Pavilion g7 touchpad not working

Q: Pavilion g7 touchpad not working

I have been dealing with this issue and using a wireless mouse for a few months now, since april, to be exact. I searched the fourums, and saw others that had a similiar issue, but it was resolved by installing a driver. Mine does not seem to be so simple, as my trackpad does not show up on my device list, only my wireless mouse. Tapping the top left corner does not get the light to turn on. I appreciate any help that can be given, and thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm having a strange problem. The spot you touch up top is not activating or deactivating the touchpad. It is as though it is not connected to the computer anymore. I already updated the drivers to try to fix, didn't work.Under computer propersties>hardware, it shows up as Synaptics PS/2 port toucnpad, with the image of a mouse on the left, if that helps at all. When I right click on it I can't change any settings or properties. And now my laptop keyboard doesnt work, but the logitech keyboard I previously installed with the computer does work, and operates the lights on the laptop keyboard as well. Help would be greatly appreciated.  My product number is WQ615UA#ABAWindows 7Did not recently make any hardware or software changes.

Greetings, Windows 10 installed on my wife's laptop automatically, when she told me I didn't believe it but after doing some research it's happening to alot of people.  The first thing I noticed was the touchpad didn't work, I could move the pointer around but that was it.   After much research  I schooled up on windows 10 and this issue and quickly learned that alot of people seem to have this same problem.  I'm not going to bother you with everything I did to get the tap feature to work that's easy business, the scroll feature is the tough bit. Listen up HP:I went to the Lenovo website downloaded and intalled their driver onto your machine and it works with Windows 10.  You cats should be embarrased.   Yes this fixed the scroll issue.   Will Windows 10 change it the next time it updates? Probably, but how about yall, get off your rear ends and support your customers and provide us a driver fix for this,  Lenovo figured it out why can't yall?   Here's the link to the driver:http://support.lenovo.com/bd/en/downloads/ds032247 The driver:  V16.6.4.13If your touchpad isn't working at all connect a mouse up and keep it moving. You need to go into device manager and intall from there.   Download the file whereever you want it to live, create an empty folder, next extract the downloaded files contents into the new folder you created. ... I am helping a friend who has an HP Pavilion dv9700t laptop, with Windows 7 Pro x64 installed. The laptop has been running fine until recently, when the Synaptic touchpad's scrolling ability stopped working. The touchpad has not been exposed to excessive heat or subjected to liquid damage, and no changes have been made to the Synaptic Preferences or the Mouse options in Control Panel. A different driver hasn't been installed over the existing one. He asked me to help him determine why it has stopped working, but I can't figure it out. The only thing I can think of that may have caused both the horizontal and the vertical scrolling to stop working could possibly be a Windows update, but trying to determine which one is the culprit (if any) is almost impossible. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the scrolling options, and I've deleted and reinstalled the driver, but no luck. Should I roll back to a previous version, or try something else?

The driver version is 15.0.17.4 and the Synaptics Touchpad version is V6.3, if that helps at all.

A:HP Pavilion Synaptic Touchpad scrolling stopped working

Hooray! Great news! I figured out what was causing the problems. It turns out that my friend had broken off one of the laptop keys, and in an attempt to get it to remain on the laptop, glued it back on to the keyboard, without telling me. I discovered this when I opened Wordpad to write some notes, only to find the 9 key displaying in an active line, like this: 99999999999999999

The key had been glued so firmly that it was permanently pressing as though someone were holding it down. As a result, the trackpad wouldn't scroll (as the 9 key also doubled as the right arrow key) and the BIOS would remain stuck on the initial boot screen until another key was pressed.

After removing the key, I scraped the dried glue off of it, reattached the plastic switch to the metal brackets on the keyboard so it snapped firmly back into place, and sternly lectured my friend about why superglue and keyboards do not mix.

Hello. I need help with my laptop. I did fresh install of Win10, downloaded WIN updates, downloaded and installed all drivers form HP site, but my touchpad is not working. When the instalation was fresh with no new drivers, touchpad worked, but after install of microsoft or HP drivers it stops working. I can see it in device manager, everything says that is working correctly, but there is no response to my touch. I tried uninstalling Synaptics driver from applications and also from device manager, after restart Touchpad is working, but than after instalation of any driver (HP, generic Microsoft or  newest Synaptics) and restart it stops working.  Any idea of how to fix it? I tried even to replace touchpad with but it does the same.  Thank you in advance. My laptop is not under warranty.

