I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:fraps: sound recording is soft

Go to control panel \ sound \ Recording

Make sure the volume levels are up high enough and test.

Do this with everything in recording that has a green check mark.

Also, bottom right of your screen, by the time, doubleclick the speaker icon.
Make sure everything is raised, not just the main volume.

Hey,

My Fraps will not record Maple Story's sounds. I tried messing with the Fraps settings as well as with my computer's volume control settings. I tried Googling this, and it seems a lot of other people have this problem with many games. Has anyone encountered this problem/found a solution?

Thanks,
Matt

I'm using an X-Fi XtremeGamer in Win 7. I got the driver from Creative and then with Software Auto-Update I installed the Console Launcher and Alchemy.

I'm not getting any sound when recording game video. I've tried both sound source options but nothing.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I found one or two posts on the net that say that Fraps will not record sound if a game uses Alchemy. I have Alchemy installed. I may try reinstalling without it and see what happens.

A:Fraps not recording sound in Win 7

The problem now appears to be specific to one game so far (Arma). I should have tested that theory out before posting. Fraps doesn't seem to be working for Arma 2 either but for a totally different reason - game comes to almost a complete crawl when recording with Fraps.

If anyone is using the following combination to record Arma movies I'd greatly appreciate you posting in this thread:

- Vista (32 or 64-bit)
- Fraps

I'm trying to figure out if the Fraps failure in Arma is Win 7 specific as Fraps/Arma movie-making works find in WinXP. I don't have Vista so I can't test that.

UPDATE: After uninstalling the X-Fi and using the onboard Realtek sound, I was able to record sound in these videos. The problem appears to be with the beta Creative driver.

Sound with Fraps: YouTube (if you turn the sound up, the problem is much more noticable)

Sound with Emulator's recording software: YouTube

As you can see, the audio with Fraps feels like it has a bit of distortion to it, and the problem is, while I can record this game without a problem with the emulator's recording system, most games require Fraps or another software.

Thing is, Fraps records Windows sounds, while the emulator only records the game's sounds, so I feel like there's something making this interference in my computer, and yes, my mic is turned off, that's not the problem.

And when I see other people's videos that they record with Fraps they sound just fine, so I feel like changing recording software won't help, I also just updated Fraps to the most recent version.

Also, when playing I hear the game perfectly, without the sound being messed up as it is.

A:Bad quality in sound when recording with Fraps

I tried to access the youtube fraps recording and the Emulator recording samples, but it says it is "private".

Recording volume level (too high) can cause distortion or introduce low level noise. I have a recording studio and well aware of recording levels.

Here is what the Fraps site says about distortion:

How can I adjust the volume of the sound that is recorded?
You must configure the volume through the "Sounds and Audio Devices" item in the Control Panel. Use the following steps:

Click on the Control Panel and select Sounds And Audio.Click on the Audio tab.Find the Sound Recording device and click Volume.Adjust the volume for the Input that Fraps is recording from. This is usually named "What U Hear", "Record Master", or "Stereo Mixer".
If you can't see the correct Input on screen you may need to enable it by clicking on Properties in the menu and ensuring all Inputs have a check beside their name

I'm having trouble recording sound from video games in Fraps with Vista & a X-Fi sound card.

I've tried so many combinations, I had no problems under WinXP, but i've recently upgraded to Vista. The only sound i can capture is through my mic.. but i want ingame sounds captured.

The main options..

In X-Fi control panel.. its either Mic or 'What you hear', there are others such as Line In, etc but afaik these are not relevant

In Vista Recording panel, either Mic or 'What you hear' (plus other non relevant ones)

In Fraps its either Detect Best Sound Input or Use Windows Input. Sound device is always 'Vista'.. And depending on what Windows is set to depends what you see in Fraps.

Can someone with the same set up please let me know their setting..i.e someone with Vista, X-Fi and Fraps...

I have enabled my onboard sound and was thinking about trying to use that.. but its not ideal, (not tried it yet)

Thanks for any help.

Soo, finally recorded something with Fraps. I was quite positively suprised by the FPS stability while recording, I think I got one or two drops below the defined 30 FPS during the record (used my usual, near to max settings at 1600x1200 and recorded half-size). The MOV plays fine, looks good... But I can barely hear the loudest sounds in the video if I turn my volume to MAX. And boy, my ears rang for 3 hours when I got an IM message sound stuck up them. Since then I've tried 3 different games and using both the "Detect best sound input" and "Use Windows input" options in the sound recording options.
Any ideas how to get the sound working?

