Lenovo Flex 3 - Stuck in sleep mode

Q: Lenovo Flex 3 - Stuck in sleep mode

Has anyone had any issues with their Flex 3 laptop getting stuck in sleep mode? I've called Lenovo support twice about this issue. The problem was not fixed at all on the first attempt. After the second attempt....I thought they fixed the issue; however, it still happens but less frequently. Just purchased this laptop in February 2016 and I'm about to throw it in the trash!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I received a brand new Flex 3-1480 for Christmas and have had several technical issues with it. First, the touch screen only works about half of the time when I turn it on. When I restart the machine, it sometimes fixes the issue, but that's not my main concern. The biggest issue is that it will not wake up from sleep mode. This problem began back in February (6 months ago) and has not been resolved. I called Lenovo support on 6 or 7 different occasions, each answered by a different technician who assigned me new case numbers. They all tried various things (BIOS, hardware, screen brightness, drivers, etc.). These solutions all worked for a few days, maybe a week on occasion before the computer when back to not working properly.  The computer was sent to the repair depot back in April to be fixed. When I got it back, it worked properly for 2 days before reverting to the previous sleep issue. At that point, I called support again, tried more fixes (none of which worked). I got fed up and tired of those solutions at the end of May, when I called and told them I wanted this escalated. I was assigned Crystal as a case manager. She has been absolutely abysmal and non-responsive, but looking at this forum and online I see that she is always like this - I am surprised she still is employed and just goes to show how terrible of a company this really is. This is my first and last Lenovo machine and will recommend people NOT purchase Lenovo when they are looking for produ... Read more

I think my daughters laptop is stuck in sleep mode.  Power light is on but there is nothing on the screen and no sound.  I have plugged an external monitor into the HDMI port and it still doesn't display anything.  Tried to go through Lenovo support and the serial number isn't displayed anywhere on the computer so I can't call them! Laptop was bought by her dad who lives in the USA a few weeks ago, and she brought it home from there with no packaging so I can't even check the box for a serial number! A lot has been posted about the Flex 2 and other models stuck in sleep mode.  When pressing the power button the light comes on (white), the keys back light is on and the fan is running, but the screen never comes on.  I have tried all kinds of reset procedures, from the simple reset to pulling the battery.  Even removing the bios battery.  I tried connecting an external display, but still it does the same thing.  So I decided the motherboard has to be the problem.  I replaced the motherboard and I still have the same problem.  I can't get the machine to wake up. The only other thing is the "power board".  Does anyone know if the power board could cause this problem?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, first time here and I just want to inform you that I'm not a genius so please talk like you're talking to a 9years old kid..

So my problem is as the title says.. Well it started when I opened my laptop from sleep mode then it was hanging up and then it suddenly turned blue with sad face.. I didn't read the problem clearly but i remember it saying a problem about "kernel_????_????"..

I tried to hard reset my laptop cause it was taking so much time then it ended up stuck on the logo... Now I'm the one with the blue sad face...

Hope you guys can help me as soon as possible., thanks in advance..

A:lenovo flex 15 is stuck on lenovo logo

Right, you mentioned it turned blue with a sad face, that is a Blue Screen of Death (or proper term is Kernel bugcheck) which indicates something has gone wrong.

