Aspire Z3-615 can't connect to 5Ghz WIFI

Q: Aspire Z3-615 can't connect to 5Ghz WIFI

Hello everyone, i'm just curious. I currently have 2 wifi lines, one normal 2.4 and a 5ghz WIFI. However, my computer, the Aspire Z3-615 on windows 8, isn't able to read the 5ghz WIFI. My network adapter is qualcomm atheros ar956x 5ghz. I've been browsing around the forum, and am pretty sure that my adapter is a single channel, which i guess means it can't read 5g :/ My phones are able to connect, so i'm just wondering if there's any way to make it so that the computer can read 5g? Thanks for the help :-)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not sure if the link below is your computer, but if it is, it says b,g,n which means it lacks a 5 GHz radio. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-aspire-z3-615-all-in-one-computer-intel-core-i3-i3-4130t-2-90-ghz-d...

Dear Community,

I am trying to get my XPS to connect to my 5 GHz home wifi network because there is far less interference and the speeds are therefore much higher. However, every time I try to connect, Windows 10 gives me the message Unable to connect to this network. The system can see the network but it refuses to connect. Other devices, such as my mobile phones connect to the network with no problem.
Here are my system details:

XPS 15 9550 (Skylake)
Win 10
Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac Wireless Adapter (version 1.566.0.0)

When I set the same network (same router) to the 2.4 GHz band, the connection works without a problem. It seems that only the 5 GHz band is causing issues. I'm therefore guessing its an issue with the network card. However, I'm sure that it does support 5 GHz networks. Has anyone else encountered similar issues? Are there other drivers I can try?

Hello

I recently got the newest NETGEAR router device, the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router, and I am unable to connect to the 5GHz WiFi it provides on its Tri-band WiFi. I am currently only on its 2.4GHz WIFI, which I assume is lesser than the 5G. I am able to connect to the 5GHz on my smart phone, so I know it exists from the router. I am running a windows 8.1 currently on a desktop on an HP Envy 700-213 Desktop PC.

Edit: My computer supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n radio types - which supports 5GHz WiFi
My adapter is a Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Any ideas for why I am unable to connect to this WiFi?

A:Unable to connect to 5GHz Wifi on NETGEAR Tri-Band Router

The most likely explanation is that the wifi adapter in your HP Envy 700-213 doesn't support the 5Ghz band.

If you really want to connect at 5Ghz you will need to get a new wifi adapter for your computer.

I want to upgrade my home network to support HD streaming over Wifi. I am considering getting an 802.11ac router and replacing my laptops Wifi network card with one that supports the new Wifi 802.11ac standard.

On my home network I want to connect a TV set top box to the router over Cat6 but my laptop is the only device that will be connecting over Wifi. I have a Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop. It has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 Wifi card which supports dual stream but only one band: 2.4Ghz.

It looks like my laptop only has two internal antenna cables and for this reason I am thinking I cannot avail of triple stream Wifi-N 450Mb/s + 450Mb/s on a simultaneous dual band N900 router. I am stuck with a theoretical max of 300Mb/s on 2.4Ghz under Wifi-N and/or 866Mb/s on 5Ghz under Wifi-AC.

Here are my questions:

1. If I get a simultaneous dual band router can my laptop stream an HD movie on the 5Ghz band and at the same time download say a Youtube video on the 2.4Ghz band? I ask that because I'd like to get a such a router and preserve every ounce of bandwidth on its 5Ghz band for streaming movies from the set top box to my laptop... not have to share it for web browsing needs.

2. Would it be a better solution, or even possible, to install a third internal antenna in my laptop and get a triple stream 802.11n class Wifi card (such as the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300) and Wifi-N Class router OR should I buy an 802.11ac router and get the better bandwidth it offers... Read more

A:Can my Laptop simultaneously connect to a 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Wifi network?

You can stream HD movies fine at 150Mbps or even less but it depends on how much of the bandwidth is being used by your neighbors. This can be a big problem in some areas. You won't be able to use both frequency's at once.

Finding the best clean channels to use are what matters most on 2.4 GHz, channel bonding comes in handy sometimes but works best when the channels are mostly clear.

5Ghz is better in this respect because hardly anyone is using it so you tend to get all the bandwidth to yourself but the drawback with 5GHz frequency is that it won't go through walls worth a darn so it's really only useful for open area's outdoors or for large rooms.

I'm running the Asus AC66U router and the Asus PCI-e AC66 NIC which usually runs about 877.5-1.1 Gb. I can stream multiple YouTube video's while watching movies although I could also do this using the 2.4GHz frequency at 300Mbps.

My laptop suddenly cannot connect to WiFi ("Can't connect to this network" error).  I run the Acer Care Center, and it says that my system is up to date (including the drivers).  I used Checkup to identify the problem, but "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem". The wireless network card is Qualcomm Aheros QCA9377. I went to http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers and there are 3 Atheros drivers listed.  I don't know if I should install a new driver and which to install since there are 3 to choose from.  Please advice.  Thank you.

