BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error and tapping/holding F8 does not work. Computer just keeps restarting over and over. Help!

Q: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error and tapping/holding F8 does not work. Computer just keeps restarting over and over. Help!

Then it just keeps rebooting, repeating the same error message, rebooting, on and on.
F8 does not work. I've tried tapping it throughout the restart process, and I also held it down through an entire restart process.
It tells me to research "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" online to learn more about this error. I've found youtube vids about it, but none of them have the same problem I'm dealing with, and most tell you to click F8, which I cannot do.
I have a Sony Vaio with either Windows 8 or 8.1.

Preferred Solution: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error and tapping/holding F8 does not work. Computer just keeps restarting over and over. Help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I hold FN and tap the F3 to +1 on the volume, but it mutes it. I tap the side buttons as well and they do the same. In order for the volume to go up or down, I have to hold them. I'd much rather be able to tap them and set a desired number instead of having to guess on how long I hold in the key or button. If I have FN held in but just tap the up or down function, it mutes it. It acts as if I'm tapping F1 but I'm not. I have Thinkpad P40 Yoga.

Yesterday, my Dell XPS 13 decided that every time I pressed the power button to put it into sleep mode, it would turn off instead. I've gone into the control panel (Windows 10 by the way) and the settings do not reflect this - they're set as the following:
"When I press the power button: On battery=sleep, Plugged in=sleep"
"When I press the sleep button: On battery=sleep, Plugged in=sleep"
"When I close the lid: On battery=Do Nothing, Plugged in=Do Nothing"
Yet pressing the power button (not holding) still completely shuts down the laptop. I don't know what would've caused this, as it didn't receive any updates before this started happening (neither Dell nor Win10).

I have a HP Entertainment PC laptop. It's Windows 7 (upgraded from Windows Vista). When I tap on the touchpad, it won't work as a click. It's so annoying that I have to use the button below the touchpad to click. Help me, please.

Thank you~

A:How can I make “tapping the mousepad (touchpad) to work as a click”?

Did you install the touchpad drivers from HP? If so, you may have to play around with some settings for it in control panel. If yo did the upgrade isntall its supposed to keep all your drivers, but sometimes it doesn't retain all of them.

A:it seems like down arrow key is pressed and hold automatically and tapping on touchpad do not work

I have the same problem. I press the UP ARROW key once the laptop completes booting. This solved the down key lock problem. I started hearing the beep sounds when I upgraded to windows 10. When I went back to windows 7 the beeping stopped during boot up but the down key problem exists. I am thinking of downgrading to XP to see if the noise problem and the keyboard works. I hope its not due to my ram upgrade.

Hello, Recently I powered off my Dell E510/5150 running on Windows 7 because for some reason while browsing the web the web pages didn't load. Then after restarting the computer after logging on a message popped up that my computer was infected with worm.win32.netsky I did not have an antivirus installed on my computer, but I had MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware. I had updated both programs the day before and scanned for infections but did not find any. Whenever I log into Windows "normally" or in SafeMode WITH Networking I am unable to use the computer and whenever I log on a spyware alert popped up stating that my computer was infected with worm.win32.netsky. I pressed okay and then there was only a black screen nothing else. I put my computer into safeMode. There was no icons or anything only a window that popped up "My Documents". Then I ran MalwareBytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware to search for infections. MalwareBytes found 30 infections and removed them all (I restarted the computer). Then I was able to log on normally but after 5mins the an error message would popup saying "Windows must now restart because the Power Service Terminated Unexpectedly".I was able to stop my computer from restarting by going to Start>Run>system -aI have used Smitfraudfix as well (in safe mode) and still I am incurring the problem. Hello All,

I'm getting a BSOD on startup with a message saying BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO, error 0x00000074. Last night as I shut down my computer, Windows Update automatically ran and installed a bunch of updates. Then when I tried to start my computer up this morning, it ran some configurations for the updates it installed last night. I left and when I came back there was the BSOD.

