IE9 pathetic choice of search providers in the United Kingdom

Q: IE9 pathetic choice of search providers in the United Kingdom

Why I hate Internet Explorer
Had some trouble with the annoying Babylon search I finally managed to get rid of it but was left with Bing as the default search engine I prefer Google so I went to add it but it was absent from the UK search providers the only real competition for Bing that
Microsoft allows is the Ask & Yahoo search engines plenty of rubbish options like confused.com or BBC music search but no Google !
I did find a Google accelerator in the add-ons but you cannot set it as the default search engine.
I had to revisit the search engine page & change the gb in the Address bar to us & get the Google search provider from the US site.

Preferred Solution: IE9 pathetic choice of search providers in the United Kingdom

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried clicking on Tools/Manage Add-ons/Search Providers, then highlight Google and choose in the lower part of the window "Set as default".

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 my keyboard is no longer set to English (United Kingdom) - so I keep getting US keyboard settings for various characters like @ when typing ! In Windows 8 I could change the settings easily in Control Panel >Clock, Language, Region. But now when I go to Control Panel> Language it seems that English (United Kingdom) is only available as a download. I tried to download and install the update but although it downloaded OK it was taking so long to install that I cancelled the operation in desperation !

A:English (United Kingdom) language

since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I've had a number of problems, some I've been able to sort.

But I am having trouble getting the English(United Kingdom) version keyboard. In the Language section of the Control Panel it is shown as my preferred setting, but if I roll mouse over it then says it's 'available' to download. Tried that, downloaded OK but wouldn't install ('hung' for over 30 minutes doing nothing before I gave up and cancelled !). Didn't have this problem with Windows 8 (or any previous versions of Windows either). As far as I am aware all previous versions have had both US and UK versions installed requiring only the user to make a simple switch with just a couple of clicks !

First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, it's the closest description I could find, if it needs moving, please move it moderators.

I have searched SevenForums and the web trying to fix this, and I'm still at a loss.

I am deploying Windows 7 Pro x64 to multiple computers using sysprep. Sysprep runs fine and completes great, the issue is when opening IE for the 1st time after the system is deployed. Users get a warning the fist time and then it opens the manage search providers dialog box. NOTE: I'm trying to search from the ADDRESS BAR, I have removed windows Live search!!! Just so no ones confused on how I want to have this working.

Warning (similar to this):
" Search Provider Default says "a program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for IE, IE has reset this setting to your original search provider (Google).. and IE will now open search settings to change a setting"?

I've toyed with changing the registry directly, but I feel there has to be a way to do this through Sysprep.

Here is the section from my sysprep xml file..

<component name="Microsoft-Windows-IE-InternetExplorer" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

Go to upper right, search providers. Click on the little down arrow, next to magnifying glass. Click on manage then check, stop programs from suggesting changes to providers. Good Luck. Tell me if this works out.

Anyone notice lately that MS seems to have removed all traces of google, save google maps & translator, from their addons gallery and accelerators.

This is only recently, maybe in the last month I think.

I've even tried create my own search provider via www.ieaddons/en/createsearch
but where as this was working 3 days ago, now it's mysteriously failing each time.

So today I found another way to install the search provider. Thinking I had a good
enough workaround to apply it to other systems I tried it on a computer with just Bing.
Turns out that method is no longer available either. It's like a systematic culling of google.

How strange is that?

Anyone else have any luck installing the google search provider in the last week?

General rule applies to any online seller: look for one that sells a lot of the part, and read the reviews. If they sell a lot of replacement batteries and their customers are generally happy then you have a good shot at being happy too.

Hi there

I need a little help repairing a machine. I have currently removed a lot of spyware from a friends Windows XP machine (most of it being MyWebSearch I believe). I useed Malwarebytes to scan the system top to bottom and removed all known traces of malware. I restated the machine and everything appeared fine at first until I tried to use the built in provider-toolbars with ie7.

Firstly I noticed that Yahoo search provider-toolbar was working and Bing and Google were just hanging or bringing up 404 errors.

I removed all provders apart from Yahoo and tried to re-add them. Another strange observation was when I addedthe Google search provider and attempted to set it as the default provider that it wouldnt do it. It wasnt until I reloaded the webpage that the google provider was there.

Another thing I noticed about the Bing/Google providers is that the small graphical icons were not added...they were just little generic spyglass icons as if they wasn't being installed properly.

I also tried updating to ie8 to try and solved the problem until later I realised that all browsers were locked out in the same manner. Even typing www.google.co.uk into ie/firefox/safari wouldnt work neither. Google was locked out totally.

Unfortuantely he wont use the Yahoo search.

I then tried to backdate the system prior to him getting the malware in the first place but the problem still persisted. No search providers.

Another minor thing I noticed is that the hotma... Read more