My laptop is able to connect to a network when I use an ethernet cable.  I also have tried restarting my laptop to a certain date before the problem arised, but halfway through it cancels and a message pops  up saying that it is unable to restart since some files are corrupted. It also does not give me the option to factory restart my laptop.

Well the problems exactly what the title says, i can connect to my wifi but not the internet...
I tried a variety of the different solutions that i've found online (e.g. updating the driver, uninstalling the driver then rebooting causing it to reinstall as new hardware, reseting my tcp stack) but so far no luck..
I've connected it to the same network using an ethernet cable and it all works fine, the same can be said for when i connect to any other wireless network.. It only seems to be my wireless network which doesnt work... We recently changed our internet in the house from bt to virgin, and this was when the problem started, however, all of the other wireless devices work fine.

My partners Aspire 5315 laptop will not connect to our newly installed Virgin wifi. Virgin have tried to access while hard wired and can see no issue with wifi, my laptop runs without issue Samsung Q35.
When trying to connect Windows Network Diagnostics the message that comes up is;
Cannot communicate with primary DNS Server(194.168.4.100).
Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response.

We can take her Aspire laptop out and connect to friends WIFI (Virgin, BT etc.) without any issues but cannot do this on our own wifi at home. Every diagnostic thats been run shows no issues with anything.

The wireless adapter details are as follows;
Adapter name:Atheros AR5007EG Wirelss Network Adapter
MAC Address: 00-1F-3A-85-4B-62
DHCP Enabled: Enabled
IP Address: 192.168.0.6

Secondary DNS Server: 194.168.8.100

Hi I have an Acer Aspire X3950 desktop, I am running Win7 and have tried two different wifi adapters and they install but they will not connect. It is almost as if my computer itself is blocking the adapter. I spoke to an On Networks rep for over two hours and he tried everything from reinstalling to rebooting and tried three different drivers. He was from a different country and when I told him what the troubleshooter said he would not deviate from the script they give them.... 2 hours and he was not even close. It saw the device but it wouldn't even blink. Acers website nor customer service will assist me because my warranty is expired. They want me to send the computer back but I have a feeling it is an easy fix I just don't know enough about computers to say oh just uncheckmark this box. I know in the past I used wifi but switched to an ethernet cable. I don't have the option to use an ethernet cable at this time.

A:Acer Aspire X3950 Desktop, W7 unable to connect WiFi Adapter

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

Install one of the adapters, make sure you have the latest driver from the adapter manufacturer's web site, and ...

What exactly happens when you try to connect?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

hi therealabdo,

Welcome to the Forums.

From this wikidevi page, the Realtek RTL8723BE is a b/g/n 1x1:1 (one transmit and receive radio chains).

If the Wireless Mode under WiFi properties is set to Auto, this means that card will use the fastest connection possible first, which is 802.11n.

In addition, a b/g/n wireless card will not be able to detect a 5Ghz wireless access point as these type of cards can only detect and connect to a 2.4Ghz band.

A:No WiFi N 5GHz detected

This is most likely just a driver problem as most drivers have not been updated to support Windows 8.

Using the compatibility mode by right clicking before you install the driver might help.

If you want full wireless N speed of 300Mb/s then using the 802.11n Only mode in your routers settings with WPA2 security and AES encryption will get you there.

It comes with 2.4 and 5GHz WiFi. However we use our own (WiFi, connected thru RG45) because the built in doesn't work very well. My question is how can I turn the radio signal off all together if at all possible.
I can only DISABLE the signal which only means noone can access it, but the signal keep being send out.
There is not option, that I saw, that lets you off the Wifi all together or at least the 5Ghz radio signal.

Does anyone have any insight if I can do this and if so, how?? I been searching the menu up and down like Holmes and Watson!

Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge!!

All-in-one device (switch, router, wifi ap, wideband modem) is used for internet and LAN access. Its wifi operates in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. These two bands operate in sync, means if switched off then both, if switched on then both together. ThinkPad T560 does not detect the 5Ghz AP. ThinkPad's wifi needs to be disabled for few seconds than enabled back (wifi applet in system tray) in order to see AP's also 5GHz band. Where is the root cause? ThinkPad has Intel dual band wireless AC 8260. All installed software + drivers should be up to date.

Hi everybody,

I bought the new Yoga 3 Pro with the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter and have problems with the WLAN.
I have router Asus  RT-AC68U with two networks 2.4 and 5 Mhz.

All other devices has connection to both of them, but Yoga 3 can connect only to 2.4 Mhz and i have max spped connection 144 MB/s.

Is it possible to fix it?
I have tried to change settings on router and yoga but with no success.

Do you have any ideas?

Maybe is bloked in register? (i know is sometimes happed depend of region)

A:Problem 5GHz wifi with Yoga 3

Hi,

You don't say where you are located so it's going to be hard for anyone to make a specific comment about region issues.

I can say that I have exactly the same configuration.  My Y3P connected to my 5GHz network @ 700+ mpbs without changing any settings.

Does the laptop see the 5GHz network?