When I restarted the computer, I got a "Windows Error Recovery" screen that gave me the option to Launch Startup Repair, which I did. I got a message box saying, "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically." When I show the problem details, I see the following:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 9
Problem Signature 07: CorruptRegistry

I then clicked on the option to go into "System Recovery Options." Startup Repair I obviously already did. I then went to "System Restore" and tried all 4 system restore points available to me. I get a message saying, "System Restore failed while mounting the registry from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x800703f9)" I didn't have a system image.  I’m helping a friend with her PC.  It is a HP Pavilion p7-1254 Desktop running Windows 10.  I recently received help with a case about this PC.
It is a rather lengthy case.  The problem she was having was only the task bar was showing on the screen when she booted -  the rest of the screen was black.  We made it better by doing a clean install of Windows 10.  After that there were some issues with videos not working properly.  We eventually got them working at an acceptable level and I returned her PC to her.
She had it for about a week.  On last Wednesday she booted and got to her desktop.  She clicked on Start and she got a BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error.
I have attached what I have done in an attempt to fix this error.  But none of it has been successful.  It has attempted to repair itself.  I tried to restore to a couple previous checkpoints.  I tried starting it in Safe Mode with and without networking.  Using Command Line I was not able to find msconfig.exe.  I was going to try to use that to boot to Safe Mode.  Using the HP Startup Menu I ran diagnostics – everything passed.  I saw someone fix this error in a You Tube.  It didn’t help me but the results of my bcdedit and a lot of screen shots from the above work i... Now this may take a while to explain because ive tried so many things but please do read to get a full understanding.

First of all i was just cleaning my pc, ran a disk cleanup. I came across this program called driver booster from Clean, Optimize, Speed Up and Secure PC - Freeware Download - IObit, along with some of there other programs from it, i ran a norton scan, the driver booster, there defragging program and a full clean up program they offered. It was getting pretty late and the defrag program was on 40% and the driver booster kept prompting me to reboot after it had installed some drivers. I turned my pc off by accident and decided to go a bed. I woke up with the error bad_system_config_info, i had this problem before so didnt panic, i restarted, did startup repair which did not work, then booted up into safe mode which did not work, i tried some bootrec commands that some people over on reddit told a guy with the same error to do. No fix, bootrec scannow and scanos did not find any windows installations which was odd and then i decided it was time to just give up and reset however it got to 30-40% and stopped, it said it could not reset and ran into a problem. I burned a windows10.iso to a disc and booted the pc with it and tried to reset with that, still stops at 30-40%. So im now here with little to no hope on getting my pc to boot and im posting this to hopefully get answers as my problem is very different from any others on reddit.

Can you use the keyboard to enter the BIOS settings?
When did this issue first occur?
Did the computer act strange, run unusually slow or give any other signs something might be wrong?

First off, I'm not a computer savy guy. Here's my issue. When my son plays minecraft (Chrome browser), he tells me that when he is holding down a key on the keyboard to move his guy, the left-click on the touchpad won't respond. Only when he lets go of the key, it responds, which ruins his gaming experience. Btw, this also happens when he plugs in any external mouse too. This also happense whenever I try it on any website, etc, but is never really an issue for a non-gamer. Is There a simple fix for this in settings or something? I can't seem to find anything that will correct the problem. Thanks in advance for the help!!

So after a few days of constant freezing and crashing and having no idea how to fix it, I finally got the blue screen. The error is called bad_system_config_info. After looking online to figure out how to fix it, I foolishly tried the solution found on this page:http://www.tenforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/25165-bad-system-config-info.htmland the description the op gives after following some instruction follows exactly my issues all the way up to post #12. Now my computer is stuck at the part that op describes at post 12, and I have no idea what to do anymore. I ran virus scans several times before the blue screen and none were found. I tried system restore while it was only freezing and crashing and it failed. I'm pretty sure it was completely updated as well as automatic updates were turned on. I really don't want to lose any of the information I have on my PC. Hopefully an official forum will have the correct advice. Does any know what I can do? Thanks.

