Q: T460s - Replacement Battery Questions - Out of stock

Hi all, Quick question on battery replacements.. I have a T460s whose second battery recently showed it was having issues (on 46% of max charge available). I thought replacing the battery would be trivial but this is proving an exercise in futility. For reference the laptop type is: 20F9The battery in question is FRU: 01AV406 When I check this battery against the replacements site (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup), it indicates that the battery is out of stock. It also indicates that there are a few replacement options, 01AV407, 01AV408, 01AV405. All of which are also not in stock. After chatting with support on this issue, I was advised to call the parts department a partner - Encompass. Unfortunately, their department closes at 3pm PST which is pretty annoying. However when I search for the part (01AV406) on their website (https://lenovo.encompass.com), I'm left with an additional alternative 01AV462 (also out of stock but at least in stock 1/29). My question is, which of these sites to believe or are these all compatible? I find this a little absurd that this information is so unclear and annoying that Lenovo can't keep anything in stock.Double all that since I want to replace my primary battery as well (which will be back in stock on 3/10/19). Insert eye roll here. Any advice anyone can shed here would be apprciated or any other tips for getting these batteries replaced.

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

I would believe them on compatibility, but expected ship dates are always less reliable. I always think that I only believe ship dates after parts actually ship. My doubling ship dates is for all vendors, not just this one.

I need to replace the battery in my P-6301 Gateway Notebook. Any website recommendations?

By going to the Gateway website I was directed to four vendors selling replacement batteries. The cheapest of the four is at http://www.mundocorp.com.

For my notebook there are two choices, a 6 cell LI-ION battery for $64.00 or a 9 cell LI-ION battery for $114.00. In previous research I believe I found that the original battery was a 6 cell.

Do I need to replace the battery with the 6 cell battery only, or do I have the option of buying the 9 cell to give me more power?

Thanks for your help.

I have a T460s with 2 batteries per the attached status.  Battery 2 is discharged first, then battery 1. Issue: When battery 2 depletes, instead of switching over to battery 1, the laptop powers off without warning.  Just... POOF.  I have updated BIOS and am running Windows 10 Pro. BIOS is at N1CET58W 1.26 I have Lenovo Vantage loaded, but when I run it to check for updates, none of the 'System Update' buttons results in any action being taken.   I have done some searching but have not found any information on why the switchover from Battery 2 to Battery 1 would cause an instant power off.

My family, myself are long time Lenovo Thinkpad T users.  I currently have a T 520.  It's fine as it always has been and quite pleased,  but I would now like something much lighter and it has developed a little glitch that doesn't seem reparable.  I will still keep it as a second, back-up laptop.  I just ordered the T460s that is to my liking and right in my price range (got the basic one new from Lenovo for under $800).   But to my dismay and amazement, I keep reading and hearing about lousy battery charge times ranging from 4 to 7 hrs when it is suppose to be at least 10 hrs.  And about all kinds of efforts and ways to increase it with apparently little success.   I have searched several times in this Thinkpad T forum (and elsewhere) on the latest, up to date info and experience regarding the battery and maximizing, extending battery life for the T460s.  I have not found anything beyond around 10/16/16.    As of 2/12/17, I am wondering what battery is now going into T460s, like the one being built for me.   Is it the same as always or something diferent, new, improved? Are T460s users still having the same problems and issues with the length of the battery charge? Has anyone found something, anything that really does maximize, improve or extend T460s battery life? Thanks, Randy

I need a replacement for my H key and hinges for my T460s.  The only site that has keys for the T460s is www.quikfixlaptopkeys.com and they seem to be perpetually out of stock of the H key, both back lit and non back lit.  Lenovo in their wisdom refuses to sell individual keys and only sells the whole keyboard.  I'd be willing to pay good money if someone has trashed their computer for their fully functionl H key hinges, or if someone knows for sure of a place that sells T460s keys.  Every other site that I've searched so far only goes as high as 430 or so.  Help!!!!

Hi all. I am purchasing a new ASUS All-in-one that comes with an HDD; I want to move to an SSD. I have lots of W7 install experience, but have only used W8 on a touchscreen laptop, so I am not sure how to go about this.

There's a lot of information on HOW to do everything (Which is great), but I need some WHY info first, and it's eluding me.
My laptop has an embedded 32GB SSD used for fast start-up. But the new PC doesn't. Since I am moving to an SSD, should I create a partition for this, so that start-up is fast? Or is this partition already part of W8, and the SSD on the other machine just make it fast to load (I.E, I only need to clone the drive to the SSD).Ignoring the possibility of Crapware and customization, is there any benefit to installing from scratch on the SSD rather than cloning?

Thanks!