The right hand button on my "Synaptics Pointing Device" on my dv3 laptop isn't working. When I click on it, it does nothing. (This is obviously really annoying if, for instance, I want to open another webpage in a new tab versus new window, etc.) The left hand button, however, works, though acts funny when I start up my computer. If I try to use it as soon as it looks like everything is loaded on my computer, it doesn't work properly. Instead it draws boxes on the screen. But if I wait a minute, then the left click works correctly. I am running Vista. I have my touchpad set up for a right hander. If I go to control panel and mouse and try to switch it over to left hand (which I don't want, I was just trying to play around and see if I could get the button to work), my computer freaks out a bit and doesn't let me change it over. The touchpad portion is working just fine.

Took my pavilion m6 into a computer repair shop to get the fan fixed a while ago. After the guy fixed the fan he said there was a windows update which he wasn't able to stop. The touchpad stopped working after that. He assured me he checked the connection and it was all good hardware wise. He said the only reason the touchpad would not be working is because of the windows update. He reset it to a date before any repairs but it still does not work. I've tried reinstalling the driver with no luck. I have no idea what else to try

Hi, Shut down the notebook and disconnect any peripheral devices. Tap away at f8 as you soon as you press the power button to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  When this has loaded, does the touchpad work with Windows running in this mode? To exit Safe Mode, just restart the notebook. Regards, DP-K

Hi, I recently got rid of a Google redirect browser hijacker trojan, but still had a lingering effect that started happening when I first noticed the spyware. My HP laptop's touchpad (driven by Synaptics) seemed to randomly freeze, but always froze when I tried to scroll with it or move it too fast. I had run multiple spyware and malware scans, ccleaner and the kaspersky online scan and haven't found anything; the problem persisted. So I uninstalled the driver for it in order to install a fresh version of the newest one.

But when I went to install it I got this message:
And upon closing that one, I got this one:
Also, I occasionally get Windows permission errors related to rundll32.exe too, sometimes when I start Windows or try to change a program's settings. I think it's important to note, too, that I've been experiencing cursor jumping every now and then. I'll be typing then all of a sudden the cursor is a few lines up and I'm typing on lines I've already written.

I think it may have to do with uninstalling the synaptics driver. But alas here I am stuck unable to reinstall it.

Related, I have accidentally deleted my Recycle Bin... and when I go to Personalize and click 'Change desktop icons' it gives me a permissions-related Windows error message with rundll32.exe in the title bar. I have a feeling all of these symptoms are rooted in one central cause, but who knows.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello dear Support Forum, I got me a new HP Pavilion dm1 about half a year ago and now I encountered my first major issue. At some random times, but mostly when the Netbook is powered on for a longer time, my Keyboard and touchpad suddenly stop to work.Everything else is just fine, programms or copying stuff still work, but I can't input a thing. the mouse just freezes and even the taskmanager won't work anymore. the only button still working is the power button. When I press it shortly it even goes into sleep mode and after awaking it again everything works fine again, but not for long...The more programms I open up or the longer it is powered on, the faster the lock appears. Could it possibly be a heat problem? Oh, and I got an OT question on top of it: It is a dual boot netbook with Windows 7 Home and HP Quick Web preinstalled. Is there a possibility to install Pinguy OS (a Linux Distro) instead of Windows 7 without losing warranty or functionality and still have HP Quick Web? Thank you in advance.Deweini System:HP Pavilion dm1 4100 (sg or eg, I don't remember yet)Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and HP Quick Web4GB RamE-450 Apuno tweaks made

I got my new Pavilion 15-ab153nr a couple of months ago. Recently I noticed that there is a gap between the bottom case (where it curves up) and the surface plate. This is right under the touchpad. Don't recall that this was the situation when I took it out of the box. It doesn't appear to run hot. Is this something that I need to worry about? Anybody else notice gaps developing on your Pavilions? Thanks for any input.

A:pavilion 15-ab153nr - Gap in front under touchpad

Welcome to the HP Community @annekas.  I understand that you're concerned about the casing on your HP Pavilion 15-ab153nr Notebook. I would like to advise you on this.  If you click on the following link you'll see a pristine (albeit low-resolution) image of your PC: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04802143.pdf  As you can see there, the casing/housing is flush with the touchpad and there's nothing that's elevating. Based on what you're describing, something is up with your PC hardware (as you well know). For that issue I have no DIY remedy to suggest. I think it's worth contacting our tech support team over here. If you'd like to pursue that option, you can send in the PC for servicing. If this helps, show appreciation for my reply by hitting the ?thumbs up? below, or click the "Accept as Solution" button if I have helped you reach a solution. Thanks for posting and have a nice weekend!

