"No battery is installed" in Lenovo Settings T460p Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Q: "No battery is installed" in Lenovo Settings T460p Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Upgraded from T420s to T460p by moving SSD with Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Updated all drivers and software with System Update and online scanner. Everything now works fine, except Lenovo Settings reports "No battery is installed". I do have a battery installed, and Windows shows charge status correctly. I have the same problem with a 2nd battery, so it's not the battery. InstallingLenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Laptop(more than once) has not helped. Everything is normal in Device Manager.Any thoughts?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently bought a ThinkPad X240s with Windows 10 installed by the previous owner. I installed the Lenovo Settings app, which works well except for one thing: Every hour or so, a message pops up saying that Battery 2 is not installed. The X240s has only one battery - there is no battery 2, and no way to install battery 2. Is there any way to tell Lenovo Settings that this machine has only one battery? Or is it possible to file a bug reporting this problem? Windows 10 is definitely supported by Lenovo on the X240s, so I hope this can be fixed. Thanks for any help or advice.

Until a couple of days ago all my battery settings were working fine, but now the battery icon just disappeared in the Lenovo settings, so I cannot change anything. This is especially annoying since my chargin threshold is set to 80% and I do not know how to change it with this problem. I do not remember installing any updates, but I did change some things when my pc boots to get rid of a broken Linux partition in my boot menu. All other parts of Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion are working fine. Thanks for your help!

I used Lenovo Settings on my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 for the battery conservations mode. So I was forced to install Lenovo Companion since it recently replaced Lenovo Settings.Ever since I did this, I have noticed the following:* Screen brightness keeps changing by itself slightly* Screen contrast keeps changing by itself slightly* Colours look muted and unsaturated, and filtered. Makes the sceen look worse than it should.* trackpad is only ignorred if the tablet mode is fully flat. The slightest opening causes the trackpad and keyboard to become sensitive. All of this irrespective of whether Dynamic Brighness Control is enabled or disabled in Lenvovo Companion hardware settings, and regarless of whether recommended hardware settings are used.Anyone else noticed anything similar? I'll report back after I've uninistalled the app to see whether any of these behaviours disappear.

A:Noticed issues ever since I installed Lenovo Companion (which replaced Lenovo Settings)

So I deactivated "Change brightness autoatically when lighting changes" in Windows Display Settings. This seems to have been the cause of the brightness and contrast changes, but the colours still look blander than I recall. Sorry to suspect Lenovov Companion so quickly, but the changes coincided with it's installation. Admittedly Windows 10 Fall edition just landed too.

I've been troubleshooting slightly higher than expected power usage on my P70. Yesterday, the Lenovo Settings app Battery Charge Threshold displayed a slider that I could adjust.To-day, it does not. There was both a "Runtime Application Reconfiguration" for the Lenovo Power Manager to-day and Lenovo System Interface Driver install/reconfiguration mentioned in the Reliability Monitor. I'm looking at a battery that's sitting at 75% (not charging)- when it should be charging to 80%.Any ideas? I'd like to have a charging threshold.

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!

What OS are you using win 8/win 10 and what version of Lenovo settings? Also check programs/features and state what version of System Interface Foundation you have installed.Note version 3.122 release notes.https://settingsfeedback.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1077760-release-version-history You may have to wait 10 -30 minutes for the Battery plug in to self update.

Since there is no battery connected the laptop runs on whatever jiuce is provided by the adapter.  So the question is, would it run slower on the 90W compared to the 135W? Thanks in advance.

Hi.  I bought this laptop just over a year ago and have generally had good experience with it.  My only issue has been with the battery.  When I first started using it, the battery would last about 10 hours which became 4 hours a few months later.  I decided to buy a new battery (thinking it was a faulty battery), and it did the same thing.  I got in touch with Lenovo tech while it was still under warranty, and they tried a few things on my laptop (remotely) but couldn't resolve the issue.  Now I have two batteries that last just about 3-4 hours on full charge.  It is really frustrating since one of the major selling points for me was the advertised battery life. If anyone has any experience or expertise with this, and can help in any way... please DO   I would like to know if there's anything I can do to diagnose the issue and/or fix it? Thanks/Sam

Hello, I have had my Lenovo ThinkPad T460p a bit over a year now, and it was always fine. Today I try to open it (from night-long sleep) and it almost instantly turns off. I try to power it on, but nothing: no LED, no beep, nothing. After some online search through my mobile phone, I try this: I unplug the laptop from the main current plug in the wall, I remove the battery at the bottom of the laptop, and I then push the power button (ti flush the capacitor?). After that, when I put back the battery and the plug, and try to power it on, the whole keyboard LEDs get active (including the power LED) but then the whole laptop dies again without proceeding further in the boot. any idea how to fix this? There seems to be no emergency hole reboot unfortunately, and I have very important data on this laptop for my job.

