IBM ThinkCentre 8199 has black screen cant get to anything to install or uninstall?

Q: IBM ThinkCentre 8199 has black screen cant get to anything to install or uninstall?

While I was gone a friend? tried to upgrade my video card from the original intel to a Nvidia Tnt2 so they could play games faster I guess. Now the monitor is black and there is no available graphics to enter the bios, the safemode or anything else. I know a little, very little bit about computers but if someone could tell me how I can follow instructions to get my computer back up and running. Thank you for any input

Preferred Solution: IBM ThinkCentre 8199 has black screen cant get to anything to install or uninstall?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkCentre M92 from a friend and its been working perfectly until recently where was having some issues with booting. I had a look on here if there was any BIOS updates to which there was, so i used Lenovo System Update to do this. Now i am facing an issue where it will no longer boot at all, i get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner, i've entered the BIOS and done F9 load optimized defaults and then saved and exit makes no difference. i've tried making a bootable USB and CD to flash the bios again but it just keeps loading the same screen no matter what i try. Could someone please help me as im out of ideas and hope its not broken all together

I have the ThinkCentre Edge 91z for quite a while now but the monitor isn't displaying anything anymore. It all started about 2 weeks ago, the monitor would randomly turn black and display weird pixels over the screen but the screen would still go back to normal after a short time (about 10 seconds). After that i decided to restard the pc but the monitor wasn't displaying anything, It would only show me the "power saving mode" message and goes to sleeping mode after that.Sometimes i manage to get out of sleeping mode, the monitor starts displaying the same weird pixels for about 5 seconds and goes back to sleeping modeI even tried to connect my computer to a laptop with a HDMI cable but it won't display anythingThese are the 2 things the monitor displays when the computer gets out of sleeping mode

Good Afternoon, I work for an ICT company that primarily deals and sells Lenovo Hardware. Over the past few months we have had an ever increasing issues with ThingCentre workstations showing black or white bars at the top or bottom of the screens. This seems to only happen when using programs such as Adobe, Chrome etc and stops the user interacting with anything under the bar. The only fix once it appears is to restart the workstation. We have attempted to upgrade, downgrade, remove and reinstall every driver I could get my hands on (as per Lenovo supports usual request) even to the point of completely reimaging multiple of these workstations to no change. I am well and truly grasping at straws, I have tried multiple different screens across multiple different workstations with multiple different connections, adapters, etc. I can't seem to find anything at all online and only end up confusing support when I try and get in contact with anyone. I also now have a client on a Carbon X1 displaying the same issues on the Laptop screen (No issue with the external) Please find example Pictures below,

Hi everyone,

I'll get straight to the point. My brother's laptop has the black screen of death. For those not familiar with this, it is a black screen with a moving cursor and nothing else. Here is the cause:

He was running on Windows XP. I'm not sure which specific edition. I think it was Home Professional. He decided that he wanted to get the Windows 7 skin. Here's where the mistake comes in. He did not read the comments/reviews. He scanned it for viruses and nothing showed up. He decided to then uninstall it after finding out how buggy it was. It turns out that the .dll files were messed up with during the uninstall, and now it gets past the Dell POST and goes to a black screen. Here is the website for reference: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Vista-Transformation-Pack-Download-32042.html. For reference, I also read online that AVG alters the original .dll's, so just noting that the laptop used AVG Avast for Virus Protection. Also had AUSLogics on it as well.

Now, here is what I tried:

1. I used the XP SP2 CD, and booted from it. I used the Recovery Console, and tried several command prompts. I tried dskchk /r and bootcfg /fixboot commands. Neither worked.

2. Instead of using the Recovery Console, I went to the installation menu and recovered from there. Didn't work either.

3. I tried starting up in safe mode and Last Known Working Config, but neither works as well. Safe Mode appears with the black screen with white text saying S... Read more

Hi there.I was recently reinstalling windows 7 on my old laptop pavilion dv6-6007el and had to install the drivers again with it. The thing is, that seller declared that it uses intel hd graphics card and after few attempts to install them from hp website (even in compatibility mode) it still didnt work. Then I tried the next best thing (thinkingThat seller just lied and remembering seeing catalyst control center when the laptop actually worked) and installed AMD drivers which were said to be for this model also. After a reboot the screen got black and wont change even after several reboots. Is there any way to remove this bad driver?

