Q: Lenovo Y50 touch screen, ghost touches

Today my lenovo started randomly showing as if someone were tapping the bottom of my screen and pinching. It reoccurs frequently, is extremely annoying, and causes general chaos. How can i fix this? Ive tried updating display drivers and touchpad drivers. Please HELP!!!

Hello, I have had my Lenovo Flex 4-1470 laptop for about half a year now, have always taken careful precaution when carrying it, etc. Recently, Upon touching the touchscreen on the right side and bottom of the screen, I am experiencing these "ghost" or "phantom" touches where I touch that part of the screen and it presses on a random part of the screen. The middle and left sides of the screen do not seem to be affected, however, the top of the screen seems to refuse to calibrate to my finger correctly despite calibrating the screen many times. I have updated the touchscreen driver to find that I already have the best and newest version so that cannot be my issue. I have seen that this was a common issue on the Yoga 3-14, and that there was a firmware fix to this... So far the only "fix" I have seen to this issue is disabling the touchscreen altogether, but I bought this laptop specifically for the touchscreen capabilities. I have not physically damaged the laptop, so I am curious on why this is happening.  Is there a firmware fix or something to that extent or will I have to send the laptop to Lenovo and get it repaired? Any Help would be appreciated --Kaitlyn

Hi everyone, I am experience a lot of problems with the touch screen on my Yoga 3 14. At least once a day I am getting ghost touches, i.e. it starts thinking that the screen is being pressed when it isn't. It closes windows, opens the keyboard and types, etc. I've noticed it mostly in laptop mode, but that may be because that's how I use it most of the time. For now I resort to putting it into hibernation or having to do a full reboot, and it fixes it for a while but always starts up again. It happens in different places on the screen, usually just one at a time but occasionally multiple touches. I've had the laptop for 2 months and have had the problem since week 1 or 2.  Is there any solution to this besides calling support and having them replace the screen/other parts?

Your problem might be similar to this thread.
 
If you barely use the Touchscreen to navigate around, can you try these steps to disable the feature:
1. Press the Windows key? +R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter (this should open the Device Manager).
2. On the Device Manager, click View > Show Hidden Devices and under Human Interface Devices section, uninstall the HID-compliant device touch screen (this is the driver that controls the touchscreen).

3. When finished, reboot the system and observe.
 
If the above procedure works, you should be able to use the system normally but I recommend that you report the issue by contacting lenovo support.

Hello,
As with everyone with these laptop models, I have the issue where a part of the screen becomes unusable and starts doing ghost touches.
I've isolated the issue to TWO particular devices and I've made a script to fix this issue everytime it happens.
THE PROBLEM STARTS when the touchpad and/or screen stops receiving power (at least 5 seconds), like for example when you close the lid, or when it goes into suspend mode. When powering it back again, the problem starts.
My partial solution evidences that this is A DRIVER ISSUE. Stopping and restarting the problematic devices fixes it.
To automate this process, here's the Windows batch script that I run everytime I resume power of my laptop. It requires Microsoft's DEVCON utility to run.
devcon disable *USB*0396*devcon disable *ACPI*DLL068E*devcon enable *USB*0396*devcon enable *ACPI*DLL068E*
I can provide more specific info if a Dell engineer/s gets the proper attention to this issue.

I am getting ghost touches all over my touchscreen, plus the mouse barely works and the keyboard doesn't work at all when the ghost touches are present.  I am running on Windows 10 and have owned this laptop since May of 2014 (purchased new directly from Lenovo.com). This issue is getting worse and worse as time goes on.  Even when I disable the touchscreen capability (via Device Manager/Human Interface Devices) it is  not permanently disabled and it just comes back on randomly, without me enabling it again. If you could tell me a way to permanently disable the touch screen feature, at least that would resolve the main problem for now. Obviously I'd love for my touch screen to work properly though. I've been having this problem for many months now, though in the last month or two it's gotten a lot worse and a lot more frequent (at least once if not multiple times a day).  I am at my wit's end. Thank you.

Hello - I haven't had this computer a week yet and I'm having issues with what I seen posts on for Ghost Touches.  If I leave the laptop idle for a while I can turn around or walk past it to see the screen going crazy.  Like someone is using the touch screen.  If IE is maximized, it is flipping through my favorite bar items, if it is minimized I see the white touch marks on the screen.  I do not know how to fix this.  I have seen other posts for updating but the Monitor is Generic PnP Monitor for the value and not LG.  Has anyone seen this before and can they help me?  I do not want to pay $99 for support.  Thanks!

