Q: play all selected songs in windows media center

okay, I did a search in WMC and it found all the songs from a certain artist.
now, how do I get WMC to play them all?
I mean, to add them all into the playing list or whatever.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased a new Cowon S9 Portable Media Player, and the software provided for me to update it with new music (which was JetAudio) will not correctly play MP3 files that have been burnt onto the system from a CD. The CD's are obviously legit and will play perfectly in iTunes and work on an iPod no problem. But the case is for JetAudio and Windows Media Player the files do not even show up in the player library and if dragged and dropped straight into the file path of the Cowon MP3 player's memory, this has the same result and no mp3 files will show. Does anyone know why this may be?

I d/l some songs that were playing just fine on WMP for a while until I tried to install Yahoo Music Engine. YME didn't completely install because it encountered some sort of problem. Now when I try to play them on WMP, it says it needs a security update, but then encounters error code 800C2F78. The Microsoft Web site only says it's investigating the problem, it's not on it's list of common error codes. We're talking about a lot of songs that I paid a buck apiece for. The songs that I ripped from CDs play just fine, it's only the ones I d/l.

I have Windows Vista. I synced cds onto my flash drive from a different computer so I could put them in my windows media player on this computer. When I try to play these certain songs, it says I can't play them. Error code C00D1197. It says that I can download a license migration to play the protected files, but then it says I have to download Microsoft® Windows Media Services" plug-ins for my Netscape toolbar, whatever that means! How do I do it, is it necessary, is it free? I think it would probably just be easier to rip the CD again, I guess. Please help me out!

I got my sis an advent 7211 laptop for Christmas and I have been setting it up for her ...it has a x200 ati integrated gpu but that's all she'll need as she mostly does work and multimedia stuff on it.

It's running Vista home premium and has only the original codec and ffdshow installed on it.

Anyway the problem is it will play files in WMP11 fine but when I try to play them in windows media center I get black dots all over any white parts of the video.

Anyone got a clue thanks?

I know she could just play the files in wmp11 but she loves the media center and would just like to solve it.

Please help!! First time on a forum to fix my pc, a bit of a novice!
I was cleaning up pc removing programs rarely used, deleted tracks i never listen to from media player and also ran a defragment. My media player disappeared but could be accessed through “my music” in my documents clicking on a track opened the media player. During my clean-up I removed restore points but one from the day before remained, I restored and the media player has reappeared but still will not play all the tracks in my library. I can however play tracks that wont play in media player by going to “my music” (the track then opens and plays in media player even though it has just refused to play in media player) If I then select another track in media player the message “ A number of queued files cannot be played. To find information about the problem, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the icon next to each file in the List pane.” When I click on the blue icon it asks me if I want to delete missing track. I know the all tracks are still on my computer (in my music file) please help me to get my media player going. I am on xp. Thanks in advance

Just installed Windows Media Center on an AMD Phenom II X6 system with an LED 1920 x 1080 display. Whenever I put in a movie to play, it gives me the message Cannot Play DVD. The DVD may be in use by another program... The DVD is NOT in use by another program but the screen switches to a lower resolution which I think is the problem. I don't know how to prevent it from switching. I ran the WMC configuration utility and set it to the correct resolution but still the same thing. As soon as I exit, it switches back to the higher res. I also installed VLC which works fine but I want to get WMC to work also. Other posts suggest installing some Codecs, however, I installed the same package on a different system (different motherboard, CPU and video card) and it worked fine so I'm assuming the included Codecs are correct. Still another post suggests update the video driver. It is an integrated ATI Radeon 3000 chip and when I go to the ATI website, none are listed. Doing a search for the driver from Device Manager says that I have the latest driver from Microsoft.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I apologize - I am in a time crunch for a party this weekend, and need help ASAP

I have Vista Ultimate x64, and connect to media center via a DLink DSM-320. I got it connected just fine, and I can see all my media files on the extender just fine, and it plays with no problem.

My issue is this - I have tons of music files on the PC, and many of them are repeated in several folders (don't ask - I need to do some housekeeping!). With the old XP, I used to be able to select a folder to play music from (it was TVersity or somesuch, came with the 320). When I configured Media Center, I told it to "share music, movies, and pictures", but it didn't give me the option to select which music folders to share.

So, now when I fire up the 320 in the game room, I end up with a sequential selection of all the mp3 files in my Music folder, which means there are sometimes 3 or 4 of the same tune queued up to play.

How can I select just a playlist or folder to queue up and play?

