Yoga 720-12IKB 81B5 - BIOS support for boot on timer, wake on AC power?

Q: Yoga 720-12IKB 81B5 - BIOS support for boot on timer, wake on AC power?

Yoga 720-12-IKB 81B5, setting up as remote machine for elderly parents with dementia, needs boot-on-timer and wake-on-AC-power options in BIOS because elderly parents can't be counted on to keep it running. BIOS is 5GCN20WW, no auto-boot options are visible. Machine is otherwise perfect for the task, but auto-boot capability is a must-have for the intended usage.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just purchased this laptop Monday, and this has been an issue from day one. I start the laptop and everything works fine, I close the lid and it goes into sleep mode. When I open the computer and resume from sleep mode the track pad does not work. the only way to get the track pad to work again is to restart the laptop. This happens every single time without fail which makes it a real PITA to use. . . I have updated the synaptics driver and generic mouse driver with no change in behavior. I have completely uninstalled all relevant drivers and let windows re-install them with no change in behavior. I have 10 days left to return this thing, so hopefully I can get this fixed before that because this form factor is great, but I won?t keep something that it obviously broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Long list of items that have crept up on this laptop after using it for several months. . . . The touchscreen no longer works.   I have reinstalled drivers over and over again, deleted and let windows choose the driver, and have tried everything I can think of to get it working. Yet it no longer recognizes touch at all. Bamboo Ink styles works just fine, uninstalling the associated drivers did not change anything. It slowly started to work intermittently and then just quit all together. Keyboard keys just stop working  So far some seemingly random LOWERCASE letters stop working, if I hold shift I get an uppercase just fine, or if I hit capslock it will give me the uppercase of whatever letter is not working for that day, so the button itself is fine. This has happened on several different keys completely randomly for no apparent reason what so ever. The only way to fix the issue once it occurs is to stop what you are doing and restart the computer. . . Doing so might fix it for a week or an hour. In the middle of typing or clicking, or doing anything at all it decides to "sleep"    I can be in the middle of typing something, moving the mouse to click on something, or using the stylus to take notes and without warning it will enter sleep/hibernation mode. . .  I have updated the drivers to the latest that are available, I also updated the BIOS to the latest recommended to see if that might help solve some of the issues. Hi. I've got a Yoga 720-12IKB (81B5003QUS) with the latest BIOS update (5GCN20WW). I would like to enable Legacy BIOS mode, but the "Boot Mode" field in the BIOS configuration only allows me to select UEFI. Is there any way to fix this and use Legacy BIOS?

I have a new since Christmas Yoga 720-12IKB and find that the wifi is disconnecting/reconnecting numerous times per minute. It causes significant distruption trying to use the computer, with frequent errors about not being connected to the internet. Generally causes the device to operate very slow, nearly unusable. I'm not having disruption on any other computers/tablets/phones connected. I've tried a fair amount of troubleshooting but have yet to find a solution. The one workaround that I've found is that when I connect to power, the problem goes away. Remove power, issue returns. Suggests a problem with the power management (or possibly network adapter driver) but I can't figure it out. The network adapter is Qualcomm QCA61x4a. Here's what I've attempted: 1) Disable the power management feature of the adapter (uncheck allow computer to turn off)2) Run Lenovo System Update to make sure all drivers are up-to-date3) Manually updated the driver via device manager (went from .312 to .438)4) Switch roaming agressiveness to low Other than making it a desktop (needing to leave it plugged in to avoid the issue) any suggestions/resolution to this problem? Anyone else seeing the same behavior? Frustrating problem to an otherwise fantastic, fun, and fast Yoga!!! Looking for a light at the end of the tunnel....

As the title says i cant boot into usb.  Via novo button i dont have the option and doing it from windows (shift + restart) yields in a message that i cant boot from USB and the only viable option is the bootloader.  The Bios is the newest one available on the lenovo homepage. But its hardly a bios.  Theres nothing i can do.  Cant change from ahci to raid (not that i wanted too) , cant change from uefi to legacy or both etc.  The only thing i can do (and have tried) is disable secure settings and fast boot.  Never seen such a restricted bios.  Does anyone have an idea how i can get it to work? Maybe a real bios with options or special drivers or settings ive to change?  Otherwise ill have to return this machine.