Have a problem with what might be ghost touches on the touch screen. When playing fullscreen movies it sometimes randomly pauses and/or resumes as if someone touched the screen (or pressed space). Not always, just sometimes. I have found no pattern. Not tied to a specific application as far as I can tell. Also, once earlier today, the display went bananas with crazy ghost touches everywhere all over the screen when i switched to tablet mode. It has been confirmed the solution you referenced for ghost touches on the Yoga 3 14 will also resolve ghost touches experienced on Yoga 700 14 laptops. Lenovo is in the process of publishing the LCD firmware update specifically for Yoga 700 14. 
 
I will post again when the update becomes available for Yoga 700 14.

I've seen related posts, though my problem seems to be unique. Basically, the screen/digitizer works perfectly 90% of the time.  About 1 in 10 times I e.g. resume from sleep/hibernation, I get myriad ghost touches all across the screen, sometimes 2-3 touches per second. The behavior persists until I shutdown or put the computer to sleep. When I resume the computer from sleep, the issue is resolved. I'm running Windows 10, have reinstalled the relevant driver, and have updated the BIOS.

For the past few monthes I have been experiencing ghost touches on the screen of my Lenovo Edge 15. I have disable the touchscreen because this problem leaves it unusable. I know a solution has been found to solve this for the Yoga but have not found one for the Edge 15. Has anyone found a fix?

Hi Everyone, A few days after I received my TPY 15 with Windows 10, it began to register random ghost touches which close and open windows, pause videos and such.  It typically happens when I power up the computer (startup, coming back from sleep/hibernation), I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if there's a solution.

Seems like the LG monitors had this problem, but I'm here to say that it's a problem for the Lenovo monitors as well. My touch screen will register multiple random touches over several seconds, opening apps, closing apps, switching windows, and making the computer unusable. The LG firmware patch doesn't apply, and this has been an intermittent problem (naturally I'm a few months out of warranty). Is there a fix? Restarting and cleaning the screen have had no effect. Oh god, just please make it stop! How do I disable touchscreen inputs (grrrrrrrrr!)?

I am experiencing frequent ghost touches on my new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (3rd gen). This means that one can see the Windows 10 visual effects of a touch on the touchscreen and the corresponding opening of windows or apps on the taskbar, without anybody actually touching the screen. I have a 900-13ISK2 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80UE Yoga laptop bought less than a year ago. It has three year onsite warranty. Since the time I bought it, the screen goes periodically berserk with ghost touches. All my open windows start getting toggled by themselves, random windows open, while some others I am working on get closed; its maddening. Complained to tech; they did some research and replaced the entire LED screen; basically one half of the laptop. Same problem. Multiple engineers have visited me and sat and did all sorts of engineering; no results. In desperation, I even went online and handed over remote access to the online tech support; same result. Now I use the Yoga after disabling touchscreen through device manager;  which kind of defeats the entire prupose of buying a Yoga. They know its a defective piece and a hardware issue; but refuse to replace. What should I do! I am at my wit's end!

I've owned an ENVY 27-p000na for the past year with no issues, but recently I've started to observe ghost touches. This problem has got worse to the point where the PC is not useable unless I disable the touch screen via device manager. But even this is becoming difficult as I have very intermittent control of the mouse. The ghost touches tend to be in the top right hand section of the screen, and often on one specific point. I've thoroughly cleaned the screen. A driver check says the latest version is installed, and a Windows diagnostic check does not highlight any issues. Does anyone have a solution to the ghost touches issue?

I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been great for 10 months.  PROBLEM:  2 days ago, the screen pointer (arrow) began appearing in the lower left hand corner, jumpiong around, and iinterfering with the ability to use the mouse.TEMPORARY FIX:  I found that if I push hard anywhere on the screen, it seemed to "freeze" the "jumpy pointer", and I could use the mouse.  After looking into several things, I found that I could eliminate the problem by disabling the touchscreen (by going into Device Manager, and selecting the touchscreen, then disable)QUESTION:  Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue, and how to fix?  I doubt hardware, because I am careful with my PC, and rarely use the touchscreen, and keep it clean (gentle, barely damp cloth only).