Sorry so verbose - thanks for any help!

Hi, I fairly new to this site, have only posted one thread before, but got a working solution fast. So to follow up on that success, here I go again...

I have a HTPC with Windows 7 on, but I can't play DVD's, which to be honest is a major downside, the WAF is not high on this one

The funny thing is, that I gan get it to play DVD's, if I first plays the DVD through VLC Player.

It I don't do that, 7MC just refuses to play the DVD's with the following error (translate from danish and as I recall it from the memory):

"Media Center can't play the DVD. Please restart Media Center"

Obviously it doesn't help to restart Media Center, so up until now, tha only solution I have found is to play the DVD with VLC first and then start 7MC afterwards. The problem reoccurs every time the HTPC have been restarted.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Hi, I'll try this again, as I didn't get a solution to a question I asked a while ago.

Basicly Media Center or Media Player can't play DVDs after a restart, unless I pre-play the movie in VLC.

Now I have tried to reinstall Windows 7, so as off now it stands only with Windows 7 + updates, antivirus and soundcard driver. I even haven't installed the driver for that of my tunercards, that isn't recognized by Windows. So it should be as clean as it can be, but it still can't play DVDs.

What I can't understand is, that on my work-pc, allso with Windows 7, there isn't any problem with playing DVDs in Media Center.

I sincerly hope, that someone can help my with this problem, as it is getting extremly annoying

A:Windows 7 Media Center can't play DVDs

The funny thing is, that if I rip the dvd to my harddrive, then I can play the movie fine, from Media Center.

So it is just, when I have a dvd-disc I can't play the movie.

I have a Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor running at stock 3.0 GHZ, 4GB RAM, a GTX295 and Vista Home Premium SP1, all drivers updated and my problem is that when I try to play ANY video in Windows Media Center (even the ones that Vista ships with), I get a black screen, but can hear the audio.

All other video players (Windows Media player, Real player, itunes etc.) on my PC play videos without a problem, so I doubt it is a general codec issue.

I remember being able to watch the introductory video (the one with the family in front of a tv where things like contrast and brightness are explained) about half a month ago when I first configured Windows Media Center.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro (32-bit) on a Lenovo ThinkPad T60 laptop. I installed the Windows Media Center Pack today from the Microsoft promotion that allows you to get it for free until January. When I try to play a DVD through Windows Media Center, I get this error message:

"Cannot Play DVD
The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD."

The DVD player in my laptop is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-826 ATA Device. There are no applications open other than Windows Media Center. The resolution for the player is set to my current, and recommended, screen resolution (1400 x 1050). The DVDs that I'm using aren't ripped (I bought them). My DVD player is set to the proper region for the United States (region 1). The driver for the DVD player is up-to-date. I also have VLC Media Player on my laptop and it plays DVDs just fine, so I'm guessing that the problem is with Windows Media Center, not my DVD player.

I'm out of ideas on what to do.

A:Windows Media Center Unable to Play DVDs

DVD works for me in WMC or any other media player I have. Did you try installing a codec pack like K-Lite? Does the DVD work in any other media player for you such as Windows Media Player?

The reason VLC works for you is because VLC has the codecs built into it. However, I find it better to have codecs installed systemwide so that any media player will work (since they all can access the same codecs).

Sure, if you want to play everything through VLC, then you don't need to worry. But by installing codecs systemwide, no matter what program you happen to be using, the movie/video will work.

Netflix logo appeared in Windows Media Center probably after Vista Ultimate SP2 update a while ago. Was able to watch films from Netflix via WMC and remote contol on computer. Then it just stopped playing via WMC. Netflix is still there, my login, film queue, etc. When I choose a film to stream to WMC (click PLAY), Media Center crashes and sometimes restarts or I get a solution from Microsoft that is not relevant. Microsoft attempted a fix remotely for 3 days but made things worse which I had to remedy with little experience. Experts?

No problem playing via Silverlight online. I know this may be an issue between Netflix and Microsoft, or an Autoupdate. Also, heard about a registry string having too many characters relating to WMC. Not proficient to go into registry and have a look even if I back up first. Don't really know what to look for in registry. If anyone here can help, would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. My problem is that I am unable to play my MPEG-4 packaged videos in Windows Media Center in Windows Vista Ultimate. I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed on a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz dual core CPU. I got this set up specifically to play my DVD’s which I transcoded to H.264 using Nero recode (Nero Digital AVC – HDTV profile) .
I can see the thumbnails and times, but when I try to play them I get either a codec missing error or usually they just play green interlaced garbage.
I tried a bunch of suggestions, but most seem to not all be applicable to the 64-bit Vista (surprise, surprise). I have installed ffdshow 64 bit (ffdshow64-rev2546.exe ), which seemed to help, and I have tweaked the registry of course to recognize the file extentions. By the way, everything plays fine in VLC and even play fine in WMP 11, JUST not in Windows Media Center!

I have an HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop PC (model m8300f) which has a built-in tv tuner and composite inputs on the front.
It is running Vista Home Premium

I have plugged the xbox into the composite inputs and am trying to get it to work in Windows Media Center.

When I try setting up the tv signal (I have tried but auto and manual setup), it detects one tuner (xbox) but keeps wanting to set it up as either a cable box or satellite receiver. I asks me to pick out the brand name of the set top box from a list and of course the xbox is not in the list.
When I select "not listed" the only option is to cancel the setup.

Has anyone had experience in getting a game console working htis way?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Please run the player that included these decoders in order to activate the product."

I have no idea what the computer wants..... I don't have any player (product) installed except Media Player 10 and Media Center.... What is there to run in order to activate the decoders.... what decoders is it referring to?

I have downloaded and installed a codex pack for XP. but that didn't help at all.

I originally posted this as a reply to a thread elsewhere, but the forum noted the thread was 266 days old and suggested I start a new one.

I have a new vista home premium 64bit PC. AVI files will play in WMP but not in Media Center. I've tried the ffdshow with no luck. I installed GSpot, and it indicates the files are AVI V2.0 format, it uses the XviD codec to decode, and that the correct codec is installed. These files played fine on my XP based media center PC in the Media Center application. I am not using any extendors, I am simply trying to get the files to play on my PC in Media Center.

I've contacted technical support for my PC (just got it yesterday), and "Charles" first said Windows doesn't play AVI files. I know this to be false from my XP Media Center experience, and from what Chris Lanier's guide has to say on the matter: "Windows supports playback of AVI files". If anyone else has encountered and solved this problem, I'd love to hear about it.

A:AVI files play in WMP but not Media Center

Problem sovled via the Chris Lanier Blog article. Guide to Codecs in Vista Media Center - Chris Lanier's Blog

Media center is now playing the AVI files.

The problem was based in the 64bit vs 32bit arena. In a 64bit machine, Media Center needs its own personal set of 64bit codecs. Installing the 64bit build of the ffdshow app worked like a charm. Didn't even have to mess with any settings.

The link for the download page is Index of /mirror/ffdshow

I used the file dated July 6, 2007, and can only speak to its success.

"Since Windows Vista is available in 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) this throws another wretch into the problem. Vista Media Center is a native 64-bit application, so it must have 64-bit decoders. There is a 64-bit build of ffdshow at this website. I have no idea how well it works, use of Vista x64 is not advised by me. I would strongly suggest using x86 until drivers and codec mature. It has taken a long time to get playback on x86 right, x64 is going to have several speed bumps along the way." -Chris Lanier

A:Can't play MKV files in media center

Norm1320I Know your problem and maybe this is the only solution for:We talking about Windows 7, because its more different that Vista, ok?, In Windows 7 M2TS and mp4 is handled by the OS using Windows Media Fondation (WMF) by the native players,WMF is the successor to Directshow.1- If you are using any code pack you need to UNISTALL ALL. W 7 NOT need especial codes to play a lot files, and is very important do NOT modify the registry for. A lot of this codes make changes in registry to play files.2-Test this: for default W 7 (IN a clean instalation) can play MT2S files very fine, after install codes pack, this files play corrupts. I´m sorry, maybe UNISTALLING the code pack is not solution: SO is corrupt, becuase a lot codes pack in the net, DESTROY THE SO. You need to REINSTALL the SO. FFDSHOW is a DS filter and ITS NOT COMPATIBLE 100% WITH W7. 3-If you have a CLEAN instalation of W7 the only code to see MKV (and other files) is Win7codecs for Shark007.net. The only pack of codes with 100% full working in W7. I test a lot of codes.4-The only problem, depending of your version of W7, you cannot use outside subtiltes, Microsoft is working about it, wait. If you have 64 bits version you need to install the 64bits Add-on. Im using WVista 64B and W764 (official beta built 7000) in a dual boot machine and play FINE MKV files in Media Center and WMP 32 & 64 bits.

