I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an 11" Ideapad 100S 11IBY and I clean installed ubuntu 16.04. I took backup of the entire eMMC drive, then wiped it clean and installed Ubuntu 16.04. Ubuntu worked fine until I performed the update by sudo apt-get update/upgrade after which it stopped booting and goes into a boot loop. I know how to make a 32bit firmware UEFI bootable USB but now the same UEFI bootable USB can't boot.I actually just need to boot as I have the clone of the entire eMMC with me on a separated hard disk which I can restore if there is a successful boot. I am just stuck with messages:"ubuntu boot failed" followed by,"Default boot deviceMissing or boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key, Then select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media."The EFI boot devices options are always disabled in the boot menu and not even the Windows 10 USB (uefi) is working. I also tried the rEFInd boot manger on a bootable USB. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

I have an Ideapad N581 that I am having issues with when booting. I have installed a Kingston 120gig SATA drive and once the POST times out the computer boots from. The issue I believe is the BIOS is not recgognizing the drive right away. The computer stays in POST for about 5 minutes and then eventually finds the SSD and Boots to windows 10. I have seen posts that other users with this laptop have been successful in installing an SSD. What am I missing? I have looked for a BIOS update and have not been able to find one that is newer than my 2013 update. Please help...

I recently just got a new Ideapad 100s and I have Windows 10 currently installed on the computer. I want to start using Linux, but I can't seem to boot the OS from my USB key. I have reached the BIOS on the computer, but there seems to be minimal options for the user to change. Below are links to two images of how the BIOS and Boot Menu look like currently. As you can see, the USB option is not available in the Boot Menu. Can someone instruct me on which settings I should change in order to start using Ubuntu?

The manual say not to delete recovery partition. 2. If one day I decide to install back Win 10, how can I do it since there are no copy of Win 10 that come with this laptop and no product key as well.

Hi Luciusverus1995 , You can find your windows 810 key inside the UEFI bios of your ideapad , so if you want to reinstall it properly , its possible , when windows 10 installation program start , it will detect automaticly your activation key in the UEFI bios , but be sure to have the correct installation program for your windows 10 edition ( Home , Pro ... ) .You can download windows 10 iso at the microsoft official site , you will find an media creator software that allow you to download , and make a windows 10 dvd or usb thumdrive installation.  But you can install Linux next to windows OS , ( Using Ubuntu installation guide for exemple )Hope that help you

I got the Ideapad 100s last year. Works great, but a Windows update screwed it up, and I can't install ANY OS anymore. When I boot 10 from my USB, it freezes on the first setup screen. Even DEBIAN! It freezes on the language setup. It started doing this sort of recently. When it freezes, the power light goes out and the caps lock light doesnt turn on, so I have to force turn it off. The UEFI doesn't give me many options to change, besides secure boot, which I've tried both on and off. I've been trying different USB's, seeing if it was the stick issues, but so far, the boot menu doesn't detect them, except one of them. I want to be able to use this again, but at the moment, I can't. Help?

I have tried different versions of windows, different formatting (mbr/gpt) etc, added the bootia32.efi file to the boot folder all to no avail. The BIOS and boot options on this machine seem very restrictive, I have never encountered this before on any other machine.Any help would be appreciated as this pc is coming very close to going into a skip.

Hello everybody! I own an Ideapad 100s and recently tried a clean install using Novo button. The process somehow failed so I got stuck with the boot logo. Thanks to the info in the forum I managed to reset BIOS settings to enable USB boot and then tried to install Win10 from USB. The installer loads just fine but then comes up a window saying there's a missing driver, which could be anything from USB, DVD, or HDD. Any idea how to overcome this?I'm losing my **bleep** over this notebook. Thanks

