P69g Laptop - Hard Drive Not Installed

Q: P69g Laptop - Hard Drive Not Installed

Put the computer in sleep mode last night, heard it restart sometime in the night and woke up this morning to a "hard drive not installed error" The hard drive is a 250g ssd. I have taken it out and reseated it no avail. I'm assuming something updated or was loaded last night that is causing the problem. Any assistance is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop got really hot and froze a few days ago, no visible affects, but it is now extremely slow in starting Windows 10 and while I have gotten it open since, I've been having trouble getting to my desktop again. I was told to run diagnostics (F12 at start up) and it says "Fail PSA V4220 Error 2000:0155. Hard Drive - Not installed". Everything else came back normal. I ran the BIOS screen and the hard drive was listed. I even tried removing and making sure the hard drive looked okay. I also tried removing RAM. Laptop is latitude E6430 and I bought it refurbished last year.

A:Hard drive not installed-- laptop

Let the 10-minute test run, and then boot into the Dell diagnostic 32-bit tests and run an extended test on the drive (it'll take a couple to a few hours).

I've put my new 30GB hard drive into my notebook Compaq Presario 734RSH. I've yet to use my 3Win XP restore discs and Application /Driver Cd. Any suggestion or advice I should know before I reinstall WinXP? This time I want all Bloatware removed, how do I go about doing this in an "orderly"/safe way? Well the hard drive partition on its own. That sounds kinda stupid but I've never installed a HD before or had to reinstall an OS. As always thank you for your assistance.

My Regards,

tdb a.k.a. Trina

P.S. Do I install the Application/ Driver Cd after installing all 3 WinXP's? Is there anyway for me to download WinXP SP2 & SP3. Thanks again.

A:I have questions: Installed New Laptop Hard Drive

Hey trina,

if its your manufactures Restore Disk - the Bloatware just comes with it 9 times out of 10. It will also repartition your drive for you. Removing the bloatware can be done once it finishes installing XP. go to Add/Remove Programs ---> and select all the programs that say Compaq, Quickconnect, ISP setup. You can delete EVERYTHING safely with the exception of 1. something that says Drivers in it (video drivers, webcam etc) and Microsoft patches and programs

Dell Inspiron i3 3558 model.
It was working fine. I put it into sleep mode as usual but when I start it again it doesn't start. Is witches it off and try again . This time Dell support assist start and after initializing storage it shows "hard drive not installed". I tried diagnostic there also it show same thing. In BIOS setup,  hard drive- none.

A:Hard drive not installed error on laptop

Unplug the system and remove the base cover.  Disconnect the battery and hard drive.  Then hold the power button for 30 sec. Reconnect both and power up - check to see if the drive is recognized.
if it's not, and the system is under warranty - call Dell for a drive replacement.
If the system is out of warranty, you'll need a new 2.5" drive - solid state, hard drive or hybrid drive), 7 mm in height.

installed new hard drive in a Toshiba satellite S500-02J . Used recovery stick purchased from Toshiba. Windows installed and everything up and running, but when I go to do a windows update. I received this message: "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

Toshiba help line said it was a problem because new hard drive was not exactly the same as the old hard drive. It was a minor fix but wanted a $100 to perform the fix remotely.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

I would like to buy a new, moderately-priced computer but I do not like Windows 10 and prefer Windows 7.  Can I buy a moderately-priced, Windows 7 computer through Dell?  Also, also i would like to have a 1TB hard-drive installed with 8MB of RAM.  Any and all replies/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A:Want to Buy Dell Laptop with Windows 7 Installed along with a 1TB hard-drive and 8MB of RAM:

The only systems left with 7 as an option have sixth generation CPUs (Skylake - now about two year old technology) -- and only business models (Latitude/Precision).
All the 7th and 8th generation systems require Windows 10 -- meaning a "no" to Inspiron, XPS and Vostro models.
If it's the interface  you don't like, you can easily replace the 10 shell with Classic Shell (free).  Also realize that Windows 7 will go end of life (no further security updates) in just over two years (January 2020), so that will happen within the lifespan of the system you buy -- carefully consider whether you want to saddle 2017 hardware with a 2009-vintage operating system.

My first post here...

