Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 20CG 20CH touchpad doesn't work after BIOS 2.0 update

Q: Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 20CG 20CH touchpad doesn't work after BIOS 2.0 update

Hi, Today I've decided to update to the BIOS version 2.0 to my Thinkpad Helix according to the Drivers published in the support page. After that, the touchpad is not working anymore. I've applied different things like for example Function Key + F6 and nothing. Does anyone have an idea of how to solve this? This is the log file after the update: [2018/7/21 9:9:48] version 25.32OS = Windows 10 64bitDriver Loading....DoneSystem BIOS Version -> N17ET72WApplying BIOS Version -> N17ETA0WSystem EC Version -> N17HT63WApplying EC Version -> N17HT66WAC adapter/Battery check....OK.BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.EC Flashing....EC Flash completed. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Lenovo system update offered me today to install a critical update - ThinkPad BIOS UPDATE US - 8.1/10 [64], version 1.98.1.66. After the installation and windows restart, I have noticed that the system performance has gone down drastically. Process list inspection showed 'System interrupts' using 25% of the CPU, which basicaly means that a single thread is utilizing 100% of 1 logical processor. I've inspected the system log, and 1 error stood out: 'BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device.' System log was flooded with these messages. First event was logged after the windows was restarted (after the bios update). I ran the Lenovo System update and installed the offered Broadcom NFC Driver [64] 1.3.0.190. It didn't help to resolve the issue with the NFC device initialization and consenquently CPU usage. I went to the device manager, and disabled 'NFC SMBus Device' under the system devices. CPU usage went down to 0%. Now the question is, did my NFC device actually fail, or the new BIOS update introduced this issue?

I have a Thinkpad tablet 20CG onWindws 8.1 that uses a Pro dock keyboard. The tablet originally came with a folio keyboard that still works correctly but I cannot get the touchpad on the pro dock keyboard to function. However the keys on the keyboard portion still function. I have tried downloading the firmware update for the ultrabook pro keyboard and the registry patch with no resolution. I figured it has to be a driver issue but cannot figure out which one is causing the issue. Any ideas?

I've had a virus on the laptop/tablet for a while now and it was ruining the PC for me. I tried multiple different free malware detection services but the actual problems always slipped through. I didn't want to have to pay for a whole new program just to clean it out, and because this is a fairly new device I decided to just factory reset the whole thing. I followed the steps in the user manual and a couple of different internet sites, but I've hit a brick wall. When I get to the reset screen of the laptop, all of the possible options I can use encounter errors. I tried to use "refresh your PC" and get "There was a problem refreshing your PC". I tried "reset your PC" and it gets about half way through the process and says "There was a problem resetting your PC". I went into the advanced options that looks like the image I've attached to this post. It says I do not have any point to restore to, I don't have an image backup, the system repair says that it couldn't repair the PC, I have no idea what to do in command prompt, I couldn't find anything useful in the UEFI (But then again, I didn't know what to look for), and startup settings doesn't do anything. On top of all that, I can't even get out of this menu. My options at the menu start are to Continue (Exit and continue to Windows 8.1), Use a device (Which I do not have one or know how to get one), Troubleshoot, and Turn off your PC. When I try to continue, the PC boots up, says "Preparing Automatic Repair" and I get put ri... Read more

I have a ThinkPad Helix 2 that powers on, displays Lenovo screen and if nothing is pressed it goes dead and restarts (cycle just continues).  If I press Enter when the Lenovo screen comes up it shows "0271 - Check Date & Time Settings" and then Press Esc to Continue or F1 to enter setup...then it goes dead and restarts.  I can get into setup for a fraction of a second if I am fast, but then it still goes dead and restarts. Any idea whether I can do some form of a reset without having to have the device powered on?  Or does it sound like the main PCB is a goner? Thanks,

