A Question About Files With .000 Extension

Q: A Question About Files With .000 Extension

I have Windows XP SP2 installed.

There are presently 246 files in the C:\WINDOWS\$NTSERVICEPACKUNINSTALL$ folder with a .000 extension that add up to tens of MB's.

These files appear to be duplicates of other files with the same name.

I'm pretty sure that files with a .000 extension can be deleted in XP, just like they can in 98 and ME, but I want to be sure.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
System is a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5353 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Intel Pentium CPU B950 @ 2.10GHz 4GB RAM.

This laptop came into my shop with the FBI screen. After making full backup and scanning with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and Symantec Endpoint Protection on my "Server" I was able to actually use the laptop again. But when i go into my documents everything has a .html file extension.

If it is a word document, the file looks like this: "xxxx.docx.html." When I try to open the file it opens up Internet Explorer with a Decrypt Protect screen. Which I know is fake because it is asking me to pay a fee. The link it opens is http://mblblock.in/index.php. I tried to remove the extension but when i try to open the doc or jpeg is says it is corrupted.
Also ran rkill which found nothing. The Antivirus on the machine is McAffee.
I have looked at the backup i made before i did anything and still can open those files from the backup.

I completely reloaded the machine because my customer was in need of the computer. I do have a full backup and still have access the files I want to get back.

Any help would be appreciated!

You need a cryptography specialist! never had a ransomeware case before. Looks like a real mean piece of malware! Encrypting all your docs and wont give them back untill you pay...

It's ruder than hard disk failure!

decmblblock.exe Download Link!!!! This tool fixed the problem!!!

I downloaded the tool and ran it. I removed all the folders it wanted to search except the external i have the back up on. Took around 30 minutes to complete and could view those files again. All word docs, jpegs, and audio files work again.

I notice now i have duplicates of all files. One with the file extension .html(BAD) and one with the actual file extension(GOOD). Now all i have to do is delete the bad files and everything will look like normal again.
:NOTE:

I ran this tool from MY computer. I plugged the backup drive into my computer via USB Adapter

I just purchased a program called Multimedia Greeting Card Maker v4.2 this week. When I create a card, then test it within the program, it works fine. When I save it, it saves as a .CRD file.

What is needed to open this file? I've tried everything I have, and I am unable to find the answer, via Google

TIA.

A:File Extension Question (.CRD)

Disregard this question.

It turns out I am required to send a .BAT file and an .EXE file with the card to get it to work. Wish I would have known that before the shelled out the dough. The cards does open, but it's a real hassle for the recipient.

ok then I am stumped for a solution for I think is probably simple!

I have a broadband connection in my house, which provides Wifi for the home via a Netgear Wireless router and a wired connection to a couple of home laptops. All fine and dandy.

My new home studio is ready for occupation and in a separate building 75m away, so is well out of wifi range from the house.
The studio does however have a BT extension socket which is connected to the same home phone line via a cat 5 cable.
I realise that I can plug a single computer into this socket using a filter and that would provide broadband for 1 computer.

Thing is, I need to have decent broadband for 2-3 Macs in the studio (I am a video editor).

My question is:
What are my options for getting preferably Wifi in the new building, or at least 2-3 wired connections from this single BT socket?

I have a new spare DLink wireless router, is it possible to have 2 WiFi routers connected to the same Bt line? so the Netgear one serves the house and the Dlink one configured the same to serve the studio?

I purchased a Netgear Ethernet switch, after being told by PC world that this is what I need. Trouble is it doesn't to me look connectable to the BT socket /filter as it lacks an ADSL socket.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I just discovered 20 of these files in the C: root directory in one of my computers and have never seen them there before.

This is what the file name looks like:

sqmnoopt00.sqm

I did a Google search on it and it appears to have something to do with MSN Messenger 8.0. If that's the case, I did install the 8.0 beta version about a week ago - which originally worked, but no longer does. I haven't uninstalled it yet.

Guys,

I have Firefox 47. Have not updated to version 48 yet, but I do have updates set to automatic for the browser and extensions.

I get a message that said, "Another program would like to make changes to Firefox settings." The programs were Ad Block Plus and My WOT which I had for years and years. This is the first time I have ever gotten this message. Why most likely did I get this message. It happened when I opened up Firefox.

Jack

PS. Update history shows that I was auto-updated to version 47.1 yesterday. I also have Windows 10 on a desktop and was updated to version 48 a few days ago. Was version 48 made mainly for the release of Windows 10's anniversary update?

A:Firefox Extension Question? Windows 8.1

I don't think Ver 48 is only for Win 10. I'm on Win 10 and still sitting at 47.0.1. Mozila doesn't push updates out to everybody at one time.

To answer you question about that message, I think mozila made changes in security for FireFox in 47. That is when I first started seeing that message.

Hello to all!

I recorded a podcast with a pair of friends and we each had to record ourselves on separate files. Anyhow, they uploaded them to Mediafire for me and sent me the links so that I could download them, merge them together and edit as appropriate.

My problem is that the files have no extension type. I can open them with Windows Media Player, but I can't use my file converter on them (as they don't exist when it searches), nor can I open them in my audio editor (as it, again, can't find them).

How do I solve this problem, please?

Try and save the file in WMP.

If no-go, rename file and place a file extension on it related to audio.

The strange thing is, I was able to do it 1 time. I dragged a web address off and Windows created a shortcut. I was able to change the extension to .txt. The icon changed to that for a text file, and I could open the file and read it.

Since then, though, the url extension does not show up. If I select Rename and add .txt to the part of the filename showing, it evidently retains the url extension after the .txt extension because the icon doesn't change to the one for a text file, I'm not allowed to edit it, and selecting open results in it opening the web page - i.e., acting like it is still a .url file.