So, My ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DM) has this issue where randomly, there will be randomly screen presses across the screen. This will usually click some link I didn't want to, so it disrupts my workflow. I don't have a precise  way to replicate it, but it feels like maybe it's related to when the laptop is hot? Hi I have a Thinkpad TP 14 - 20DM008UUS  and I didn't experience that issue.Can you share your full model number and which Windows version are you using? Just my thoughts... When you said " randomly screen presses across the screen" do you think it cames from the touchscreen? Did you see some "screen animation" like the circle that Windows produce when you touch the screen, or the cursor moving when your issue happens? Maybe it can give you hints on where is the problem. Do you think it can be the Touchpad that when you move your fingers or when you have your palm over it? Or is happens  when you are typing? Since I'm a driver freak, I always try to stay up to date with the firmware and drivers for the machine.If you want to you can also try to update the drivers with Lenovo System Update first. Regartds

Previously my desktop had this issue and i had disabled the touchscreen from the human interface section under the device manager. However whenever i plug in any driver, be it my mouse or thumb drive or anything at all, my desktop will automatically reinstall the touchscreen driver and make my screen go nuts. I have a lenovo y50 4k touch screen and since I have purchased it I have been having a ghost touch problem.  It would think that someone/something was touching it but nothing was. This happens about one every 3 days and lasts for about 5 minutes and then fixes itself. It keeps happening in the same place and wont let me move the mouse. This has been happening for few months now and it can get pretty annoying. I would really appretiate it if someone could help me with this.

I have major problems with my Yoga 2 having ghost touches. They are about 3 inches from the left side of the screen toward the top. I recently just got this brand new laptop for christmas, everything worked perfectly untill one day when an update occured the screen  would seem like if a ghost were touching it , it will touch it self all over the place , its so annoying. i restored the computer and it worked a little while until it started happening again, i already tried the troubleshooting steps and none seem to work, I disabled the touchscreen driver- enabled it again, calibrated the screen, ran some tests and it just wont stop doing it, right now i have the driver disabled because it wont let me do anything without the screen touches , please help me.

Many users have written about problems with ghost touches occuring on touchscreens the majority being in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Suggested fixes include removing "fast startup" option and reinstalling firmware. Has HP published a proper fix for these issues as they can render the machines virtually useless in some cases. Many thanks

If updating the BIOS and graphics drivers apart from the other suggestions has not helped, I would suggest taking your PC in for service as there may be a something else that may be causing ghost touch to register on the touchscreen of the PC.

I found another post on here nearly a year old outlining the same issue. There was no reply to it so I'm not confident I will get one now. ThinkPad L580 goes to sleep or black screen when the user's wrist touches the left side below the keyboard and next to the trackpad. Does anyone know of any way of fixing this??? I just got this laptop a few months ago back in August and after about a month of using it, it started ghost touching.  I'll be in class typing and all of a sudden the screen shows multiple touches on it.  It'll open folders, start programs, etc.  I don't even need to be using the laptop either.  When I'm just listening to lecture and not even touching the laptop, it'll still show touches all over. For now I turned off the touch screen feature, but I bought this laptop specifically because of the touch screen.  Any help would be awesome!

Hi everyone, I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but sometimes my screen on my less than 3 month old hp pavilion x360 has major ghost touches. Its like someone is touching screen but im not touching it. It touches all over; exiting out of programs i have open, zooming in and out, clicking random things. I don't know what to do about it. I've tried cleaning the screen multiple times and it still happens. I barely had this computer for 3 months and i haven't done anything but light tasks on it and college work. I haven't dropped it, had it around water, or anything that would cause this to happen. Maybe it is a problem caused by an update, because it only recently started doing this within the last 3 weeks. I have already factory reset it and nothing seemed to change, it still has ghost touches. Any advice or help please?

Having issues with constant ghost touches on touchscreen. Have tried checking for updates, uninstalling/reinstalling driver. Ended up disabling driver. Tried re-enabling after a bunch of updates and there are so many ghost touches that it took over a minute to click the "disable" button and make it stop. Have seen previous models have had luck with firmware updates. Anything like that available for the 720?

I am having an issue with my screen ghost touching in the top left hand corner.This seems to happen when I am online gaming but doesn't happen when I am just browsing the internet and hasn't happened whilst I've been on the forum this morning.It takes my cursor up to the top and minimises any windows that I have game play on. (not in full screen)I have tried re-calibrating my screen and also have ensured that their isn't any other devices near by that might be causing magnetic interference.Any ideas how to fix this?If I turned off touchscreen whilst gaming can I switch it back on again easily?

I have a month old yoga 900 and the ghost touches on the screen drive me insane.  It doesn't happen all the time but some days it'll just spaz out like crazy and ruin all my work.  I have seen in the big post there are a bunch of people complaining of the same problem with their 900's, as well as mentions in other review threads.  The 900 seems to have an LG screen as well, but the firmware update fix for the yoga3 and 700 does not run on the yoga900.  It's linked below:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/SF15-I0024 I tried to open a support case today but all they could come up with is send it in and maybe we'll replace the screen while i'm without it for ~2 weeks.  Seems unlikely that will fix the issue and I don't really want to send it in and have to give them all my passwords so they can login and test.  The firmware update worked for the other models, hopefully if they see it's an issue here as well a firmware update will get released for our models. The hardware id shown in the properties of the screen is: MONITOR\LGD04B4   which seems like it's an LG and probably similarly effected. Anyone else?