Hi all

Half way through the Windows 7 Repair install the monitor drivers seem to have corrupted. The screen works fine up to the Windows logo on a black background, then the screen goes dead.

Everything is still working underneath, key presses seem to affect the hard disk, caps lock works, I can even hibernate with the sleep key, but I can't get Windows running so I can install the monitor drivers (or do anything else).

Repair Install did ask me to uninstall the ATI Catalyst drivers, but the screen worked fine after.

I have tried:Restarting
Typing my Win 7 license key and pressing return
Connecting to an external monitor via HDMI
Booting from a USB and DVD Win7 installer disk and trying the Startup Repair, Restore, installing drivers (I think they only go into memory), etc.
As above but using the DOS prompt, copying fresh copies of the monitor driver files inf/monitor.pnf inf/monitor.inf and sys32/drivers/monitor.sys then rebooting
Trying every option in the BIOS (although nothing was promising - was hoping to turn off PnP but there was no option)
Trying a new repair install by booting from the Win7 disk - it boots, loads fine, but at the compatibility check demands I start Windows then run the installer from within Windows
Is there any way to avoid a fresh Windows install? All I need to do, I think, is install a different video driver, and I have full access to the file system.

Thanks for all providing valuable suggestions in my previous thread Win 7: Black screen on boot up, before login screen?

As I am picking the clean install option for my resolution, I am opening this new thread.

I reviewed the tutorials (Macrium) of this community. I found Macrium Reflect Free (Version: 6.0.753 (21 July 2015)) for download.

I downloaded/installed above Macrium to working PC. This version has an option to create Macrium Reflect rescue media on CD, DVD, or USB stick upon installing on working PC. I created a rescue media USB.

I created complete HDD image of my unbootable (Z580), before doing clean win 7 install. I am going to clean install Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) using my OEM KEY.

I posted the OEM DISKMAP in my previous thread Post # 90

I find System (d:\) 200 MB Windows_7 (OS) ( c:\) 653.44 GB & my Lenovo_data (e:\) 25.47 GB. Lenovo says, if I change the partition configuration, it will make built-in Lenovo recovery unusable.

I like the idea of adopting infrequent system changes (adding new programs etc) and frequent data changes (growing user documents) in image backup strategy. I mean taking system partition (d:\ + c:\) image back up as and when I add new programs and taking data partition (e:\) image backup periodically.

How do I re-structure my DISKMAP to have effective periodical image backup without disrupting built-in Lenovo recovery?

Are there any Windows 7 disk partition recommendation/guidelines?

Basically i had the black screen issue upgrading to windows 8 from 7 on an HP Dv6. This was my fourth install of Windows 8 on laptops. one A6 toshiba one i5 and one i3 lenovo laptop. After install and setup it seems to have an issue getting to personalize screen. Based on the fact that the HP Dv6 and the A6 toshiba had almost identical software and the same brand graphics card/processor(issue only appeared on the HP Dv6). Well guess what there is a simple solution. Before you do this upgrade (if you have simply revert back to win7). I have tested this 3 times and it has worked.

While still running windows 7 download and install Advance System Care 6.
When it is installed make sure the system monitor works and DO NOT REMOVE IT as it is the only active app running on windows 8 black screen.
So after the install if you have the black screen you will notice that it is completely black BUT the system monitor is still running.
Click on the small arrow on the top corner of the monitor and simply click scan when the drop down appears.
Run everything but vulnerability fix registry fix disk scan and disk defragment.
Then click scan and repair.(wait for it to finish)
Then simply restart from the shutdown menu on iobit system monitor.
It will take awhile to restart and when it does you will get a black screen with text. It is iobit defragging your registry. After that it should bring up your new windows 8 working fine.

