Envy 15-J112TX Fan Broken (second time)

Q: Envy 15-J112TX Fan Broken (second time)

Ok, so this is the second **bleep** time this has occurred. I am sick of it, and not in the mood to deal with this crap. The system fan has broken for the second time now. Also because of the hinge again. Now this is a huge huge design flaw that is costing me a lot of precious time and money. I am very frustated this has happened again! I have university and work which I need this for! It is completely unacceptable that this keeps breaking as it is causing huge issues in my life. Now what am I going to do to get this repaired. How can you expect me to keep paying $200 every few months to fix this laptop. Is this some BMW car that needs expensive repair and servicing?! Just simply poor and unacceptable.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So in short, I am sick and tired of HP. Impossible to get a hold of and I have given up on them. I have been forced to source other technicians to continuously fix the problem, however there is 100% a defect in the design because the bloody left hinge keeps breaking and causing the bottom to pop off all the time! Now it has cost me the breakage of my system fan so I can't use my computer at all. I, myself, am studying to be a lawyer and my family has 3 lawyers which 2 of them have the exact same problem. We are going to be suing HP for products liability. It is completely unacceptable that I have to keep paying money for a defect in HP's design and then not be able to get a hold of HP's support. And then be forced to fork out money out of my own pocket to fix the **bleep** laptop. Do you recommend any place that can fix my computer and is there some king of secret to permanently fixing this coz I am about done with this laptop! I am not going to continue to pay $200 each time this thing breaks which is every few months. Absolutely poor from HP!

So this is the second time this has occurred in the span on a few months. The system fan has broken for the second time now and I cannot do anything. It's all because of the design flaw that causes the hinge on the left side of the laptop to come off. Now this is both a huge inconvenience and disappointment because I require this laptop to complete all my work. Now if i have to pay for the flaw that HP created in their laptop design, that is completely outrageous and I will have to just get a new laptop as this is just going to cost me as much as it does to service a European car. This is just unacceptable! Just simply and utterly poor service from HP and I can't even get a hold of any of them to ask for a repair. Even if that is completed, it's going to be weeks before they fully repair it. A lot of other people have experienced this same issue. I am not going to pay money every time this stupid laptop breaks for the EXACT SAME REASON!

Maybe someone can offer advice or help on this issue. I purchased an Envy M6 back in late 2014 - everything was fine for about 8 months. Then in June 2015 I notice the case at the hinge is separating - so I had it repaired privatelyby a repair company (had to have it done very quickly, and they did a great job on the repair!) Everything is fine again for another 6 months, then December 2105 itbreaks again!  So it's off AGAIN to be repaired.  I get it back, looks good, no issues. Another 9 months go by, and now (Oct. 2016) the case/hinge is breaking yet again! Seriously?!?!?! I really love this laptop and I depend on it daily!  Other than this issue I haven't had any otherproblems with it - but this flaw is just way too much to bear.  I can't stomach spending more moneyto repair this same problem for a thrid time. It's never been dropped, or had any other major physical damage to it, and ever since the first repair I'vealways been extar gentle with opening and closing the lid in hopes of prolonging it's life. I don't know if this issue has been resolved in newer models, but frankly I don't know that I'd ever spendthe money for another HP laptop after this experience.  Anyone else having similar issues.  Is there someone at HP that can help with my issue? Thanks!

The fan runs at full throttle and becomes really loud. However, I do not feel temperature rising. The whole PC stops working and it is getting frustrating day by day.My laptop doesnt have virus or any heating issues. My HP Envy 15 is less than two years old and has never been dropped or handled roughly, but the hinges started popping open from normal use a few months after the warranty expired.  Seeing as I am  a college student and unable to afford expensive repairs I had hoped it wouldn't get worse if treated delicately and have avoided moving the hinges as much as possible.  Unfortunately several months later, the left hinge has now completely detached from the casing, the metal inside has popped out and the hinge cover has fallen off the computer entirely leaving the wires inside the hinge exposed and the left side of the screen unattached to the base of the laptop. The right hinge is seperating as well and is splitting the side of the computer open.  It can't be closed without breaking the rest of the way and it won't stay open without being supported.  As it is, the computer is almost completely unusable and my only options are to get it repaired or replace it because I need a computer for college. It appears from this forum that this damage is the result of a very common manufacturing defect, so I'd like to know what my options are for resolving this issue.  Does anyone know what can be done about this? Thanks!

