I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What do you want to know?

The main difference between the SATA drives and the PATA (IDE) ones is that the SATA drives have no master/slave/cable select jumper, as there is a single drive per SATA controller channel. The cables and connectors are different than with PATA, but the principles are the same. SATA data and power connectors are more likely (in my opinion) to come loose than the old ones, but the SATA data cable is quite slender, which is good from an airflow basis.

Hello all, I'm actually Yoshi123 but my email was victimized by a spoofing attack and I forgot my password for the profile, so I had to make a new profile with my new email.

I recently bought an ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD burner (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204) for my family's eMachines T3120 computer. This computer came with a pre-installed CD/DVD drive but it cannot burn DVDs. So, I am planning to install this burner into the spare space on the eMachines computer below that CD/DVD drive.

I have a few questions regarding this...

1. On this website, http://www.impactcomputers.com/mbem105554k8.html, it says "Controlled by NVIDIA MCP51G / SATA II PORT 2 port with 3GB/s support." Does that mean that there is a SATA port with which I can connect the burner to the motherboard? I checked inside the case and the CD/DVD drive that's already in there doesn't use a SATA cable; it uses a IDE cable. Do I just buy a regular SATA cable and use that to connect it? Or is there another option? I would like the cheapest (but reliable) option, since we are somewhat tight on money....

2. I am more of a software guy, not a hardware guy, so I'm nervous about putting in this new drive. This is the first time I'm customizing/upgrading hardware on a computer. I've read online guides, but they are too vague for me. There's a brief guide on the user guide provided by eMachines, but I don't know if I should fo... Read more

I recently built my new computer and got it up and running about a month ago. I just ordered a new Sata Samsung DVD/CD Burner and when I installed it into my computer I booted up windows and now I keep getting the blue screen of death when windows is loading up giving me various errors such as page file and irq balance or something like that. I then uninstalled the Sata drive from my computer and I still cannot log onto windows vista and I constantly get the blue screen of death telling me I have a hardware error. If any can help me out here would be great so I will have some hair left to pull out later. :}

Well I managed to stop the errors from happening. I have four 1 gig sticks of ram and I removed two of them and now I no longer get the errors but i get to windows and all I get is the vista background no start menu nothing. I also get my mouse pointer and can move it around but thats it.

This maybe a stupid question, but I don't know the answer...

Will adding SATA DVD drive to the SATA II port change the throughput of the SATA II bus? Similarly how the IDE port used to fall back to the slowest device speed on the IDE cable.

I have four SATA II hard disk drives connected and planning to replace the two IDE DVD burners with the SATA DVD burners.
TIA..

A:SATA DVD burner...

not a stupid question.

the simple answer is 'no'.

each device is on a single cable attached to one port, and doesn't affect anything else.

I saw a friend of mine backing up movies with a LiteOn SATA DVD-burner the other day, and it absolutely astounded me. He was pushing 10kkb a second transfer rate, -without- a SATA HDD.

What kind of numbers do those of you with a complete SATA setup get? I never noticed too much of a difference with SATA HDDs, but SATA burners seem crazy.

Maybe i'm imagining it, eh.

A:SATA Burner?

You missed a K. 10kkb, 10,000kb, 10mb/second. Shorthand isn't such a good communication tool

As far as I know it was a standard 16x drive, so the only change I attributed it to would be the SATA interface. What else would cause it? Just the fact thats it a new drive?

I'm not sure but this issue i encountered a couple of times with AMD machines with ASUS DVD Burner. If you have other machine like Intel or a friend has so take that Sony drive out and test it on other machine that's what i would recommend you to do coz in that way it will be confirm that it's the drive itself has a problem or it's just happening in your PC. Also try to change the SATA port if you have more than 2... If it will work on other machine and not on your so replace the brand. Hope it helps

Im using Nero 8 and have also been using windows disc image burner aswell.

Is there a possibility that the 2 programs have cause an issue with my burners and they are in some default mode ?

I cant find any options in win7 for this new windows disc image burner.
I cant find anywhere in Nero to adjust the speed on which it burns.

So as it is now I have 2 burners unable to burn over 4x.

I recently purchased a Lite-on dvd burner that is SATA. I have installed the most current drivers and my computer finds the device fine and says it is working properly. It will not however run a dvd or allow me to open the drive. I get an error message saying improper function for drive E:/.
When I boot the computer up there is a message about the burner saying to hit tab and go into the setup screen. When I do this I see a flashing red sign that says Notice: Not enough drives in CH 1 to set up a RAID.

My thinking is that it is trying to read my dvd burner as a HDD. There are options on the page but they are not highlighted and I cannot change anything to switch how my PC sees my burner. I have looked in my normal BIOS settings and there are no options there either. I know it is probably something simple but I can't figure it out.

