HP Pavilion Bios UPdate

Q: HP Pavilion Bios UPdate

I got a big problem. A friend asked me to update his OS on a HP Pavilion 900MHZ desktop. So i did. He also asked to upgrade his memory from from 256mb to 512mb. So i tried. He has the 168pin Sdram DIMM. One stick worked fine. But when I put in the second stick it errors. "bios not acpi compliant"

So i looked up the error. First i found that i can just turn off the acpi in cmos and it will work. No option in cmos. Then I found to redo the install and at the setup screen hit F7 instead of F6. Did not work. Blue screen during install. Also found that i need to update the bios. Went to HP site. NOthing there. Went to motherboard site. Its an asus k7m board. Got the updated bios. Got the flash program. No luck. Says bios/chipset not found. CAnnot flash the bios. Thing is i am stuck. Got the memory from a local computer shop. He had to special order it since its so old. He will not take it back. $70. I need to flash this bios.

Anybody know where i can find a flash that will upgrade the bios or a website to help me with this?

The memory stick is good. I can put either one in and it works fine, just not both. Very frustrated.

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What model Pavillion is it? Many times though you have an asus mobo the Bios has been customized for HP to work with it. And the motherboard may also not be a standard asus K7m motherboard, being a custom setup for HP.

I purchased this laptop in December with Windows 10 installed. A few weeks ago I started getting a notification in Support Assistant to update the system BIOS.  No matter how many times I run the update the notification persists and the Action Log has never recorded this update as having taken place. After checking with this Forum, it appears that other users have had issues with BIOS updates, and HP Support cautions against updating the System BIOS unless there is a compelling reason to do so. 1. Since I am not having any issues which would compell such an update, should I simply dismiss the notification? 2. If such an update is not advised, why does Support Assistant display its notification? 3. Would dismissing the notification render this Notebook suseptible to security vulnerabilities? 4. The instructions on the HP website for updating theSystem BIOS are considerably more complicated than the procedure launched from Support Assistant. What exactly is this?  The update in Support Assistant is Softpac number SP76353, Version F.19Ap1, Size 8.89MB.

Hi @LAB7, Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have some questions about updating the BIOS. I agreed that if there is no problem with current system running, it is not necessary to update the BIOS. However, HP support assistant will populate the notification once there is a newer version of the BIOS. You can dismiss the message and it will not cause security problems. There is another way to update the BIOS, by downloading it from HP support page. You can put your product number here on this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Select the right OS on the page, it will show the most updated drivers of your model including the BIOS. Hope these could help. Let me know if you need further assistance. If this post helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos. Regards,

The other day my HP Pavilion X2 (2 in 1) started to perform a BIOS update. The update went through all it's paces and gave me a message, something like don't turn off your computer or hit the power button after restart, even if screen goes blank. Needless to say after ~ 30 minutes the computer did not start up (nothing). I had a full battery while I was using the computer and during the update. Now I can't turn on the computer, nothing on the computer screen (Blank).I've tried to hold the Microsoft & B keys and push the power button for 1-3 seconds while still holding the Microsoft & B keys (NOTHING). There does not appear to be any power going to the unit even when I plug in the HP Power supply (NO LED light) which should not be an issue since the power supply was not hooked up during the update? I've even tried to perform a HARD Restart (Power Button and ESC) with NO luck. I've never had any issue with a computer before in my life. I can understand if I would have dropped it or downloaded a virus but It was an HP assistant update. Right now I have an HP BRICK sitting on my countertop. I tried calling the help line but the folks overseas were focused on the power supply and just wanted to send me a new power supply. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark

PC came from Amazon Warehouse Deals with BIOS 04 and Win10 installed (original was 8.1).Last BIOS ver. is 11revA and the little thing had some issues between trackpad and USB peripherals, so I tried to update from 04 to 11 (sp72717).It chocked at 98%.I created a USB thumb on another PC, by means of the same app that bricked my BIOS.The Win+V (or Win+B) trick didn't work.  It keeps saying "The selected boot device failed" and/or "HP BIOS corrupted err.501". The PC has not an hidden recovery partition (I guess that has gone when it was updated to Windows10). Battery isn't user serviceable, any form of deep reset to reflash the Insyde BIOS require removing the battery, discharging the MB and working only on the power brick's juice. So that's a no go, i presume. It seems there's not a way to force a reload of the failed update. I can still load boot, system menus. But BIOS didn't finish updating