Please help! I've been using sleep mode for pretty much the entire time that I have had this laptop (one month plus).  This is the first time I sent it into sleep mode for the evening and awoke the next day to find that the laptop refuses to wake up.  The keyboard will light up merrily along with the power button, but the screen will not turn on.  The fans are also running full tilt.  I can hear them running loud and clear, which is abnormal as during normal operations I cannot hear this machine running at all.  After having a jet engine for a previous laptop, this was one of my favorite features of the Flex 3. I have tried doing a ton of different things to get the laptop to wake up again including power resets and using the Novo button.  Nothing has worked.  If I could get at the battery and motherboard battery without voiding my warranty, I would.  My only solution is to try to run the battery down by leaving it on with the keyboard lights as bright as they will go and let the fan run like a jet engine.  Hopefully this will drain the battery in faster than the 4 days that everyone else was reporting.  Anyways, I don't know how everyone's Flex 3's lasted that long on battery anyways.  Mine kept turning itself on. The point of this post is to ask what I can do so that this issue never crops up again.   I love this machine, but if this becomes a recurring problem, I'm going to have to can it and g... Hi to all!I have a huge problem:My laptop started to freeze and not starting apps so I rebooted it (by pressing and keeping down the power button).Next time it started, when showing the Lenovo logo and the loading spinner it took a lot more than usual, next it showed "Diagnosing your PC" and after a while the screen showed "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete"... and it's been like 12hours now. Panicking for my files the first thing I did was to download Ubuntu and create an USB bootable image to backup my files, this went OK.Then, to try to make my laptop to start I've tried, so far: 1) Power the laptop off and press the Novo button which lead me to the Novo Menu and when I choose 'System Recovery' I get a "Onekey recovery partition has damaged so do not lauch the main application" and I get send back to the "repairing disk errors..." screen. 2) Download , from Microsoft, installation media, made a bootable USB to get to the Troubleshoot options which are- Repair start: when I choose this, nothing happends either, same repairing disk errors screen again- Try to recover to a previous state: nothing happens even thou I have available recovery points, the computer freezes and nothins happens.(In case i'm not making myself clear, I took these 2 Microsoft solutions from this post:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-stuck-on-repairing-dis... ) Any other ideas? Wait for the machine to boot into the 'Automatic repair couldn't repair your PC' error message.
Click the 'Advanced Options' button
Open cmd and type:

And also
chkdsk /r c:

Or else

Wait for the machine to boot into the 'Automatic repair couldn't repair your PC' error message.
Click the 'Advanced Options' button
Click the 'Troubleshoot' button
Click the 'Advanced options' button
 Click the 'Startup Settings' button
Wait for the system to reboot into the 'Startup Settings' menu (is the same menu for safe mode)

I have a Flex 3 that is only 4 months old and notice that even when the laptop is totally off (powered down, no lights on, not hibernate or sleep) after a day or two the batter charge upon bootup has gone down significantly. I am talking a reduction of say 40%. I am under warranty and I have to run this "Battery gauge reset" routine and do a few other checks before they replace the battery.  Although I can't imagine how looking at windows power options can impact what the battery draw is while the unit is OFF and windows is not running....but guess they have to go through their script. Anyway my question is on this Battery Gauge reset.  I have read things where this takes all night or something and people have to turn sleep mode off on their laptop? That is not in the official instructions so for those that have had this issue or run the reset do you just "press the button" or do I need to make sure the laptop stays awake. Also, what is it actually doing?? Is this type of battery drain a known issue?  To me it sure seems like just a bad battery....Thanks,BJBBJB

Hi, I recently bought a Lenovo Flex 5 from Costco in the summer of 2017 right before college. Since then, for a while now, it has a couple key issues. 1. My battery life is basically <2 hours on low power mode and 90% brightness, I basically always have to keep my laptop plugged in to use it.2. The fan on my laptop spins randomly and frequently and I don't think I have any high demanding applications running.3. Randomly while typing, the computer will spazz out and flash a lot and switch into and out of tablet mode. Sometimes it gets stuck in tablet mode and I have to figure out ways to go back to normal mode. Are these issues common in this laptop or do I have a defective model? What should I go about doing? Thanks!

Hi all, I have owned a Lenovo Flex 4 1470 2-1 for about a year now. At the beginning of this year, I noticed that my keyboard and trackpad had been disabled. I quickly realized that they would be promptly reactivated when I switched into a tablet position. Occasionally, upon restart or resetting the computer, the normal keyboard/trackpad function will return. Every time this happens though it rarely lasts longer than a day. Sometimes, it has returned even when I did nothing to fix it. Sometimes, if I held my laptop at a certain angle, or applied pressure to the base of the laptop, the function would return momentarily. Overall, the tablet/laptop hybrid function has been acting erratic and unnatural. I have already tried restarting my computer, reenabling the trackpad in lenovo's settings application, resetting my PC(both without removing personal files and removing personal files) as well as running countless virus and malware scans. I would return it to costco where I purchased it from, but my laptop is very important to me and Costco typically ships it out to the manufacturer for troubleshooting. Returning to Costco is a last resort that will be time consuming and cumbersome to my work and school.  Please help, I have been using an external keyboard and mouse for much too long.  Again, for reference, I own a Lenovo Flex 4 1470 running Windows 10. Thank You!