Did you plug the DVD burner into a RAID port? Try with a non-RAID port or say in BIOS (or RAID BIOS) that the DVD burner port is not RAIDable.

I bought a Asus P5l-mx motherboard that is supposed be able to use IDE or SATA hard drives. I first hooked up my DVD burner and one hard drive so I could load windows. I have another hard drive of the same but the board did not have IDE2 port. Windows loaded fine but after booting into windows I tried to install all my drivers but I got nothing but errors, ( not a win32 application or I/o error. I did everything I could think of and finely I went into my bios setup and set the DMA and another setting and rebooted and it worked like a charm but I do not understand why I had to manually set it up. Hi joozeppy, and welcome to TSG.

A SATA data cable does not provide power to the device and you do need to feed power to the DVD drive. Check the computer's power supply cables to see if it includes a spare SATA power cable with plug.

That's fine--the - and + is a different format--some DVDs are - and some are plus--most today burn to both formats and I would get a drive that burns to both formats. You don't need a CD-RW if you have a DVD-RW. I only have one drive. You may want one for CD to CD copiesa and if you have the room.

Hi
I wanna tell you a story! Only a little one, honest.
A couple of months ago all was well, my 3 burners worked fine.
Then, problems.
Summary.
Cannot write to sata TSST DVD dual layer (it is one year old).
Can write to ata (ide) Lite-on dual layer (it is two years old).
Using Verbatim DL media (although worked with Ricoh till recently).
Error message is 'unable to write sector...' or similar.
I am using - on recommendation - ImgBurn, having removed Roxio and Nero.
However, ImgBurn shows TSST Burner as being a Raid drive. I have ggogled and find that there are one or two posts where burning has failed when sata drives are seen as Raid, but no one has said how to remove that designation.
I believe that if OS sees burner as Raid it will try to treat it as such. It cannot, hence it fails!
On failure, it hangs the OS, such that I cannot save the log file, Hard reboot necessary, cannot even shut down process from task manager.

So, I originally had my main HD in Raid(0)striped. So removed Raid array, rebooted, formatted hard disks, re-installed windows Vista Ultimate to one of the hard disks, deleted the drivers for the burners and rebooted.
Windows found drivers and set the 2 TSST burners to Raid, the ATA Lite-on remained as ATA.

Still same problem! burning fails on DL media on TSST, but is ok on ATA Lite-on.

I checked DMA - it is checked as ON.

Any ideas just how I can removed the burners from being seen as Raid drives!??! I am almost certain THAT would solve the ... Read more

The problem is mi IDE cable can only connect 2 devices and I already have a CD ROM and a zip drive, so I was wondering if there is such a thing as an IDE cable capable of connecting 3 devices?? (I went 2 4 computer stores and none of them had one) If not, then what's the problem if I connect it to the IDE cable for my hard drive?? (The manual for the burner says I should avoid doing that) And lastly, even if I were to use the hard disc's IDE cable, I'd have to hook it up completely different (i.e., connect the zip to the hard drive and the burner tu the cd rom), do I have to reconfigure all my devices if I do that?? Any help is appreciated!

A:Need help installing a CD burner

2 devices per cable is the limit. I think your best bet would be to connect the hard drive as primary master with the zip as primary slave. Then connect the CDRW as secondary master and the cd rom as secondary slave. The jumpers must be set correctly and windows should find everything in their new positions.

I am interested in getting a DVD burner installed on my computer. Today while I was at the office supply store, one of the gentlemen that works there told me that he could install it for me when I was ready. He told me that it was relatively simple to install and when I asked him where it would be installed on the computer since I have a CD burner he told me that he would take out the CD rom drive and install the DVD burner there. Is this the usual thing that is done?
Just last weekend I got hooked up to our local cable TV's internet service. I can now download music very quickly, which used to take 20 minutes to an hour can be done in just a few minutes. I was just wondering how long it should take to download a movie and how much I will be paying for the DVD disks. This is all very new to me and I have so many questions. Everyone has always been so helpful to me, so hope that continues.

Thanks so much

Well you need to make sure that you have your new burner set as a slave on the cable. I had some problems with my aspi drivers as well. But if your problems says it is in the cables, then you might try and change that drive to a slave.

When I choose Start Windows Like Regular, the screen with "Microsoft XP HOME EDITION" appears, it all loads. Then the screen goes black, I have waited 20 minutes, but it stays black. I checked to see if it was my monitor, but the monitor was not the problem. If I reboot, it takes me back to the screen that asks me the way I would like to start windows. If I do safe mode, everything loads perfectly, and the drives are installed in the "My Computer" section. Baisacally, my question is, what am I doing wrong? The IDE port on the motherboard isn't fried of course. Why wont windows load if it isnt in safe mode, but will run regularly if the IDE Ribbon is disconnected from its motherboard port. Please get back to me ASAP, I really appreciate your service!