Hello! I am new to Lenovo and picked up my 1st laptop yesterday when my HP died. I have always had HP and grew tired of how easy they break & poor battery life, so I wanted to try a different band. I love the computer, the keyboard, track pad & screen are amazing. I bought the ideapad 320-15IAP for about $330 (Including tax) The specs at the store advertised 4.5-5 Hours of battery life, but I have not been able to get a charge better than 2 hours. For someone that uses my laptop at work and on the go, this will not do. Can any one offer up any advice? Does lenovo sell stronger batteries for ideapad that I can replace with this current battery?  My next issue is the Windows 10 update that you are forced to do, I have been trying to install it since 9PM last night, it is now 9PM tonight, a full 24 hours, and it has not fully installed. I have done my fair share of google searches and many people have had these same issues too, but no good solutions outside of deep computer hacking, I don't want to have to do that on a brand new computer. Thanks for any and all help!

A:Bios upgrade to 2.12 on T460p locks cpu frequency to lowest when running without battery

It sounds like a bug might have been fixed.  I would expect it to slow down if you had just a battery (no A/C) or just A/C (no battery).  The charhing circuity won't "cook" the battery.  It will stop charging when it is fully charged.

Hey guys, I have purchased the Lenovo T460p and I am thinking of returning it due to a number of issues. I have not yet received it. It is in the final stages of manufacturing.  1. One of the first reviews of the T460p has reported:'A bigger problem is the temperatures of the processor: Even with CPU load-only by Cinebench, it reaches almost 90 C (~194 F) and even up to 93 C (~199 F) in Prime95, which results in a slight clock reduction from 3.1 to 2.9 GHz. In this case, the temperature will level off at around 90 C (~194 F). When we also stress the graphics card as well as the CPU with the tools FurMark and Prime95, we can also see the effect of the TDP limitation at 35 watts. The latter has to suffice for the processor and the graphics card. The full performance is only available during the first 30 seconds, when the chip can consume 45 watts, before the limitation at 35 watts sets in. The temperature climbs to 95 C (~203 F) in this short period. The processor levels off at 2.7 GHz, while the graphics card runs at 900 MHz.'Source: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T460p-Notebook-Review.160923.0.htmlMy question is has anyone benchmarked this laptop and found a similar result. 2. One of Lenovo Support partners on this forum has reported he is able to use a Transcend 128 GB M.2 2242 SATA SSD in the optional WWAN slot. Has anyone confirmed that this type of storage chip is supported in the T460p (market ready model). &nbs... Read more

A:Concerns and Questions About Lenovo's T460p (2016)

I purchased a T460p earlier this month and I can say that I'm very happy with it (apart from a small issue with the trackpad, which should be solvable through a driver update though). I run Windows 10 Home on it and have a virtual machine running Ubuntu for my development work. I haven't put it through heavy computing loads yet but using it normally doesn't heat up the CPU a lot, and the fan is surprisingly silent as well. Compared to my T430 the palm rest doesn't heat up very much at all. Concerning the GPU it doesn't seem to impact CPU much, I tested the 3D performance by playing Crysis 2, which runs smoothly at 1280 resolution without overheating the system. I use a Transcend 512 GB SSD in the WWAN slot, which works like a charm. The battery performance is as advertised, when in energy-saving mode the power consumption can go down to 7-8 W, which gives you about 6.5 hours with the 45 Wh battery and 10 hours with the 71 Wh model. Personally I'd recommend choosing the 71 Wh battery, as you get an additional 35 % capacity for just 16 ? and the weight is almost identical to the 45 Wh model (and the form factor is also identical). The model 0C52862 batteries (e.g. for T440 20B6, 20B7; T440s 20AQ, 20AR; X240) are compatible with the T460p btw and available cheaply online, so no need to buy an "original" T460p battery, which are offered for much higher prices it seems. I'd also recommend to stick with the basic RAM/HDD configuration (4 GB... Read more

