Q: Unable To Stay On Any Browser/ Unable To Install New Programs

I am having a hard time staying on any web browser (firefox/ IE/ Safari) for any significant period of time in the last week. I keep getting the message of :Blank ( browser) encountered problems and will have to be shut down. I have tried uninstalling Firefox and IE7 but now I can't even reinstall it cause the I keep getting "file corrupted" when I try downloading the program again from the originator's site. I only have safari now and can't install any program cause it reads everything as corrupted. I have used the following programs to see if I can get rid of whatever is causing this problem. SUPERAntisoftware - I keep getting Adware.TrackingCookieSpybot- isn't working anymore...not loading anymoreMalwarebytes- doesn't show anything wrongThe computer has also been running slow and restarts by itself on occassion. I don't know what happened but it keeps getting worse by the minute. Please help...911!update:used Spybot tonight and was able to scan but I noticed the scanning exceeding the files (approx 10 thou) to almost 12 though. That has never happened before. I also noticed those extra files had Zlob on them. The funny thing is that Spybot couldn't find anything wrong. Not sure if this helps.

Preferred Solution: Unable To Stay On Any Browser/ Unable To Install New Programs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, had a look through the other threads and it seems like you guys really do help ppl out so hopefully you can help me too!

I have a brand new laptop, 1 week old and I have downloaded only a handful of programs onto it since ive had it plus standard internet browsing. I did use bit torrect twice to download a program and the problems started after that.

I have since uninstalled bit torrent and installed avira anti virus, spywareblaster and online armor. I had tried numerous times to download malwarebytes and superantispyware but both have downloaded but either failed post installation (malwarebytes) or during installation (superantispyware). I tried to download AVG before Avira but that had the same problem failing mid installation saying it couldnt connect to the interent when i was clearly connected.

I have also tried to run online virus scans. All I tried failed except for f secure which located and deleted some suspect files. All the files my anti virus softwares have found and deleted have made no difference to the problem.

The problem! When using google or just clicking links I am redirecting to random pages.

Any help would be greatly apprieciated thankyou.

Attached and zipped are ark.txt and attach.txt.

I had to start a new thread because i was not able to add on to the old one. I have have been having some big problems with my PC. Everytime I click a link form a search engine, it takes me through a Homesearch Tulsa site and then imediatly to some other site trying to sell something. When I realized I had malware, I attempted to download and install something to try and take care of it. I could download things, but when i went to install them nothing really happend. I was finally able to get McAfee's freescan to run and found I had a generic.dx trogan and a FakeAlert-D trogan. After some searching, I found this site and download HJT. Same problem,, I couldn't get it installed. I finally was able to get both HJT and Malwarebytes installed and have finally run them. i will include the logs. I could really use some help with these because I cannot find my Windows CD, so i think reformatting is out of the question. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hi Tech support,

I am having trouble with my laptop. I bought a reconditioned Fujitsu Siemens laptop about three days ago, it's a Vista machine which I've never had before and since yesterday it has been refusing to install anything on the system. I can download the files but when it comes to actually running the installer nothing happens.

I've tried downloading the files to desktop or somewhere visual but the icon will flash up momentarily once the download has finished then disappear completely.

Please can you help with this problem as it's preventing me from downloading and receiving any of my e mail attachments for work and since I bought this because my new job has me on the move all over the place it is going to be completely useless unless I can get this sorted.

Many thanks

A:Unable to install any programs

Please do the following:

1 - note the time on the system clock
2 - attempt to install a program (any program will do)
3 - check in the Event Viewer to see if there are any messages relating to the attempt at installation. Under the Windows logs, check both the Application log file and the System log file (use the time that you noted in Step 1 to narrow down the amount of stuff that you've gotta search through).

Also, in the View menu, enable the "Show Analytic and Debug logs"
Then open the Applications and Services logs...Microsoft...Windows...Diagnostics-Performance logs.
Check these logs for errors (in most systems only the Operational log will be Enabled. The Diagnostic and Diagnostic-Loopback logs can be Enabled (by right clicking) if you want to.