We just recently installed a new hard drive in our Dell laptop (old one failed). Reinstalled XP Pro and then the wireless driver from
Dell's website. Now the wireless signal is very low (one bar out of five) everywhere in the house. All other wireless laptops in the house are fine with 5 bar excellent signal strength.

Any ideas? Did we miss something?

A:Installed new laptop hard drive, now poor wireless signal

Hi silver61,

Have another look in the opening for the harddrive and make sure the wireless antenna has not been knocked or dispalced (it may or may not be in that area but is worth a look)

Installing a new harddrive should not affect the wireless what so ever.

I recently used my system image disk to restore on a new (larger) hard drive but now when I look at the hard drive from the computer view it shows my hard drive as being the same size as the old one instead of being the size of the new one. I'm not sure
I'm making much sense so I will post a picture...

Is there anyway to fix this? Does the drive really only have 286 gigs on it?

A:System Image disks installed on new hard drive show new hard drive same size as old one

You have to be logged in as Admin to perform these operations.
Go to Start, and in the Search box, type in DISK MANAGEMENT. Pick the Control Panel item "Create and format disk partitions." Once Disk Management comes up, right-click on the area of your disk and select "Extend volume..." Move it out
as far as you want, making the whole thing one drive.
If that doesn't work for you, then you can download Easeus Partition Manager Home
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm  and create a boot CD from it that will accomplish the same thing (and more, if you want to read up on it). It's a free program and works
with 32- and 64-bit Windows. I like it and use it myself.

I just installed a brand new Western Digital Hard Drive 160 gig. I partitioned it with FDISK, then formated, then did a clean install of windows XP. Everything was fine until after i finished the installation, and i tried to connect my old maxtor 20 gig so i could transfer some files over, and the computer stopped reading both hard drives. When i start it up, the computer can't boot from either drive. I've tried disconnecting each of the drives and only booting with one connected, with no luck. I also tried changing the gray strip, I can't remember what its official name is, but that didnt help either. When I go into BIOS and let it auto detect my drives, It wont recognize either of the drives.

to boot up. Here's my issue I have a HP Desk top w/ a standard 320 GB hard Drive. I bought a new Hard drive (1 TB Western Digital) so that I could move everything to the new one and use the old one as storage. I had trouble even formatting the new drive but eventually got it and successfully installed a full version of Win 7. (the old hard drive has Win Vista with Win 7 upgrade on it. When I boot up the computer I receive a message asking which WIN 7 i want to use and actually either one works. I wanted to format my old drive so that I would only have one Operating system w/ WIN 7 installed.

I tried to format it (the old drive) at the command prompt, but alas it wouldn't let me. So, I said the hell with it and opened the case and disconnected the power cord first and then I unplugged the SATA cable as well as the power cable to the hard drive. I tried to re-start the computer but now it says cannot find something, unable to read or error. So, I take it something is missing from the new WIN 7 install to my new hard drive? WOuld luv a simple fix explanation from someone waay more knowledgeable than myself. Thanks in Advance!

A:How do I get my newly installed Hard Drive (1TB) with Win 7 installed

Did you by any chance have both drives connected when you reinstalled? If so, your boot files may be on the 320 gig drive.

Try running a startup repair--you may have to run it 3 times.

I have a backup drive that we had used for for a while (WD 6000aak), previously in an external drive enclosure. I connected it today via USB to find that the computer has the driver installed, the drive appears in the Devices list, but it does not show in My Computer. In "Disk Management" the drive appears but is not assigned a drive letter. Also, all the options for the volumes are greyed out and cannot be selected - thus I cannot assign a drive letter.

I have tried this on multiple computers. I have also removed it from the enclosure and connected the drive via SATA... the result is identical. I checked the bios and the drive appears there.

The drive does spin when powering up. It is hot (even though it cannot really be accessed).

Any suggestions? Is this drive done?

A:Hard drive installed, shows in Drive Mngmnt, in Bios, but not in Comp.

Go to Disk Management, in the bottom part of the screen, right click the drive, select 'change drive letter or path', next window select add, next window select a drive letter from the drop down box. For an external drive it's best to use a letter lower in the alphabet. If disk management wants to initialize and format it, don't do it if there is data on it you don't want to lose. If no data or if you don't care, go ahead. It will show in computer when a drive letter is assigned.