Hello,

I have been haunted by the consistent failure of my computer’s sleep mode. I have an HP dv2000 laptop and every time I put my computer into sleep mode it will never resume from that state. The fans roar, but the screen remains blank. I have to hold the power button down and do a hard restart.. And my reboot takes about 5 minutes now!! I have Vista on my computer; However, I do not have the Service Pack installed. I know that the Service Pack has also been known to cause a number of sleep mode problems as well.
As far as I know all of my drivers are up to date. I also downloaded a BIOS update from the HP website.. I went to the event viewer and noted some performance problems.. This is what I found out:
This program is causing Windows to standby or hibernate slowly:

Name: HP Digital Monitoring
File name: hpqtra08.exe
These Drivers are causing windows to resume slowly:

Name: NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Mini Port Driver. Version 98.15
File Name: nlddmkm.sys
Publisher: NVIDIA Corporation
Device: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

This problem is driving me nuts… Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello

My pc appears to be stuck in sleep mode. Earlier today I put my pc in sleep mode before going to the gym. When I came back and clicked the mouse the fans and lights came on but nothing appeared on the monitor. I turned the power off and turn it back on and the lights and fans come on again but nothing appears on the monitor. No boot menu, nothing. Also after turing it on, the fans and lights randomly goes off and on, usually with an interval of 30 seconds. During this nothing appears on the monitor.

I have had the same exact problem happen once before - about 4 months ago. When me and my friend tried fixing it we tried some of the following with no result:

- Using a different monitor.
- Using a different graphics card.
- Using different RAM.
- Removing dust.

He eventually took it home with him and managed to fix it. I don't know what he did and I have no means of conntacting him at this point in time.

I am sorry if this is poorly worded, seeing as english is not my first language.

I hope some of might be able to help me with this (Keep in mind that I can't get into the BIOS because nothing will show up on the minitor at all).

I just bought a new power supply and video card for my computer and everything was working perfectly. Until I stepped away from the computer long enough for it to go into sleep mode. I came back to it and wiggled the mouse as I usually do. It sounded like it started to come out of it because I heard the fans start spinning again. But nothing ever happened it just stayed there trying to come out of sleep mode.

I decided I would just shut it down and start over. But when I pressed the power button to turn it back on it glowed orange (instead of blue) to indicate that it was in sleep mode. I tried turning the hard switch of the power supply on and off but the same thing happened.

Luckily my much more knowledgeable brother was around and he removed and put back in the battery on the motherboard which reset everything and got me out of this kind of computational limbo.

My question is, what caused this? And will it happen again? Or was this some strange fluke?

The power button just keeps blinking as normal when in sleep mode. I also tried Holding down the power button, in hope to force shutdown the computer but that did not work either. The only way anything happens is if i unplug the computer and then plug it back in. Unfortunately i know thats really bad for the computer but i dont really have a choice. Any ideas?

I would REALLY appreciate if someone could help me on this computer problem I am having with my DELL pc. Operating system is Windows XP.

When I turn on the computer, it seems to be booting correctly and then all of a sudden the screen goes black and says the computer is in sleep mode. I cannot do anything except hold down the power button on the tower to turn it off and on, I can't get into safe mode, click on anything, etc.

I took it to the Best Buy Geek Squad and they totally ripped me off. They said the problem may be the video card, so I bought a new one, had it installed and again the same problem is happening.

I read someone elses same situation on this forum but I did not understand any of the computer language that were given in the answers. I do not know what a jumper is? If someone could please reply and try to use the simplest language possible!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

What model of the Dell PC do you have?

Probably you will have to check Power Managment in the BIOS.. Or you could just symply reset the BIOS to default settings.

