but my mobo is still on + cpu fans/case fans, etc.

So I tried using the IGPU and it works fine, you can plug one DVI into the IGPU DVI out, and one monitor DVI to the GTX750Ti and it will boot into windows fine.

The biggest thing that boggles me is that upon a fresh install it worked fine, AND I can reinstall windows fine again, but it *SEEMS* like after I install the NVIDIA graphics card drivers it starts happening again and I can only use IGPU to boot into windows. Now, when I first installed windows it was working fine, till I shut it down and it won't boot again hence having to try IGPU. I tried formatting, I've tried everything!

All my parts are brand new, I've tried everything there is to try, and googled alot (I've enabled/disabled secureboot multiple times, I've done 'primary display adapter 'PCI-E' and switched between them), I've tried almost everything!

My specs are as follows:

I'm having a similar problem to Chris Chu - http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/888744-need-help-have-wireless-but.html

I just upgraded from Qwest DSL 1.5 Mbps with an Actiontec GT701 modem to the 12Mbps service with the Actiontec Q1000 modem, set up with just the default options.

I'm having a very peculiar problem. I can see the Q1000's GUI control panel (192.168.0.1) and browse the Internet from a computer connected via wi-fi. However, a computer connected viaEthernet doesn't see the web or even the Q1000 control center. A ping from the Ethernet-connected machine times out. However, the Ethernet-connected machine CAN see the other machines connected to the Q1000 - I played an MP3 file from one of the other machines. So the router function for the LAN is working, but the Q1000 doesn't respond to a ping or let me see the external 'Net or even browse to the Q1000's GUI panel.

I've tried this with just one machine connected directly via Cat5 and none of the other Ethernet ports on the Q1000 used. I've done that from two different PCs, using 4 different Cat5 cables, and trying different ports on the Q1000. I've also tried it going through a D-Link switch with the same results from 4 different PCs.
All of these connections worked with the GT701 and the 1.5 Mbps service, but not with the Q1000. We even tried replacing the Q1000 with the same results. (Firmware versions were QAQ01-31.00L.34 on the first Q1000 and QAQ01-31.00L.33 ... Read more

Hello everybody! As my post says my Yoga is not connecting to the internet upon startup, and after long periods of sleep. It does connect to the network immediately and will say 'No internet, secured', and will stay this way for a minute or more, or I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to the network. Troubleshooting problems from the context menu gives up before even trying. The strange thing is if I sleep my computer for around ten minutes it reconnects immediately, if it's a few hours or over night the problem occurs. I just cannot figure out what is causing this. Everything is completely up to date including the BIOS version and Windows 10.I've checked for the latest drivers on Lenovo's website, and I've looked for more up to date Atheros Wireless drivers. Hello all, I'm very new to the board so I hope I placed this topic in the right forum:

For some reason, I cannot connect to the internet anymore on my hp laptop. It stopped working about a few months ago, but I have other computers in the house, so I just ignored it for a while, hoping that it will just fix itself (wishful thinking, lol). Every time I try to open up an internet browser, the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" is the only thing that shows up. What's even more strange is that there are 3 other laptops in my house (all running off of a wireless internet router), but they all connect to the internet just fine....I've tired rebooting the laptop, restarting the internet, etc. I'm not a computer genius so it could be a number of issues. I don't know what's going on...

Some additional info:

-My laptop is a Microsoft XP [Version 5.1.2600] Home Edition, HP Pavillion dv8000
-My computer has been currently set to automatically add updates
-I recently updated my iTunes about two months ago (and I can't place my purchased songs on my iPod because I can't connect to the iTunes store (which requires internet connection))
-This is the only laptop that uses a Belkin N1 Wireless Notebook Card
-I got rid of a virus off the computer last December, but it did not affect my internet connection (it still was working at the time)

I formatted C and attempted to reinstall Windows 7 but it is unable to detect the HDD. I accept terms of license and move on to the point of choosing disks but nothing shows up. (There is an option to choose drivers. Where do I locate them? The HP website isn't helpful and I can't even find my product let aside the drivers)

I have already tried :
1. Partitioning an NTFS file system in Debian. Doesnt show.
2. Deleting a partition in Debian and attempt to see the free space in W7 Installer. Didn't work.
3. Try to do the BIOS setting thing (Change SATA option from AHCI to compatible or something). I could find no such setting in BIOS. The BIOS was severely limited with only option of switching on fan.

What do I do ?
The chipset is Intel HM55 if that helps and harddrive is SATA 5400 rpm 500GB.

A:W7 installer doesn't detect SATA after Linux, Linux works smoothly

All Linux code must be deleted using the CLEAN ALL command. As you have had linux on the HD you need do a Clean all & full format.

Do a full clean & full format in command prompt.
1) Boot DVD & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
DISKPART : At PC Startup
2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup
(for command prompt)

Type in command line
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (win HD)
CLEAN ALL
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT fs=NTFS
ASSIGN
EXIT
EXIT

I'm running Windows 8.1 64bits.

I have noticed since a couple of days ago that my Control+Tab shortcut does not work anymore. Not on text editors, not on web browsers, not on property pages, nowhere.

Control+Shift+Tab (reverse tab navigation) still works.

I have checked the results on an application called "Ethervane ActiveHotkeys". In there, it states that Control+Shift+Tab is not an active hotkey but that Control+Tab IS. I assume that some application decided to globally pick up Control+Tab for itself.

I have tried restarting (and testing as quickly as possible before all programs load), I have tried closing down all applications that the task manager will let me and still the shortcut does not work.

I tried going to msconfig and disabling all programs and non-Microsoft services with no luck, but if I start Windows 8 in Safe Mode then Control+Tab works again.

I tried running Hotkey Commander; it shows Control+Tab as being bound by some application, but does not show which application it is. If I delete/disable the hotkey binding from inside Hotkey Commander then it works again until I restart.

I'm stumped as to how to troubleshoot this further and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Control+Tab does not work anywhere anymore (Control+Shift+Tab still works)

I'm having the same problem as of today, and basically mirrored your findings.  The only thing I can think of that changed in the last 24 hours was the nVidia drivers and Geforce experience..

Hello,
I just bought an external screen to plug on my laptop Inspiron 9400.
This new screen works but the one included with my laptop doesn't work anymore. It is still possible to change the luminosity with Fn+top or fn+bottom but nothing display even during the boot. Fn+F8 (CRT/LCD) just stop and start the external screen. I can't boot or use the special Windows mode because I don't see any information on the laptop screen.
Can you help me please?
Thank you!

I used to have a laptop connected with wireless (netgear WG511) through a router (D-link) to my main computer with the internet.

Yesterday I got a new laptop, upgrading from an IBM r40 to an r52, and was wondering how to get the wireless network working again. The r52 appears to have a wireless card built in, and can find networks, as it can find my neighbours one (but cant connect)

I tried installing the Netgear external wireless card, but that didnt do anything except make a new network connection, which also didnt work.

If there is any other information thats needed, please let me know cos I really dont have much idea at all...

Both computers run Windows XP

Cheers