I just bought a new P50. Bought a Crucial mx300 M.2 SATA SSD drive to install, bought the mounting kit and everything. Read over all the documentation including the hardware maintenance manual.  Installed the drive LABEL UP, with 6 pins on the left and 5 on the right. Turned on the laptop, instant electrical burning smell, SSD error. Turned off the laptop and found this.. There is also damage to the bay and the board.  NOW... I tried putting this drive in flipped over and went with the LABEL UP standard. I could not find ANY INFORMATION ON WHICH WAY TO INSTALL THE DRIVE... there is NOTHING about m.2 drives being asymmetrical.. no information anywhere for the p50 in regards to this. Not to mention you cannot even see the bay as you install it. Lenovo is currently refusing to cover damages by my warranty (I also purchased an extended warranty) Crucial sent me a new drive and is looking into it.  I'm waiting to hear from a repair technician, but basically customer service (who literally knew nothing about computers btw ) told me that it would not be covered because it wasn't a Lenovo drive.  Anyways, just wanted to vent and warn you all. I still can't find a definitive answer on which way to install it, or even if it was installed improperly. Lenovo simply called and told me it wouldn't be covered and they literally just said what I wrote down on the piece of paper.. they didn't even do a diagnostic or anything.. &... Read more

Take a look at how your computer sees your drives by going to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disc Management to be sure your boot order and disc labels are correct.
You have a lot of choices, but you cannot have the Dell Boot on both drives.
Most find it wise to use one drive for operating system and programs, and the second for data and operations related to the installed software.

Hello all!

Apologies if this has cropped up before, I'm just hoping someone on here can maybe help.

Basically, I have a USB External Harddrive that I was using on my desktop. I have since wanted to use this device for travelling with my laptop and decided today to plug it into my laptop which is running XP Prof SP2. When i plug it in Windows brings up the Install New Hardware wizard window which when i go through it, always fails to install the device. This had been happening recently with a few USB pendrives i had tried to use.

It seems windows doesn't like to install certain plug n play devices like it should. I have no problem with other USB devices and i know that the external hard drive and pen drives work fine as they both work on my desktop and house mates computer...

Anyone got any ideas about this one? Any way to get my hard drive working with my laptop??

I am assuming this is some sort of XP problem??

Any help appreciated!!

I could have just installed it into the PC with the origional hard disk, but the only shelf available was directly under the existing hard disk, and there was so little room between the 2 hard disks ( they actually touch each other) that I was worried this might harm them because of any extra heat and less ventalation from haveing the 2 right on top of each other. Feel free to comment on this to

A:just installed new 60 Gb hard drive, 57.2 GB now?

A 60 gig drive in disk manufacturer's gigabytes is really 55.88 gig in real gigabytes. It's the difference between calling a gigabyte 1,000,000,000 (disk makers) and 1.073.741.824 (Windows and the rest of the planet).

I can't get into CMOS or any other menu to safe boot either. the only place it will let me in, is the BIOS setup. It doesn't recognize or support the quick hard drive system test located under the TOOLS tab. I don't know where else to turn. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I just installed a new SATA HD. In Disk Management it shows Unallocated. What do I need to do to get it going. Thanks,

A:New Hard Drive Installed

In disk management choose simple volume, allocate the amount of space you want, format it, then give it a name or letter. From what I can recall.

Been meaning to ask this question for at least 2 years. Is it possible
to take a hard drive with an already installed OS, XP to even 95 and
connect it to 'another, different ' mobo/system and power up with
something resembling positive results??

My wife's computer wouldn't power up this morning (W2K). She is in the middle of an important job. It wasn't the fuse or the lead.
Can I take out her hard drive, put it in my machine as a slave and copy the information from her hard drive to mine?
Will my pc (XP) try to load her operating system, or will there be other conflicts that would prevent me doing this?
Thanks, in advance for any help or advice.

A:add 2nd hard drive with installed os

Yes, you can place the drive in another computer as a slave (make sure to change the jumper and check the one on the other drive) or in an external USB enclosure.
You may need to "take possession of " the files and folders to access them.
NO, it should not try to boot the other drive (it couldn't even if it tried since the Hardware Abstraction Layer will be invalid for your computer) if you put it in as a slave.
To be absolutely sure of this you could make sure that the slave drive is not listed in boot order in the BIOS.