Dear everbody, I have an T460p-20FX and still have warrenty. Since two or three weeks I have several BSODs with different kind of stop codes. What I've seen so far was:CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIEDUNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTIONMEMORY_MANAGEMENT I already clean installed windows 10, which helped for a while. However, the problems came back.I also run a lot of tests, like chkdsk, sfc, MemTest86 and the build in tool by Lenovo (I forgot the name. Something with Diagnostics). Nothing! All tests always said, everything is fine with your hardware. The worst thing is, I cannot get Windows anymore to write dump files. I checked all settings, space in memory, and also switched settings to smaller dumps, such as only kernel-dump.But after each bluescreen, no matter what, the percentage stucks at 0% forever. No dump, no event-ids.Two weeks ago, sometimes Windows created dump files. So I attached one of these minidumps. But it's a bit outdated.Of course all drivers are up date. I also used external tools to check this. I also updated the firmware of my SSD (with Lenovo). But now I'm running out of ideas. So I'm totally lost. I'm thinking it is a hardware problem. I bought my Lenovo this January in Germany. The problem is, I'm in Japan now and I will stay here for some more months. But it looks like there is no support shop in Japan (Tokyo). I have international warrenty but I don't know how to use it. I really appreciate any ideas and help.Best regards,Highchiller

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... A:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

I have a ThinkPad T460P. Some time ago it fell off to the side of couch while plugged in and bent the adapter / end of charger insert upon impact. After i would receive a "plugged in but not charging" message. I could still get this machine to charge if i closed it and inserted the charger, let it sit, and then open. Somewhat inconsistent but it worked. Finally the other day i was running a video and the battery drained completely without realizing it was not charging. I received a critically low battery message. Charger no longer worked and machine would not turn on. I bought a new 90W charger to see if it would do the trick. When i plug this in, the light above the thinkpad sign and also the light in power button flashes 3 times but then nothing else. Normally this light would strobe. The charger appears to work as the light near the port has gone from yellow to green. But the machine no longer turns on. Sometimes i can get it to flash when pressing the power but nothing. Also tried a number of tricks like taking the battery out, holding the power button for a while, putting all back in and trying again. Machine will also not turn on when plugged in without the battery in. Thoughts? Am i cooked here?

hello all :-) does anybody know how to solve issues with lenovo settings an windows10?i have successfully reinstalled a t430s with windows 10 64bit.after installation i run windows update and update for all windows appsafter that i run lenovo system update i found out that lenovo settings with fn+f6 does not work - it asks for lenovo setting to install via app store.installing apps via appstore is not possible because we want to give our old devices to our employees.for windows shop you need to login with microsoft id - we dont want to to that. so i decided to install lenovo settings via powershell appx (there is a lenovo document for that).the installation for settings app via powershell it worked fine - BUT the fn+f6 key does not work - it still asks for lenovo settings.if i open this app from startmenu it works! how can i solve this issue? lenove settings depency and hotkey feature is up to date. thanks for help!

I will be clear and to the point:"The Battery gauge is messed up. It never shows how much it ACTUALLY is. Like right now its stuck on 99% when I know it should be less (Since i've been using it alot on battery)" These are the things I did:1. Reinstalled Windows 10.2. Disabled Lenovo ACPI Controller and Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI Battery Drivers.3. NEVER used Lenovo Battery Manager. Please tell me a possible fix other than Downgrading back to Windows 8.1.Thanks

Hi all,I have lenovo G50-80 laptop, bought 1 year back. Previously i used windows 8.1 and the laptop worked pretty good. It gave around 3:30 to 4 hrs battery backup. Recently I install windows 10 pro. From that time the battery is standing for less than 2 hrs. Just to make sure again I installed windows 8.1 and the battery is giving 3:30 to 4 hrs. I want to use windows 10 but with decent battery backup. I read some blogs about this issue but i couldn't get rid of this problem. Please reply your suggestion. Thanks