A:Black screen when trying to install from USB/DVD

I'm guessing you are encountering an issue that might be graphics related. With that said, you can try these suggestions:

Make sure you are running the latest bios version
Set your bios to optimized defaults (no overclocking)
Check to see if your first choice graphics is set to PCI-E
If not, adjust accordingly
Try a clean install again

OR

Make sure you are running the latest bios version
Unplug your GTX 750 (optional)
Move the monitor cable to your integrated port
Set your bios to optimized defaults (no overclocking)
Check to see if your first choice graphics is set to integrated (or whatever it is called in your bios)
Try a clean install again.
If successful, plug your PCI-E grahics card back in and move the monitor cable back to same.
Reboot and see what happens.
If the addition of the PCI-E fails (after the OS installation) then at least you will know the cause.
Good luck,

Hi all

I purchased Windows 8 upgrade recently and put it on a USB stick. I have WIndows 7 Ultimate on a 2-drive SATA RAID 1 array that has 2 partitions, one for Win7 and the other for documents etc. I also have 2 video cards and 3 displays, one display is HD to the TV.

I just bought a Samsung 250GB SSD to install WIndows 8 on as a fresh install with the intention of gradually setting it up and later deleting Windows 7. So I connected the SSD and it was recognized fine. I started the setup off the stick, it rebooted once and I got the boot menu. I clicked Windows 8 and a few seconds in it restarted (I missed the actual screens as I wasn't looking). So it rebooted again and I got the Windows 8 bootup screen with the little circles circling, but it goes black. No boot menu or anything. After 5 minutes, I rebooted and the same thing.

So I unplugged the SSD and rebooted. I got a boot menu this time saying the Win8 drive was missing, and hit F9 for alternate OS. I hot F9 and Windows 7 started to boot. Then I got chkdsk warnings. I let it scan my drives and it rebooted. I got the chkdsk warnings again so I just ignored and Windows 7 started.

Can anyone help me out here?

Also, assuming I get Windows 8 installed, can I unplugged my Raid array with Win7 and still start Windows 8 on the SSD or does the Win7 drive have the only boot menu.

Thanks guys

Hi, I have an issue with booting to Win7 which is being resolved in the thread Win 7 install to UEFI / GPT but another issue I have in attempting to complete this install is how to make a Windows 7 Repair Environment UEFI bootable USB flash drive using only Windows 8. This is because I have got a Win7 installed but the screen is completely black so wondered if I could do a ?repair?. The repair ISO files I have been able to download if installed using Rufus are not UEFI images and I have tried adding the bootx64 file to correct USB folder but still cant get a success. Is there a downloadable ISO suitable for UEFI booting please?

If you have another thread dealing with this then where is it and why are you starting a second thread?

You'd not be able to do a Repair Install with a black screen since it is done from within the OS.

The first question about a black screen is whether there is any signal to it at all even the BIOS post? If not have you tried another monitor?

Hi all,

So I have dealt with this problem several times now...

A few times getting through it fine but always get too excited and don't log how I managed to get through it.

I recently reformatted and can't get my drivers right. I had spent hours looking on forums and have had no successful answer.

I have tried different gfx drivers old and new.

So here's my basic issue: I get my mobo driver installed (and for a 990fx saber tooth with an and fx 4170 chip) then I reboot as it asks for. I go to install my gfx driver next and it loads all well. Then I reboot and hit the brick wall. I can't get past the win logo screen to the log on. I know it is there as the sound plays the log on toon. My monitor basically resets and flashes dvi as a new input and then goes blank as If it is turning off.
My thing is that I know it isn't the driver or the card or monitor.

It has worked before effortlessly. I feel like it is software side that something isn't clicking right.
Or is it power that's not working properly?

Anyways I'm open to hear any suggestions or troubleshooting methods.

