Quick Aero toggle (shortcut?)

Q: Quick Aero toggle (shortcut?)

I sometimes want to turn aero off quickly for a short period of time (e.g. when runing 3dsmax 64bit, the "disable desktop composition" in compatibility options is grayed out) and the method for vista (rundll32.exe dwmApi #102) doesn't work. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try the compatability tab. There's an option to turn off visual themes when a program runs.

I like to toggle Conservation mode in Vantage onwhen I game quite often to make sure the battery doesn't charge always to 100% but still preserve battery life by not gaming while on battery. Is there a way to easily toggle this without having to open up Vantage every single time I want to toggle it? My only interest is to use it while gaming exclusively, so having open Vantage everytime just for that occasion is a bit annoying to do. Any help is appreciated.

The only built-in way to manually disconnect and reconnect in Windows 7 that I've been able to find, requires a lot of mouse clicks and even on my Core-i7 steel nerves when it starts "troubleshooting" to reconnect very slowly.

I found a better way and because lots of people in several forums have been asking for it I hope it's going to be a Sticky.

Download http://itsamples.com/downloads/network-activity-indicator.zip (always scan downloads for viruses)
Activate it, it will show up as the Windows XP network activity monitor in the tray.
Right click it and click Network Connections.
You've now opened an explorer Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network Connections.
(I'm sorry, I found no other decent way to get to here)

Lets say you want a connect/disconnect Local Area Connection toggle on your desktop. You simply right-drag Local Area Connection from this control panel to your desktop, once you release your mouse button click on Create Shortcut. You can create such toggle shortcuts for every network connection that shows up in the list.. A simple double-click on the freshly made desktop item connects or disconnects whenever you like.

If you don't like the XP style network activity indicator, feel free to remove it now. But remember, once you close the Network Connections window, there is no decent way in Windows 7 to reopen it. As far as I know only the Network Activity Monitor knows how to do that. By the way, I do like the visual indicator of n... Read more

I use my PC for mostly games, but also watching movies and series (I don't see the point in buying a TV and DVD player when I'll only ever use it for DVDs), as a result I like having the 'Loudness Equalization' feature enabled for watching media, and disabled for playing games and listening to music...

Is there a quick way to toggle this on and off? It's a bit irritaing having to right-click the volume control, select properties, etc etc. Would've made more sense to have a "Audio Enhancements" sub-menu when right-clicking the audio icon in the system tray, but apparently MS didn't think of that.

Does anybody have an idea of where this setting is stored? Perhaps in the registry or a settings file somewhere? Any more details would help quite a bit, I can't seem to find much technical information on this feature with a Google search.

Hi,

I want to add shortcut link of one of the folder location to "Quick Access" in Windows 10 x64.

In the case of Windows 10 x86 I used to put my shortcut link in the folder "C:\Users\user_name\Links" & it showed me shortcut in favorites at left side. Also it works using this command :

Code:
mklink /D %USERPROFILE%\Links\MyFolder C:\\MyFolder

I want to do same thing for Windows 10 x64. So I try to use that command on Windows 10 x64 also I have tried to directly copy shortcut & pasted into the location of Quick Access.

But, still it's not showing in left panel of Quick Access.

So, does anybody know how to do that on Windows 10 x64 ? (or perhaps through Registry) ?.

First, let me apologize if this has been previously answered, but my search did not find one...

I have the Quick Launch Taskbar enabled, but there is one glaring issue that drives me crazy, and I am trying to find out if there is a solution...

In previous versions of Windows, I believe you could just have the icon for the program, without a name. However, that does not appear to be the case anymore...

In order to save space, I thought, ok, well just abbreviate the shortcut name, such as FF, CH, IE, etc...this works, however if you try to drag the divider over, so that you only have, say, the first 3 icons showing, the spacing between each icon/name is enormous....

Does anyone know if there is some way to decrease the amount of space between each icon/shortcut?

Thanks in advance...

Dave

I unfortunately must still use dial-up internet.

Being impossible to get my dial-up shortcut from the desktoponto the taskbar of my new Windows 8 laptop, I followed the tutorial to addQuick Launch toolbar to the taskbar, and successfully moved the shortcut tothere.

With Vista, XP etc, one click on Quick Launch toolbarshortcut icon would open this ?Connect TPG? window shown below. You then justclicked <Dial> button to connect directly to the ISP.
(Note: TPG is the name of the ISP)

However, with my Windows 8, three mouse operations all overthe screen are required to arrive at this window:
1. You click the Quick Launch shortcut icon and the Charmssidebar opens.
2. Then you have to select the ISP under the Connections header, which causes a <Connect> button to pop up.
3. Which when clicked finally brings you to the above?Connect TPG? window?.

Hardly a quick launch I would suggest !!

Can somebody please advise how to open this window directlyfrom the Quick Launch toolbar or how to pin a shortcut to the taskbar toachieve the same outcome?
NB, pinning ?Network Connections? shortcut to taskbar is notthe answer, as you still then required to the go through the same 3 operationsmentioned above.