I broke my T460s' QHD non-touch screen (grabbed the laptop by the bezel and cracked the screen, this was never a problem on my older Thinkpads :/), and shopping for a replacement is actually a little tricky. On the back of the screen, I see:VVX14T058J0216023TP/N SD10G56715FRU 00NY406 I went to the pcsupport.lenovo.com website to look for the replacement part numbers, and it says 00NY406 and 00HN877 in the list. However there's a little dropdown on 00NY406 that says "Substitutes (2)", and shows 00HN878 and 00NY413 as well. This is the tricky part: I see in the pictures for the 00HN878, and the stickers actually say 00HM878, and VVX14T058J0016042T. Are all 40 pin connector screens with the same mounting holes compatible? When searching ebay or Amazon or aliexpress the sellers seem to suggest any of the 40 pin connector screens are cross compatible. I'm a little hesitant to buy a screen that I'm not 100% sure will fit. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hello all - I Am planning on purchasing a Lenovo notebook for my X-Mas gift. I do require a fingerprint reader as I Am in the Financial Services industry and the added security of this, has served me well in the past. My concern is the T460 line is at least four (4) years old and I do not want to purchase something which will be retired in the next few years... to this end, can anyone give a guess as to the life-cycle of this line or any newer line which offers the fingerprint reader and is good for business applications? I will like to have the option for SSD (1t) drive and an I7 or at minimum I5 with up to 20g Ram. When I purchased my T61 several years back, it was retired within a year.... this is a reason for my concern, founded or unfounded in anyones opinion? TIA for any and all input..

You can find the part list in this document: click me!

Keyboard list starts on page 5, although the backlit models start on page 6. I'm not so sure which one will be the Chilean one, I guess "ES" is for Spanish layouts, like this example: "TH-KBD,ES,CHY,BL"

I hope this helps!

I am trying to build a moderately decent gaming computer for my son and have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind helping out. 1. What is the strongest CPU it can handle?  It currently has the Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53GHz) and I've been told that my particular board will only support dual-core processors.  I've been told the Intel Core2 Duo E8600 SLB9L (3.33GHz) 6MB-FSU with 1333MHz L2 Cache will work just fine.
2.  Regarding the PSU:  Are there any specifications I need to be aware of regarding the form factor?  Will the Inspiron 530 allow for an ATX Power supply WITH a I/O button?  What wattage and voltage would be best for this endeavor (accounting for a good budget GPU)?  This leads to my next question.
3.  What's the best PCI GPU can I get for the system that won't be severely hampered by the obvious bottlenecking I'll experience?
4.  I have the latest available bios upgrade and know my system can handle 8GB of ram running at 800MHz.  Best brand for the buy?
I am aware that this system has limitations, but I've seen far older systems with less capabilities be quite capable of playing recently developed games.
Idealistically, I'd like for my son to be able to play games where he can average 60-70+ FPS (I know how important this is for first-person-shooter games).

I appreciate any help and feedback!  Please be mindful I am on a budget but that I... Read more

Hi, You can see any information regarding your batteries by doing the following: type:  "CMD" in "type here to search" bar in windows 10Then right click on it and run as administratorThen copy and paste the following line:powercfg /batteryreport /output c:\Energy_Report.html  This will generate a Battery report in your c:\  folder, something like this:  You will get the model, and serial number of your batteries and also the design capacity and the full charge capacity, this way you will be able to see how much life is remining in your battery. And regarding the way to replace the battery, all you need is to remove some screws to have access to your battery. you can find some good tutorials in youtube. Any comment or doubt please let me know Regards!

I'm looking at buying a T460s or T460p. I looked at the T460s hardware manual, and it seems like the batteries are not user-replaceable. Is this correct? If the battery life is not long enough for my requirements, I would want to carry around spare batteries. If the battery is not replaceble on the road, how about when the battery reaches end of life (after 2-3 years). Is it possible to replace simply by ordering a new one from the website? Also, can anyone from Lenovo tell me why the T460p and T460 are not available on the Japanese Lenovo website? Since Lenovo USA does not ship outside of USA and I am located in Japan, it seems that I am stuck with ordering from whatever selection is available in Japan, and they do not have either the T460 to T460p on their website.

I have had my T460s for about a month now. The battery life has been bad, but that's not my issue here. The issue is that one of my batteries is now at 87% maximum capacity: Battery 0: design capacity 1813 mAh, last full capacity 1787 mAh = 98%Battery 1: design capacity 2032 mAh, last full capacity 1786 mAh = 87% Is this enough to complain to customer service? It actually even went down from 88% since one day ago.

Where are you getting these readings for the Design Capacity? The battery capacities are:

Main: 23.54 Wh
Secondary: 26.33 Wh

Those numbers do not change. Have you tried to do a Battery guage reset?

To update your drivers, you can follow the steps below:

For Windows 10:
Hit Start

Three years ago I "upgraded" from a T440s to a T460s and I've been suffering the consequences of the T460's terrible battery life ever since. I'm a mobile worker working mostly in cafes, often outside, so battery life and screen brightness are vital for me. The T440s was brilliant - I got 8-10 hours of battery time up to the end of its lifetime, usually working at full screen brightness. Now, with the T460s, the screen is unexpectedly less bright (why?), making it difficult to work outdoors, and at this point I'm down to maybe 2 or 2.5 hours of battery life (from the original 3-3.5), meaning I have to carry the cord with me, thus negating the weight advantages of the T460s over the T440, plus deal with finding places to plug in at cafes. I've periodically perused this forum for fixes, assuming that an issue this big that obviously affects so many people would be dealt with by Lenovo in time. It seems however that Lenovo is simply writing this one off, and people are slowly upgrading to other models. This is not an option for me so I need to find some way to improve the situation on my current machine. Forum experts, is there perhaps some fix that I've overlooked? Does anyone have any tips? Lenovo, what do you have to say about this? Thanks in advance.