I am about to uninstall my gfx driver and try to go back to basics. Turn off the computer, unplug it and remove 2 sticks of ram ( currently running 4 sticks of 4gb each, used to have 3 monitor display running until recently) then I am going to make sure I only have one of my hdd's plugged in and try again.

Thanks in advance.

Unplug one of the HD's to try install.

Try booting the DVD using one-Time BIOS Boot Menu key, with the HD set as first to boot.

Try wiping the older HD first: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Hello,
I was installing the AMD beta driver and suddenly, black screen. It somehow restarted and I logged in, but I saw a black screen and after a few seconds, I was thrown back to the login screen. It was the same in safe mode! Please, is there any way to uninstall the driver without a complete wipe? I don't want to start from the beginning again 😭

I have a HP Pavillion zv6000 laptop with XP Home Service Pack 3.
Malwarebyte's found some trojans, when I restarted after removing them the laptop went into a reboot loop. When I disabled automatic restart the blue screen appeared and read 'STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.' Safe modes, last known configuration did not work. I did a repair install using my Windows XP cd and everything seemed to be working fine, files copied and no errors appeared. It finished, restarted and went to a black screen with a moveable cursor. Same thing happens in safe mode, only with 'safe mode' text across the top. Alt+ctrl+del brings up nothing. I have seen seen a lot of similar posts with people suggesting to use the recovery console, but I'm nervous since the instructions I used to do the repair install said in big bold letters NOT TO GO INTO THE RECOVERY CONSOLE! Is that the only way to go and will I lose all of my files?? Help would be much appreciated!

A:Black Screen after Repair Install

Hi a repair install - does not always work and if the system was infected, the infected file, files may still be there.
And using the Recovery Console - will do less to repair the system, than the Repair Install did.

I'd use another Pc and download a Rescue Disk.

I recently tried to do a repair install of my win xp pro, but it would get to the blu e set-up screen and freeze around the installing devices part. I then reconfigured my ide cables connected to my cd-rom drives and attempted it again. The second time, i let it run and after the windows logo screen finished loading, my screen would flicker once and then i would see my mouse which i could move around. I've tried to reinstall windows xp pro a few times after this fiasco but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to this? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,
I was installing windows 10 (8.1 before) on my Dell inspiron 15 7000 series (7537), and it progressed to restarting after the installing drivers step, but after the restart and going through the dell startup screen, everything went black. The HDD light is stuck on and not flickering like it normally does. There is no cursor or anything on the screen, it's just black. I waited for an hour and nothing changed, so I thought maybe it was frozen, so I restarted the computer via hard reset, which took it to a "attempting to recover update" screen, but after a few seconds on that screen it went immediately back to the black screen.
Its been about 30 min since that hard restart and its still black, HDD light still on, and nothing seems to be happening. Does anyone have any solutions to this???
Thanks!

If I've posted this in the incorrect forum, please move to me to where I need to be. thanks.

Okay, Here Goes:

Last night, I had the yellow shield stating updates were ready for install. As usual, I clicked it and it was Service Pack 3. I exited all programs and let it go along it's way and install.

After it finished it's installation, it ran scandisk upon boot and had quite a few errors and fixes that it stated it went through.

When it finally got done with all that stuff, it went straight past the Windows splash page to nothing but a blank screen and an error box that is titled "lsass.exe - Bad Image" and states in the error box "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\MPR.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I click "OK" and go to a useless black screen from which my only option is to hold the power button down to restart. No task manager or anything responding. No left or right clicking response and no response when I hit the "windows" button on the keyboard.

Now, onto Safe Mode Start results:

Same error message pops up and I click "OK". The screen DOES say SAFE MODE in all four corners and across the top is "Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp.080413-2111: Service Pack 3).

Still no response to any action I attempt. No Task Manager or anything.

I'm SERIOUSLY stuck here.

I ran Recovery Console off an XP sp2 install cd and did ... Read more

change the port where you have the numberpad connected.