Maybe you could give us a clue or two. Say, describe in detail exactly what happens as you try to install a specific application and at what point it hangs.

Hi. I downloaded some type of program that installed the ask toolbar and msa.exe I managed to delete the b.exe and msa.exe; however my machine is still acting up. I cannot install any program and my AVG is NOT picking up anything. Whenever I go to search the web in firefox in the google search bar websites come up when I click on the link I searched for (for example, I searched for Chipoltle and when I clicked on the link it went to some webpage that offered insurance...wtf).

I don;t want to install Norton, because I'm not confident that Norton will pick up and fix what is wrong. Can someone help me? Remember, I cannot install programs; otherwise I get an error box that says I do not have permission (but I do).

Ok, I broke down and ran Norton. It found a couple trojans and removed them; however my computer is still acting funny. I get an error when I try to execute any program. I want to run Spy Bot Search and Destroy to see if Norton missed any Malware or Spyware. The error message is a screen cap that is attached.

I'm working on a system that has Windows XP Home on it and when I try to install a spyware removal or anti-virus program that I have downloaded from the internet to the desktop or program files folder, it will not open up when I double-click on it or if I right-click and select OPEN.

However, if I right-click the program icon and click on RUN AS, it brings up a gray window asking for a user name and password to gain access to the program. It says something about security that prevents unauthorized installation of viruses and the like.

I've only seen this once before and I don't remember what I did to resolve the issue. I don't remember if it was caused by a virus or by some type of Windows setting or 3rd party software.

Also, when I try to access USER ACCOUNTS in Control Panel, the only thing that opens up is a blank white screen.

Even if I try to RUN the program as opposed to saving it to a location on the hard drive, only one of them (housecall) actually ran. The AVG and Spysweeper would not run or install at all. Nor would MS AntiSpyware.

It sounds like virus activity to me. I was repairing the PC by remote control and I won't be able to have it in my hands until tomorrow, otherwise I'm sure I would have resolved the issue by now by removing the hard drive and scanning it in another PC.

Has anyone else ever seen this before?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A:Unable to install programs

Can you access the internet?

If yes, you can do an online scan to these sites.

HouseCall - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Panda - http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
RAV AntiVirus Online - http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan
eTrust Antivirus Scanner - http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virusscan.aspx

This might remove the virus you're saying in your computer.

And also try to open the program you're saying in Safe Mode.

Go to this link to know how to get in Safe Mode.

For some reason with the new windows 10 update,
I cannot install programs anymore, that is making use of the Windows Restore option.
I have System restore disabled through this: How to Enable System Restore in Windows 10

Since I need that for Rollback.

But now that policy doesn't seem to work anymore.
I cannot install any program anymore that uses that "Set restore point" option.

Does anyone know a work around for that.

I installed three "legacy" programs which will now neither run nor uninstall.

One is Adobe Air, one is Astraslim (drivers for my elderly scanner) and one is DBXconv, which I hoped would capture all the old emails from my old XP machine.
Seems almost as if they are "half" installed, and unable to complete?

Tried everything I know to get these off - even the hitherto failsafe Revo, but I am still stuck with them.
Anyone any ideas, please?

I have recently purchased a PC with XP and Microsoft Works Suite Pre-Installed.

However, I now want to install Office XP as well as other new software. Unfortunately, whenever I insert the CD, it autoruns and invites me to install the software.

All goes well until it asked for the software key. At this point the installation program closes down without and errors. Sometimes I am able to type a few charactors in, other times it closes down as soon as the dialigue box appears.

Once it closed down, displaying the Windows Task Manager also suggests that the installtion program is not running.

Any ideas?

Hi, this is becoming a common enough problem, the reason though is not common, so I have an idea, though no certain way of preventing it .

Open a CMD prompt as administrator (go to start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator") at the prompt type:-

net localgroup administrators <my_user> /add
my user is Paul so for me the command is:-
net localgroup administrators Paul /add

press enter then type:-

press enter then type:

press enter then type:

I'm windows Vista ultimate user, and yesterday I got a strange error that I tried so hard to fix it but I couldn't, I used Google search but I couldn't find any solution. I hope that someone here will help me to fix it, instead of formatting.

