Q: [Resolved] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared

Hi, I use my Norton windows scan and I keep getting the message C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared." I talked to Gateway Tech and they told me to back up all files and I did on a previous problem but one disc, the second one was corrupt (so it said). I lost everything. I am afraid to do this again they suggest I redo my windows from the very begining that always seems to be there answer. I cannot afford to lose data now. I am having that error message come up and I cannot use my send to drive E to copy discs properly so I got the updated version of Rioxio since the one I had was out dated so I moved up to Roxio 6 and I cannot do anything as far as coping files to disc. I am upset because a very important file is stuck in Roxio 6 that has my excel spreedsheet and it will not let me open it or copy it to CD. I hope this made sense. Please help if you can. I am running a gateway 700XL with XP Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi tonedef -

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

What version of Office are you trying to install (e.g, 2003 or 2007)?

Have you changed any file permission settings or "Taken Ownership" of any folders/files?

The "scan disk" that you mentioned running... was it "sfc /scannow"? If not, click on START | type cmd.exe in the Start Search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Admin

In the screen that comes up type the following:

sfc /scannow (space after sfc) - press ENTER

Let this run. Try Office re-install.

Good Luck. . .

Hi there,

I have installed microsoft office 07 when first getting my laptop late last year and have had no problem until today. I find this appearing on my laptop upon trying to open up any microsoft office program: Error 2330. Setup cannot get attirbutes for the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Smart Tag\LISTS. Verify that the file exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it.

When trying to open windows live messenger i get this message: The file or directory\Program files\common files\microsoft shared is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility and the same goes for trying to open winRAR and notepad.

I have tried to do the chkdsk utility but on cmd, was told access denied since i do not have sufficient privileges and need to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.

I should also add that my sister was using my laptop today and told me that these error messages came up when she first opened the laptop and said that my log on was even corrupted! (Note: I normally put my laptop to sleep but when my sister opened it this morning it had restarted instead of just waking up as it normally does)

Sorry for the long post but i thought I should be as detailed as i can even though i know very little about computers...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Hel3nz

Thanks to anyone who can help. I've searched for this topic and haven't found anything that worked for me. I posted this topic a couple days ago but just now it didn't show up; sorry if I've double-posted.

I'm trying to download itunes for the first time, but I get the error in the title when I try to run the itunes_setup.exe file. When I cancel, I get "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."

I checked and confirmed that I am the admin on my PC, and all accounts are set up with full access privileges to these folders. I also tried rebooting in safe mode and logging on as "Administrator" and running the .exe from a flash drive.

I think I had similar problems loading an XP Office Upgrade a few months ago; I finally just gave up. I have Spybot Search and Destroy; it says I'm clean, for whatever that's worth.

Please help! Thanks again.

You are mostly likley on a limited account.
Are you using Xp
Are you the only account. There are other reasons but lets look at this option first

Go to control panel use accounts and click on your user name , it will say if you are and admin of the machine or you are using a limited account.

Take alook at that and post back

C:\Program Files\Common Files is corrupted. How do I fix this?
Whenever I startup my computer I get error messages about the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files is corrupt. I cannot access the folder because it says it is corrupted or unreadable and tells me to run CHKDSK.

I am running Windows Vista 64 Bit.

I ran CHKDSK and ended up with this.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/Untitled.jpg

I did some more research and found out about CHKDSK F and did that and selected for it to run on computer restart. I than restarted my computer and it did a normal restart and did not run CHKDSK. Now I am stuck.

I can't install iTunes or anything.

Can you help?

Hello,

I guess your Adobeupdater is causing this, because that's the only one I suspect in your log that starts up with Windows where I don't see it running in your processes. This one also runs from a subfolder of the Common Files folder and I guess Windows only reads "common" here since the full path is not between quotes in the registry.

So try next..
Check and fix next entry in Hijackthis (since this startup is not required anyway):

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AdobeUpdater] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater\AdobeUpdater.exe

Reboot your computer.
Let me know if that solved the problem.

I have Winpatrol installed on my computer and have had a program try to add itself to my start up, It's ALG.exe but it's not the real alg that is fond in the system 32 folder. This one is in Program Files\Common and is clearly some kind of adware or worse because it shows to be software made by SornSoft named CPAX20,when I place my mouse over the alg.exe file it shows this info below the alg icon. when I go to the SornSoft site it has a program named CPAX version 2.0 and from reading about it it sounds like adware/spyware.