My hinge is broken on my computer.  Has been for over 6 months.  I've contacted y'all once before about this but here I am again.  I am not going to pay over 200 dollars for this to be fixed because it was made crappy.  It is an all to common problem from what I am seeing.  This computer has not been dropped and goes every where in a padded case.  I am a graduate student and the last time yall offered to fix it I couldn't afford to be without it for two weeks or afford the 200 dollars to fix a problem that is hp's problem initially.  It is way past my warranty now but when the problem began it was just a few months past my warranty.  I am sick of not getting any answers as well as not being able to get in touch with anyone from hp who can talk to me about this problem.  I've gone as long as I could with a broken computer and i'm just waiting on the day that the screen just comes completely off of the keyboard.   I've taken to a computer repair guy that basically told me it's because some plastic screws on the inside of my computer are stripped and that is why the hinge isn't working properly, why my screen is floppy and why I can't open or close my computer normally.  Before I even got to the place, he guessed that my computer was an hp because of this same problem he has seen with tons of hp's.  How do you expect loyal customers to pay for this when it was obviously not made correctly or with good parts that wo... I  just came across this topic. My HP Envy m6-1184ca, purchased November 7, 2012, also has a broken hinge. It broke in normal use a couple of months after the warranty expired. I was quoted $300 for the repair, roughly 50% of the purchase price. With no relief forthcoming I declined the repair and have been using it by propping the screen against several books. I look to HP to repair to computer at minimum or no cost to me.

Sadly, I've also joined the ranks of the HP broken hinge crowd. I purchased a refurbished HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1014nr. At that time I had litttle hesitation with the purchase due to what I thought was a great reputation for HP laptops. This laptop was handled with care and with pride. It was a great little machine, puchased to support my school classes. Of course a while after the 90 day warranty was up the first hinge popped loose. Handling the laptop thereafter with kids gloves unfortunately didnt prevent the remaining hinge from seperating as well. Some internet research quickly revealed that this is a widespread HP design defect and is very common in HP laptops. Shame on me for doing my due diligence prior to my purchase. The laptop now functions solely as a desktop with the screen propped up against the wall. It is far too fragile to consider even closing the screen and using it in the intended manner. I do think the machine is a great little laptop aside from this major design issue and with school now back in session I'm open to suggestions. Any recommendations on a cheap and effective repair?

I have had my Envy for about four years now - obviously the warranty is gone. I bought it from Best Buy. It has worked perfectly normal. I have never had an issue, the keys dont stick, it looks brand new. I take very good care of it and have been pleased with the product. Today I closed it after I was finished with it and the hinge completely broke loose and the bottom plate of the computer cracked. How could this happen with no damage and no issues? I have tried to contact HP but can not get through to anyone but a computer. Clearly this is an issue with this product and was wondering who I contact at HP for help? Thank you!

This seems to be a common problem.  I purchased the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 in April 2015 to replace the virtually identical computer which had the same hinge problem.  On the first laptop, the HP quote to fix it was exorbitant so I found someone else.  The repair did not last. So I replaced the computer and now have the same problem with the second one.  The left hand hinge is breaking away and gradually getting worse.  I have read a few posts on line giving descriptions of repair efforts.  Tried to repair the first laptop but could not get at the hinge to repair it. Any suggestions

My HP Envy 17 recently started popping the back left hinge cover. The hinge is broken off of the PLASTIC piece it screws in to and a bunch of small plastic pieces came out of the cover. This laptop has been extremely taken care of there's no reason for it to break other than a faulty design. Ofcourse this had to happen right after my warranty ran out.  I'm very dissapointed as this is an expensive laptop that shouldn't have these design flaws!

I know it's a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping someone can offer me some help. I've had my HP Envy for about 2 years and I've always been very careful with it, but last year one the hinges started to pop out. I was still under warranty and was able to have it fixed for free and everything was great. Now, just over a year later, the same hinge has broken again. I don't have the money to fix it and it's at the point where I can't open the laptop because the hinge caused the bottom of the computer to separate. This seems to be a really common problem with the HP Envy and it seems like HP should have some way to fix this (for less than the $350 I was quoted at my local store). Anybody?

I have an HP Envy M6 notebook (purchased in January 2013). I have the exact same problem that dozens of other people have had: the right hinge on my notebook has broken somehow. The casing threatens to separate from the screen if I don't hold the two together when I close the laptop. I do not believe this to have occurred due to any fault of mine, as several others have had the same issue. I am quite sure my warranty has expired, but I don't care about that. Otherwise being a fine laptop, this laptop was not built to last. THE HINGE WILL BREAK. During my tenure with this laptop, both hinges broke. Once, it happened under warranty. The second time, even though this issue happens to many people, it was out of warranty and HP would not cover the repairs. The estimated cost of the repairs were $250. My laptop broke at 8 months old and 2 years old. I have never dropped this laptop, never treated it with anything but the best care.  No laptop should break as often as this  one did.   I mentioned that I have seen many other customers with this problem on forums, reviews, etc. The representative said that they have a list of products normally recalled for said issues.  I will be posting this review everywhere.  Do not buy this laptop.  Two words. Planned. Obsolescence. Do not waste your money on a product that will break. Instead, just buy a Mac or something else.