You can access the Repair Environment using a Retail Windows Disc.

Boot using the disk and carefully read the options offered - one will be to Repair the Windows install. Pick that and then follow the instructions to open a Command Prompt window.

If you don't have a disk, you can download the ISO and create one - use the links from here to download the ISO and use the Windows Disk Image Burner to burn it to DVD

Okay, currently we have a satellite system we pay for that pumps music through our overhead speaker system. This system uses the satellite box and an amplifier. I'm thinking, why can't I use the amplifier and pump music from a pc running a music station program such as Spinner or imusic to the amplifier which then in turn will pump the music through the speakers. This would save me about $75.00 a month and I would still have the variety of stations to choose from.

Hi guys, I haven't been here in a year or so and the last time I was here you guys helped me immensely so I am very thankful. The last time I had a computer that wouldn't start, and you guys showed me how to do the recovery thing and it worked. I am on that very computer right now and all is well! However, my parents have the same model of computer and now they are having restart problem. I tried to do the recovery thing, and bootcfg /default, I turned off automatic restarting, and it still didn't boot the login. After I turned off auto restart it gave me this error code

"windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135"

I was even gonna try to use the linux guide you guys gave me a year ago to save files from the harddrive just in case I had reformat, but it froze after all the booting and whatnot. If I can get the computer to start so I can get in there and run my virus programs, spybot s&d, spy sweeper or whatever and clean it out like I did with the computer I am on now, that would be great instead of losing all my data and reinstalling windows.

someone told me to try this:

You may also try before the repair install the following also.
"Reboot, this time taking the immediate R option, and if the CD letter is say K: give these commands

COPY K:\i386\ntldr C:\
COPY K:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\

but I haven't yet, I would rather get assistance from you guys first.

At first I thought this was just because the computer was too hot as the fans would be blowing away loudly for several minutes before it restarts and dismissed the problem. However, today the moment i log into my user within a few seconds the computer restarts. After restarting my computer a few times the problem didnt go away. I thought it might due to some missing files so i tried to solve it by using my windows cd and do an autosystem recovery. But instead of auto restarting the blue screen error came up. I restarted the computer several times and noticed that i was receiving different error codes each time:
Stop: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xc42270e6, 0xbacfba60, 0x00000000)
Stop: 0x000000be (0xbac79000, 0x17e9b121, 0xbacfbbbc, 0x0000000b)
Stop: 0x00000050 (0xbab98000, 0x00000001, 0x8053715c, 0x00000000)
I only recorded these 3 codes before i gave up. i am not sure if there are other error codes.
I am still able to access the computer in safe mode. Tried to use system recovery
I share this computer with my family and i do not know what they may have done to the computer.

The BSOD codes you describe are Page_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area and usually relate to new hardware that has been installed. uninstall any hardware that has been installed recently and see if that solves the problem.

Ok.. here is my problem.

For some unexplainable reason, my computer will restart itself after windows loads. The amount of time varies from a few seconds I turn it on, to (if I'm lucky) an hour or so.

It has been like this for nearly two weeks, and during that time I have tried a few things such as take it to a computer guy, who basically looked for a while & couldn't find anything, so did a system restore (I'm quite a newbie, so apologies if I get my terms wrong, but he basically reset the computer so it was like it was originally). However he also put a new version of windows, upgrading it from Windows XP Home to XP Professional.

The 2 main things I find weird, are firstly that whenever I run the computer on SafeMode it is fine, and has never restarted itself (& if that were purely the issue then maybe it would be the video card, at a guess?). The most odd issue is that when I brought my computer to his workplace, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT that all I brought over was the CPU it always seemed to work fine. I have changed the CPU power cable, ran the power from another power point, changed the 4xpower point connector.. pretty much all I can think of for the main cables supplying power. And for the record, in the short space it will run before restarting, the internet works fine..

What else haven't I thought of??

Any help is sincerely appreciated, and a huge thanks in advance!!

It seems pretty random, but it's usually does it after I've been playing for a few hours. When my computer comes back on it says "windows has recovered from a serious error", then I send an error report and their webpage says - "Error Caused by Graphics Device Driver"

Then I checked my system logs and I found this error report:

A:Help! My computer keeps restarting during games and gives me a device driver error

Update your drivers from nVIDIA.com

If that doesn't fix the problem then try using Omega Drivers.

EDIT: You didn't mention your power supply. A failing PSU could cause that problem. If you used cheap RAM that could be the problem.

Hi there. A few days ago I made this post: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/95217/computer-acting-very-strangely/ . I'm still having the same problems, but now my computer keeps on restarting again and when it does, a blue screen comes up that says windows isn't starting to protect me from some kind of a problem, and to restart my computer, and when I do, the safe mode screen thing comes up, and I have to choose 'last known good configuration' for windows to boot. Also, now when I run an ad-aware scan, it comes up with many registry entires and 3 processes, but when I try to quarantine/delete them, my computer restarts. I think that the problem has something to do with a file called alpxutzjeqpmq.dll, or possibly jvr.dll, which were created on the night that the problems started, and I think that's one of the things that comes up in Ad-Aware. Also, the mcafee error message that I mentioned in my other topic still comes up whenever I log on. Please help me! I really appreciate any help. When did this problems started exactly? Could it be they started after a windowsupdate?Download Combofix to your desktop.Doubleclick combofix.exeFollow the prompts.Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang. When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt. Kernel data inpage error 0x0000007A (0xE2082D10x 0xc000009A,

This started happening after my daughter's boyfriend went into the Bios to check my computer's temperature ( not sure if this is related to the issue), all bio changes have already been changed back to before the issure arose. It runs through check disk, then says Windows xp is now loading then after a few minutes it restarts and starts the whole process over again.

I can't get into safe mode the same as above happens. I have also tried using my recovery disks but it would not restore ( not a full restore as I am trying not to lose any files, if possible)

It is a Gateway 5200S
Intel (Augsburg) 915G Motherboard No CPU R0
300-Watt Power Supply
Intel Pentium 4 520 Processor
512 mb memory
Let me know if you need more info.. I am not even sure what kind of issue this is security, harware or.........

A:Virus holding my computer hostage

Hi pealow and to BleepingComputerLets start to take on the challenge here!Since you mention you don't have internet commection, you will have to download various tools to a flash drive. I recommend you therefore to use Flash Disinfector, to prevent infecting other computers. Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.Hold down the Shift key when inserting the drive until Windows detects it to keep autorun.inf from executing if it is present.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.Reboot your computer when done.Note: As part of its routine, Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive that was plugged in when you ran it. Do not delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection by keeping the autorun file from being installed on the root drive and running other malicious files.MALWAREBYTES ANTIMALWARE-------------------------------------------Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. My laptop generally has some freezing problems, but it has reached a new low. It froze up tonight after I brought it back from idle mode. The mouse and such froze, so like I usually do, I was going to manually shut it down and reboot. However, holding the power button for no matter how long will do nothing. Nothing I push on the keyboard responds at all.

The weird thing is, the computer itself continued to go through the process of going to the screensaver and then back into idle mode. Any idea what I can do?

A:Holding power button won't shut down computer

Unplug the AC, and remove the battery. Wait 10 minutes. Insert the battery, plug in the AC and try to start the laptop.

Press the "F8" key repeatedly immediately after turning the laptop on. At the menu screen, select "Safe Mode".

If you can get to Safe Mode, navigate to

Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager and click "show hidden devices".

Yes....this is called ransomware. Most of the time you get this by visiting sites you shouldn't be. Most of the time you can clean this type of Virus by a specific removal tool for it but that doesn't all ways work. We need to know what type of ransomware it is. Most of the time a format/reinstall or a factory recovery is required.