I have checked Tools -> View many times and the box for hiding common extensions is unchecked so that is not the problem.

Any ideas?

A:Cannot rename files with url extension

Um, right click the shortcut, url, or whatever and use open with..... use notepad.

Hi.. i have this problem with mp4 extension video files... it sounds simple but i dont know how to figure this out..

The problem is when i click any icons or any file types (either its avi, mpeg etc)...it is highlighted immediately, however when i click any mp4 file types.. its like loading for 5 seconds or so then it is highlighted...something shaky happen in the background but its not really concern me, what im concern is these MP4 file types..

So assuming there are 12 or more MP4 files in one folder and the view type is thumbnails, imagine that i have to wait more than 1 minute or more just to get it loaded the thumbnails...while waiting for that i can still run other things/software smoothly.. any ideas?

A:mp4 video files extension

MP4 files are for PSP's and other portable devices generally. of course our computers can run them as well. I am going to assume you use Windows Media Player as your default Media Player. If you can use the MP4 files - you must have the right codecs installed / supported.

Hanging inside the Windows GUI is 999 times out of 1000 related to your registry. You could try a registry cleaner. CCleaner is a great freeware tool. Another option is to download another media player that supports MP4, and set them association for that player just for MP4. See if that helps, and then uninstall the player (if you want)

I have just been to Powerquests website to view some demonstration videos. They claim that the videos are "easy to view".To give you an example I went to http://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id2166.cfm and when you hover the mouse over one of the tutorials, the file has a .snt extension. If u click on it, it brings the download box up. The one I downloaded was only a 576k zip file, but it unzips to 5700k! with an extension of file extension of .snt. So much for the "easy viewing" Have they never heard of .avi or .wma? Many thanks Chris

A:What app opens files with a .snt extension?

I did a search for it on google but I found all sorts of results, sent mail files, template files, the works. Here, Windows doesn't appear to know what it is either. And, I can't find what it says on any of those two links.
My reccomendation would be to emailing the PowerQuest support staff and asking them what it is. It may be an error that they have to fix, or it could open with a program they made.

Downloading videos from my camcorder I get 4 files for each clip - the video file and 3 other files with the same filename but different extensions that apparently are required by the video editor. When you have several hundred clips that's a lot of extra files that you don't need to see cluttering up the listing. In thumbnail view that's 3 out of every 4 thumbnails. Is there a way to hide those unwanted files by hiding files with a given extension? It's out of the question to set the hidden attribute for each file separately.
Thanx

Hi bassfisher6522,

I had this problem a while back. It was being caused by a third party AV program (CA Security). You can fix the file extension by renaming the file with the correct ext. (Example-.exe). Should work fine.

A friend sent me a zipped folder, that contained files needed to install and run an application. To faciltate sending and security he removed the exe extensions.

I would ask him, but he is away, so I am here to find out how I may solve the problem. Neither trying to edit properties, nor renaming seems possible.

I hope you can help.

A:exe files sent stripped of extension

You can not simply rename the files adding the extension? Are you trying to rename them IN the ZIP file? If so, extract the files from the archive. Click the files in Windows Explorer, press F2 and type the file name along with the .EXE program extension.

Hello,

Below script is for recursive deletion of all files (not folders) older than 30 days except for some extension to be excluded.

the script works but I notice it doesn't delete files which don't have an extension (I mean some files shows as File in proprieties)
Get-ChildItem -path "C:\TEST\" -exclude *.log,*.hep,*.sep,*.ocs,*.xls,*.xlsx,*.doc,*.pdf,*.ps1,*.dll,*.mdb,*.exe,*.inf,*.ini,*.jpg,*.bmp,*.gif,*.jpeg,*.png -recurse -file -erroraction silentlycontinue | Where-Object {$_.LastWriteTime -lt (Get-Date).AddDays(-30)} | tee -FilePath "C:\Scripts\Logs\Deleted Files-$logtime.log" -Append | ForEach-Object { sdelete -P 1 -R -S $_.FullName }

Could you please advise how to delete files without an extension?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I have alot of extraneous files hidden deep inside folder after folder, I want to be able to find all files that are NOT .wav, .mp3, .aif, .aiff, .rx2 and move them into a new seperate folder, leaving only those files type in the folders. Afterwards I would like to delete all empty folders.

Any suggestions?

I don't know when this problem started to happen.

I have many files on my Amiga and often transfer them to the PC and vice versa. Both computers are on the same network. There are many files on the Amiga without an extension and AmigaOS detects what type of file they are even when there is no extension (so you can have an mp3 file named Music.jpg and double clicking it would not start the picture viewer but the mp3 player). On the PC side when I double clicked such a file (for example a text file named "README", previously it asked me which program to run it with. Something changed this behavior now. The problem now is that it simply tries to execute files without extensions (regardless of the file type) and tells me: "README is not a valid Win32 application". Does anyone know what I have to do to return it back to its default behavior (double clicking does not try to execute the file)

I take movies with my Nikon Coolpix camera and they are .mov files. So far, no movie make software I've seen will accept this extension. Is there a conversion software that will change them to a more usable file extension for movies? Thanks!

Hi there,

While not specific to Windows XP (that's my OS), I wonder if there is software available that can find .jpg images on my computer even though the files lack the Windows .jpg extension?

A few years ago I moved a batch of images from a camera onto my hard drive. When they were transferred somehow none of them were given a file extension of .jpg. I thought to myself, "no problem I will add the extension later." Well, now I can't remember where I put them and I have no way of finding them! Windows search can find images, but it's based on the file extension.

Is there search software that can look into the actual file info and figure out which ones are JPG files even if they lack a Windows file extension?

Thanks for any advice!