ShellExecuteEx failed; code 1155
No application is associated with the specified file for this operation

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.

Do you get this error when you double click on any executable (.exe) files or just setup.exe? From your post it sounds like it is just installers. If so I would download and install the most current Windows Installer Package from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/d...displaylang=en.

I can honestly say I have some knowledge when it comes to computers and usually I solve it when something is wrong, but I can't figure this one out. I don't know what to do or what's wrong basically. A few days ago I was supposed to be updating a few of the programs I have, the first being Windows Live Messenger. It wasn't working so I thought they wanted us to go to the new one. I go to do that and it was installing until I got this: "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.

Please close all other programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643"

So I go to un-install the old one (which I don't it even did) and I tried again, and again the same thing. I've also tried un-installing it from Smarty Un-installer 2009, did it and tried to install it again, and that didn't even work. I haven't tried again since.

That same day I tried updating iTunes. That failed. Safari didn't update neither did iTunes, but the iPhone Configuration Utility thing did (I just noticed). I tried going the website and downloading from there, I thought it was going to install, but it didn't give a message saying it could not access %APPDATA%\. This one didn't un-install, because iTunes is still accessable on the other accounts.

I'm completing a scan now for any viruses (I don't think any will show up), I also tried installing Malwarebytes to do a scan for that (said the same thing: couldn't access %APP... Read more

To help with the problem determination please download and run Speccy.
After running it, click File -> Publish snapshot... Copy and paste the link it gives you into your next post.
Then download MiniToolBox and run it with the following boxes checked:
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions, and Memory size
List Minidump files
Good luck.

I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 7 and I was trying to install the new version of iTunes but it told me that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.". I went to the support at iTunes (Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows), and I tried taking the steps at the bottom of the page, since none of the topics listed looked like what I was looking for. I had some problems emptying my Temp directory (Step 1), I figured it was because I run skype, so I deleted the iTunes related files, and restarted. I ran into problems with actually uninstalling iTunes, I couldn't uninstall the Apple Software Update, for the same reason I couldn't install iTunes in the first place. I googled it, and I found a link to the Installation Package for Windows, and I tried downloading it but it said something like "The update is not relevant to your computer", not exactly that, but close to it. So then I tried running FixCleaner, as I read online that it would repair the Windows Installer, so I ran it, it said it fixed a ton of stuff, and I tried installing iTunes again and it still didn't work. I have no idea what to do now and I'm tired of trying to figure it out. Oh, and I found that installing iTunes didn't work last Tuesday, the 27th. I haven't been able to deal with it until now because I was away. So please, if someone could help,... Read more

Hello BDGNoLa,

It looks like you already tried System Restore a couple of times. Were they successfully completed and if so, have you tried to go back a bit further?

What happens when you try to install or uninstall a program?

Do you recall Norton alerting you to any malware before this happened?

Hi all, great looking site!

A good friend of mine asked me to pop round and hell him install some software that he has been struggling with.

Currently, he uses only Windows firewall and Sunbelt's Counterspy but the license is close to running out. I advised him that he needs something a little more substantial (firewall, antivirus and spyware protection), so he went out and bought Norton IS 2009.

As I said, he struggled to remove Counterspy and install NIS. I tried too (and other IS trial programs) and each time was met with the 'Another installer is currently running. Please wait for it to complete and try again.' message.

I tried closing almost every program/service and was met with the dreaded message time and time again.

I ran Hijackthis and was given the log below. Any ideas?

Many thanks

I have a shiny new install of XP professional. I reformatted the drive because I was having all kinds of issues. I installed SP3 as an update, and it tore up the hard disk pretty badly, so I bought a copy of XP Pro that had SP3 with it, so it would install all as one.

it installed like a dream. The SP3 as an update crashed about four times during install.

At any rate, I was reinstalling my software, and such, when it wanted to update. so I stopped installing my software, and let it login to Microsoft and get the files it wanted. It downloaded, and installed 64 updates.