You should be able to access the BIOS as follow:

While the system is booting press F2 key. This should bring you to BIOS settings.. Should be an option called reset BIOS to defaul or something similar.. Choose that option, then press F10 to exit and save settings...

My computer is only 2 months old (and so is all the rest of the hardware), it is specially made for recording audio, and that is all I use it for. I eventually decided to hold the power button so it went off and then I unplugged everything for the night.

I plugged everything in and turned it on today, and the modem shows signs of life: it's flashing, the fan is going etc. but my monitor and other hardware all have an orange light, and don't go green...as if the computer is still in sleep mode. Nothing comes up on the monitor at all when I turn the computer on.

Ok now let me tell you the situation.

I come in the next morning to turn it on and the Monitor stays in sleep mode(I thought that since it was an old monitor that it was the problem but when I grabbed the new monitor and plugged it into the video card it did the same thing) So My motherboard has a CMos reset button that is the next thing I tried but I still get the same problem. Stuck in Sleep Mode.
I would try another Video card but I dont have an extra x16 pci express slot video card laying around. But I may have an old pci slot one(I just have to dig deep for it).

Does anyone have any other good ideas to help me?

Ok, whenever I turn on my computer it all sounds ok, but my monitor just shows up with "DSUB Power Saving Mode" for about five seconds then goes back to black. I've tried a different monitor, and I've tried plugging it into different sockets, but nothing works. I had the same problem a while ago, but it kind of sorted itself out, and I don't know how.

It might be down to the computer itself being knocked a bit, but I doubt it, since its been through much worse.

Has anyone else had this problem? Help would be much appreciated...

Thanks

I did the cmos thing-it failed. Out of frustration, I powered off, unplugged, held the power button down to drain capacitors. Then powered back up and as it was lighting up I kept hitting the power button fairly rapidly, while yelling "wake up < removed by moderator - not required - ETAF > and the beeper went off and I was back in business. I'm not sure if the yelling did it or the power buttlon, but it worked.

So, not always, but once in a while... usually when it's been in sleep mode for a while, the computer will get stuck. Doesn't matter how much I move the mouse or hit anything on the keyboard, I get nothing. Even the off an reset button don't do anything. What I generally have to do is turn off the PS and then boot the computer. When Windows starts up again, everything I had going before sleep mode pops back up, though it does take longer than a normal boot. Anyways, thats my problem. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone,
I have Vista Home edition on my Compaq computer. Everytime I hit the sleep button, the computer goes to a black screen but does not come out when you move the mouse or hit the keyboard. The only way to get the computer unstuck is to unplug it. I have disabled the hibernation mode but this has not help either. I have updated the computer on a weekly basis but this has not helped.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Run through the diagnostics in my sig and upload your system specs. Then update your drivers with the new info of your hardware. Just google the manufacturer.

Hi, I recently purchased a (lower end) gamer iBUYPOWER desktop computer (April 2012). It was suggested to me that I put it in sleep mode at night, as opposed to turning it off every night. I put it in sleep mode last night via the keyboard half moon button (as I've done every night since 4/26/12). This morning when I clicked my mouse to wake it up, the tower, blue lights in the tower and fans turned on. My screen, however, was black with a white/blue box that said "No Signal/Check Signal Cable". I waited a few more minutes, it remained the same. We turned it off at the power button on the front of the tower. Waited a few minutes, turned it back on. Still the same, fans tower & light inside tower worked, black screen with error box.

Thinking it was the monitor, my son plugged his monitor into the tower. Black screen with error box.

I looked up my warranty info (2 yrs service warranty), called the place of purchase (Walmart) who directed me to the manufacturer (1 yr warranty). iBUYPOWER's tech support said it could be a number of things and that safe mode is a microsoft issue. He wanted to sell me a new graphics card and I'd be reimbursed once I returned the old one. I had an unused GeForce graphics card here and asked why I couldn't just try this one and call him back if it didn't work. It would save time and temporary money.

My son swapped the cards. The monitor still appeared black with the error box. He tried using his monitor to ... Read more