According to page 102 of the Alienware 14 manual (EN-US), there should be an option for "USB Wake Support" in the BIOS so that the laptop can be woken from sleep by a USB device.  This is important when the laptop is connected to an external monitor and needs to be turned on.
It's ridiculous to have to quickly open the lid, press power and then close the lid again.  If you don't do it fast enough, the external monitor is sometimes not enabled and you have to open the lid again to enable the external monitor from Display Properties.
The option is available in BIOS A00 (although I couldn't get it to work), but not A03, A04 or A06.  Why was this option removed?  I need this feature enabled and working otherwise I'm not sure if this laptop is going to meet my needs.
Could someone from Dell please confirm whether or not this will be possible?

Thanks,
TrueG

A:Alienware 14 (2013) - USB Wake Support Missing from BIOS

Did this issue ever get resolved for you? I am having the same issue with A09 BIOS, It's ridiculous because I literally have two laptops in front of me, my Alienware 14, and my old Toshiba Satellite from about 7 years ago... I uninstalled any Logitech drivers from both laptops, plug in the USB receiver to the Toshiba, it plug and plays, then works fine, I switch into sleep mode on said Toshiba and the Logitech keyboard can bring me out of sleep mode instantly, I don't even have to fiddle around with settings. On the other hand, I plug it into my Alienware 14, it quickly says it's installing drive files, keyboard works, I put the Alienware into sleep mode, but when I use the touchpad, press any buttons on the keyboard, turn off and on the keyboard, press buttons on the laptop itself, nothing wakes it from its sleep (other than pressing the power button on the laptop). I read your posts on the other websites too (a forum I believe it was), and I think I am having the exact same issue. I am running my Alienware in UEFI boot mode, recently switched my HDD to my SSD so that it would perform faster, but I don't think that has anything to do with the BIOS not including a "USB Wake" option, does it? Is it only located in the BIOS when you're booting from Legacy possibly?
Hope you found a solution, because I have spent my entire day off trying to figure out a way to turn my laptop on from afar, but nothing has worked... :(
Thanks a lot.

My notebook computer is Lenovo thinkpad X1 yoga (20FQ), it can?t be enabled WoWLAN capability. The checkbox ?Allow this device to wake the computer? can?t be selected on the power management tab of the wireless network adapter (Intel AC 8260) properties page. Like this: But Wake on Lan (the hard-wired network adapter is Intel Ethernet Connection I219-LM) is ok:Another X1 yoga of my friend has the same problem, but a X1 Carbon (with the same model adapter Intel AC8260) I found has no problem with this. The operation system of the X1 yoga is win10 pro 64-bit (shipped with the laptop by default), and the adapter is Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. I?m sure that the adapter Intel AC 8260 support the WoWLAN function, I checked the documents of Intel. I restored the system to the Windows preload environment, and it not works. I checked the BIOS, the setting ?Wake On Lan? has been enabled, and I uninstalled and then updated the drivers of the wireless network adapter, it doesn?t work still. I googled some methods such as edit the Registry Editor, download the driver (Enabling Wake on LAN) at the lenovo support website, etc., but non-effective. I guess is there something wrong with the drivers or BIOS of X1 Yoga? Or X1 Yoga just simply doesn?t support WoWLAN? Or this problem is due to a hardware failure on some batches? Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks a lot!

I recently got my new X1 Yoga and had to realize, that it wont wake up after the screen goes dark by pressing the power button. Only pressing a key on the keyboard made it wake up, which is a total pain in the ass in tablet mode, as having to fold it back completely defeats the purpose of having a tablet. After some investigation I found out, that this only happens when runnning on battery and it seems to be a regression, since it's only not working with BIOS 1.29 and 1.30. I've tried downgrading to 1.12 and it works, still working in 1.27. Any suggestions?

