Windows keeps adding numbers after my WiFi name

Q: Windows keeps adding numbers after my WiFi name

Im using windows 10 totally updated version and the problem im facing is that windows keeps adding numbers after my WiFi name/SSID and the number keeps on increasing. It aint causing any trouble with network usage but I still wanna fix it and wanna know whats causing this. Ive attached a picture with this thread where u can see the wifi name states Redmi 7 but my network name is just Redmi. This 7 was 2,3,4... some days ago. Please help me asap with this issue ill be grateful.

Preferred Solution: Windows keeps adding numbers after my WiFi name

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't understand why that is a "problem" or why you are bothered, but I don't need to understand. In Network Connections you can right click on the connection name and select Rename and call it whatever you wish (within reason). I should add that you could do this in previous versions of Windows but I'm only assuming the ability has not been removed in Windows 10.

I need an Excel formula that will add a column of numbers by the date in which they (each number) occurred. The dates and numbers in sequence (which helps). For example, to add all of the monthly payments (by month) that will occur between 10/1/04 and 10/1/05 (in this case one payment per month) what could I use as a formula?

I have a company that sends people out into the field, the job may take more than one day and they may sell the same and different items each day. I am looking for an easy way to total these things up. I know Excel pretty well, but I can't figure out macros. What I would like to do is;be able to input Item #'s, have it look up the Description (which I know how to do), then I enter amount used, then on the side somewhere have it "auto sort" and "auto total" in either format as shown in Option #1 or #2 (I would really like it to show Option #2 & 1) Then I can review it with each item listed in order and give it to my secretary to enter into my invoicing program.

Item # Description Amount used

I am having trouble with Excel 2003 automatically adding the last digit in a Postal Code. For example, when I type in "R3R 4K5" in A1 and then click the corner of it and drag it down a couple of cells it goes from "R3R 4K5" to "R3R 4K6" and "R3R 4K7" and so on.

Is there an option that you can disable to prevent this?

I have a new 11e laptop, 3rd Generation. Everything was working good. All of a sudden, the keyboard when typing only the middle row letters of "a,s,d,f, j, k, l, ;" a number will be added in front or to the back of the letter. All other keys are typing fine. I have checked for anything NumLock that could be related to causing this. Nothing in BIOS Set. Checked keyboard settings - the correct language is set. I tried to press FN+F11 and nothing. I turned on the online keyboard and clicked on NumLock there and turned it off, that did not fix it. I attached an external keyboard, that types fine. Turned on and off num lock, that did not fix it. I did a restore back to a date before it happened, that did not fix it. I just reimaged the laptop and that did not fix it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Is there some way to make it so page numbers display on the printed pages of an Adobe .pdf file? I converted a Word document to .pdf, but the Word document did not have the numbered pages. I now want to add the numbers in Adobe Reader, but it looks like I'll have to go back to the original Word document, add headers which include the page number, and then re-convert it to .pdf. Is that correct? If I could do it within Adobe Reader, that would be preferable.

A:Adding Page Numbers to .PDF document

The file is a creation from an original Word file, the page numbers would need to exist in the Word file.

It would be a nightmare if in creating a PDF it was able to assign new printed page numbers as these would often not align with the original document and TOC's would be incorrect.

About a year ago, I created an input form that contains a subform in which are listed all the contributions of a member of the organization. Under the subform -- IN THE MAIN FORM, not within the subform -- I had placed a field that summed the contributions for that individual, and another field that displayed the domain sum (DSum) for all contributions. Both have worked perfectly every since.

The field that sums the contributions for the individual used the formula "=[Contributions subform].[Form]![ContribSum]". The field that does the domain sum is "=DSum("Contribution","Contributions")+IIf(DSum("MatchAmt","Contributions") Is Not Null,DSum("MatchAmt","Contributions"),0). I removed the field "MatchAmt" from the table, and changed the DSum statement to just "DSum ("Contribution","Contributions").

After doing that, both field yield only "#Error". Part of my puzzlement is the field "ContribSum". It is not a field in either table, and is nowhere in either form. I haven't the foggiest where it is or why the formula refers to it. I tried using just "=Sum([Contributions.subform].Form![Contribution]), but that for some reason reports only the first contribution; doesn't add all of them up.

So my question is, how does one sum number fields in a subform in a field OUTSIDE of the subform/in the host form?

