Yoga 3 14: Hot keys and F Keys settings reversed

Q: Yoga 3 14: Hot keys and F Keys settings reversed

Just got this Yoga 3 14 series laptop for cheap from a local shop, and it works great on Windows 10 except for one minor but annoying thing. In the Lenovo settings app, the keyboard settings for switching between F keys and the hot keys being on the function row are reversed. If I set it to have hot keys without FN, it instead does the F row functions without FN.If I set it to have F keys without FN, it instead does the hot key functions without FN. Anyone have this problem before, and is there a fix? Many thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Whenever I change the Function Keys setting to use F1-F12 (via Lenovo Vantage), after a few reboots the setting changes back to using the Hot-Keys instead. Why?  And what can I do to stop this from happening?

I have a toshiba c55 laptop with windows 8.1 and after a recent update the Function keys appear to be reversed. In the past I would press the volume up button and the volume would increase, but now I have to hold the FN key to do so. It only seems to be getting worse with time... now when I press the i key while using Firefox the screen toggles to fullscreen mode, but the i key is still printed out. I have tried switching from special to standard function mode and vice versa from the BIOS, but nothing has worked. I tried system restore, but that has only made it worse. After the restore all the same problems were still in effect, but now when using firefox if I press the o key it brings up the web developer window. Any ideas?

A little earlier today our caps lock keys seemed to be reversed. When I pressed Caps Lock, I got lower case. When it was unactivated, I got all upper case. Now it is not doing that anymore. What could have caused it? How do I fix it if it happens again? My son and husband play computer games a lot that require hitting lots of keys. Could that have done it?

Also, I don't know if it is related, but when I was checking my e-mail, instead of replacing the window already open, when I clicked on mail it opened a new window. A new window was opened for every e-mail I opened also.

Thanks so much. You guys are great.

It seems that the Fn Key is reversed. When I use the arrow keys (for scrolling as an example), the brightness and volume is being controlled. I am not even pressing the Fn Key. And when I do, thats when the original funcion of the keys work. I seems to do it even in the BIOS. I have to press the Fn key in order to nagivate BIOS. Any suggestions?

There is a Lenovo utility to reverse them.In bios as well as I believe the Lenovo Utility. You can toggle the top row function. Been around for some time.

Hi, so I just got my new Yoga 910, and wanted to change the settings so the F keys are default and me not needing to press Fn. I found a lot of posts on the forum, where people got it working by having the latest BIOS and Lenovo Settings app from the store. I have the exact same installed, latest bios and settings app. But my input setting screen is just empty, it shows three loading spinners when loading the inputs setting page, but then just goes empty. See attached screenshot.    Anyone else experiencing this? I have updated Windows and all the drivers, also tried uninstalling the settings app and reinstalling, but that did not help either. Hope someone can help.. -- Christian

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Several days ago I noticed that these keys were having difficulty in responding when they were struck. This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Two questions:

1. This first one is a question about what two registry keys do. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > services > Tcpip > Parameters > DNSRegisteredAdapters > *Corresponding NIC*. What are the Flags, and RegisteredSinceBoot
keys? What do they do?
2. I attempt to change the values of these keys. They go back to their original values if I restart, log in, or run ipconfig /registerdns.

Here is some background. I am on an IT engineering, and I have been looking into a DNS issue we have had for quite some time. The issue is that our AD DNS server records do not update for about half of our machines. We have timestamps dating back a couple of
months (I know, I know, scavenge. The team in charge of that is in the process of getting that set). I have been looking into a multitude of things to ensure all computers' DNS records update.

In my testing, I have checked several machines and notice that those keys mentioned above have the values of- flags = 2, and registeredsinceboot = 1. On the computers that aren't updating their values are 0. I have attempted to change to 2 and 1 on a computer
that isn't updating, but the values always revert back to 0.

Perhaps the issue we are seeing isn't related at all to the keys presented, but if you can help me identify the purpose of these keys, and how to save the values if changed, that would be greatly appreciated. At least for testing purpose.

Hi everyone, The problem happened unexpectedly, i.e., I didn't install any software, didn't update the BIOS, didn't change the hardware. Just one morning after the laptop booted as usual (in Linux), the problem appeared and keeps on appearing every morning ever since. The problem: each key on the column "9-o-l-." when pressed started to activate (also) another key on the keyboard: "9" activates F11, "o" increases the audio volume,  "l" mutes the audio speaker, and "." mutes the microphone. This is even visible on the keyboard LEDs "Speaker muted" and "Microphone muted."The problem appears consistently in both Windows and Linux, and even before any OS boots (on the BIOS/Setup screen). However, after the laptop works for about an hour, the problem disapears (i.e., the keys don't activate other keys) and it does not appear until the next time I boot on the next day. I ran the keyboard tests on Windows and they passed.Strangely enough, Shift +(problematic key) works correctly, i.e., gives the uppercase character of the corresponding key. However, Alt+(problematic key) gives the same problem as without Alt.The following workaround works: I disable (in Linux) the shortcuts for the affected audio controls, so when "o" or "l" is pressed, the expected character "o" or "l" gets properly typed and is shown. Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Well you should be using Forms & Subforms for your data entry. When you link the Main form (based on the main table) to the Subform via the master key/foriegn key Access auto populates the foriegn key for you as soon as you enter soem data in to the subform.