I usually keep my trusty Yoga 3 Pro laptop beside me with the power cord plugged in at night in sleep mode when I close the lid. This morning when I opened the laptop to turn it on, nothing. Did not start/wake, no power LED either white or amber on side. There has been no trauma - water, dropped, etc - it just decided not to wake up this morning and no power LED is especially troublesome. I have tried to hold the power button in for an extended amount of time to see if it would reset itself, but nothing. My first troubleshooting will be to borrow a friend's known-to-be-working Yoga 3 power charger to see if my charger/power cord is defective/died. I doubt that's the problem, but that's the easy first thing to check. Since I bought the laptop from Lenovo in December 2015, I think the warranty is done, but not sure. (Any comments?) If the friend's charger does not power up the laptop, I plan to open up the laptop (first time for this particular laptop although I've opened up previous Thinkpads and other laptops literally hundreds of times) and disconnect the battery, push the power button for 20 seconds or so and see if there's a discharge that may correct the circuitry. I know I have done this successfully with older laptops. However, I know that Lenovo and other manufacturers are hard-wiring components and making it more difficult to work on. So here's my questions: Will a Yoga 3 Pro power on with a functioning power charger connected and the battery disconnected? I... Read more

When I leave the workstation, I usually just lock the machine (Win + L), so that I can access the laptop from home.  After the latest BIOS update, when I get back to work in the morning, ThinkPad does not wake up no mater what button I press. Opening the lid, shows a black screen, does not respond to anything. The red light on the "ThinkPad" logo is lit.  All I can do is hold the power button for 5 sec and re-power. This is horrible, as it will sonner or later corrupt my Windows installation.  I've had to do this now 3 days in a row, after the BIOS update.  I've updated all drivers and ran Windows 10 update. I recently purchased a Yoga 720-12IKB as a graduation gift. This model came with a 128GB SSD that I would like to upgrade. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could confirm the following: 1) I've found online documentation that this model takes M.2 SATA 6GB/sec SSDs. I am assuming that this means it can't take a M.2 NVMe drive? (Before looking into this upgrade, I didn't know the difference.) 2) Will this model take a 1TB drive? The sizes listed on the hardware manual go up to 512GB. But, that just could just be because that was the max offerred by Lenovo on this model. My question is can it be upgraded with a drive larger than that? 3) Assuming that this model only takes M.2 SATA drives and I can go to 1TB, this drive on Amazon seems like an excellent deal. Can anyone confirm if it will work or offer any downsides to it?  https://tinyurl.com/y4gy9zwp Thanks!

The interesting question that i am left with is what is calling the wake up timer (activeringstimer).
Where does windows keep its logs?
I've gone into task scheduler but it only shows a history per task and appears to lack a listing of the activated task history or a proper search function.
I noticed the windows media center icon flash in my taskbar for a sec after the pc came out of hibernation but i'm pretty sure i never set it up. I tend to stay away from windows media player because of my really bad experience with wmp 8 through to 11. My other suspect is the sidebar. Maybe unrelated but it has just crashed after disabling the wake-up timer.

A:Yoga 720-12IKB enabling legacy mode?

Hi,

I don't have a similar laptop and can't answer your questinon - but why do you need legacy mode?

If your SATA controller is in AHCI mode (and Windows is tolerating that) you should be able to install Linux along side. Several distros will happily boot in UEFI (and secure) mode.

Please explain.  Perhaps others will have suggestions.

Hi,

My computer is unable to sleep automatically and if i manually set it, it will wake up after 1 hour.

Upon running powercfg -lastwake the system states that a particular process is responsible for setting a wake timer.
further checking powercfg -waketimers confirms that there is a process that constantly sets up a wake timer.

Timer set by [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks P
oint of Sale 9.0\qbpos.exe expires at 10:29:59 PM on 12/22/2010.

