I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

So I got a new router yesterday to replace the old one, and I've been working on it for a long time. But I can't seem to figure out why there isn't any internet connection. The new WiFi Router (D-Link DR-842) Shows it is connected to the internet (green light) but in the setup page, it says disconnected. Could the PPPoE details be causing this? As far as I know everything is correctly set up except for the internet part.

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Check it out and post back if you have any issues

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

A friend is moving his business, and the new business park that he's setting up shop in does not have anyway to get any wired internet to his building, excluding a T1 line, which he can't justify the cost of.

One windows 7 machine acts as the server, primarily for Quickbooks database, and there are two other windows 7 machines that are clients, reading off said database.

He's getting one of those usb dongles for wireless internet service, for the server only (the other two computers will be tethered to a smartphone for internet for QB and windows updates periodically).

They do NOT want to share the servers wireless connection to the other machines.

My only concern was if the server will continue to try to check the LAN for internet connectivity, or will it check both network connections when one fails, or is there a setting I can tell them to change to ensure it knows to go to the wireless dongle for internet all the time, without interfering with the workstations talking to the server over the LAN to get to the database?

The setup at the old office was business class DSL, they are using a relatively new Linksys router, which had the DSL authentication information.

Thank you!

A:LAN network for server/client only, USB hotspot for server internet.

I managed to find a solution this morning, for anyone that's interested, the whole article is here: Multiple Network Connections at the Same Time on Windows | Ivan Zlatev

But the short answer is, under the advanced properties of TCP/IP v4, uncheck automatic metric, set your internet to a value of 1, and the LAN to a value of 9999.

Hi, I want to connect my PC over lan cable to my laptop which has wifi internet so that i can have internet access on my PC. Does anyone knows how to do it? Thanks

A:wifi laptop as lan server

You don't do it that way. You need to buy a "router" and connect both your laptop & PC to the ethernet ports on the router. You can then access the internet on either machine even if the other one isn't switched on, or you can access the internet on both machines at the same time.

My HP desktop computer recently had trouble connecting to wifi. It states that the network has been secured but there is still a connection problem. I troubleshooted internet connections and network adapters and they all said that the DNS (sometimes primary?) server was not responding. I have never had this issue before in my 4+ years of using this computer. I have tried everything including disabling/enabling the network, installing all the latest computer updates, and even searching up public DNS addresses, like the Google public one, and using them with Internet Protocol ver4 but to no success. I'm realky stuck on what to do to get my computer working again. Any help or words of wisdom would be greatly apreciated! Thank you! Emily

does PC connect a wifi router faster when a proxy server is configured?

A:a proxy server and a wifi router?

I'm not playing grammar Nazi - I'm just filling in some words so that I can convey back to you the way that I understood your query:
does [a] PC connect [to] a wifi router faster when a proxy server is configured?

Since W7 can act like a wireless access point as part of Internet Connection Sharing - I wondered if that was what you were asking about. Thus my need to clarify that my answer is "No" if you are talking about a computer connecting to a Wireless Access Point (which might also be a router).

The "connection process" takes place before an IP address has been assigned to (or is in use by) the computer making the connection. Proxy servers depend on IP based traffic... so, the "connection process" has already taken place before a proxy server comes into play.

Caveat: I could be wrong. It has been more than a decade since I studied this kind of stuff :-)

Have you tried Bridging the connections?

It works for me, my Windows 7 getting internet wirelessly from router, my pc is ethernet connected to the Windows 7 and i bridge the two connection and works. If you Windows 7 is LAN connected to you router/modem tri bridging the two LAN connections as i don't have two LANs to test sorry.

Btw, you won't need ICS in this case.

I have been having trouble with my wifi connection all day. The server at my work went down and when it eventually worked again, I had no connection. Someone managed to reconnect it by changing the ip address (I think) but since I have returned home I am no longer able to connect to my home wifi.

I have run an ipconfig and it tells me that the media is disconnected.

