Exporting Hotmail messages from Outlook Express to Outlook 2000

Q: Exporting Hotmail messages from Outlook Express to Outlook 2000

I mainly use Outlook 2000, however, in order to get a number of Hotmail messages onto my computer's HD, i synchronised Outlook Express with Hotmail. I now have messages from a folder I have on Hotmail on my hard drive too.

A search revealed that this folder (and presumably all messages in it) is stored under C:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{00B31680-0793-11D3-A398-C0610D677E39}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

I copied the .dbx file named hotmail - [folder name].dbx to my desktop. I went in to Outlook 2000 file>import blah blah blah, but it wont let me import .dbx files

soooooo.....is there anyway to get my messages from hotmail from this specific folder into outlook 2000? i no longer need the folder in hotmail and will just delete it as soon as i have a permanent copy on my hard drive in outlook 2000. im assuming that since the dbx file is on my hard disk with all the messages (which i can read offline in outlook express) that i wont need to set up outlook 2000 for hotmail synchronisation ?!?

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

(1) I need to move OE mail messages from one computer to another. I am confident that my issue is not the first time this has come up.

Please refer me to the article/discussion where direction has been given to the expoting and importing of OE mail messages.

(2) I have the dbx files saved from an installation of about 6 months ago (including the 'folders.dbx file) and I cannot get these files imported.

(3) How can I import a single message folder, like the 'Inbox' from one computer to another? If this can be done, and I import the inbox.dbx file into another computer that also has an inbox.dbx file, will the imported file replace the file that is resident? Will the names of the mail folders imported have to be changed to be different from those that are resident on the computer to which the importation process is to take place?

However, if I want to download or export a couple hundred of them from one Outlook folder, how do I keep them as separate files in the WE folder? I'm a Hotmail Plus (is that the right term?) user so I'm paying for expanded service. It's been fine for nearly a year now, but recently, my connection has been shaky - sometimes connecting, sometimes not.

Now, I can't connect at all and I get the following errors:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'The server could not be found.'

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x800CCC19) : 'A timeout occurred while communicating with the server.'

I did some trial and error work and realized that the problem is with the URL I'm using:

This address must be incorrect because when I put in "http://www.hotmail.com" instead, it allowed me to get through but only once. That means that the issue is not with my Outlook.

Is there another address and is anyone else having issues with the above address?

What else could be wrong?

I'm trying to read the e-mails from my old Windows 98 computer on my current Windows XP computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully do this. The e-mail client on the Windows 98 machine was Outlook Express 6 and the one on my current XP computer is Outlook 2002.

I followed the instructions listed on the Microsoft support site (Article ID: 270670) for backing up the data from Outlook Express which left me with a folder of .dbx files (Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc) which I then burned onto a CD and transferred over to my XP computer. My problem is that now that I've done that I'm not sure how to get Outlook 2002 to import that folder of .dbx files or recognize it. I googled it but didn't find any helpful results other than links to expensive conversion programs. So could anyone here offer any help on the matter? Thanks in advance.

When WIN XP atrts up, error reads: "spoolsv.exe - application error - Exception in privileged instructions at location 0x66f46798". Too high tech for me! Bypassing this, I, cannot print any messages (emails) in Outlook Express (or Outlook). Get error:
" Error line 1343" If I DO hit debug a yellow arrow points to a line that starts with a colon. I can probably copy and paste that line here if needed.
Comments: No spyware, no viruses, because of other problems , reverted back to IE6 (from 7).
Please note: Word and Excel docs all print fine. I can copy and paste the email into Word if necessary. Outllook sends and receives normally, it is only the print function failing.
In Add/Remove did a repair on Office 2003, nothing changed. Googled spoolsv.exe and some think it is a virus (I don't).
Another error that came up (once) was simply: "c:\program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" If this file is missing, can I just copy it from another XP unit here and put it into place without further screwing up the works?
Any help appreciated - if further info needed (like a screen grab of the debug instructions) please advise.

Delete Windows' temporary files using My Computer > (C:\) > right-click > Disk Cleanup and remove all except "Office Setup files" and "Compress old files" (Office setup used to maintain Office, Compress old takes to long).

After this is done on the "Tools" tab in the same area run Scandisk (restart required) followed by Defrag (after at least one complete restart) and see if the error condition clears up.

This all around, all purpose troubleshooting tip can sometimes resolve issues of an indeterminate origin. I checked Microsoft's Knowledge Base for "0x66" under "Outlook Express 6.0" and "All Products" and found nothing relevant. The Knowledge Base is at http://support.microsoft.com (FYI).

Hey all. I think I know how to do this, but let me double check before I wipe my laptop's hard drive and reinstall Windows 2000.

First off, I should tell you that the reason I am wiping is because it has 98 and then 2000 on top of it...and it runs so slow!

But anyway, I have old email files saved to my AOL Filing cabinet in Windows 98 (AOL 7.0 I believe). I need those emails saved so that I don't loose them. I notice in AOL 8.0 there is a "backup" feature. Does anyone know if this feature is available in 7.0 and if it will restore my whole filing cabinet for that particular screen name.

Also, I assume that will work with my 8.0 emails in 2000...just send that backup file across the network to one of my other PC's for holding, and then format and "restore" from backup when I am done...I won't loose any emails will I?

Also, recently a user here has been using Outlook Express for emails, but they dont like it. I suggested Mozilla Mail, but they didn't like that because it didn't have a spell check. So I suggested Netscape which has a spell check, and they said OK.

Is there a way to export my Outlook messages and import into Netscape? I don't know if they have an address book or not, but is it possible to do that also?