A:Adding numbers in a subform (Access 2000)

Put the "=" back in front of DSum, so that it says this:

The "#Error" means that Access is trying to do some sort of operation that it can't pull off.

As for your sum question, it's cagey, unless you can program a little. The workaround is this:
In the subform, show the form footer. There should be a control there called ContribSub, I'm guessing, from your post. If not, make one.
Set its control source to

Once you're sure the subform sum is working, you can set the Visible property of the form footer to false. That way you don't see your total down there.
Now you can build a control source on the master form whose control source is set to

=[Contributions subform].[Form]![ContribSum]

As for why your other attempt wasn't working (the one that goes like "=Sum([Contributions.subform].Form![Contribution])"), you must remember that Access maintains only one "active" record at a time, per form or subform. So your control wasn't lying; I'll bet changing records in the subform would prove that. But it's only adding the total of the active record--this is the big difference from a report, where there are no active records.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Yesterday, we got broadband access at a vacation house. I purchased and Apple Airport Extreme since we are all Mac Users (we have all Cisco routers at home and office, so maybe that was a mistake but I thought this would make life simple). I password protected the network.

I connected my MacBook Air, ipad 3 and iphone 4s yesterday. No problems and things are working perfectly.

Today, my wife tried to join the network and it says Self-Assigned IP address 169.x.x.x this device may not connect to the internet. So, I deleted the network, and tried again. I rebooted. I rebooted the Airport Extreme. I released DHCP under Advanced. Nothing worked.

I connected the computer to the router via an ethernet cable. The computer recognizes that it is connected to the internet but will not connect.

Today I tried to connect my kids iphones and computer and ipad to the network. I can't make any of them connect.

Is this a problem with the Airport Extreme? Should I return it? Or is this a problem of another kind?

I have 4 pc's using one cable modem and router...all connect fine to the internet and when I set it up, I made a home network for two of them to share files and they work fine. Today I tried adding the two others to the workgroup for file sharing and have run amuck.

all 4 run some flavor of windows xp with SP2 installed. The router is WEP encrypted. All use Norton Internet Security 2007. I ran the NETSETUP files from when I first set it up, but cannot tell that that did anything. I also went in to each new pc and enabled file sharing and joined the workgroup of the other two. I went into NIS on all pcs and entered the IP addresses of the others as TRUSTED.

I can go to MY NETWORK PLACES on any of the machines and see the others (both the "live" and "new" ones show this) but from the existing PCs I cannot access the new ones (error: PCNAME not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource etc etc). From the "new" pc's I can "see" the others but get that error message when I try to access anything.

I have tried pinging and cannot ping the new ones, the old ones ping fine.

I sure feel stupid and I'm wasting a lot of time... I know one of you has a 15 second solution and I was too stupid to try you sooner...

thanks in advance,

Tom O'Connell

A:wifi net problem adding PCs

"I have tried pinging and cannot ping the new ones, the old ones ping fine."

99% probability that it is a firewall problem, Tom. I know you configured Norton, but you need to revisit it. Apparently you are using static IP addresses on your LAN, but even so maybe you could try putting the entire range into the Trusted Zone. Or uninstall Norton on of the problem PCs and see if that makes a difference.

I have a network that has a broadband cisco router and checkpoint firewall that I cannot touch. It was set up by our dept of Education, and has to be left alone. But one of the teachers has asked me to set up wifi access for the network.

I have set up a wireless access point D-link DWL-G700AP , and I can configure this assign IP addresses on the network, BUT I have to manually set the DNS and the gateway on the clients manually. The whole idea is to make this oblivious to the user.

Is there any device that I can get to act as a DHCP relay, to forward the DHCP broadcasts to the checkpoint firewall, i.e. so that both wired and wireless clients get their IP address, gateway and DNS servers from the checkpoint firewall.

"I have 4 x HDDs on SATA AHCI (Intel Controller) in Native Mode and 1 x ESATA on Win 7 Pro X64.
I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

"Disk 1".
Selecting the Drive's Properties correctly shows the "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)".
I also note that the Disk Number allocation in Windows will change randomly after some reboots/startups - going anywhere from "Disk 1" to "Disk 4".  I can force/replicate this

behaviour by removing the ESATA drive.
Is this expected behaviour?
It doesn't appear to create any operating issues at this stage, however, is there a way I can force the Drive to always map to (eg) Device 0 --> Disk 1, Device 1 --> Disk 2,

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

I have three SATA hard drives :
Main system/boot drive , WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 0 port
A backup drive, identical WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 1 port
Another dirve, Hitachi 1 TB, connected to the SATA 2 port
When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

A:SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

Best advice, leave it alone. It may bother your (and others) sense of order but it won't affect how anything works, and no re-installing Windows won't change it.

Hi all . Not sure if you remember me, been gone for a while.

So far, I have a cable linksys router for my 2 rigs at home. Works great - constant internet access, no hiccups, it's awesome. However, lately I've been thinking of using some WiFi devices (mainly Apple's Ipod Touch) when I'm just bored around the house or something.

But, there's a slight problem - how do I get WiFi? I guess if I had a wireless router, it'd all "just work". However, I like my current setup, and don't want extensive switching to a whole different router (what am I going to do with these cables I spent so much time on routing around doors and walls?). Is there some kind of WiFi "antenna" I can connect to my router (2 more open slots right now), which I can use for wireless devices? Or... maybe connect a wireless router to my cabled router O_o? Also, after I get a wireless thing, do I expect it to "just work"? Or is there some complicated setup involving WiFi?

I searched Newegg, but didn't find anything of the sort (other than wireless routers, obviously). Any cheap solution ? I don't want to splurge another 50+ bucks after getting $300+ handheld WiFi-enabled device -_-.

A:Adding WiFi to an existing cabled network (router) system?

Rick said:

A wireless access point should be the solution. They look a lot like routers usually - but without the routing stuff. .

This device would basically just add wireless capability to your existing setup without interfering with your current configuration.

An issue to consider though is that APs tend to be just as expensive as their router counterparts, despite routers having more versatility. For this reason, you may want to consider getting a router, but turning off its DHCP-server function and not plugging any devices into is WAN port (basically turns it into an AP). It would add a little extra confusion, but the extra utility might be nice...Click to expand...

Aha, interesting... Any specific pointers for a wireless access point? I actually read about them in a how stuff works WiFi article, but I couldn't find anything specific on Newegg. If I were to get a wireless router (again, any specific pointers? ), do I have to replace my main router? Or can I connect the wireless router to one of my main router slots ?

Either way, thanks for the quick reply

I have an internet connection that I have extended to my Brother in law's house, next door. At the moment, I basically have two LAN cables coming out of my modem/router, one going to my computer and another, extended cable, going to his computer.
However, he wants to use his spare modem/router, which has wifi capability, to allow his son to use his own computer downstair with only wifi.
Therefore, will there be any conflicts if I simply splice in a Lan cable or add a lan socket for the second modem/router (wifi location.) at the appropriate point along Lan cable 2? See diagram below.
If there is a possibility of conflict what would be an alternate wiring method?

A:Adding extra wifi (modem/router) to my already extended network

Good drawing and this will work just fine. In fact, that's what I use to get access at the far end of the house. Here's the trick;

router#1(lan slot) ---- (lan slot) router#2 with wifi
Notice that #2 WAN slot is left empty! This places all systems on the same subnet of the router#1 {what you are doing is making router#2 act like a switch which has wifi support (y) }

* Give router# a unique LAN address (If #1 is, then make #2 This will allow each to be manage via a browser connection
* in router#2 disable DHCP. This forces #1 to be the manager of the entire network and it will handout all IP addresses
Personally, I use the MAC addresses of my devices to enable router#1 to use Address Reservation of IP address for all devices attached to #1 (ie I map the devices to the range 1.2-> 1.10)

Then set the DHCP range in #1 to 1.100-1.50
These will be used for all devices attached (wired or wifi) to #2

All systems can then use the firewall to allow or deny access for one or both halves of the network. EG: I permit access for 1-10 and 255 while denying 100-254ALL system must allow the top-end address 255 as that is the broadcast address that is used to hand out the DHCP data.

There are several issues that came up when I upgraded to Windows 10. While it is a celebrated and supposedly eye pleasing application, it seems that they have chosen to disregard users and deleted certain preferences from a user's browser.  This makes
it practically impossible for the user to log into several accounts, since every single site requires different types of passwords, and in order for a person to be able to log on to the several accounts, a person would have to carry around a folder with about
100 different account names, user names, passwords, answers to who, what, or where, phone #s & other pertinent information to be able to log onto or recover a lost or forgotten password.I really do not like what Microsoft has done with the new browser.
It looks chick, but to me it's unworkable and a nuisance to use.  If the Cadillac is not broken, why fix it?

