OpenMG Secure Module Error 1706

Q: OpenMG Secure Module Error 1706

Hi-

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 and whenever I try to open a video I get this popup that OpenMG Secure Module is trying to install itself, if you click OK an error comes up that the network destination cannot be found error 1706, same thing if you click cancel.

The OpenMG program doesn't exist in my program list, and I googled some stuff that says Sonic Stage has something to do with it and I don't have that on my computer either.

Does anyone know what to do about this? Quite annoying.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Running Windows XP on Sony Vaio notebook. Everything seems to work fine, except when I run AIM, I get this prompt to load a file called "OpenMG Secure Module.msi". And I uninstalled and reinstalled AIM and it still happens. Please let me know what I can do to begin to isolate the problem.

Thanks,

Spybot S&D denies a registry change, and Windows throws up a Wizard.Needless to say,I don't have said disc,or have even heard of it. How can I get rid of this annoyance? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and didn't have any problems, everything said it installed correctly. Today when I open up Windows Media Player I start getting this Windows Installer thing that pops up saying

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'OpenMG Secure Module.msi' in the box below."

I've tried searches on it, seems like this is a problem that was on Vista and XP before as well. Does anyone PLEASE have a solution to this?

A:OpenMG Secure Module.msi Message

Just to update, the "experts" at sony couldn't help me with this problem either. I narrowed it to when I'm in Media Player and go to look at my videos, that's when it happens. Then I narrowed it down to a certain folder that causes it to happen. I'm thinking it may have been a corrupted video file that was showing up as 0 KB, or a problem with the codec or something does that make any sense to anyone??

Since I removed that 0 KB file from my library on windows media player I have no longer been having this problem, does that make sense that it would be a problem/conflict with that video file since i narrowed it down to that?

I recently had a problem of InstallShield beginning an installation routine which repeatedly failed because it could not find the OpenMG Secure Module msi file, which I am guessing was caused by a recent Windows XP update, and search indicated this has been a recurring problem for users of Sony music software following previous updates of XP. I used to use SonicStage 4.3 for a minidisc recorder before I had a DAW setup, and still use it occasionally for field recording so I don't want to uninstall it. The odd thing was that it was e-mails sent by Facebook to notify me of FB messages that was triggering an automated installer routine that could not find the msi file for OpenMG Secure Module, which makes no sense to me, since everything I found online indicated this was being triggered by music files that use the Sony music player products. Anyway, I think I've solved the problem by downloading OpenMG Setup Update Program version 5.4.00.04020 from OpenMG Setup Update Program version 5.4.00.04020 : Sony Asia Pacific, (linked from OpenMG Setup Update Program version 5.4.00.04020 : Sony Asia Pacific ) as the install routine no longer occurs and SonicStage still loads properly after doing so, so I thought I'd pass this along, with my question: Why would e-mail messages from Facebook notifying me of messages received in Facebook trigger this installer routine when selected by me in MS Outlook?

A:OpenMG Secure Module and XP update

I suddenly have exactly the same thing happening, whenever an email from facebook is opened in Outlook, this Open MG Secure thing starts installing. And the behaviour of outlook changes as well, can't delete emails with the DEL key, but can with the menu?!

I did found out it was related to SonicStage too, but I too used it for an old MP3 player, and since it's broke I thought uninstalling it would solve this problem too, but no..

I can make a rule to auto move facebook mails to my deleted items since they're usual not very intresting anyway, but I find this behaviour strange and a little suspicious.

I have been running WindowsXP/Microsoft Office 2002 for nearly twenty months without problem.

Today, when opening individual files in Word/Excel format, the following dialogue boxes are displayed: "Preparing to install" is first displayed, followed by "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" with an incremental loading bar L to R followed by "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom which is not available. Install the Microsoft Office XP Professional Disc and click OK". The latter box offers OK/Cancel/Browse. When I click Cancel (because the subject programs are already loaded onto my computer and have been running successfully for twenty months)
I get "Error 1706. Set-up cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the nextwork or CD-Rom Drive. For other potential solutions to this problem see c:\Program Files\etc etc" When I click OK on this latest box the "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" reappears and the bar unloads from R to L.

When I attempt to reopen the file in question it often opens normally.

However I feel that this problem could represent an underlying corruption which could develop.

It is essential that I do not lose my existing files.

A minor problem which may or may not be associated with this problem (it developed some time before) is that some of my files have temporary ghost files designated by~$lastletters of fil... Read more

Now every time I turn pc on a box comes up saying windows installer is trying to install aio software, I cancel but it does not go away, error 1706 comes up, I cant even shut my pc down because of it. Is there a simple way to get rid of this.

DMBUD7 error 1706.
I had the same problem. You will have to go to the control panel and select the administrative tools icon (classic View) and then select services and applications to select and then stop windows installer. This will allow you to work on solving the problem of bad software. HP is notorious for causing this problem. uninstall the HP printer properly (again) and reinstall the Lexmark printer properly (again). Others will probably object to this, but I would search for any uninstalled vestige HP software and delete any that I found by just deleting it from the hard drive. If all of this fails, call HP's 800 support number.
After you get the problem fixed, reverse the process to restart windows installer.

That file is a non-critical (non-core) part of the Windows software and is associated with the Update Manager.

Apparently it can be removed by various agents - to obtain a copy get it here -> http://www.public.asu.edu/~hberaldi/files/ISUS.msi and save it to the location C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield.

Reboot.

That should fix the issue.

Am new to this site and posted this message on another thread but have been advised to start a fresh one as my query doesn't really relate to the original poster - sorry!!

Anyway....