I bought a used W530 with 24 gigs ram, i7 cpu.  I've installed all the latest drivers on lenovo's support.  Everything seems to work great except the touchpad (touchpad did the same thing before I updated anything).  When sliding my finger across sometimes it just stops and the cursor won't move again until I firmly tap twice, almost like the cursor is frozen in place and the taps wake it up.  Other times the cursor will jump to the other side of the screen when scrolling.  Sometimes it clicks with the slightest touch, and other times I have to firmly tap. I've read most of the issues on this forum but they don't sound like this problem.  This feels like a flakey touchpad.  I see on ebay you can get the touchpad sticker/cover, the entire palmrest with ribbon cables, or the touchpad sensor board.  If I can't fix the issue with software, is the problem most likely the palmrest piece or the sensor board?  I'm assuming the sensor board is what the palmrest plugs into somewhere by the motherboard, but I'm not sure as I haven't torn into it yet and the maintenance manual doesn't show that sensor board. I'm going to attempt disabling the trackpoint in the driver as I just found that suggestion on the forum and see if that fixes the touchpad.  If that solves the problem, is there a hardware fix for the trackpoint or is that just getting a replacement keyboard?  I doubt that will be the issue since the trackpoint and all... HiAfter doing all updates (windows/lenovo) and ensuring latest lenovo power managers are installed, my Helix 20CG will still not wake from sleep mode. This problem has been persistant since the second day I had the computer. If the Helix is in sleep mode for more than 2 hours and you press the power button, the screen will not turn on. However if the tablet is docked on the ultrabook keyboard the green light on the Fn key will briefly flicker. Also if you press the power button and then immediately hit the windows button on the bottom of the tablet it will vibrate a bit, but in both cases the screen does not turn on. After continuously hitting the power button for ~5-10 minutes the screen will eventually turn on. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks,Brandon

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

But if I chose USB bootable devices it immediately returned back to F12 menu and refuse to boot into USB device. If I chose "Setup" then it became black screen over 10 minutes and never got into BIOS menu. Now it can ONLY boot into current OS Win10 but it's toooooo slow for me to use. Hello, I have the issue with Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. I accidentally deleted this partition when I'm tryed to install custom Windows 7 on this tablet PC. Thus, I have a question, how can I get this recovery image for Lenovo Helix? Thank you in advance.

A:Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

Hi Murdoqq,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you deleted the recovery partition, you have deleted the files needed to create the recovery media without which you cannot create a recovery media.

If you get the OEM ISO and re install it, the key should register automatically because it?s flashed into BIOS.

Otherwise, you have to call Lenovo Technical Support and order for a new set of recovery discs. Refer here for further information regarding the same.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi all, I need some help with my new Helix (3698-6CG) I've been using this machine for almost a month and bluetooth never even showed up in Windows. With all the drivers installed, BIOS updated to latest version, Bluetooth is not working, neither showed up ever in Device Manager. Bluetooth is enabled in BIOS and the Bluetooth service also in Windows Services but no change. Disabling and re-enabling it in BIOS (with several restarts) was also no success.  I tried Broadcom's official driver, too but the driver couldn't even detect my bluetooth device. Recently I upgraded to Windows 10 to see if it solves the problem but still no change. I installed the official Lenovo Bluetooth driver. The installation was quick and succesful but still no bluetooth after all. I think I tried every possible solution but there is still no Bluetooth in Windows Device Manager. What could I possibly do now? Thank you in advance!

A:Helix Bluetooth doesn't work

I've had the exact same problem with my 3701-33M. Sent in to Lenovo and it turns out the bluetooth device was missing. Pulled out another brand new one I had on hand, same thing, sent in, no bluetooth card physically installed. The build sheets for these device serial numbers show an asterisk next to the bluetooth device saying "or equivalent". Received my replacement unit under warranty and guess what? Also has no bluetooth. Seems like a full manufacturing batch went out without the cards even being installed. Pretty dodgy QC on these Helixes unfortunately.

HelloI have some issues with my Y50-70 laptop. For some time I have strange FPS drops while playing games. All runs smoothly but suddenly fps drop to 5-10 for a few seconds, then all goes back to normal. I read that it's a matter of old BIOS version. I tried to update BIOS (2.00 -> 3.03) but id doesn't work. InsydeFlash starts, then I get a prompt about not turning off PC, I click 'ok', then IF flashes some messages about 'erasing and writing new files' and then system reboots as always (without any updates, installs or anything alike). I tried to install BIOS using USB stick, but for that I need iso file. The thing is that on Lenovo support site all iso are literally empty. Just hollow file with nothing inside (yet somehow it weights about 20mb). I cannot find any solution on the internet, as if this problem occured only on my laptop.I'm using Windows 10 64bit and Ubuntu 17.10 (dual-system, combined using grub 2).