My question is if I can't find it running through WinPatrol, none of my other security software finds it. AVG, Malwarebytes, Obit 360, Spybot or spyware blaster, it is it safe to assume it isn't running. As I said Winpatrol caught it when it tried to add itself to my start up and I clicked do not allow. Also is there any other information about this alg.exe fake out there? Thanks for any help.

I looked through the past posts on this subject, but the advice doesn't apply in my situation.

Every time I start Windows the C:\Program files\Common folder opens up.
I have a hunch that it's to do with Install Shield. But I have no idea how to fix it. I have looked at my startup folder and there are no shortcuts to open this window.

I'm going to post my HJT log for your reference.

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and would like some help.Yesterday, my Norton AV found 2 viruses. It removed infostealer easily. Downloader, not so easy. I eventually deleted it in safe mode. The path was C:\WINNT\system32\msiebbar.dll. Once back in normal mode, I went ahead and deleted temporary internet files folder.Upon restart, and everyone after that, I now have a common files window pop up with helper.sig in it. I tried to find it in regedit with no luck. So, now I'm treading in unfamiliar waters, asking for help to something I know little about. here is my problem. I read through other posts about this...but I figured every case is a bit different and I shouldn't follow other posts cause they were all a bit different.

I'm writing about our computer at the store I work at. We use it for our register and the past couple of days it has been very slow and on start up an Explorer window pops up and it's Program Files\Common and it has 4 icons helper.dll, _helper.dll, helper.sig and _helper.sig. I've run AdAware and deleted cookies and temp internet files and that doesn't seem to help. I've also just finished running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and after restart after that finished the helper.dll and helper.sig icons were gone but the _helper.dll and _helper.sig were still there and it is still running slow. I've attached my Malwarebytes Log. This computer is a Gateway desktop running Windows XP. We have McAfee installed but I believe the subscription is ended so as soon as I get this figured out I'm going to have my boss set up a comcast email address to get the free subscription.

Any help would be great!!!! Thank you so much!

attached here is my HJT Log and my Malwarebytes log

I got rid of much of the problem, but now I have noticed that my computer has slowed down tremendously.First, I continuously experience popups from ad.firstadsolution, they pop up 2-4 at a time, and happen approx. every five minutes.Second of course, my computer has drastically slowed down. I then have the option to select the program to use to run the file, but I don't know which is the appropriate program is use to run exe files. The microsoft instructions say that I should also be able to check the web for programs, but when I chose this option, all it does is tell me what the file extention means. Hello everyone,

I'm using a laptop (with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed) as a DVR and media streamer to all other devices in the house.
My TV recordings are recorded into a temporary folder and when the recording is finished the program moves the files into the My Videos folder.

The My Videos folder is shared so we can watch the recordings from the Xbox downstairs or other Windows 7 devices in the house.
This worked pretty well in the past but for some reason new recordings (or downloads) aren't shared by default anymore. All files have a small lock icon (shared with nobody) and I have to manually share new files within an already shared folder.

This is pretty annoying and takes away the convenience.

I would appreciate any tip to fix this problem to have all files in the shared folder(s) shared by default.

Thanks in advance!

A:New files aren't shared in shared folder

It's easy once you know how, just right click the C:/Video's folder and choose properties, Security tab then Advanced button, then just put a check mark where it says "Replace all Child Object Permission Entries with Inheritable Permissions Entries from this Object, then hit Apply, OK....this will fix the problem you described.

My computers are both running Win 7 64-bit. I am thoroughly confused when it comes to placing programs that I download into their proper folders: That is, program files (x86) vs program files. I have read stuff on this, but still confused. for the most part, even when a dl'd program suggests being installed into PF, I, for whatever reason, place it into PF (x86). Although I have read that placing the program into the wrong folder may cause the program not to work properly, so far I have not had this problem...nor any other problems that I am aware of. Could someone please set me straight on this issue?

A:Program Files or Program Files (x86)-Where to place downloaded program

I let the installer put it where it is supposed to.

If I trust the software I trust they know best where it should be installed/placed.

If I can't trust the software maker why am I downloading/installing their program?

I am trying to uplift our 32 bit Eclipse RCP application to 64 bit end state. In order to do that I have updated all the required dependencies and dlls. Also I am able to launch the application under 64 bit environment only when the application is kept anywhere
outside Program Files or Program Files(x86). When it is installed in the said location it could not be launched , a result view could not be created because it tries to write a search file in the place where it is been installed.

But the main problem is the same set of code works for 32 bit version no matter where it is installed. Also the 32 bit version of application can read or write result to any desired location without being launched as admin. And the 64 bit version of the application
does the same when launched as admin.