My touchpad was working just fine then I began using a wireless Microsoft mouse at my desk. Then today I thought of trying it out once more and I noticed that my touchpad had stopped working without me noticing when. I have searched online for solutions and all I saw was the fn+f7 solution. On my model, this fn+f7 solution doesn't work, instead that is a shourtcut key to dimming the backlight of my screen. My touchpad has a switch above it which is probably the replacement of that fn+f7 solution. I turned it on and the touchpad was still not responding to my input. I restarted and disconnected the mouse, still no benefit. I checked under device manager "Mice and other pointing devices" and I noticed that the touchpad icon was not there, i.e. the computer was only recognizng the external mouse, not the built in touchpad. I looked under the "uninstall a program" menu and I saw a program called touchpad in there but I don't know why it is not in the device manger. hOW CAN i FIX THIS without having to take my Laptop to HP????

Is this a sign that computers have feelings, because it's appears that when you leave the touchpad for about a month because you are using a mouse, the touchpad stops functioning; it feels that it is no longer needed

Hi All; thanks in advance for your help.

I just performed a clean install of Windows 7 on my wife's HP Pavilion dv5140us. (For the record, I'd previously done this operation on an Acer Extensa with none of the issues mentioned below).

My Synaptics touchpad is causing me problems. The issues are twofold. (I know there are countless threads on similar issues, but I've been unable to find one which discusses my precise problem, so forgive me.)

1) If I don't install proper touchpad drivers (ie, I allow Windows to operate the touchpad using standard HID-compliant mouse drivers), the touchpad actually works perfectly. Movement is smooth; scrolling works; buttons function properly, etc.

2) If I install proper drivers for the touchpad, it's unusable. The pointer wildly skips, leaps, and jumps all over the place, no matter how I adjust the settings for sensitivity, speed, palm-protection, etc. It's a crazy mess.

So WHY, you ask, don't I just stick with the MS mouse drivers? Answer: I need to be able to disable the touchpad's "tapping" features. My wife can't stand tapping-enabled touchpads. Somehow, the MS mouse driver provides for tapping functionality... but no obvious way to disable it.

The solution I'm looking for, then, is either:
- A way to make a Synaptics driver work, thus giving me the ability to disable the tapping feature
- OR, a way to disable the tapping feature while using the standard mouse driver, which already does work

Any ideas?

Hi,

I've updated my laptop to Windows 10 and now the touchpad is really slow to react. I've checked the settings and it was set to a medium delay which I've now changed to no delay but it's still doing it. I've checked in device manager and it says the driver software is up to date as well.

It's not the worst problem in the world, I can still use my laptop, it's just a bit annoying.

P.S I've never used a forum before so sorry if I've done anything wrong!

Thanks :-)

A:Problem with touchpad on HP Pavilion after updating to Windows 10

Probably Windows Update replaced the driver with a generic from Microsoft that it is not so compatible. Visit manufacturer's support site, download the touchpad driver and install it. Any Windows version, Vista, 7, 8 or 10 will work on 10.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

HI.I have a TravelMate B115-M, and the touchpad is not working at all. In order to do anything, I had to go out and get a wireless mouse. I've tried FN-F7, but that doesn't seem to actually do anything. I even went to the drivers page and tried downloading there but still nothing. When I look under control panel or dvice manager I dont see anything there for a touchpad either. I could really use some help here. Oh, yeah, and I'm using Windows 10 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Since it doesn't work at all, go to Control panel, Programs and Features and uninstall the touchpad driver there and make sure that there isn't any other driver installed for the touchpad. Then go to Device Manager and uninstall the touchpad if it still shows any driver. Then reboot and let windows install the default driver. It should do something with the default driver if it was just a driver problem.

A:Touchpad Not Working?

Hi, Try the following - connect a usb Mouse where required. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager window, expand Mice and other pointing devices. Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, shutdown the notebook. Disconnect any peripheral, including any usb Mouse. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking the touchpad function. Regards, DP-K

if you goto to

Hi, I've had a Lenovo P50 thinkpad for a few days, and initially the touchpad was working absoluely fine. But today it just randomly stopped functining all together. All the touchpad/tracker buttons/detection just doesn't respond.  I have to naivate my laptop using a mouse at the moment. I've tried re-installing the Synaptics pointing device driver but it didn't change anything - the touchpad is still unresponsive. I also noticed that when I drill into the "Mouse" properties under Control Panel, the touchpad/tracker options are disabled in the GUI, and only the touchpad is ticked (tracker is not ticked) - however, since they're disbaled I can't change anything.  I also checked my BIOS to see if the touchpad got disabled there, but it is actually enabled. Any ideas on what to do? Cheers