First, to make this absolutely clear: there isn't even an entry in Device Manager, as in "there's an unknown device". The touch screen completely disappeared as a device. Nothing detects it. Even the WriteIt app cannot start because it cannot detect touch or pen inputs. Second, this happened approximately two months ago. Since many updates installed then I cannot tell after which one specifically it happened. There were Windows updates but also a ThinkPad BIOS v1.38 update through Lenovo Vantage. After that the touch screen hasn't work and is still not working. That's two months. Unfortunately I cannot rollback updates through Lenovo Vantage (and anywhere else for that matter). I can only rollback Windows updates but there are so many, it'll be very time-consuming and inconvenient. I don't want to sound whiny and entitled but I still cannot understand how is it possible to have this issue for so long without any available resolution. Basically I cannot use the touch screen of a device which main selling point was the touchscreen. Is there a way to do a hardware diagnostic that will tell me more? I tried browsing through the BIOS but couldn't find anything. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I've always been very protective with my machine and haven't abused its flexibility in any way. It's mostly staying as a normal laptop on my desk with the ocassional change of posture to bring the touchscreen closer to me. I really hope something can be do... Read more

Hi there, would be grateful for any help on a problem that has me completely stumped.

I have an AJP 7321 laptop that was running Windows ME. I've recently upgraded to XP Pro. The upgrade didn't go entirely smoothly until I updated the BIOS (now R1.07 if that helps). Hey presto, XP Pro installs and runs like a dream. Except that since the BIOS update the laptop monitor is not working properly: when I power up I have a blank screen with flashing horizontal or vertical lines (sometimes both together). I've hooked up an external monitor, which is fine, and the laptop monitor 'flashing style' changes according to what I am doing, suggesting that it is receiving information and trying to do something with it.

Device manager says everything is working properly. I've updated the graphics card driver (S3 Twister K). And then I deleted all the programs I didn't need or could easily download again one day in case there were any conflicts. Oh, and ran a full virus check for good measure...

I've scoured the internet, spoken to AJP support and tweaked everything I can think of. I'm assuming that it probably isn't a graphics card problem since it all appears perfectly on the external monitor. Should I be tweaking something in the BIOS or a system folder? Any suggestions??

I bought my Satellite Z930 in August and installed 2GB extra RAM in it. Worked fine, the Ultrabook detected it and had total 6GB of RAM.
Yesterday I stopped ignoring these Toshiba Tempro messages and installed the suggested BIOS Update to Bios 2.20 (don't know which version it was before). Now I have several problems:

*First one*, my Ultrabook doesn't start anymore with the extra RAM. I press the power button, then the power LED starts blinking: 2 times yellow, 1 time orange in loop. The screen stays black and the CPU fan raises to maximum level..Only when I remove the extra RAM, then it starts.

*Second problem*, without my extra RAM it starts, but sometimes with the CPU fan at maximum level. So i have to restart that it stops.

*Third problem*, Windows only detects 2GB of RAM. I have now no extra RAM istalled, so it should detect 4GB of RAM, like when I bought it. Now there are only 2GB...

So is this what happens when I install suggested updates? -.-
So what can I do now? At least I want my preinstalled 4GB of RAm back. Is there any BIOS downgrade, or something similar to revert the changes?

OK, solved the problem. I found a BIOS downgrade to 2.1 at this page: http://www.blog-drivers.com/2012/07/toshiba-portege-z930-notebook-drivers.html
Now I have my 6GB back :)

When I push the mute button nothing happens (the little light doesn't turn on) and when I go into "Control Panel"/"Hardware and Sound" and click on "Lenovo - Microphone Mute" I get a message that says "Error - The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Any suggestions? Thanks.

So I've messed around with this my whole afternoon. What I've found out is that the X1C I just got will not notice my monitor (samsung px2370), however, it will notice my TV just fine.Figured I would try a BIOS update...well I already have Linux installed and the BIOS update options are "Windows" or "CD"...why...there is a CD/DVD option...in 2018...on a model that does not have a direct CD/DVD drive - is beyond me.I've tried copying the iso image with 'dd' and booting from it but that doesn't work.Suggestions?

Hi all, Very happy with my new Helix 2 apart from one very very fatal flaw. Whether it's resuming from sleep, hibernate, or even from opening the lid when the power setting is set to do nothing for closing the lid - when doing any of these actions, the windows key acts like it's stuck down, and the touchpad stops working. So basically just pressing L on it's own locks, or N brings up narrator... the keyboard is completely unusable - I can only log back in because I have the fingerprint. I have installed all the latest drivers and firmware and let the windows updates run their course. The windows key physically is not stuck. But 100% of the time I wake from sleep/hibernate/lid close this happens. Restart fixes it. I tried a registry hack that disables the windows key, which solves that issue but the trackpad still stops working - although the keyboard pointer keeps working. Very odd. If anyone can point me to a solution for this issue that would be great as I really really don't want to have to use 8.1. Thanks,-Laurence