Hello,I have a user here who has a T460s laptop who's batteries are no longer holding a sufficient charge. Pretty sure the laptop has 2 (internal) batteries. When the use takes the laptop out of the office, it's losing power afterabout an hour, maybe an hour and a half. After an hour, I was able to open a chat session with a tech, who said if we clicked on the battery icon down in the sys.tray, there'd be an indicator if the battery/batteries were bad. However, we did that and there is no such indicator oralert. Clicking on the same batttery icon and then clicking on Battery Settings, there are no notifications posted in the windowthat opens giving any indication of any issues with the batteries. Despite that, the batteries no longer retain the charge they once did. Is there any onboard diagnostic that can be run to determine which, or both batteries are bad?  Or any other locationwhere there might be helpI need to weigh the cost of replacing the batteries vs. having the user get a new laptop. Thanks very much! Jim

After upgrading the BIOS, I am having an issue with my battery. I finally got around to troubleshooting an outstanding issue with my RAM (It was maxing out at 10 of my 20gb of RAM), I found that updating my BIOS resolved the issue. I purchased the laptop in May 2016, and this was the first time I had updated my BIOS. I used Lenovo Solution Center / Vantage to run the updates. I updated my BIOS to N1CET68W (6/20/18). While troubleshooting I ran battery report, and I don't think it is a coincidence that the date I updated the BIOS on is also the date at which one of my batteries stopped working - Attached with a line drawn for when I updated the BIOS. My battery now caps out at 62%. Battery 1: 68% and charging. Battery 2: 0%. Battery 2 will not charge any more. Battery 1: 00HW022, Sanyo. Design Capacity: 23510 mWh, full charge capacity: 17840mWh (Acceptable degradation for 2 year old battery)Battery 2: 01AV406, SMP. Design Capacity: 26060 mWh, full charge capacity: 1770mWh (Significant drop-off once BIOS updated). I have already performed laptop surgery and made sure both batteries are connected. Unplugged both of them, and hard reset my laptop (holding power button for ~2 minutes with batteries out). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and then updating them. Windows 10 x64.

Hi, I am facing a problem with a T460s running on Windows 10 1709. Each time this laptop starts on battery power/runs on batterypower/switches between main power & battery power, it will experince a BSOD and/or a scrambled display followed by a total freeze after 1-3hours. In addition, it still goes into Hybernate regardless of the fact that all sleep & hybernate functions have been deactivated. I have run numerous tests to check if this is a hardware problem, and each time I get a clean bill of health for the hardware tests. I tried to run the online Lenovo test for the hardware, but I seem to have a problem installing the Lenovo tool. Can anybody help on this?

My W540 is asking me to consider replacing the battery. The original battery is a 57++, 9 cells, 11.1V, 8.96Ah 100Wh, Li-ion00 battery. Searched on ebay, cannot find an exactly the same one.  The closest match one is this:  Some 9 cells 57++ is 10.8V, 9.21Ah and Li-ion 20  ----- does this one is better than mine original because of its lower V?----- do you have a reliable seller from ebay or amazon to recommend ? From the Battery Maintenance window I found there is a Battery Health Mode feature somewhere. But where I can find it??

I've been using a t460s for a few years and like it a lot - except for the terrible battery life. In my normal usage, I get 2, maybre 2.5 hours of battery life, and from other this on this forum and elsewhere online my battery life experience on the t460s isn't unusual. So, can anyone who's been using a t480s comment on the real-world battery life? I am a bit of a power user, and my machines are maxed out in specs (20GB RAM, 1TB NVME, i7, etc.) If the battery life of the t480s is substantially better than the t460s I might be tempted to upgrade, otherwise I'll just keep lugging around my external battry packs and being 'that guy' at cafes without plugs. From the specs the battery capacities are similar, so I'm not really hopeful there's a big difference.  Thanks in advance!

Hi, I bought my T460s about four years ago and havenever had any issues until now. Recently (within the past month), I have experienced 2 problems with the battery. First, the drainage on battery suddenly became about 1% per minute, when it used to take hours of high memory usage to drain most of a full battery. Second, below 40% charge, the laptop is liable to suddenly turn off without warning. I haven't changed how I used the computer, and the change in battery life happened basically overnight. At this point I get about an hour's use out of my battery not really doing much with my computer before it gets into hard-shutoff territory under 40%. The built-in Windows 10 battery monitoring metrics don't tell me much since it only looks at apps by % usage, and I really doubt Chrome suddenly became capable of draining 60% of a battery in an hour compared to how much battery life I used to get with Chrome open. What steps can I take to resolve this problem, or even just further identify the cause? Thanks.