I have run a windows troubleshooter which says that windows could not detect the ip settings.

I have another computer linked to this router which works via a LAN and this works.

Help please!

Here's the situation: I have a 3com 7760 wireless AP on the trusted side of our network. It has MAC filtering enabled, and no security settings enabled. To add a device, it must be in the allowed MAC address list.

OK. There are a number of workstations around this area. We want to reduce the large number of inkjets we're using and have everyone print to a central, high capacity laser printer. However, we don't have an open ethernet jack anwhere nearby. We had the bright idea that we'd get a wireless print server, connect it to the printer, and we'd be in business! Well, that's what we hoped would happen.

The print server is a Netgear WGPS606 54MBPS wireless print server. The printer is a Lexmark T632. It's old but it still runs like a champ. The problem is, the print server hardly ever "sees" the AP. Only twice have I gotten it to recognize the AP in the list of wireless networks, and both times, even then it would not connect to it. I have verified that the AP is up and available (it comes up immediately on my laptop, no problem.) I have added the wifi MAC address of the print server to the MAC filter list on the AP. I have the print server configured with our network settings correctly and have the SSID of the AP entered correctly. I called Netgear and they sent me to 3com, saying they needed to provide compatibility/configuration details. 3com won't do anything without our paying a riduculous amount since this AP is out ... FWIW, MAC filtering is pretty anemic protection, it's very easy to spoof MAC addresses. You are fooling yourself with that level of security on the trusted side of the network.

I suggest enabling at least WPA and losing MAC filtering, see if that helps.

Here is what I'm trying to achieve.

I'm in a dorm in a country with very restricted internet so I have to use VPN and over LAN as the wifi is being pushed to its limits.

My laptop is hooked up to the ethernet.
The wifi of the laptop is unused.

I would like to use the wifi of the laptop to create a media server (I have external drives hooked up to it) so I can stream content locally to a my tablet, in the same room.

What would be the proper way of doing this? I often have VPN running over the LAN as well. Though during streaming I will not be needing the VPN.

I recently had to install a d-link dwa-542 wireless card into my desktop after a power surge killed both of my gigabit ethernet nics.

I can get the card to communicate with my dlink dgl-4300 wireless router just fine. My problem is trying to access my media server which stores everything for me.

My media server is a a Ubuntu 8.04 LTS desktop version, with samba server installed. I could access the media server when I was hardwired into the router. Now that I am wireless I can no longer access the machine.

I am running Windows 7 build 7000. I have run a ping command and it pings fine. I can see the server in the network, just unable to connect.

I am not trying to do a VNC connection to the machine, just a mapped network drive to access the files.

Any thoughts??
Edit: After a thinking of everything expect the obvious, new mac address forcing me to default network security. Went through looking at the security permissions of the folder and I had none. Changed it to full access and now I have access to my media server.

I get the above message when I am trying to connect to a wireless network through my new archos. The Archos asked me to manually type in connection information. I located the IP address, Netmask (Subnet Mask), Gateway, and DNS server by selecting 'run' from the start menu, typing in 'CMD' and typing 'ipconfig/all'.

A reply to another thread on this site 'Error! Could not locate remote server' by Shakya, suggested that the problem could be with the DNS settings. I have pinged www.google.com on my PC and the result was approx 40 ms. I have also noticed that the Archos only allows for info for one DNS server whereas the PC uses both a primary and secondary DNS server.

Am I looking in the wrong place for the connection information as I have tried different IP address's and DNS server numbers. The other IP addresses etc, I have used, come from my ISP home page which is eircom broadband. Is there a reason they differ from the info given on the 'CMD' function.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me on this matter.
Many thanks

Does a wired connection from the same router work? For both the wired and wireless connection, do the following tests and post the results here.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