Good evening all,

My laptop according to the specs has the ability to connect to the 5G network from my network provider but my laptop only shows the 2G network. i can see the 5g network on my phone and connect to it but it doesn't show on this laptop.

I have more recently been playing around with the settings and not sure what I've done but i lose connection every few minutes so i have deleted the driver and reinstalled it which resolved the issue. when searching for driver updates i came across three different drivers for the Wireless, my laptop came pre installed with broadcom but i can see on the support page of Asus for this laptop model that there are downloads for Realtek, Qualcom and ralink.

Can i use any of these or do i have to use Broadcom?

can anyone advise how to unlock the ability to view 5GHz networks?

I am having an intermittent issue with my Asus RT-AC88U router (purchased about 4 months ago). The issue started about a week ago and there have been no changes I have initiated to the router or my Windows 10 Pro PC.

I noticed it first on my phone when at home, it would connect to WiFi (2.4GHz) just fine but said under the connection that internet was not available. 5GHz and wired connections had internet just fine. Resetting (power cycling) the router did not fix it but sometimes it seemed to fix it's self. Last night I had no WiFi on 2.4 but this morning it's fine. My provider is Comcast but if it was Comcast I think the issue would be on 2.4 and 5.

I contacted Asus via their support chat and the tech. had me change some setting and I figured that fixed it till the problem showed up again a day and a half later.

Has anyone had a similar issue and if so found a fix? Is this a router hardware issue and I should contact Asus for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!!

Recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 and I cannot see any 5Ghz wireless networks, even though they are present (I am able to successfully see and connect using other devices including a Windows 7 laptop). I can see 2.4 Ghz networks and connect no problem. I have upgraded the wifi driver to the latest Windows 8.1 version for the Intel Wireless-N 7260 card, v16.6.0.8 but no luck. Appreciate any thoughts or pointers.

A:Windows 8.1 - cannot see 5Ghz wifi networks

It looks like you have the latest driver for the Intel 7260 from the link.
Intel? PROSet/Wireless Software — Intel? PROSet/ Wireless Software Downloads

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 will have 802.11a and 802.11ac reported by Windows in addition to 802.11 b/g/n radios of Intel Wireless-N 7260, you may not have the dual band version.

To determine which version you have type or paste the following command into an elevated command prompt then post the results here.

Code:
netsh wlan show driver

hi guys, im running qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter which only supports 2.4ghz i would like to upgrade to 5.0ghz whats the best upgrade for me? thanks

A:upgrading WIFI adapter to support 5ghz

Hello,               Since you mentioned that you need to chage the frequency band to 5Ghz. It is not possible as the maximum frequency band that this card can run is 2.4Ghz Only with data transfer speed of 300Mbps. However you can change the channel settings in the router and check whether that works.  ******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.********Click Accept as Solution on a Reply that solves your issue to help others** I am an HP Employee#HPExpertsday

Hi, I have recently been having problems trying to get a 5GHz hotspot up and running with windows 10 with the latest Anniversary Update. I need it because I live in student accommodation and have no control over my Wifi which is slow and unreliable, however the internet from the wall is pretty good and my pc is on pretty much 24/7 anyway. It really needs to be on the 5GHz band, as there are too many other things on 2.4GHz that drastically effect performance.

I have bought two Wifi Adaptors, The first one was a Mediatek RT2870 (AC600), which worked perfectly fine using the Mediatek Driver until the anniversary update, now it won't work at all, not even for wifi, device manager just says the device is not working properly, I have tried many, many drivers and am pretty confident that it just isn't compatible with the latest build of Windows 10, at least without a driver update (which is unlikely).

Next I bought a TP-Link Archer 4UH (AC1200), Not expecting any issues from a big and reputable company, and was going to use the Soft-AP feature, only to find that doesn't work at all in windows 10 (or at least the current build), the adaptor works just fine for Wifi, but that's not my intended use for it.

I then found out that Windows 10 Anniversary comes with the functionality to create a 5GHz Wifi Hotspot built in, but non of my (reasonably popular) adaptors work with it, or through their own software, so my question is what adaptors actually will work reliably with this fe... Read more

Here is my situation (read carefully): I never had wifi problems with my 1st gen Lenovo Yoga running Windows 8 64-bit. Always super fast wifi and 5 bars on the icon. One morning, I couldn't connect to my home wifi (unidentified network), but I had no problem on my Android phone. I called my Internet provider and they "separated" the 2.4GHz channel (made for further distances, but slower) and the 5GHz channel (for shorter distances, faster). From then on, I could see the 2.4GHz on my laptop, but not connect to it and I couldn't see the 5GHz.On my phone, I could see both. As I obviously suspected a problem with the Realtek RTL8723A network adapter on my laptop, I reinstalled the driver, which partly solved the problem, as I can now surf the Internet on the 2.4GHz, but still can't see the 5GHz.Plus, I only have 1 bar on the icon, even though I'm 2m from the router. Is there anything I could do to see both channels, just like on my phone, and be able to use the faster 5GHz channel? Thanks