Have you tried jumpering one drive as master and the other as slave? Cable Select seems to give some people problems.

Hey !! I just installed a sony cd -r/rw and my computer didn't even detect it . All I did was unplug the things from my cd rom and plug in to new one. What can I do ?

A:Installing CD burner

When you reboot does the light come on, on the cd. Also how is it connected to the mobo. Is it connected on the same cable as the HD? If so check that the jumpers are set to slave. Or better still check the jumper settings on the old cd and set the new one up the same.

Ok so I think I know how to do this I just wanna make sure this is right. I have a Hard Drive in my Primary IDE drive as Master and a CD-ROM in my Secondary IDE drive as Master. So I plug this CD burner ribbon into the Secondary IDE ribbon (CD-ROM) then into the burner and switch the CD burner jumpers to slave. Can somebody tell me if this is the right way to install this device?

A:Installing CD burner

Sounds OK. The HD is connected to the primary IDE controller via a ribbon cable, and set to master. On the secondary IDE controller you have the CD-ROM at the end of the ribbon cable, set to master, and the burner further down the cable set to slave. Should work OK.

Hi. I just recently purchased a LG DvD Burner and I installed everything just like in the owners manual. When i Pluged the computer in and turned it on, the cmputer wouldnt turn on. It beeps for about 10 seconds then stops for 5 seconds. Then it starts beeping for 10 seconds over and over again. Did i do something wrong when installing the burner?

do you have the manual for the motherboard? if so, look in it for the post error beep codes. you can also go to the web site of the mobo mfgr and see if they have the post codes there.

I have purchased a oem nec 3520 burner to add to my current cd-r/dvd drive. As it is an oem it has not come with any cables or software does anybody know if i will need to get the drivers for it or should it just work once installed. Also what should i set my current drive and the new drive to regarding the master and slave settings.

A:Installing a dvd burner

You won't need anything you don't already have, unless you've got one of those old ide ribbons that don't have a second connector for another drive.

If you want to do it real fast I'd set your new one up as slave and leave the other one untouched.
Personally, if it was my machine I'd make the new one master and the old one slave, but in reality it doesn't make one bit of difference.

Windows will autodetect the drive, so you won't need any drivers. To burn a dvd though you are going to need some software. I recommend Nero, but there are some others that will work.

I have a CD burner my daughter gave me. She got it a year ago, never used it (bought a computer with one built in) and just gave it to me. In the box. But, the USB cord, and CD (to install it) have gotten misplaced at her house (over the year) (she has teenagers (LOL)

I have ordered another cord and blank CDs.

What do I need to download to use it?

I was thinking just a driver, but someone just told me I need a program to use it. I plan to use it for saving files (pictures, etc) as a backup from the PC. But, my kids will probably want to use it to make music CDs, too.

I have REAL AUDIO and WIN MEDIA PLAYER.

I thought I could just find and install the driver and then use whatever I'm on (for files) like WORD, and SAVE AS, just pick the CD drive (will it say E DRIVE because my PC one is D?) and SAVE AS.

Any simple basics for a CD newbie will be appreciated.

I recently bought a DVD burner on Newegg, and I'm wondering how I can best install it. I already have 2 hard drives, and a CD burner. The second hard drive is the master drive, and my CD burner is the slave, on one cable. On the second cable, the first hard drive is the master, and the new DVD burner will be the slave. However, the cable isn't long enough to support the first hard drive in the master position and the new DVD burner as the slave, so I'm wondering if there are any other setups that will work.
Here is a diagram of the setup:
For instance, would it work to have the DVD burner as the master, or would that make the hard drive too slow?
Any help is apprecated, thanks!

I'm running Windows Me and am about to install a DVD Burner. Is it alright to install in a 3rd bay, or should I remove the DVD Rom and replace that? Also, should it be Slave or Master? Also, I read that you need a video capture card to load VCR tapes to computer. How do I find out if I have one? If I don't, can you advise me what I need to buy? Thanks in advance for any help anyone might offer.

A:Installing new DVD Burner...

this link re the video capture card.

regarding the DVD burner, if you have a spare connection on the IDE cable then lug it in. If its on the same cable as the DVD rom, set the DVD burner as master and the DVD rom as slave.

The optical drive and hard drives have to be set up as masters and slaves. The hard drive is the primary master on IDE channel 1, and the CD drives are secondary master and slave on channel 2. You have to set the jumper on the back of the new drive to slave and connect it to the same cable the hard drive is on. The jumper on the new drive may have been set to master.