OK so my server was unplugged, maliciously or not for at least two days it was unplugged. When I finally discovered it I restarted the computer and I had to restart the DNS because no one could get online through Ethernet. I also reset the WAN and the LAN. Now my wifi lynksys that has always worked shows up in the network, but devices trying to connect cannot obtain an IP address and cannot get on the internet.
In addition I noticed that my comcast modem will recognize the service and my dlink switch in LAN 2 and LAN4 ports but the LAN1 port where the wifi unit is connected will not light up and detect the wiifi. I have reset the modem and the wifi unit several times and nothing is working.
Can anyone think of anything else, or could this be a comcast issue? Oh, forgot to mention this all started right after a lightning strike on friday and the internet went down.
I tried configuring a new wifi unit but the same thing happens, so I reconnected the old wifi unit as it stands this is where I am at.

all computers have WIFI-n cards capability
• 2 computers running critical scheduling SW.

at the moment they are connecting via WIFI, however, i would like to be able the setup X-cable link between them and utilize the network traffic for the scheduling application (shared database with R/W access by both computers)

The WIFI should be for occasional internet use and grabbing documents from the MAC server, most of the traffic will be local however.

Can i somehow configure the ethernet between these 2 desktops, 1Gbit speed and force the application to use that rather then the slower WIFI ?
• 4 laptops with WIFI

connecting to shared folders according to each therapist, storing all important documents remotely with R/W access.
Mostly MS WORD documents and some internet use.

* i still need to figure out how to configure MAC mine server with properly shared folders with correct permission as some have R/W access, some only R access
The main Q is Ethernet priority traffic over WIFI, if that's possible ?

I'm confused. Here's the scenario. It's small office with a wireless network. They just installed a computer downstairs with one of those giant printer, scanner copier things.

I want to connect the printer to the existing network. The computer has a wireless card but the printer doesn't have wireless capabilities and needs to be plugged in via an ethernet cable. They want to be able to print to that printer from upstairs.

Should I get a wireless router and plug the printer into that or should I get an access point? Can you plug the printer into the access point? OR, should I get a wireless print server and plug the printer into one of the ethernet ports?

Hello guys,

I had my phone working on my home network, but after wiping it to try a new ROM, I cannot connect back to my Win8 network.

Previously I was on a Homegroup on 5 PC's in my home... all the same local user account name and NO password.

Now I get a Login Failure message on my phone which lists some things that could be at fault, but none seem right. Ive been trying to change sharing options on my main PC to see if that helps, but it doesnt.

My phone "sees" the main computer when I do a LAN server scan, but clicking on the found server the error says it may be caused by: "WiFi is off, SMB server is out of network scope, The IP is invalid, Blocked by the firewall, SMB service is off" None of which I think are correct since I have not changed anything on the pcs up till now.

Any ideas?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7. I have been using Time Warner Internet. It worked fine until yesterday. WiFi stopped working out of the blue. When I tried, wired connection works pretty well. I do not recall any significant changes to my computer while this happened. So now I can connect to the wifi hotspot but it says "No Internet Connection". When I connect the LAN wire with the WiFi router, internet works. The moment I remove it, it says No Internet Access, although computer is connected to the hotspot and signal is very well.

The drivers are being shown as up to date in device manager.

I tried following instructions given here: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Winsock-and-TCP/IP
This didn't work. Problem persists.

I have been through some threads around here. This is the ipconfig output:

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

ipconfig results are posted below. Images of Xirrus (1) and its connection test (3) are attached. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi All,
I have established a Virtual Wifi Miniport and would like to share my laptops internet via the Miniport. Whenever I connect my android phone with this access point, it works perfectly for a few minutes and then all of a sudden there is no internet on the phone. The phone remains connected to the laptop hotspot but the internet access is no more there. Now at this point if I disconnect the connection between my phone and the hotspot and then again try to reconnect back again, it wont even connect. The phone will keep on searching and shows connecting status but can never connect. I have tried all sorts of softwares connectify, virtual router, intel mywifi and even tried to create a hotspot from the cmd using netsh command. All the hotspots work in the exact same way intially works perfect but maybe after half an hour internet is gone. I have completed all the steps properly even changed the settings in the laptop adapter with interet access to allow other networks to connect but nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 7 Machine and my wireless adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless N-100 and the drivers are up to date according to windows. I know that its a problem with my laptop/OS or something because my android phone can connect and remain connected( without losing internet ) to the connectify hotspot in my wifi enabled desktop PC.I am breaking my head over this for the past 15 days even formatted my system once but no use. Please help if you can..please!