Now, I can't install my software. It seems that all of a sudden, I am unable to install any Adobe software. Photo shop, Acrobat, nothing. Strike that, I was able to install Dream weaver. What it does is nothing. I click on setup, and I see the working icon for about 10 seconds, the CD whirs, and the hard disk light flashes a few times, then nothing. When I call up task manager, it shows setup.exe as running. It's acting like a TSR. I have three other XP SP3 systems, and the installer comes up on all three.

Another problem I am having is it keeps disconnecting my wireless connection from the router every 10 minutes, and the only way to get a connection back is to repair it. Granted it only takes a few seconds, but it can't do it on it's own, it just says unable to connect to JimBo (my SSID, Imagine that ). When I right click the wireless icon,. and select repair, three seconds later,... Read more

Good afternoon. Yesterday, I downloaded an update for my husband's HP printer onto his computer. At the same time, it downloaded BING, which we have never used. After that, we noticed his firewall was off, and we were unable to get it turned back on. Also, we cannot download any security. And his home page has changed. We are unable to change it back. We have Microsoft security essentials which runs regularly. In doing some research, it appears his browser has been hijacked.

Can someone please help me get his computer UN-hijacked? http://www.sevenforums.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

A:IE10 browser hijacked. Unable to load firewall or download programs.

Here are some things you might want to try:
1. Run a full scan on Security Essentials? If so, did you find any viruses?
2. Go to Start>Run>msconfig and go to the startup tab and make sure that only the items that are important (eg. Windows 7, Intel Software, Microsoft Security Essentials) items are selected; you may also be able to find the item if it has made a shortcut here.
3. Try going into safe mode and see if anything changes.
4. What you may also want to do is to get Malwarebytes and perform a scan: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

It looks to me like you've got a firewall blocking outgoing access there (possibly as far as blocking all outgoing connections).

Hello, I've been having a few issues with my computer lately, and as this forum has often saved my hide a few times in the past, I figured I'd come back and beg for some more mercy.
First off, the operating system I'm running is Windows Vista Home Premium. This computer was given to me by a friend a few years back, and though not the best computer, it does MOST of what I need it to. After receiving the computer, I did a factory reset, and have had no problems for well over a year, until a day or two ago.
Now for the problems! My mother was on the computer the other day, saying she took a picture and was trying to put it on the computer to show me. She then proceeded to tell me that something was installed, and after trying to decipher a computer illiterate person's description of what had happened, I eventually just went about my day. A few hours later, while playing a game online, I got a BSOD saying something like "BAD_POOL_blahblah", can't remember the last part. I chalked that up to a hardware failure, and went back on the computer and resumed what I was doing.
Later that day, I tried to install CCleaner to help tidy some things up, and when I attempted to install the .EXE, nothing happened. I tried again, and again, the same thing. And by nothing happened, I mean I double-clicked the .EXE, and literally NOTHING HAPPENED AT ALL. I also downloaded another .EXE for uTorrent, and was met with the same problem.
About an hour ago, I was attempting t... Read more

]Hi - In the past couple of weeks I have been having a problem accessing certain programs. I am running Vista.
I cannot open itunes or any assosiated programs and am also having problems accessing any microsoft programs (word, etc). This is a problem in both start up bar and desk top icons. The following appears when I try to access them
"Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install."

I have tried to uninstall programs in control panel but the following message appears -
"Another program is being installed, please wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this software again"

I am at a lose as what to do next. I was advised and have tried to do a windows install clean up but it comes up with "error 1500" when I try to download the program

I am not totally up on computer speak an so do not understand what these errors are.

Any help would be most appreciated. I am most worried that I may loose all of the photos I have stored on my machine which would be awful!
Kind Regards in anticipation

The computer will not allow me to install or uninstall programs. When I try to install a program, it says: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)."
(Therefore I was unable to install and run Defogger, DDS and Gmer so the diagnostics are not attached).
When I try to uninstall a program, it restarts Windows Explorer.
The time on the computer has also been changing, and when I try to edit the time settings, it comes up with the same error message. I cannot access other settings, including internet options, either.
Windows 7.
Thanks and hope you can help.