I have a new Z Book G3 that came with Windows 10 pre-installed. It has two disks. The firstis a 1 TB spinning disk and the other is a 256 GB SSD. Nothing is on the SSD. I'm attempting to create a dual-boot machine with Fedora Core 24 as the other OS. I've resized the Windows partition using Disk Management, and that seems to have been successful because I can still boot into Windows 10. I've tried to install FC 22 and various versions of FC 24, as well as Ubuntu 16.04 with no success. I'm using FC iso DVDs in a USB DVD drive as the install media. The installation from the live meda FC disk goes well until a certain point. The last line printed to the screen by the installer is always: [ OK ] Started User Manager for UID 1000 Then it hangs forever. There are hundreds of lines before that line, but I can't figure out how to capture them. The lines just above the failure are: [ OK ] Created slice User Slice of liveuserStarting User Manager for UID 1000[ OK ] Started Session 1 of user liveuser I've got Secure Boot disabled and Legacy Boot enabled in the BIOS. I've also tried the "Troubleshooting" low-res graphics installation option of the FC iso DVDs. Same result. I've checked the integrity of the installation iso's using SHA256SUM. I've had similar (not identical) problems with Ubuntu. Anyone have any suggestions for how I can install linux on this Z Book? Chad

I'm not really to familiar with windows, so I'm not sure what the cause could be. I'm assuming it's drivers, but can anyone please help and provide some guidance? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, I recently upgraded the Storage with a WD green 120 GB M.2 SSD. Post upgradation, i installed Windows 7 into the new Drive. After dealing with several error messages and trying all workarounds the system was able to boot and became a working machine again.  I accidentally formatted the eMMC i.e. previously my C: drive and faced a lot of difficulty in making it work. However happy that finally the system is back to its normal working condition. The only problem i am facing now is, i am not able to see the 32GB eMMC card in Disk Management or in MY Computer. Though the same is visible in Advanced Troubleshooting during pre-boot (Repair your system Option) . Though the volume is visible and is empty there, its not visible inside windows explorer after windows starts. Though it doesnt affect the system's performance now, i would like to use the 32GB memory. I tried looking for the driver but not didnt find any. I am currently using Win 7 Enterprise. My next attempt would be to upgrade to Windows 10 and see if that resolves the issue.  Please Help !

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.
Click on underlined links for further review.

Hope this answered your query.

I loved the size and price point of the Lenovo Ideapad 100S. However, of course because it only came with 30GB of hard drive space, Windows 10 basically maxed it out immediately. So, tonight I just tried to do something about it. I purchased a Samsung M.2 SSD 256 GB. I have a screenshot and I really think I installed it right. I just can't figure out how to get the bios to recognize it. Disk management doesn't show it at all. I rebooted into bios and reset defaults and restarted to no avail. What did I do wrong here? Is it just that the Ideapad can't recognize this particular M.2 SSD? Please see the screenshot I have attached. Any suggestions on how to get the bios to recognize this? Thank you ever so much for any suggestions! -Tom Tobey - Fort Wayne, USA

I have a 100s 11.6 and, of course, the memory is full.  Almost instantly.  I bought a 64gb card for it but when I go into disk management and try to delete the D partition, all 3 choices are greyed out.  Do the same with C partition and the only choice is Shrink Volume.  Is there a work-around ?? Also, reading online, all I've read says the memory is soldered in on my model.  When I pulled the back off it, I see that the boards are plugged in.  I'd be real pleased if I could buy a larger capacity board to install.  Is that possible ??  Barring any of the above, I can manually copy and paste individual files from C drive to D drive to make a bit more room on C, but not sure which ones are safe to do so or how to go about it without messing up my OS.  Yah, I'm a newbie at this stuff and need hand-hold assistance. Thanks in advance.

Unlike other laptops I've had which were able to run without the battery even in the laptop, i.e. Only plugged in, my laptop requires some level of charging before even turning on when plugged in.  is this normal or is there a setting to allow the device to turn on when plugged in. Quite a pain having to wait for it to re charge, isn't that the point of corded use? Also it seems to die pretty quickly and even when put to sleep when closed fizzles out quickly. Again is this normal?