First off, I want to say, I LOVE my HP Envy - it is the perfect laptop for me.  Sleek and light, and has all the processing power that I need.  It's been my best laptop purchase, I've been so happy with it. THAT said - the right hinge just broke.  I'm always very careful with it, but the hinges have always been tight, and have squealed whenever opened or closed.  It finally gave way when opening it.  The hinge broke away from the frame.  The problem and damage seems to be completely isolated to the hinge itself - everything else continues to function properly. I want to keep this laptop, so I took it in to be repaired.   The repair was more than I paid for the laptop.  I was gutted. So, I went online to see if I could tackle the repair myself.  I saw that MANY other HP Envy users were having the same problem from this Manufacturing Defect, and that HP was repairing the hinge. Can you please point me in the right direction to have HP perform this repair?  Even if I must pay a repair fee, since it is out of warranty.  (I would be thrilled if HP covered this repair, though - being a manufacturing defect that so many other Envy users have been affected by)Many thanks.

Hi,HP Envy M6 series laptops have this design flaw and I have repaired an M6 laptop myself. The cost of the repair is basically only the cost of the base enclosure and around 30 in my case but that was caused because the item was bought in the US and shipped to the UK. You have to tell us the product model number such as B4D17EA. Then we can search the right part number and the part itself on ebay or other online retailers. I remember that people with Envy M6 laptops were contacted by HP representatives but have no idea what the outcome was.

Less than a year after that incident, I have the same incident on the left hinge. The bottom cover is popping off because of the hinge and something is rattling inside. My laptop is a necessity and it was expensive and I treat it with care. It was not dropped or banged. It rarely leaves my desk. There is no excuse for having the same problem twice. Except now I don't have time to send it out to get it fixed and I don't have the money. How can I fix this problem that is poor design not my fault?

I have a broken hinge on the left side of  my notebook.  It has not been dropped or damaged - it appears to be a design flaw.  Of course it didn't break until it was out of warranty.  Other than this hinge problem it has been a great computer so I really don't want to replace it.  I would like to find out how to go about having it repaired.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, like many others I am working on a customers laptop where the hinge has separated from the post.  This has also caused the screen to be distorted from time to time. I cannot repair this properly myself so I was wondering what direction I should take. Thanks!

Dear HP!I`m contacting you regarding my girlfriends HP Laptop, the model number is 1178sa. She bought the laptop few years ago and the right hinge has broken causing the screen to begin to split. I saw that so many other people was contacting you guys with the same issue. Actually we cannot close the lid now, because the LCD Screen and the plastic frame is separated, the plastic is broken atually and basically it seems the whole right hinge is braking out of the top panel.  I have heard good things about the HP customer service, so I give it a try. Please help me if it is possible. Any help will be appriciated as this notebook was nearly 700 when she was purcashed it, and like nearly all the ladies, she`s taking care of her things on an extreme level, so even if I know it`s out of the warranty time, I`m sure it`s not her fault and it seems a common problem with the HP notebooks. Thank you very much in advance!Have a great day!Istvan

I'm having the same issue with My Notebook HP Envy - the hinge is broken on the keyboard side - I've not even put this laptop into full service yet and the hinge broke just opening and closing it at the office? Is there a fix for this as it seems like a design flaw.

Hi, the left hinge cracked out of nowhere, problem is I have no idea how to repair it without spending more money than my laptop is worth. I've also seen that this is a common problem among HP Envy m6 laptops. Has HP offered any kind of recall on this manufacturer defect? I bought my notebook at best buy 4 years ago so I am no longer under warranty. Please help me with this, this computer is my only one and I cannot afford for the problem to get worse.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but here's some more broken M7 hinges. We purchased this laptop in 12/2013. Recently, we noticed it wasn't closing properly.  The hinge mounts on both sides are broken. The pressed in metal, threaded mounts pulled out of the plastic base. Some of the plastic mounts are broken. An internet search revealed the problem is systemic with this laptop so we figure its a quality issue. What do we do next? The laptop is just about unusable. FYI I also sent this info into support. Thanks Fred Gasior

Hi the right hinge has broken on the laptop. It has completely come away from the plastic casing. It has never been dropped. I see from the posts that this is a common fault and would suggest a manufacturing defect... Could someone please advise me as to how to get this repaired by HP, as with any manufactured fault, it should be. Thanks.