I have an HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 that would not boot if plugged in after a normal shut down.  If it was not plugged into power, it would boot just fine.   After troubleshooting on these forums, the next suggested thing to do was flash the bios.  So...I downloaded the bios and went through the normal on-screen prompts and flashed/updated the bios.   Now, it will not start at all.  When I turn the power on, it never even gets to the pre-boot and bios.  I found where there is an emergency bios recovery by powering off the notebook.  Then press the "Windows" and "B" keys at the same time and then turn hit the power button for three seconds.  Well...No love.  Another post said for newer notebooks, to use the "Windows" and "V" key instead...Still no love. Are there specific buttons to do the bios recovery?  Or, another method for HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 notebooks? Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Can't locate any BIOS updates, nor any driver updates, from HP's site - not that I don't get my driver updates from elsewhere. Updating the BIOS is my last hopeful act before scrapping this motherboard, since the old BIOS doesn't support my new graphics card (Asus GeForce GTX 750 Ti, no extra power requirement, although I did buy a 600-watt PSU to replace the junkware 300-watt PSU that came with the PC). I am aware the latest update almost certainly won't fix the problem, but I've got nothing to lose at this point. I'd gladly swap the card to an MSI model which, according to the Internet, works with older BIOS versions, but my retailer won't refund products if they have been installed once (even if they don't work). When connected, the PC beeps thrice - once every 20 seconds or so - and gets stuck on a black screen with a flashing cursor. You can probably see how this is a problem. The specifications of my PC seem to be the same as these, with the exception of a different product number and the upgraded PSU (and no, that page lists no updates, either):http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5151865&calledBy=&docId=emr_na-c03068621...And, as you can probably guess, the BIOS has never been updated before, meaning it's v7.13. If no update is available, makes it worse by bricking my sweet baby Jesus motherboard, or doesn't fix my problem, are there any budget motherboards I could buy that are fully compatible with my system (yes, the Asus... @Andrey33,According to the HP support page, that unit was issued/released March 2012. The original OS was WIN 7.   UEFI vBIOS, which newer cards like the GTX 1050 use, will never work with a BIOS based system.  That's why your getting the "beep". That being said,  you might be in total disbelief.  Go here, and run the program. You need to see for yourself, its either BIOS or UEFI. What makes it worse is you can not fix/upgrade to UEFI. And your gonna get a hefty return fee (I paid $50).

Hi there @sailor99, Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand that you are trying to get your system to working with Windows 10, and you are having issues with the graphics adapter.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. Please verify and post the full product number for your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information.  HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number? Depending on the operating systems supported and the BIOS files available for the model, I can see what I suggest. However up front if an available BIOS update was designed for Windows XP, it will not likely install, unless a required OS is installed. I the newest drivers available for the computer are for Windows 7, then those are the ones you will want to have completely updated, but since the system is old enough to have Windows XP drivers and BIOS updates, it is not likely to have WIndows 10 drivers available. The older a system is, the more likely it is going to have issues of some sort with Windows 10. Anyway, please let me know the model information when you can.

Good afternoon, For over a year ago I bought a HP Pavilion 500-407nd but it never functioned properly (slow and very loud fan). I registered multiple tickets at Customer Care and their solution was to update my BIOS. Only problem was that all the different BIOS updates on the HP support page were not compatible. Hello.I can't find the Bios update on HP site. My bios is the AMI 8.09 28/09/2012, but I know that there is a new version: 8.20 Rev.A 12/01/2015. @Dalla1974 Sorry, but HP makes their BIOS updates OS-version specific.  This means that to do a BIOS update in Win10, the HP site must have an update for that version OS. If you try to run a BIOS update for a different OS version, that will likely fail and error out due to OS version mismatch.