For further info, the properties window of the dial-up shortcut is shown below.
The target string is: {BA126AD7-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

Thanking you

A:Dial-Up Shortcut from Quick Launch or Taskbar in Windows 8

Hello Skippy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since the shortcut uses the {BA126AD7-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E} GUID, you might see if creating a shortcut using either location below may work for you to then add to Quick Launch or Pin to taskbar.
explorer.exe /e,::{BA126AD7-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

explorer shell:::{BA126AD7-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}
If that doesn't work for you, then you could open Network Connections, right click on the dial-up network connection, and click on Create shortcut. This will place a shortcut of it on your desktop than can then be place in Quick Launch.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Ok so I built myself a new PC and everything was running fine. Then I decided to change the graphics card from an ASUS Radeon HD 6770 to an ASUS Radeon HD6850 1GB.

Hi all. This is my first post since upgrading to Windows 7.

I am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.)

My specs:
Axioo NVS M720S Laptop
Genuine Intel Pentium Dual Core T2130 @ 1.86GHz
1024MB DDR2 Memory
SiS671 Mirage3 Graphic Card (on board)
80GB HDD
12" LCD Monitor

I did a clean install of Win7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!

Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.

I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.

I tried the registry hack with no result.

Here is my Windows Experience Index:
Processors: 4.4
RAM: 3.9
Graphics: 2.0
Gaming Graphics: 2.5
Primary Harddisk: 4.4

with Overall score: 2.0

I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.

I have added many tiles on the Start Screen for applications that I use regularly. I?ve also added quite a few shortcuts to Access databases that I use. I?ve also performed this process for an Excel workbook that I use regularly. They have
been working for years. About three months ago, the tile to the Excel workbook would launch Excel but not open the Excel workbook.
Several times I have unpinned the shortcut, deleted the shortcut from the Programs folder. I then recreated the shortcut to the Excel workbook. I tested the shortcut to ensure that the workbook file was loaded. It worked. I copied that shortcut to the Programs
folder where the tiles that came with Windows 10 and the ones I added are located. I retested that shortcut. Again, it worked by launching Excel and opening my workbook. Lastly, I pinned it to the Start Screen. I moved the tile to the desired location.
I click on it to test it. Excel is launched but the workbook is not opened.
I have 12 tiles that point to shortcuts to Access databases that I have created using the same process. They all work and continue to work.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem or even ideas that may lead to a solution?
Thank you.

Trouble is, once there is one instance of the program open, when I enter Ctrl+Alt+C again, instead of opening another instance of the program, it brings the window of the currently open instance to the front. Hello, i have a problem with the function keys since yesterday and i have no idea how to solve it. i want to click on the the fn keys to be doing the action (like play/pause, brightness ect...) but since yesterday i only get the normal function of the fn keys (like when i click f5 it refreshes my page). so i looked it up on the hp forum and tried to change the settings in BIOS, but it was already enabled (like i want it to be). still, i tried to disable it, save, go back to it to enable it again and saved it. but it's still not working as it should be (and even if i press fn + f10 for example, it doesn't work i only get the f10 function). so please help me because it really is annoying.  Thanks for your answers

Hi, I'm a very satisfied owner of the lenovo yoga 710 14-klb, however, I haven't found a way to change the fn setting.I know how to invert the function keys, but I would like to know if there's any way to change the keyboard settings to toggle fn instead of having to hold it down(Like having Caps lock instead of shift). Anyone know how to do this?

I had the older 3.0 verisons of the microsoft bluetooth mouse and keyboard set. I recently got a new verison from microsoft cause I was experiencing problems with the mouse. I installed the mouse and keyboard on my old toggle along with my the older mouse and keyboard. It worked but the mouse was laggy and skippy. I decided to install the new toggle today that came with the mouse and keyboard. I first took out my toggle and then installed the software on the cd (Itellimouse and keyboard). I restarted like it said after the software was installed. Upon Start-up a window popped up asking for me to plug in the toggle. I plugged in the toggle in the front usb port on my computer. (A p180 fron port) I got a popup in the taskbar I double clicked it. A window poped up say that windows did the recognize the device and to Re-plug it in. I did what it said and still nothing. I tried installing in the other port and same thing. I tried it in a back port and same thing. What should I do to get it working?

Thanks in advance

Is there a way to increase the volume for tones in toggle keys that come out of the computer tower?
I have a pc.ary

A:Toggle keys

"Increase the sound??" Normally it's "How do I shut off this beeping!!"

Seriously though, Since the toggle keys use the tower speaker and not the PC's external speakers, I don't believe the volume can be turned up, but maybe someone else will have an idea.

According to the manual for my Acer TM4000 laptop, Fn-F5 is supposed to cycle the display between the laptop, an external monitor, and both. It doesn't seem to have any effect at all. Other Fn-F keys operate ok. OS is XP-Pro + SP2. Is there an "enable" check box or driver issue here?
Thanks,

A:Fn F5 won't toggle display

you usually have to have the external display connected before that key even does anything.