You might help by filling out the system spec's on your system.

Also, Is your problem that the program your trying to run requires a com port higher than 7?

You can in most cases, in your system configuration rename the com port to a higher number.

Anyone have any idea what I need to do in Windows 10 to get my Numbers Lock to stay on all the time?
Each time I start the system I have to remember to press the Numbers Lock button. On my Windows 7 it stayed on all the time unless I purposely turned it off.
It's no real big deal to push a button, but it's just a pain in the rear to type in a password or user name and discover it didn't work simply because this darn button was turned off by the system.
Oh, I did do a "regedit" and changed the numbers in the box to #2 and restarted the system. When the system restarted the Numbers Lock light was on and I figured I must have fixed it. However when I booted up today it was off again.

Greetings All,Recently did a Clean Install of Windows 7 X64 on an HP DV7 and now My Windows Update will NOT work. It just goes searching forever / endlessly. I have tried and downloaded and installed a few KB Numbers (KB3083710, KB3102810 etc. ) to try and fix the issue with NO avail.  Yes, I am losing my Hair fast   Could  some one please help me with the Latest KB Numbers or Solutions I can try as of August 2016?  Any Help would be greatly Appreciated.Thank You in advance for your time.Best Regards, Rob

A:What are the Latest KB Numbers to fix Windows Update NOT wor...

Rob3307 Folks have bandied about a couple of different KBs -- claiming these both "fixed" Windows Updates.  But further examination has revealed that NOT to be true. I continue to support a bunch of Win7 PCs, some of which were rolled back from Win10 because the owners disliked Win10 so much. But, I have noticed that recently, Windows Update has been performing really slowly on ALL these machines. The symptoms are that it searches for HOURS -- and does not appear to make any progress!OR .. it finds stuff, but then goes into downloading for HOURS ... and does not appear to make any progress!Anyway,  check for a Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads\ folder.  This is where Windows Updates stores the updates it downloads and its working files.  IF it exists, Windows Update is working -- even though you see no progress.  Over time, the folder will grow until all the Updates have been downloaded.  Then, it will shrink as the Updates get applied.  When done, Windows should remove it. If it does not, you can remove the contents of that folder, but do not remove the folder itself. And yes ... updates are taking hours (or days!) when they used to take only a few minutes. So basically, there is nothing wrong with your PC.  And -- if you RESET it, you are only going to make matters worse as that will start the Update process from scratch, and the last time I did that, it took three full days (!) to find, download, and apply all the updates... I have 2 machines running at home both with Intel 17 920s and Asus motherboards with Vista Ultimate 64bit installed.

1 board is the Rampage II Gene, with 12gb OCZ Gold DDR3 ram and a Diamond Radeon 4890. Everything is set to factory settings, no overclocking yet. The best I have seen on the index is 5.9, with all the subcategories showing 5.9. The hard drive is a Western Digital "Black" 1 TB. Also have 2 optical drives, 1 HP super- multi with Lightscribe and the other is a LG super-multi. All this is in an Antec 300 box with an Antec 750W power supply. All the drive connections are SATA.

The second board is an Asus P6T SE with 6gb Corsair Dominator DDR3 ram
and an XFX Radeon 4760. Everything is set to factory settings with no overclocking yet. The best I have seen on the index with this one is also 5.9 but the processor score is 7.5 and the memory score is 7.4. The rest of the subcategories are a flat 5.9. The hard drive is a Western Digital
VelociRaptor 300gb . Also have 2 optical drives, 1 HP super- multi with Lightscribe and the other is a LG super-multi. This is in a midtower with an Antec 750W power supply. Again all the drives are SATA.

I have tried the SATA drives set to IDE and AHCI with no improvement either way.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to improve the performance?

I have two monitors. Before a computer crash, the one on the left was identified by Windows 7 as #1, and the one on the right as #2. Now the numbers are reversed and macros that rely on screen coordinates no longer function correctly. I've tried disconnecting the right (currently #1) monitor and starting the system with only the left monitor functioning. Windows identifies the monitor as #1 as desired, but as soon as I add back the second (right) monitor Windows changes the left monitor back to #2.