I came across a term, BIOS, and was wondering what it was. After doing some research, I found out that I have a very old BIOS, American Megatrends Inc. 6.02 7/21/2010. I am intereted in playing video games after I updated my Power Supply and Graphics Card. The games I play are becoming slower than a few weeks ago. I hoped to resolved the solution and possibly increase the performance of my computer.

I was wondering if I should update my BIOS. I followed the guide from: Updating the BIOS When I tried searching for an update, I could not find a BIOS tab. I read somewhere that I should not attempt to update my BIOS if there is no such tab. I would really like to improve my computer, but I do not know how. I have also read that I should not find updates from the "motherboard manufacturer's Web site," incase something goes wrong. What should I do?

A:HP Pavilion p6624y Windows 7 64-bit BIOS Update

I'm not sure what you mean by a "BIOS tab".

Your BIOS is 2 years old. That's not "very old".

The general rule of thumb is to NOT update a BIOS unless you have very good reasons to believe doing so will eliminate a particular problem.

What are your good reasons? Have you read somewhere that your specific problems will be cured by moving from BIOS 6.02 to a new BIOS?

Hope is not a reason.

I'm not sure what you mean by your next-to-last sentence.

Your slow gaming performance is most likely due to some other reason.

At any rate, BIOS updates do not generally "improve performance". Instead, they fix particular problems or increase compatibility.

What specific SSD (brand, model) did you install and what is the complete product name or product number of the notebook?   If her notebook is an older one, it probably won't recognize a GPT, UEFI type format. That is if your install was GPT. Was it a GPT or MBR type disk?  The complete Model Name. or Product Number. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number. Without being provided with complete information it is more than a little difficult for me to know what your girlfriend's notebook has for a hardware platform, and that is important.

My sister asked for my help with her HP Pavilion P6-2326s. She had upgraded it to Windows 10 and used it a bit, I think, but it kept acting more and more broken until it mostly wouldn't even boot. At the point I got involved, we tried some different monitor cables and connections (seeming help there was probably only coincidental), and got it to the point where it tried unsuccessfully to load windows. I also tried pressing escape and got to a more extensive menu than I've seen since. I gave up for the night, powered it off, and was back to nothing on the monitor the next day. Then I found this thread. A big "thank you!" to the contributors there. I've had a bit of success following Emma's and Edward's methods and am hoping someone with the knowledge I lack will stop me from squandering any more opportunities to get further. After many attempts (usually can't even get a signal to the monitor), I got it to post. Have managed that several times over many, many tries. One of those, I was able to boot a live Linux DVD and copy her files to an external usb drive. I haven't tried terribly hard to boot windows, but I'm not optimistic about getting it going well enough for sp70376.exe, so I would like to update the bios via usb stick without booting windows, if I can. Possibly, sp70376.exe offers the option of doing it that way, but opening it on a working computer just to find out what the "on screen instructions" say seems dangerous. I found and created the 3-in-one key (SP78883, ver... Read more

I wanted to upgrade my gpu from an AMD Radeon HD 7770 to a GeForce GTX 970. The problem occurs when the BIOs haven't been updated since 2012. Any idea when/if the BIOs will EVER be updated, or should I just buy a different computer that has regular BIO updates?

A:HP Pavilion HPE h9-1170 Phoenix BIOS Update?

Hi, Usually HP provides BIOS updates for a year after the product is released to the market.  I checked a few models with the same motherboard and didn't see a HP version 8 BIOS update which is need for the NVIDIA GTX 9xx series graphics cards. The HP OEM AMD Radeon 7950 should work in your PC with the correct power supply.  The 7950 is significantly faster than the 7770.   Thanks for posting on the forum.

I was updating a Pavilion a6010n computer.I ran the BIOS update file (v.5.13 to v.5.23). Box opened warning not to turn off computer, etc.The update froze. After an hour I quit waiting. I shut down the computer manually. Removed the BIOS battery for a half minute.I reinstalled the battery and plugged in the computer. Of course it will not boot. Won't even start to boot. Is there a recovery process we can use to get this computer back? Perhaps a BIOS file we can put on a Flash drive or something? HP says they no longer support this machine. Help!