If that fails, then uninstall the drivers and reboot then reinstall them.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn it yourself? Try burning another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Or try install install using USB flash stick: How to: install Windows (any version from XP to Win7) from a USB/flash drive | Featured | dotTech

Remove all but 2gb of Ram to try install. Test your RAM using memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes or overnight.

Wipe the HD before install using this method: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
Test the HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
From the WIn7 DVD Command Line run Disk Check

Reset the CMOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixthe.../clearcmos.htm Try setting SATA controller in BIOS setup to AHCI, then IDE mode.

I'm installing Windows 7 on this Dell laptop, which has no DVD drive, by a USB key.
Problem:
1. BIOS loaded with optimal defaults.
2. Set USB key at first.
3. Starting windows logo appears.
4. BLACK screen with mouse. Mouse moves BTW.
Specs:
2GB ram, 250GB HDD set to AHCI mode.
I tried all the possible fixes listed on the web but nothing works.
Also, there's no windows 7 already installed in it so please don't suggest DISKPART commands because I don't get that screen where I'd shift+F10.
Tried to boot Ubuntu but it gives some error after that the logo appears and keeps on going.

I've tried installing numerous operating systems including:
Fedora 14 (x86 and 64 bit)
Ubuntu 9.10 (x86 and 64 bit)
Windows 7 (64 bit)

the issue is the box stops at a black screen with a blinking cursor (linux) or the windows 7 loading screen depending on OS.

my parts are as follows:
MSI 890GXM-G65 AM3
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX
ASUS GeForce GTX 460

The memory passes memtest86+ after 4 hours

I cant seem to isolate the problem down to one part
any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated
i have a hunch that its the power supply not being able to handle everything but cant seem to verify

A:Stuck at black screen during install

I would try removing as many non-essential things from the machine to start with (sound cards, maybe half your RAM, USB devices other than kb+mouse, firewire devices, etc.) Also, you might want to check your bios to see if there's a special setting for memory while installing an OS. I doubt your problem is your powersupply if you can run for 4 hours on a memtest and I doubt it's really the mem if you're not getting any failures. Last thing I'd try is swapping out a video card - I did have an issue once where I'd freeze and couldn't believe it was the video card causing it till I popped that card into another machine and the same thing happened.

I get a black screen on Windows 7 directly after the install. This has been going on for weeks and I cannot solve it. I am running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and I have another partition for Data and my future Windows so I can run dual boot to check it out.

My laptop came with 4 partitions, 2 of which are for the recovery and the Acer Arcade deluxe crap. I deleted the recovery partition after imagining it, I also did the same with the Acer Arcade partition. THese are now unallocated space.

I have an Acer 5920G with ATi Radeon HD 3470 256mb Card, 4 Gigs memory. I have been running a dual display with Vista. I have the bios 1.3811 when the most recent is 1.3813 but my friend has my bios and the same laptop and he runs Windows 7 fine. I am running a late copy of Windows 7.

After installation and bootup I am presented with a black screen and flashing cursor top left. The hardrive is inactive and it stays permanently this way. Booting in safe mode or low res does not work, and it show's that the system stops/hangs at Classpnp.sys.

I am not prepared to take out memory as I should not have to.

1) I unplug all USB devices, including mouse
2) I unplug 2nd monitor
3) I have reburnt the files at lowest speed using Imageburn and Nero.

This still makes no difference.

If I format my drive totally will it solve the problem?
If i format the drive and do not go for dual boot will this work?

Im wondering if its my dual display because even when i ... Read more

My laptop Acer Aspire 5750-6831 worked perfectly for about two years with windows 7 64 bit, and after migrating to Windows 10, now presents the following problem:

Only the blue LED of utility power and the fan turn on. Nothing else works even keyboard or mouse - the screen is totaly black. To turn off, I hold the power button for 5 seconds, it shuts down. It is impossible to boot from CD or USB.

I read somewhere that the problem may be caused by incompatibility of bios. It would then be necessary to use a USB stick with a specific software to boot and install an updated bios. It seems that there is a procedure for doing so. Does anyone know how to do this?