In order to find out more I tried with eclipse_mars_x86 and eclipse_mars_x86_64 with different location. When the workspace is
inside Program Files or Program Files(x86) 32 bit of eclipse can access it without being launched as admin but the same can not be done through 64 bit of eclipse, without launching it as admin.

The same behavior is
seen with sample RCP Application which I created  to investigate the issue . The 64 - bit version of the sample application , if kept inside Program
Files or Program Files(x86)  , is not launching(\.metadata\.locl(Access is Denied)). Where in for the same sample application built in 32 bit environment is working fine i... Read more

Would be good to have the following plan given the go ahead or have the holes pointed out in it...

I want to refresh my Laptop, there's a few things that are a bit iffy on it, I feel like a refresh might help it. I've never actually refreshed my laptop before so it's a bit of uncertainty and a bit of learning.

My plan is to create a disk image using Drive Image XML (Or should I use the built in Windows Option?) to my external HD. Then after my computer has been refreshed to factory settings I'll mount the Disc Image to a different HD (that's got more space than the Image will be) and I'll then be able to pull the files off the Image. These would be documents / program files etc...

I don't know how this affects things such as the Path in

System and security > System > Advanced system settings > System Properties > Environment variables.

I've added to that recently for Eclipse and Java, so I'd like that to remain...?

I'm guessing the process will be :

1 Create disc image

2 Mount & test Disc image

3 Reset laptop to factory settings.

4 update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (was 8 originally...)

5 copy x86 and x64 program folders over from the disc image.....

Is this cool? Am I missing stuff / anything extra I should be aware of?

Cheers

When you open it, go to the column that says Installation Date and see what the last stuff installed was. Google it and see if you really want that stuff and if not, how to best get rid of it.

I have been using Norton A'Virus and scan pc every night..
over the last several months, have had 1 'adware' item show up each morning, once scan completed.. system was unable to repair/quarantine/delete the file..

2 mornings ago, there were 6 items listed on the log..
now, several of my programs will not run.. [pop up; norton anti-virus; weather bug; etc..]

there is a foreground window which has the following message:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC SHARED\ccAPP.exe (or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

can anyone advise what my problem is now, and what I can do?

thx much!

We are a small company.  We are running six windows 8 computers.  Our secretary works from home, the rest of us are in the same office.

The Admin Computer stores all of our work files within a folder called 'casework' (about 400GB).   The 'casework' folder is shared on the office network.  This 'casework' folder is also synced by Google Drive.

When our secretary works on her home computer and makes a new file, e.g. letterV2, the new file downloads to our 'casework' folder to the Admin Computer here at the office.  However, the new file cannot been seen on our other computers over the office
network.

The newly created files are not shared to 'everyone' unless I un-share 'casework' from the network and then share 'casework' again.

The problem seems to be that the new files added by Google Drive are not inheriting the permissions of the 'casework' folder.

There are no options to change in Google Drive.  Is this a Windows8 problem? Will Windows10 have a fix for this? Are there any work arounds? Does our secretary need to work at the office?

Yours Hopefully

Matt

A:New files downloaded from cloud storage into shared folders don't inherit shared permissions for "Everyone"

may I know how that work case folder sync with google drive?

I suggest you contact Google drive first, we have limitation information regarding this product.

You can proof that there is no issue for sharing folder within your office network
I think that's not how online share drive work, unless your secretary can join your office network trough internet
http://www.howtogeek.com/196435/how-to-share-files-and-folders-from-your-cloud-storage-folder/
this is the example, you can ask your secretary to send file trough share drive and assign 1 admin to sync and send it to your case work folder

Hi have have a new PC running Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I have 2 drives:

1 x 120GB SSD (running the OS) (C Drive)
1 x 1TB HDD (D Drive)

The SSD is running the OS and a couple of main programs which i use quite often (ie. Office 2010, Antivirus, etc).

The HDD i want to use to install and run Games, iTunes, etc...

My question is, if by default installing programmes want to install to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86). How to i make them install to D:\ and what file structure should i use to make sure the 64bit and 32bit are in the right file and run as they should at the correct bit version??

Is it just a case of creating Program Files & Program Files (x86) folders on D and navigating to these folders on install?

Thanks

A:Program Files (x86) & Program Files Installed On Another Drive

you could try mounting the the hdd partition to your program files folder in your SSD.

I have never done this before and cannot say it will work properly. but its an idea.

Mount Drives or Partitions as a Folder

P.S. I would definitely backup your program files before trying that.