Hoping that someone can help me resolve the Error 1706 message I'm getting. I think the children have tried to do something with the PC (all are pre-teen and think they know everything about computers... until it goes wrong!!!) and now every time we boot the PC we get an error message:

Any help would be great. We don't have a fax so can only assume the children have "clicked" in error! I'm not the best "techie" around so any explanation rather than a link would be useful.

Hi, and welcome to the forums, by now you probably have realised that the program that was going to speed up your computer and make it feel like new again, HAS, in fact stuffed it.

This is one of the main reasons we do not recommend you use reg cleaners, they simple are not needed and as you have experienced can and do create problems. Now tell me you didn't just rush in and did follow their suggestion:-

Quote:

Comodo Registry Cleaner displays results by category to help you decide if an entry should be removed or not. As a safeguard, a reminder lets users create a restore point before removing anything.

If you did, use the restore point.

On computer restarts, Windows Installer prepares to install PhotoGallery.
A PhotoGallery dialog box then states: "the feature you are trying to use is on a cd rom or other removable disk that is not available" "insert the PhotoGallery disk and click "ok". It also indicates 'source 1'. (I have never had this disk that it is looking for). I have browsed for PhotoGallery.msi and it is not on my computer. When I cancel this installation attempt I get " ERROR 1706. No valid source for product Photogallery. Windows installer cannot continue"
I also am unable to install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility. I begin the download and the site then directs me to uninstall the program. When I choose to continue vs cancel, it sends me right back to uninstall again (round and round we go).
Do you think this is related to Hewlett Packard all in one printer software? I do not know whose program/software 'Photogallery' belongs to. Advice is greatly appreciated.

This may be a bit long but to accurately state my problem, I need to start at the beginning. My OS is Vista 64 bit and everything was working fine until I installed Norton's Antivirus 2011 on Friday night. First problem was that some of the updates would not install so the instructions for that told me to use Norton's removal tool and then reinstall NAV2011 following the instructions. I did this and finally the updates worked. Then I tried to use Norton's PC Checkup. I had to download a file to run the tool. The file would never download all the way and would hang at 99%. I used the removal tool, removed NAV2011 again and then the file completed its download. I ran the tool and found a couple trojans and NAV2011 had found a few also. These were removed. I ran Panda Scan 2.0 I believe it is and Windows Live OneCare which found different trojans. NAV2011 was not installed while I was running the other programs. Only a few files had these trojans in them, none were in the registry or memory. My son had downloaded the files and I deleted them. I reinstalled NAV2011. I tried to download ITunes 10 and could not download it either. It would hang at 99% too and not download. I decided not to keep NAV2011 on my PC so once again removed it using the Norton's Removal Tool. At this time I am without virus protection as my year's free protection that I got with my new PC was over with. I decided to download what was free from my service provider. Try a System Restore to an earlier date.

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select a date just prior to your problem starting.
Your data ( word files, photos etc. ) will be OK you will need to reinstall any software or critical updates installed since the chosen date.

If I try to browse to locate the missing file, the window reveals it is searching for "PROPLUS.MSI".

The same happens when I try to open Excel, although I discovered that I can open excel by clicking directly on the program icon (found this way: search: excel) and not on the link. Actually the same procedure reported before (asking for PROPLUS) starts, but when I say "no" to all the prompts then excel opens properly.

I have searched a long though the Internet, as it appears that many users shared the same problem, without finding any resolving answers.

Also note: I was helped in this forum to solve a rootkit problem a few days ago (by Chemist, here). Toward the end of the procedure I checked excel, and it was running properly. Then the malfunctioning reappeared.

Anyone can solve the problem?

Please note: I don't have the original CDs (but I understood from other users it is not a sure solution)

My System: Windows Professional XP 2002 SP3

Thanks in advance for your help.

It needs that file from the CD to install or repair missing or corrupted files. You can borrow someones disk for this, or even to do a complete uninstall/re-install; just be sure you have your product key. You can get it off of the system using any of these system info tools:

System Info Tools
SIW - System Information for Windows
BelArc Advisor
SiSoftware Sandra (the System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant
Everest
Product Key only:
Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder

Can't say specifically what happened that caused this issue to occur. A window keeps popping up that says Error code 1706 No valid source could be found for InstantShare. Windows Installer can not continue. I have tried to download from support.microsoft.com/kb/290301, but that gives me an error 1500 that something else is trying to install and it can't work. When the window pops up, I hit cancel and it comes right back saying windows is configuring InstantShare, then it asks for a disc. I hit cancel and get the error code 1706. Then we repeat it all over again. Any ideas? I don't know what information is needed to correct this issue. I am running windows xp home edition version 2002. Its an Hp Pavilion a404x.
thanks

put in your HP printer disk and finish the install. you may need to click on browse and find the correct .msi.

alternatively, download the latest full software package from HP and extract. point to extracted folder to finish install.

alternatively also, uninstall your HP printer software and reinstall it.

Hello,

I keep getting the following installation attempt/error code.

I have no idea what Destinations is, never had a prog by that name. I've been googling my tail off looking for a solution with no luck.

This appears mostly when I reboot, but occasionally when shutting down other programs. There's no consistency in what actions trigger it so I haven't been able to find any common denominators.

I went to get the MSI cleanup tool, but according to MS it only deals with several different versions of Office. I haven't uninstalled office so that shouldn't be causing the problem.

Recently I did go through and uninstall quite a few old progs and games that have been on my PC forever in an attempt to reclaim some hd space, but I can't remember what all they were for the life of me.

I've cleaned my registry along with the rest of my system using a couple of different maintenance progs.

My system is running great except for this annoyance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running XP w/SP3

A:[SOLVED] Error 1706

When this happens, Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, is there any hardware device with a yellow mark? If so, this would be what it is trying to install. If Hardware isn't the problem then run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utilitiy. This was created to cleanup Office Installations, but also works on other programs installed by the Windows Installer.