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

I've been unable to use my laptop computer fully for almost two months now. I have a feeling when I downloaded an extension for Chrome, a bad malware was attached to it. I cannot access the internet through any of my browsers: Chrome, Firefox, or even the dreaded Internet Explorer. When trying to go to a site in Chrome, the message "this page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred." In the lower left hand corner if my homepage does load and I type in a different address, the text "waiting for proxy tunnel" is visible. I've never seen that before and I'm pretty sure that I'm going through a proxy since I have Comcast as my ISP. Another message I would see after attempting to go to a website is "ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED."   On the rare occasion that I do get to a new webpage, the https is crossed out. When checking to see if it was just Chrome acting up, Firefox would show an error message 'the proxy server is refusing connections" or it wouldn't change from the homepage at all. I've done Google searches on the fixing the proxy problem and when I checked the LAN settings in the Internet Options, I'm unable to uncheck the "use a proxy server for your LAN" option (greyed out). I don't believe that was checked before, but then again, I had no need to mess with those settings. In order to install programs to help fix this (i.e. Farbar Recovery), I had to use another computer other than mine, copy the download file to a flash drive, then paste it t... Read more

Hello,"Internet Explorer is using a proxy server on this computer to connect to the Internet." Hitman Pro gives me that message when I do a scan, and is unable to repair the problem. I did all steps suggested at this link, as that person's problem was very similar to mine:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic335743.html ("internet proxy?"). None of the procedures and suggestions contained at that link have worked. Also, Symantec's "Norton Power Eraser" reports two problems: m2wshlex.dll (shell extension) and deaddiskdoctor (directory).I have now done the steps at this link:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html ("Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help").I've pasted the DDS.txt file immediately after this, and attached the Attach.txt and Ark.txt files. My laptop connects to the local network, but it has no internet access.
If I run troubleshooting it says that the DNS server isn't responding.
It is not the internets fault, because my room mate net works fine. It's not the cables fault because I tried plugging it in both of my routers and in both of my room mates, using his cable. And it doesn't work.
Wifi works fine elsewhere, but I don't have a wifi router in my dorm.
Things that I've tried:
Flushing my DNS
Adding custom DNS ports, like Googles or OpenDNS
Resetting the laptop to previous restore points
Using winsock reset
Disabling/enabling the network
Disabling Avast

I've changed nothing on my computer. The net worked fine on tuesday in my dorm. I went home and it worked fine there. Yesterday I came back to my dorm and it just stopped.

I've been having issues with my laptops wireless connection. If I connect via ethernet cable I have no issues at all, it's only when I connect wirelessly that I get a mix of slow internet with many "Server Not Found" errors. I use Firefox primarily but even on Chrome it seems to be slow, but I haven't used it enough to get the "Server not Found" using Chrome.

I have a Acer 3830tg with an Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter. I connect via a 2Wire 2700HG-S provided by my ISP (Embarq/Centurylink)

I have tried a few solutions:
1. Avast, Spybot, Malwarebytes all came up clean; CCleaner to do my routine house cleaning; Comodo is my firewall
2. Changed Firefox connection from "Use system proxy settings" to "No Proxy". I'm unsure why this was set at use system proxy settings, I've never set it this way. My desktop is set to "No Proxy" so I doubt its an ISP thing, maybe a wireless thing? Who knows. Regardless its at "No Proxy" now
3. Flushdns, reset WINSOCK, IPv4 and IPv6 to default
4. Uninstalled the Wireless Network Adapter and restarted and let Windows auto install a new one

None of these have worked. When I run ipconfig/all this is what I get:
