Reset laptop, now laptop isn't working

Q: Reset laptop, now laptop isn't working

PLEASE HELP: A few days ago my laptop wasn't working very well. I was exploring my options and decided to reset it. I tried this and it told me there was an issue resetting it, so I tried resetting it again. Now the laptop will not fully turn on. It turns on and displays the hp logo then the screen goes blank. After a few minutes the hp logo displays again. All the function keys work but I can't find a solution. Could it just be the fan? Please help, my laptop is my life. The laptop is an HP Stream Model: 11-r010nr

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try holding the Esc key down while booting and the press F11 to run the system recovery. If this does not work, you might have to boot from a recovery USB to restore the laptop. If you did not create one, you can order one from HP. If this has Windows 10 on it, you can also do a fresh install using the downloadable installation media from Microsoft.

Dear HP, My laptop will not turn on anymore. Nothing happens. I tried the hard reset, by unplugging everything. Also battery and power cord. pressed on/off button for 30 seconds. When I put in the power cord. The led next to it, is not burning. Dear HP, do you have a suggestion what I can do to fix this problem? With kind regards,Richard

A:Laptop wil not turn on anymore. Hard reset is not working

If the power jack LED is not on we can figure it may be the power supply. It might not be putting out power. Just about any electronics shop can test its power output. How old is the unit? Still under warranty?

My laptop was running slow so I thought I would do a hard reset since I didn't have any important files on it. So I reset it and I got a blue screen error, then a listing screen with a popup box saying there was an error or my computer restarted and I should press OK to install. I found a solution online to get past the popup box, I don't remember what it was though, but now my laptop is stuck in a state of constant reboot. It goes like this:Blue HP Logo with loading circle,Black screen,Blue HP Logo,Installing and configuring Windows install screen that doesn't move past 64%,And then black screen. This process constantly repeats. Please help.

I used the media profile to download Windows 10 to a USB and everything worked fine but now there's another problem. My laptop was working after reinstalling Windows, but then I shut my laptop over and went away for ten minutes or so and I've came back to a black screen with no display at all. The white LED is on so my laptop is on. It has around 40% charge in it as of typing this. The screen is unresponsive. Please help again but thank you for helping me fix the first issue.

A:Re: I hard reset my laptop, error occurred and now my laptop...

Hi @kirsty_mcq17, Thanks for the update on your situation. I understand that you are now having issues with the display being blank and the system unresponsive. Have you tried doing a hard reset since the system stopped responding? If the system will not boot into Windows normally, let me know if you get any errors. You can also try using Safe mode. Once you are able to log back in, please make sure you download the latest HP drivers and Windows Updates. From what you described, it sounds like the system may have gone into sleep or hibernate mode. This document will take you through troubleshooting possible issues with those features. If you feel this post has answered your question, take a moment to click Accept as Solution. Thanks!

I recently purchased an ASUS A555DG-EHFX to take over for my wife's Win7 ASUS K50IJ-BBZ5 (both are 64-bit).

Obviously getting Windows 10 up and running out of the box was a breeze. Configuring WLAN connectivity was also easy, even though I have a hidden SSID and access control on devices on the router. Even getting Office up and running was fine - just uninstalled from the old computer, downloaded an installer file from Microsoft, using the product key, and that was fine.

The one hiccup has been getting my files and configuration settings (such as browser history and passwords and cookies) from the old computer to the new.

I have read that one can run Windows Easy Transfer on a Win7 machine, which I did (to an external HD), then copy the migwiz and migration folders from the system32 subfolder of the Win7 machine, to somewhere on the new machine, and run the migwiz.exe program from the migwiz folder.

This appeared to "know what it was doing" - it identified the user profiles captured in the transfer data, and allowed me to select which ones to transfer.

But when the process completed, I can't find any of the files from the Win7 laptop, and I can't see any of the profiles and configurations - the files themselves, or evidence that the computer is accessing them.

Also, the old laptop had a C/D HD partition, as does this, and it was pretty much program files on C and data (.docx and .xlsx files, etc.) on the D partition.

After running migwiz, the new computer ... Read more

Have been having this problem for a while now.

Every so often, the headhphone jack on my laptop just stops working after hours and hours of the laptop being on.

The built-in speakers of the laptop work fine. What happens is that while the computer is in use (after some random amount of time), any hardware plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop will not playback sound. This includes headphones, speakers and the like. The sound device manager in control panel shows sound being output, and if the headphones/speakers are disconnected, the audio plays fine on the built-in speakers on the laptop.

I haven't been able to figure out what exactly causes this problem. I have tried resinstalling the driver several times. I am 100% sure it isn't the headphones of the speakers that I use as I use these speakers and headphones on many other devices (phone, tablet etc.)

The only way that this issue gets fixed is if the computer is shut down and then rebooted (a restart doesn't work, the computer has to literally lose power for the problem to be fixed).

It seems very intermittent and I'm not sure how to approach this problem

Any ideas?

A:Headphone Jack on Laptop Stops Working Until Laptop is Powered Off

One idea would be a look the power plan in use. If you are running with the default Balanced power plan you may be seeing that nterfere by conserving battery power temporarily turning the audio off being a constant drain. Another thought could be a result of the onboard audio chip itself getting too warm where the hardware protection circuit will then come in and deactivate all sound. That is usually seen as far as the cpu temp as well as other major components. The audio being onboard would also be monitored by the bios not so much by Windows.

The other possible cause of losing sound would be the headphone jack or the board end having a cold solder point getting warm and expanding just enough to break the connection until cooled off. The complete shutdown of power would tend to suggest a temp or regulation issue where either the power plan or temp monitoring would have to be watched. And one more thing would be setting the laptop on a fan cooled stand or effective notebook cooling pad to draw heat away from the unit if you are not already using one. Laptops are known to get quite warm with extended use since everything is packed into a tight space with the typical serious lack of air flow unlike the usual desktop with front, rear, and side or top case fans in use if not water cooled.

You have some things to consider in the list of things there. Increased overall cooling, not planning to use the laptop for extended periods of time which can allow for something to overheat i... Read more

I have been having problems keeping my touchpad and keyboard functioning after taking my laptop apart. In the first instance, my touchpad stopped working a couple weeks after the dissection. I took the computer back apart, and re-secured the touch pad jack in the motherboard connector, and it worked again.

The second instance, which I havent been able to solve, is the keyboard keys. Certain keys will stop working after some short time after taking apart the computer, usually a couple hours to a couple days.

I have tried readjusting the keyboard jack in the motherboard connector, also have tried turning off the computer and taking out the battery for a while.

Please help

This laptop has been owned for a few years, I'm not quite sure how many since it isn't mine. My phone was propped next to the laptop and fell on it, and the screen when dark. Tried restarting it but the screen still didn't work, this went on for around a day. Eventually when I tried to restart it, the laptop would begin to boot but shut down two or three seconds into a power up. Tried a hard reset, but it did nothing. After the hard reset the computer started, but froze on the Windows start up screen. Afterwards it still quit booting after two or three seconds. Stayed away from it for a week or so trying to figure out what was wrong with it/where I could get help. Came back to it today to try and it turned on again, but this time it stopped on the initial dark screen and now it is a black screen with green lines all around it and some blue lines. Do I need to take this laptop to a nearby technician or is all hope lost for it?

A couple of things:

Log-in with the account you just created. Go to Start, settings, Control Panel, User Accounts. Click on the name/account and click remove.

If the above doesn't work... Re-boot laptop, press F2 until you get to a black screen. Go to Safe Mode (using the UP Arrow key) Here you'll be logged-in as the Administrator. Follow the above procedure starting from "Go to Start, Control Panel..."

Hello I'm Timothy, My Asus laptop is not booting up and directly takes me to the blue screen with "Choose an option". I attempted to reset it and I keep getting errors saying a problem occurred and couldn't complete the task. I have no images, discs, or restore points to roll back to, I've tried Sfc scannow multiple times and every time it says it has fixed problems and will appear on next reboot every time I use it.( I should also note that it does this fairly fast as it's known to take a pretty long time) Startup repair fails taking me back to the blue screen, as does refreshing it saying a problem has occurred like in the reset. I'm hoping there's some hope for me? Maybe some command prompt tricks or UEFI settings, you guys are my only hope, thank you all for your help.

Hi!  The 840 G3 appears to have a battery compartment that is secured by screws.  Sometimes there is a combination of keys that can be pressed that will simulate the function of a power reset (powering the laptop down, removing the battery, pressing the power button for a length of time to drain capacitors, replacing battery, and powering up) so that users don't have to remove the battery.  I've googled and found some key combinations for other HP products but can't find one for the 840 G3.  Does anyone know of one? Thanks!

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! I am not 100% sure if I understand you but I'll try to help. As mentioned by you and as confirmed by the product's manual, it comes with non-removable fixed battery. May be you want to perform hard reset to power off the computer >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NJQM8vJa9Q Why do you want to perform this you write about ? Is there some issues with Windows ? If so, have you tried restarting it (instead of Shut down) ?  Because in Windows 8/8.1/10 this process is by default different from what it was in Windows XP/Vista/7.

Over the last few days, since I started using my Inspiron 3520 with Windows 10 on it after a hardware issue that arose a while back from my own doing, I barely did anything on the laptop before it started acting all crazy and all. I did have to do a hard Shutdown quite a few times when it seemed to freeze up on a black screen or at other times before this all started, but I'm assuming that had nothing to do with it... though it couldn't have helped.
I've tried multiple times to do a System Restore, only to keep coming up with an error code 0x80070005, because of some anti-virus program installed/currently running, when I have more than one installed (which I know shouldn't be done, but dunno which work or not at any given time). And now, I can't even do one to before this all started, as I've repeatedly kept trying to do while disabling certain services in Windows Task Manager. Because I tried uninstalling some Windows C++ Redistributable programs from other people who've had the same problem, where with some programs or whatever, I keep getting a "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." message. And after I attempted installing the files I downloaded to fix this problem, I got the SAME message as I do for the programs that refuse to run.

My laptop was working fine yesterday, then we had a thunderstorm last night. I was worried it might get fried because of the storm so I shut it down and unplugged it. This morning it would not power on.

It is a Gateway TA6. When I plug in the AC adapter the battery light comes on. It will not power on though. I found something about doing an ATX reset and I tried that. What I did was unplugged everything including the battery held down the power button for 15 secs then again for 30 secs (when I tried it a second time) I then tried just plugging in the ac adapter and tried to power it on, that didn't work, so I tried plugging in the battery with no ac adapter and that did not work either. I tried it both ways several times varing the amount of time I held down the power button. It has been plugged in all day so I know the battery should be fully charged by now.

Can someone PLEASE help me? I have a lot of financial info on there that I need to get OFF before we go visit family in a couple of days. I have some stuff backed up to my Free Agent Go, but not the updated stuff I need. Can anyone help? I would be SO grateful!!!! Thanks for reading!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 on my hands. It's a definite problem child. Sometimes it recognizes the hard drive, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sees the CD-ROM drive, sometimes it doesn't. But it is very sporadic and I have done hardware testing with Hiren's Boot CD. Everything seems to be fine. So one of my next guesses is that the BIOS or something is screwed up and decided that I need to reset the CMOS. But I have never done it to a laptop before and have no idea where to start. Help? Please?

A:Laptop CMOS reset?

Go to http://support.dell.com/support and then to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag number from the bottom of your laptop.
You can also click on Technical Support there to get a copy of your original configuration if you do not know it.
Then download the BIOS file: BR114952 for a floppy disk install, or I2200A07 or I2200A07.txt.
Read all the instructions, then go ahead to install. it is pretty safe compared to most other brands.
Also download and install your chipset drivers if your computer was built before 01/17/2006. In fact, I would download and install all drivers with release dates more recent than your purchase.
But be aware that you could have both defective hard drive and defective CD-Rom drive.

Hi. I apologize as this is going to be a long post. So, here goes-I bought my Inspiron mini early in 2013. I don't use it much..been using it on and off last two years. The laptop got a bit slow but it dint bother me. Later I updated it to windows 10 thinking it might speed it up but no use. Two days ago, I reset my laptop and chose " Keep my files" option but the reset dint happen. Then I chose the " remove everything option" with "remove everything and clean the drive" option and it resetted. Then I got a page with choose an option written with three options-1. Continue with Windows 102. Troubleshoot3. Restart my PCI chose the first option and it restarted. The Dell logo came and after that it's blank screen! I shut it down and switched it on again and it's the same thing!! It's been two days..  I tried everything in the troubleshooting option too but no result!  Can anyone help me out? Please?

If you are regularly suing a Windows laptop, It's always a good idea to password protect it, even if you are its aole user. If you forgot your password at any time, you will need to reset it. You need to create a password reset disk being able to reset your password. If you know your password, but you just need to change it for security purpose, you can do that quickly as well.

Today I want to introduce the easy and simple way for you.

Create Password Reset Disk

1)Turn on your laptop.

2)Insert a USB flash drive or download other password key ( take windows password key 8.0 for example, http://www.lostwindowspassword.com). According to Microsoft, you can only create one if you are a local user. If your computer is on a network or domain, an administrator must reset your password.

3)Click the "Start" buttom. Click "Control Panel". "Open" user Accounts and Family Safety. "Click" User Accounts".

4)On the left-hand side, click "Browse" to browse Windows Password Key 8.0 image file. The file is usually located as the default. Follow the instrution. When completed, then you can access if you need to reset your password.

Reset password
Turn on your laptop and log in to Windows. If you cannot log in because you enter the wrong password, Windows will show a message that you entered an incorrect password. Click "OK"
Click "Reset Password"