This process is set every hour from the running of the program. eg open at 9.29, it expires at 10.29. after 10.29 it will reset and expire at 11.29.

So there is no way I can put it to sleep for more than an hour.

Checking task scheduler reveals nothing related.

Please tell me there is a way to permanently block this process from resisting sleep, thank you!

I do not plan to prevent tasks from waking up Windows altogether, so please do not suggest disabling it from power configuration .

The touchpad on brand new Lenova Yoga 720 does not function properly. After install, mouse pointer does not show and the touchpad does not work. The only way to get around on the computer is the touchscreen. Keyboard still works. A hard reset solves the problem temporarily. To get the mouse to show and the touchpad to work, I will have to hard reset the laptop everytime before desired use. If the computer goes to sleep, the touchpad dissapears. I do not think that the touchpad shows up anywhere in my devices. I am not sure because I do not know what the file may be called. Otherwise, I would uninstall the driver and re install. Support said to download driver off website, there isn't a touchpad driver available for download. I'd like to keep this laptop  and correct this issue. But it is a new computer so if there isn't a solution soon, I will return it instead of wasting time adding to it. Seems that many have had similar issues. Anyone any closer to an answer? Hello? Define "decline." What percentage to what percentage. If it's 100-95, that's by design. If it's around 60, you may have battery conservation mode engaged. At least I THINK that's available on the 720.  If you're down to 20% and it's not charging, then there's a problem.

Hi all

I recently clean re-installed Win7 Pro 64 and now the Power Options keep reverting to High Performance every time I re-boot and even on wake up. If I set it to a power plan every time it works fine that one time.

I didn't make any changes to hardware/bios from previous install. The only change is that I first installed XP x86 to a separate redundant HD to enable a legacy scanner for which no 64bit drivers are available and I only boot into XP on an occasional as and when basis. I didn't make any changes to Windows boot manager & can only boot into it from F8.

I also downloaded a legacy game from Steam which is running happily on Win7. I rapidly decided that I hate Steam so I set it not to run at startup, only play offline and kill all associated process after closing the game. Again, I'm not running the game on a daily basis so it's unlikely this is affecting this persistant behaviour.

Grateful for any ideas.

Ian

A:Power Options change on Boot/Wake Up

Please Run sfc /scan now using option 2 in this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back the results.

I have a Yoga 15 (20DQ). After a BIOS update about a month ago I am encountering many issues. 1) Lenovo no longer recognizes the machine for updates and support.2) Backlit keyboard does not function correctly (F keys / hotkeys / backlight / Fn / Ctrl are not configured correctly)3) Touchpad will work in BIOS but not in windows.4) Splash screen is NEC and no longer Lenovo. (motherboard?)5) Model and Serial are incorrect in the system. I have flashed to earlier versions of BIOS and this has not resolved. Before factory recovery I set to defaults. (obviously unsuccessfully)I have factory recovered with fresh install. Question: Is there a mechanical switch that would hang and make the keyboard and touchpad inoperable?  Im scratching my head... looking for solutions... Please help.

A:LSB & support unable to recognize Yoga 15 after BIOS update ++

Dear customer,Can you advise us below information in BIOS Setup ?  - UEFI BIOS Version  - UEFI BIOS Date  - Machine Type Model No need to capture System Serial number, System board serial number. To enter the BIOS Setup, press F1 during "NEC" logo is displayed?  In case F1 key doesn't work to enter BIOS Setup, please use F2 key instead.

Setup:
OS: Windows 7 SP1
MB: ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3
CPU: i5 2500k
GPU: HD 6850
Monitor: Hanns-G HZ281HPB

Issue:
My monitor won't wake up when waking up my computer from sleep. It also won't initially turn on when booting the computer. I am forced to turn the monitor off, then back on in order for it to turn on.

I've tried everything I could think of, so I am coming here, hoping someone can help me.

Forgot to include the fact that I am connecting the video card to the monitor with a HDMI out (from video card) to DVI in (to monitor)