A:Pavilion a6010n BIOS update frozen

JakeKay, welcome to the forum. Since your computer is over 8 years old, it was built before some of the new methods for BIOS recovery were developed.  Therefore, I don't believe there is anything that you can do. Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

System:HP Pavilion DV7-1135nrWindows Vista Home Premium SP2 (64 bit) Problem:I was having problems with the Wifi not working, which is common with this system according to other threads.  One of the forums suggested updating the BIOS.  The original version was F.48.  I located and downloaded the latest version, F.49, from the HP help page, which is an EXE file.  I ran this,  The Wifi button changed from orange to blue and was working.  When done with the laptop, the lid was closed, which put the computer into sleep mode.  The next morning, the lid was opened and the computer was working as normal, however, the Wifi button was orange and would not go back to blue.  After walking away from the laptop and coming back, I received a DOS screen stating:  Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix the problem:1.  Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2.  Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3.  Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or copmuter manufacturer for assistance. File:  \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status:  0xc0000225 Info:  The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. Steps Taken:I tried using a friend's Vista Home Premium SP2 CD.  It does boot i... I'm fixing a laptop for a friend which has a problem booting. I'm new to HP laptops but I'm also fairly computer literate. I'm receiving 2 slow blinks on the CAPS LOCK key which indicates a corrupt BIOS according to the HP Support website and I'm also getting a solid orange light on the Wifi key and obviously the power light which I have just assumed are normal and are nothing to worry about. I've been through the HP processes (i.e. cleared vents, hard reset, re-seat memory module, attempt BIOS recovery) but I'm not getting anywhere. When I hold the Windows Key + B, the laptop certainly attempts something because the CAPS LOCK key takes an extra 20 seconds before it eventually begins it's blink code all over again. Any advice is very much appreciated.

I believe that I need to update the BIOS on this 13-a110dx HP Pavillion x360 notebook (purchased June 2015) - of course out of warranty. On HP Support page, this is what shows for the model number/product number/serial number of my computer Operating Sys:  Windows 10 (64 bit)Version:F.35 Rev.A, May 08, 2016, sp77025.exe, 17.6 MB HOWEVER,down in the details, I see another version F.34 Rev.A 17.6 MB Jun 20, 2016 WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE? This all started with an erroneous SYSTEM 90b error message"System fan/cooling error"Fan has been cleaned, serviced, and checked and it's running fine. Still get error periodically and have to do a hard reset or just hit enter to get through the message.  I noticed on support forum that I may need BIOS update so I checked and my BIOS is from 2014.?! Hoping that the BIOS update will fix this erroneous error.

Last week HP support assistant sent a message that my BIOS needed to be upgraded.  Since then, I have been in a continuous BIOS Update loop.  I have tried making a flashable usb drive.  I got that to work, but I used the previous BIOS version for my machine.  When the BIOS was writing, it got to 19% and sat awhile then zipped on to 100%.  When the machine restarted, I was still stuck in the bios loop.  Thinking that perhaps there was a problem with this version of BIOS---FROM THE HP SITE FOR MY SPECIFIC MACHINE, I tried to find the page with Bios update files, but have been unable to find it again.   Does anyone know the link to this page?  Whenever I go through the HP support site, I get nowhere.   I have also tried multiple Fn keys, but I always end up in the loop.  I removed the power supply, battery, and hard drive, but when I put it back together, back in the loop.   My machine is out of warranty.  I tried to start up from a windows 10 flash drive, but...the dreaded Bios loop. Please help.  If anyone has the link to the bios updates, that would be great!  Any other suggestions would be helpful, too. Anyone know how much HP charges for something like this?

The HP Pavilion mini that I bought here in Dubai states that the Model is a "300-0xx", which is not recognised in the HP website when all models are shown in the drop-down list. I need to know the proper model number so as to download the correct BIOS update. This is in an attempt to resolve the problem I have with the 'File Explorer' hanging and not allowing me to access my external hard drive. The 'board' selection above is very limited. No mini desktop?