Hello,How can I get the home and end keys near the arrow keys on my keyboard without losing page up and page down?I'm a power screen reader user and use the home and end keys once every 5 minutes and I use the computer for around 9-10 hours a day. This means there is a whole lot of moving my hand from the arrow keys to the top of the keyboard. After a day of using my new laptop, my arm is starting to hurt from moving from the bottom to the top of the keyboard so much. What most manufacturers do is have fn+left be home and fn+right be end. They also have fn+up be page up and fn+down be page down. I would love this! Currently the page up and page down keys are right above the arrow keys. FN + page up and down being mapped to home and end would be great as well. I can't figure out how to map fn keystrokes using something like Auto Hot Key though. I would be OK with swapping the home and end keys with the page up and down keys, but I can't figure out how to do that either. Auto Hot Key does not work 100% of the time and I need this functionality 100% of the time. What method would be the best for me to get home and end by the arrow keys?

Hey Everyone

Started typing on my internal laptop keyboard today and reliased that mainly keys a b and n were not working.
So I decided to clean them by taking off the key and white holder, then used a cloth to clean all the dust etc.. both under the rubber button and around it. This still didn't work however, so I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the driver as well. However this didn't work either.

Its probably best to try and buy a new one off e-bay, but before I do this does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also interesting, a b and n seems to be a popular combination of keys for other toshiba laptops that don't seem to be working... (Using a USB keyboard atm to type which works fine)

I have been using Dell Inspiron 15 5567 i7 since August of 2017. On January 3, 2017 I restarted my laptop for Windows updates. However, when I began to use the laptop after the restart it became apparent that the multimedia keys (volume, brightness, play/pause, etc.) weren?t working. It appears that during the restart, the top row of keys somehow changed from primarily acting as multimedia keys to primarily acting as function keys. This change is unwanted and quite inconvenient for me.
I?ve spent a fair amount of time searching through options and settings in Windows Control Panel and Windows Settings and haven?t found anything related to the function of the multimedia/Fn keys. I?ve gone to the BIOS settings three times and not only is there nothing related to the multimedia/Fn keys, but my BIOS doesn?t seem to have the same configuration and options as the online examples. I have accessed BIOS both by pressing shift while selecting restart and by pressing F2 when the Dell screen appears when restarting. Finally, the Fn-lock key (Fn+Esc) does not seem to have any function at all.
I feel that I?ve exhausted all of the obvious options and all of the options I can easily find online. I would greatly appreciate any help in figuring out how I can switch the Fn keys back to performing as multimedia keys. Have I looked over something? Am I not properly accessing BIOS settings? Please help.

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

If you held down the shift key for 8 seconds, then you did not turn on Sticky Keys, but rather you could have turned on Filter Keys. A:Keys that have FN functions on them not working as normal keys

Check the Manual on the model's Support Downloads webpage for key combo to unlock: http://www.ehow.com/how_4968993_unlo...ey-laptop.html

Try updating or reinstalling the hotkeys driver from the model's Support Downloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

While there look also for any downloadable fixes for these key functions or related.

It may also be disabled in msconfig>Startup. You can google the listings there to see what they're for. Normally you only need your AV checked and the rest are freeloaders, but some models require hotkey software to be running at startup if it provides anciliiary functions like backlighting, function toggling, etc.

A:Fn Keys and Audio Keys not working after updates.

You probably updated the power management driver.  Its affecting a lot of people.  Its affecting OSD and Fn keys.  See below post.  The solution is to ROLL back the power management driver.

From time to time the computer behaves as if sticky keys and/or filter keys is turned on. They are not turned on in control panel so I can't just go there to turn them off. Running CC Cleaner sometimes helps with this problem. It is not an issue with the keyboard either. On a possibly related note, my homepage keeps changing itself to MSN. Thank you for any help.

Hi folks

If anybody was a member of the old TechNet system and have keys from those days -- W7 / W8 /W8.1 keys are still valid to be used for W10 installs.

If you haven't got your keys or lost them you can still logon (use your Microsoft ID) and get your keys -- export as an XML file and then open with EXCEL to get a nice formatted list.

Same rules apply -- W7 PRO and up for example can be used to install W10 Pro etc.

Yep, all my Windows 10 Free upgrades were from my TechNet Windows 8.1 keys. Those were the keys in use at the time I did the free upgrade. At that time, you had to do the upgrade at least once to get your digital entitlement. Now you can clean install and just type in your Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 key. Bonus bonus.