A couple of months ago we bought 14 computers Yoga 700-14ISK (with integrated GeForce), and most of them are concerned with the ghost touches problem.It really causes troubles when your computer becomes crazy displaying a powerpoint presentation in front of a group of customers. I downloaded all the recent drivers on the Lenovo website, but it did not solved the issue, ghost touch still appear. So whan can we/you do to solve it? Thank you.

So, I too am reporting the ghost touch issue with my Lenovo laptop.  This is on the Yoga 710-15IKB model.  Same exact issue that others are reporting on the 700, 710, and 900 models.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled ALL drivers found for this model, updated drivers via Microsoft, have the BIOS update, made countless changes to the touchpad to see if it is the issue.  But, NONE of those things have worked.  The issue appears to happen randomly after waking up from sleep.  Usually within a few minutes after wake.  I can do NOTHING to stop the issue once it starts other than to hard reset the power button, then wait a few seconds and restart.  Once I've done that, the issue is resolved until... whenever it randomly wants to do it again... usually the next day. Lenovo... there has to be a solution to this!  You resolved it with a firmware upgrade on the older 700 model.  Can you work through the issue and get us a solution?  And, please, don't say to send the unit in for repair.  The issue clearly is a firmware issue.

Ghost Touches - I see phisical touches on the screen when I am not touching it. It looks very similar to what you see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ooSJdcRqyo It mostly occures when the laptop resumes from sleep or extended use. This makes the laptop unusabble and I have to hard reset to get it working properly again.  I have contacted Lenovo 3 times (Every time they have been very friendly and helpful. They also call me imedietly)Call 1 - I let them remote into the laptop. They uinstalled and re-installed some drivers and asked me to try it out. The issues were still there within a day. Call 2 - I reported the issue is still there. They remoted back in. Tried an update on the panel that did not apply. They informed me that the panel was defective and I would need to send it in. They asked me to carry it into my local Best Buy Geek Squad. They sent it to Kentucky for repairs. (I updated the bios, drivers, and reset the device) Geek Squad said that there was nothing wrong and that they updated the bios, drivers, and factory reset (Thats not ture). They sent back the device. (Lenvo has been great. Best Buy is a company I hope I never have to deal with in the future) Call 3 - I tell them that nothing has changed. They are now sending me a box to send the device back to the same exact facility in Kentucky...  Has anyone else expirienced this issue with the Yoga 900? It happens a lot during the use of Windows 10. So i use chrome..it still happens though. Yoga 13 had a firmwire update for their LG hardwire format.... where is our update......? Hello, I just received an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen (2017) with monitor "Flexview Display 1920x1080", which is having constant "ghost touches" unless I disable the "HID compliant touch screen" in Windows Device Manager. The ghost touching happens constantly, rendering the device useless while the touchscreen is enabled. It is also focused on one specific area of the screen. There were no problems the first day, the problem seemed to start after I converted the machine into tablet mode and wrote notes for 10 mins using Windows Sketchbook and the included pen. I'm running Windows 10, basically just out of the box after going through a few rounds of automatic system updates.I have the most current driver of the Wintab Driver for Wacom Pen 7.3.4.33. I've seen this thread for the Yoga 3 which has reported a similar issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/26944/page/9 The problem goes away COMPLETELY if I disable the touchscreen and returns if I re-enable it.

It randomly logs me out of my applications and assignments. I am a online student and almost failed my quiz because it exited me out during the middle of taking it. ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Hi Magnutus, welcome to the forums.
 
Please check if you Lenovo S210 is on warranty under with this tool.
After that you can open a ticket with Lenovo for the screen to be fixed, if it is not under warranty it will have a cost.
 
If you are the guys that like to fix it yourself (and it is not under warranty) I can recommend you to check the support site for your model, read the Hardware Maintenance Manual (on the documents area) and check how the machine is organized on the inside. On the parts lookup page you can find the parts number so you can find a replacements for the component that is giving you issues.

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I have a brand-new ThinkPad T560 (20FH002DUS) that is experiencing ghost input with the touch screen. I've left the laptop sitting next to me and occaisionally it will light up with random inputs all along the bottom left corner of the monitor. The driver pack I used for imaging is the latest one found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/olddownloads/ds112139I've also updated the BIOS.