Is there some way of getting Windows to call the left monitor #1?

Hi all,

New here, so I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this(if it isn't, admins please move it to the correct forum, thanks!). I'm currently running Windows 8.1 and recently I took a look at my Resource Monitor and noticed a process called numbers.exe with the description "Numbers". It showed it as running in the background but in a suspended state.

As I've never seen that process before, I decided to search it up and it came up with some results related to a trojan/rootkit. But this trojan/rootkit was namely referred to as <random numbers>.exe (for example: 123456789.exe); nothing indicating specifically the process "numbers.exe". I did a bit of digging in the associated handles and noticed that some of the files were related to the default Windows Calculator App, which I have currently pinned to my Start. When I unpinned it from the Start the process was gone.....so I'm assuming it is the process for the calculator. But because of a trojan incident I had a few years back, I'm a bit paranoid based of the searches that popped up for numbers.exe.

So I was wondering if anyone knows if this "numbers.exe" is a legitimate process? Does anyone else who also has the default calculator pinned to their start have this process running as "suspended"?

Anyone help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A:Windows Calculator App = numbers.exe process?

I just fired up Windows 8.1 Calculator. The only things I see listed are Windows Calculator under processes and calc.exe under Details. No numbers.exe. I hope this helps.

I have sought a solution for this problem for a few weeks and cannot find one.

My notebook is an HP Pavilion dv9005ca Laptop (17in. screen) and has a separate numeric keypad. Running Windows XP SP2 with all patches.

The keys: M,JKL,UIO produce numeric characters (0 to 6) when the num lock key is on and the correct characters when it is off (some other keys on that side of the keyboard produce symbols found on the numeric keypad).

Following HP support suggestion at [url not allowed:-( ] I have tried the Fn + num lock combination but this does nothing.

When I first boot up the characters are normal until the num lock key is toggled.

At some point a while ago when entering text I believe I inadvertently pressed a combination of keys that caused this problem.

I hope someone can help.

Hello. I don't know how exactly to explain my problem but I'll try:
I connect to a wireless network whose name is for example "X" and I have a network connection but I don't have internet access. I disable and enable the wireless adapter and the name of the network is now "X 1" and so on... The problem is my internet is only working on number 9 and I don't know how to delete the other available settings (I am not sure if they are settings) so I can connect only to number 9, not to all other numbers to 10 in different orders - I mean if I disable/enable once it gives me a lucky number - not one after another. I don't know if you understood what I mean but I really hope so. Thank you

A:Windows 7 puts numbers after my wireless network name

See here for info on removing unused Wireless networks: How to Remove a Wireless Network in Windows 7

Also, you can rename the network connection if you want.

netsh interface set interface name="Local Area Connection 2" newname="Local Area Connection"

Actually, you could make newname anything you want, like "Fred's Internet" or "My Wireless Connection".

Sorry if this has already been discussed. Couldn't find on a search.

I have a small secured network in my office with a modem/router networking three computers wirelessly. I would like to add another router that would allow clients in the waiting room of my office to have internet access. Could you assist me in a setup or map? I already have a wireless Linksys router available to use as the second router.

Thank You

A:Adding Wifi Network to an Already Secured Network

Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

modem---router----your.lan.systems (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)
+---new router (new channel+ssid+no encryption)
set LAN addresses and DHCP for 192.168.10.x

add firewall rule to ALL your existing LAN systems to deny src address range= thru 10.255

Hello one and all,
I am sincerely hoping someone can assist with my little networking problem as i'm tearing my hair out now..

Here at work we have a Vigor Modem/Router hosting our connection to the world. It was originally on DHCP & the 4 computers & 2 printers found their own IP addresses without problem.

We added a Linksys router via ethernet (to a lan port not the wan) in another area of the yard. This was fine also on DHCP and connecting wirelessly from a laptop or mobile phone was a doddle.

Then our oh so wonderful IT geek decided to put the Vigor on a Static IP along with all the computers connected to it. This has some how cut off the wifi capability of the Linksys router now.

It is basically acting as a hub for two laptops and nothing else.

In simplistic terms with some detail what settings need changing on the Linksys if any?

The Vigors internal IP is
Linksys is
both on subnet

I have been advised to set the Linksys to a static IP on the Internet Connection option but what set of figures do i need for that??

Fingers crossed...