Hi there

If this is FREEVIEW (Digital Terrestial TV) all the channels (or at least a lot of them) changed YESTERDAY Wed 03 Sept.

You might want to re-load / re-install and start the whole Channel tuning stuff again . For instance SKY NEWS is now on I think Channel 132 and not 82 like it used to be.

Analog TV I don't think is available any more regions in the UK (and in a lot of Europe too) so if you were using that it might have been switched off in your region recently - I'm sure there aren't any Analog TV regions in UK any more.

Another suggestion - if you want BBC TV why not use on the Internet the BBC iPlayer - if your broadband is fine you can get it at HD quality too.

Hello, to anyone that may be able to help me, I'm having a bit of a kerfuffle.

Yesterday I decided to hook my laptop up to my Xbox 360 and stream the music/video etc.

But, later on in the day I tried to play music on my iTunes and it said I didn't have permission to access the folder.
The same happened with media player, then, if that wasn't bad enough, my entire 'My Documents' was in-accessible.

I did a System Restore for a couple of weeks back and I have now regained access to 'My Documents'.
I've also made a duplicate of the iTunes (iTunes Library.itl) folder because it was in-accessible, it is now accessible, I see all my music and everything there, but I'm unable to play anything, same with Media Player. I'm lost, I have no idea what's wrong, but it did only occur yesterday, seemed to happen after I used Media Center.
If it helps, this didn't happen yesterday, but I've had this error for quite some time and have been unsure as to what caused it: "This application failed to start because sqlite3.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

If anyone can give me any kind of advice, it would be much appreciated, thank you.

A:Unable to access or play music since using Media Center

Just a quick note to add:
I did re-gain access to 'My Documents' but I can't view/open anything, anywhere!
I get "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" with everything I try to open, I'm really lost..

I've been using Media Center for XP and then Vista for a few months. Due to a random pause issue that I can't track down, I've built another MCE-HTPC and installed Vista x64.

The install of Vista and hardware went about as smooth as it can get. BUT... now that I've installed my codecs and such, MCE won't play any videos. These are videos that 32-bit XP MCE and Vista MCE had no issues playing before.

In fact I can even load Windows Media Player and it will play the same videos with out a problem. But once I load MCE, I get the "can not locate codec" and it refuses to play.

Since I've not had problems in the past... I is there a cache or database of some kind that Vista32 might have left that now Vista64 is trying to read and it's now unable to load the videos?... also, I did update my codecs to newer versions as well... is it possible that Vista32 had "named" codecs list and now Vista64 is trying to find the same codec name... only it's changed?

I'm a little lost on this one.... so continue my VistaMCE issues.

I just want it to work.

Well in my experience, Codec packs are more trouble than they are worth. I would totally uninstall any codec packs you have. MediaCenter downloads the codecs it needs automatically. It sounds to me like the codecs are fighting each other for who is gonna do the job, so to speak, so in fact they are cancelling each other out and leaving you with nothing.
Get rid of the packs is the short answer. Use "GomPlayer" as your Video player. It has inbuilt codecs and is free and totally brilliant with tons of setup options. I now use it all the time and never look back.
If you still wanna use MCE then deffo get rid of the codec packs.

I've been attempting to play a DVD for the last hour or so using either Media Player 10 or Media Center 2005 on my XP OS.

I need an MPEG-2 codec to play them, since everything else I've tried has failed. I rollbacked to 10 from 11, I have K-Lite Codec Pack and I've been told I need to restart my DVD drive, howeverthehell I do that.

Can anyone give me much needed advice please?

Thanks in advance,

A:Media Player 10/Center refuses to play DVDs?

It didn't work with the K-Lite codec package installed?

Well anyways...have you tried playing them with other software on the machine?

Media Center's control bars (app bar at top and play/control bar at bottom) do not fade away during play of recorded TV or DVD movies. They used to disappear once the show started playing unless I moved the mouse. I've been through the settings available and cannot figure out why this is happening. I cannot remember when it first started, but no more than a month and probably less. I have not made any changes to MC settings. There have not been any new updates specific to MC since 1/12/2012. Is it possible that a .NET Framework update on 2/14/2010 (KB2633880) could have some effect? There were also some Security updates. I've searched MS Knowledge base, but couldn't find anything.

I specifically record some art painting shows where the upper control bar staying on instead of fading away is obstructive - my LCD died 2 months ago and I'm having to watch on my back-up CRT which has really cramped my viewing anyway . Any help will be greatly appreciated!