Hello

Basically, my problem is that Fraps does not record the sounds that I hear from my computer. I have the most recent Sigmatel HD audio codec and on Fraps it is set to "Detect best sound input".

It has come to my attention that I need a stereo mixer option enabled in my sound properties, which I have looked for and don't have. I've read numerous tutorials on how to fix this, such as downloading a new driver or editing the registry, but only for notebooks.

I am using Windows XP, with a Dell XPS 710 Desktop, not the M1710 notebook!

I was hoping someone could help me out with enabling this Stereo Mixer thing, thanks.

Hi, me again.
I installed Vista 64 Ultimate not too long ago and now I have a problem with sound.

I use Fraps to record and make game reviews, and now I can't record input and output at the sametime.

Meaning, I can't record in-game sound and my microphone. I'm not sure what to do. I'm telling Fraps to record sound, and to use the Windows Input. I tried using the Detect best sound input feature, but it then it only records the sound, but not microphone. So only using Windows Input will it record my mic, but no ingame sound.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Also: I am using on-board sound with a Realtek HD Audio driver. (Completely up to date)

I've been trying to do some game playthroughs with active commentary and decided to go with the newest Fraps which can record video and audio as well as microphone input. Problem is, whenever I record, my voice is always barely audible in the recorded video. All my microphone volume settings are on high, I've set the game volume as low as I could, and I've looked everywhere for a solution, but every answer is always "raise your microphone volume". And I've come to the conclusion that Fraps is the cause of the problem because when I do a mic test the volume is fine, and online others can hear me clearly.

Is there a solution to this besides having to use a separate recording program and needing to sync it with the video?

I have the Full version of FRAPS and I thought this would fix the annoying audio problem.

The problem is there is no audio! When I record in-game videos I can't hear anything! With both San Andreas and Farcry!

I have a crappy Onboard AC'97 Sound that came with my EPOX mobo and I have a DSP-500 Plantronics USB headset, Fraps Detects both of them and I have switch to both of them in default and stereo mix, still no SOUND! I have no SOund Card, do I need one? Iam getting frustrated! I spent $37 on a peice of crap!

A:Having Trouble with FRAPS Audio recording in Movies!

I wouldn't say you bought a piece of crap, more like downloaded one. It's Frapps that is causing the issue here because it doesn't work well with USB. I have the same problem, whenever I record a game the audio never arrives. This is because Frapps puts USB ahead of all the traditional audio sound cards and jack headsets. Stupid I know.

So to solve it you have to take out your USB headset whilst playing, so you'll hear no audio while playing, but you'll get the audio from Frapps that you wanted. If you don't like this then you can buy a super cheap (presumbly rubbish) headset that uses jacks and plug that in whenever you record, this way you'll get the recorded audio and you'll hear it too, unless the headset you bought was so pathetic that your ears started bleeding in which case your out of luck. (That probably won't happen).

trying to record videos with fraps (i know, not the best thing to use), it is a registered real fraps. not the free version with the 30sec video limit.

i try to record videos and it seems that no matter how long the video is, it will always split the files into 3.99gb pieces. no matter how long or short the videos are, once it reaches 3.99gb, it starts recording using a new file.

now then, i brought this problem up with somebody i play an internet game with (he's a network admin for a major company) and he said that he once used fraps to make a video that was over 30gb as a project for his job. he said he didn't do anything special to allow it that he could remember. he just installed fraps, started recording, and an hour later had a 30gb video. he suggested increasing the paging file, so i did that and it had no effect.

also it seems that sometimes when recording videos, after every few videos i have to goto fraps and change the drive its writing to for some reason or the game will lag to around 1fps when recording is going on. despite none of the drives being nearly full.

as for technical specs:
6gb of ram in the pc
hd 1: sata - 129gb free
hd 2: sata - 83gb free
hd 3: sata - 109gb free
each drive also has a paging file set up that is manually set to 5gb initial size with a max size of 10gb.

so, i can't see why fraps would still cut the videos into 3.99gb pieces while recording when there is ample hard drive space, ram, and page file space to be used for rec... Read more

Yeah so I've been able to fix my dual system on both hard drives problem, but seems like my original problem still persists.

Whenever I run fraps, audacity, and warcraft III (warcraft III running by itself doesn't seem to bother anything). I blue screen after 1-2 minutes of recording (sometimes it doesn't, but when it does it does for 3-4 times every time i try).

The error message I get from BSOD is kernel data inpage error, but sometimes the BSOD would just say "a process or thread crucial to the system has unexpectedly exited or been terminated". The error code is always 0x000000004.

Let me know of any pictures you'd like me to upload. Thank you for your time.

I would assume that you have already gone to the Fraps website and read their Faqs concerning problems encountered using the product. You will note that Fraps requires a lot from your system when recording video. Does your system have the horsepower to do that? It also seems to indicate that the recorded video may be more complete than the monitored process is indicating. I'll also assume that you have tried playback of your recording(s) but I get no specific from your post that you have. If not, give it a try and see.

Hello. I've been using Fraps on several computers with no problem. But my newest laptop makes the sound of recorded videos very low. First, here are the specs:

Intel C2D P9600 @ 2.66Ghz
4GB DDR3 RAM
GeForce GTX 260M(driver up-to-date)
Realtek HD onboard audio(driver up-to-date)
320GB HDD 7200RPM
Windows XP SP3

Fraps settings:

Record Sound ticked
Detect best sound input selected
Sound Device: Realtek HD Audio input
Sound Input: Stereo Mix
(I'll skip the rest because this is a sound issue)

Volume:

All input/output volumes are maxed out except Master Volume because I use earbuds, which makes the sound very loud even at low master volume. I'm sure this is not the cause of the problem since recorded sound volume should be the same as master volume. I selected Stereo Mix as the recording device, but using either Mic or Stereo Mix made no difference.

As far as I know to get Fraps to record audio you have to set it to "What U Hear" in the Windows/Creative controls under Recording as the default recording device (and depends on which driver you have installed as to whether the option is there).

Hello. I am EpicallyAWSM.

Alright before I explain, I must tell you that I WAS able to record audio previously.

I'm having a problem while recording audio with Fraps (a game video-recording software). Previously, I was unable to find the Stereo Mix at all, until I found the Drivers CD that came with my computer.

After I installed the driver, I tested it on a few different games, but the result was still the same: no audio in my recorded files. I have double-checked, and the volume for Stereo Mix is maxed, and it is set to the default recording device. I have spent countless hours trying to find a fix for this problem, so I decided to file it in myself.

One thing though, is that I'm aware my sound card driver is a little out of date, but I am unable to update it because I get an error while running the setup file. My sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio Card" - that's all I know about it.

I'm sure my version of Fraps is capable of recording this audio, because I was able to do so before. Suddenly though I was unable to record audio and I had a problem with sound channels in Game Maker 8 (problem I will be asking in the Game Maker forum). I am unsure what to do. Please do not give me the answers I have been seeing for the past week (Check Show All Devices, make sure your volume is maxed, etc.)

Thank you

Also I hear some sort of "disc spinning" or "fan-like sound" that's loud but it's "soft" loud(like a refrigerator/freezer makes a sort of "soft" but loud sound) makes but it's not my fans. I am guessing it could be my hard drive?

Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

A:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Hi,

I recently purchased the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX and am having problems getting it to actually play any audio or record any sound.

I've browsed other threads with similar issues on this board and as such have disabled my motherboards onboard audio in my BIOS settings, have reinstalled the drivers from disc and from the Creative website, and even attempted to use Driverpack Online to download any missing drivers. However my problem still persists.

I can see that the Sound Blaster Audigy FX is present on the sound option on the control panel, but it never actually plays any sound. Additionally, whenever I try to play a test sound in the speakers advanced properties I am returned with the error "Failed to play test tone".

I've included a few screenshots that might help make things a bit more clear, and I'd be very appreciative of any help I can get with this issue.

First thing, I assume you have correctly attached your speakers to the new SoundBlaster.

As you have a separate sound card, did you disable any on-board (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS? If not, that is the first step. The on-board, is still enabled, can conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Also, temporarily disable the AMD HD audio in the Device Manager for testing (the AMD is for HDMI audio). Reboot after doing this.

Finally, although this has may not have any affect on playback, the default recording device should be the SoundBlaster "What You Hear". In the Recording sound panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show Disconnected and Disabled devices. If the SoundBlaster was installed correctly What You Hear should now show up and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

Hi,

I am super panicked at the moment. The 2-hr meeting recording I made today just will not play. And it turned into some Janet Jackson song? What is this?

Anyone had the same problem?
I recorded it using the Sound Recorder in the laptop.
The file is there, length is correct, just won't play and has this Janet Jackson thing in the properties.

Anyone could help me with this?

Greetings all,

Does anyone know what happened to the SOUND RECORDER program that was in the previous versions of Windows?

I was previously on Windows 7 and upgraded to 10 when the notifications came out last month. In W7 I was able to open the SOUND RECORDER program

and then record sounds from the video that was playing through the internet explorer I was using at that time. It did NOT matter which internet explorer I was using, be it IE or CHROME or FIREFOX, etc. I was previously able to open a video, for example youtube, and then record the sound that was playing into the SOUND RECORDER program, and then save that file on my desktop as a WMA.

I have not been able to find the SOUND RECORDER program in Windows 10. Is it gone? I've tried downloading a couple freebie programs that are similar to it, but they're not recording the sounds either. So now I'm thinking maybe Windows 10 bypassed or simply disregarded my sound card altogether, ? Is that a possibility?

Thank you all for your comments, please do not be offended if I do not respond to your questions. I think I've been pretty straight forward in what I'm asking.

Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.
Richard

There is a similar program called Voice Recorder, but it can't record sound from Windows as far as I can tell. Just microphones.

So I turned on my computer today and the startup sounds would be normal but sounds for all applications would be very soft. For example when you move the volume mixer to full it would still be really soft. The only sounds that work fine is when I am watching youtube and also when I run steam as an admin because if i dont run in admin mode I am able to barely hear the sounds but it would function normally otherwise. Please help me

I just tried out the media center but I noticed that when playing files the sound is soft. The media center splash screen is loud when I open the program but I have to turn the volume way up to have it play normal. When I use Media Portal which is almost the same as Media Center the volume is fine. I even tried uninstalling Media Portal just in case the codecs conflict or something. Is there a setting I have to change? I configured the audio in media center for 7.1 speakers.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. Mods can you move it to the Media Center section. Thanks.

The + and - sign buttons also adjust the volume in WMC... have you tried them?

I use mics over Ventrilo, a teamspeak-type program for people to talk. Randomly one day people couldn't hear me; I thought it was my mic. I bought a new one on Newegg and it has the same problem. I used the 'test hardware' app on both, and found that all three mics (both ones plugged into the jack and my mic built into the laptop) can transmit sound but only when I speak really, really close to it... and even then the sound is distorted. I thought at first it was a mic jack issue but the built-in mic has the same problem which suggests otherwise.

Anyone know how I can fix it? Do I have an internal mic volume that's just set to receive only really close sounds, or is something else screwed up?

Thanks.

I sometimes hear a soft zooming sound from the pc-case. It's sort of a vibrating sound, as if the sounds is from a fan. It's usually not hard, but it keeps going on for a long time. A few times, these vibrating sounds were quite loud, for a short time. What could this sound be, and how can it be fixed? There aren't any warning messages from windows.

So i'm trying to work on a video project in Camtasia Studio 6. However the option to record from your speakers (what you hear) is not an option. After searching the net I found one common respond is to go to Control Panel > Sound and then the Recording tab and then make sure that all disabled and hidden objects are shown. However I still can't get Sound Mix or What you hear to show up, which is quite frustrating as I am sure that is why I can't select the Speaker audio option when i'm working in Camtasia Studio, that option is grayed out.
which leads me to question, is this a possible driver issue? I was thinking about installing the Realtek Audio Driver but not sure if that would do anything different or not.
Otherwise i'm lost as every place I have looked online just suggests this as an option (checking to make sure all disabled and disconnected devices are shown in Sound)
So not sure really what to do? anyone have any suggestions or advice?
I've posted some pics that might help explain a bit better.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72117.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72105.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter.  Hold down the Power button continuously for 20 seconds then release it.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  ...