I know a lot of questions and text.

Thanks In Advance

*EDIT* Also, how would I import them into Mozilla mail?

I don't like this import export stuff anyway. Just find the address book in windows explorer, right click it, send to floppy.
Stick floppy in new computer and drag address book back to where it lives on new computer, replace exisiting, yes (as long as there are no addresses in there), copy and paste to the floppy first if there areor vice versa depending how many addresses.

During the course of my own research for this question, I have encounter mixed answers, so I now turn to you for some help.

I am trying to configure my hotmail account to work with Outlook Express... and it is not working. I have come across MANY answers on the web. Some say that MSN/Hotmail doesn't support hotmail being used with outlook anymore, while others say that theirs is configured and works fine via outlook. Some have tried to use POP3 settings with some success even though hotmail clearly runs on an HTTP server. Some say that it stoped working around 2002 only on new accounts, while others say they think they are still able to use OE because they were grandfathered in. Whatever the case may be... I cannot get my hotmail account to configure properly with Outlook or OE. Does anyone here know a way around that? Or are you aware of any programs that I could use to set it up?...for example, I found a program that is supposed to do exactly that for Yahoo! e-mail accounts called YPOP or YPOP3. Anyone know anything about that. Or, can anyone suggest another e-mail client like pegasus, eudora, mozilla, thunderbird,...or any other one that I can use with my hotmail account. Or does anyone know if any of them, or OE work with Yahoo!, GMail, or can you suggest another free one that I can use???

I am following instructions to export addresses from Yahoo to Outlook 2000 per website http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/addressbook/impexp/impexp-06.html
My issue is that I follow everything correctly saving my addresses as a .csv file and during the process of going into outlook and choosing "import address book from a .csv file" I get a prompt to download the import/export feature.

I no longer have my disk so cannot download the feature. I was wondering if anyone knew of any freeware that can override this issue.

Microsoft should have downloaded it initially when I inserted the disk, not prompted me to find the disk I got 7 years ago because it never loaded the first time. I recently changed to Outlook and subscribed for $20 to Yahoo Plus because Yahoo is having all these server issues on their end. Now I have to deal with this! Please tell me how to get addresses into Outlook if possible without the disk. If it's not just let me know so I can save my time!

A:Solved: Exporting addresses Outlook 2000 without a CD

I don't personally know. However, w/r/t this bit:

First, export information from your Yahoo! Address Book:

1. Open your Yahoo! Address Book and click "Import/Export" in the upper-right corner.
2. In the Export section, click "Export Now" next to the phrase "Microsoft Outlook."
3. A dialog window opens and gives you the option to save your Yahoo! Address Book to disk as a .csv file. Click "Save to Disk".
4. Click "OK". The .csv file will be saved to your desktop.

In Outlook Express, there's an option to File > Import > Other Address Book, which then has a Text File (CSV) option. I don't know if that works straight off (don't have a CSV to test with), if it does you can then export from OE to Outlook without getting the import/export feature prompt (because I just tried that part).

So ... do you have Outlook Express?

EDIT: actually I justed tested exporting my current OE address book as a CSV, and then importing it back. Worked with no prompts.

I have a computer with Windows XP and have used Outlook Express 6 for many years as my e-mail client.  Recently I tried to export my files and folders to Microsoft Outlook on the same computer, so that I could save the PST file and move it to a new computer with Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook.  I did this successfully 6 months ago but kept using my old computer.
Unfortunately this time there seems to have been a corruption in the export process, as the PST is corrupt.  I tried to use Microsoft's Fix it tool but it did not work.  Furthermore, now everytime I start Outlook Express, I get the message "address book failed to load.  Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, etc."
I can still see all my messages and folders in Outlook Express, but if I click on a message to open it I get "there was an error opening this message.  An error has occurred."  I tried deleting the wab but that didn't work.  I tried re-exporting the files to Outlook but that didn't work either.
It seems like maybe there is a conflict between Outlook Express and Outlook, but I don't know how to resolve it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The files you are looking for are in a folder called Outlook Express and will have the extensions .dbx

They will be in a directory path similar to the one I've include below except for the number enclosed in braces. If you don't find a path similar then just do a search for the directory Outlook Express.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{F71B2263-58F5-45EF-8A2D-B337C0C73961}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Just replace the .dbx files on the new machine with the .dbx files from the old machine.

Hello everyone (And sorry for such a long thread title!)

One of the elderly gentleman where I work, has been given a Dell laptop by his Son that's running W7 64bit.

He has a copy of Office 2000 that he would like to install on this machine, and use the bundled Outlook from it as his default e-mail client. The only problem is, the current desktop PC he's using, is running Windows XP (unsure which version) and he's got Outlook Express as his e-mail viewing software on there at the moment.

Can the profile (sorry if that's the wrong term) from XP's Outlook Express be "ported" into the Outlook from Office 2000, whilst all of this is running on W7 64bit?

Many, many thanks in advance

A:Migrating XP's Outlook Express to Office 2000's Outlook on W7 64bit

Office 2000 is not supported on Windows 7, and is insecure and past it's lifetime support. That said, there may be workarounds to get it to work on 7, but that's probably more difficult then your original question. I'd think your friend would need a newer version, then revisit can it be done For instance:

Trying to use Office 2000 would not be at all advisable.

Sorry if this is a silly question for you all, but here goes...

I just today started using Outlook Express at work. After setting everything up I tried sending test messages to my two Hotmail accounts from work using a POP3 server. The messages send, but nothing shows up in Hotmail. No error or bounceback messages or anything. Messages do get sent to other addresses...just not Hotmail addresses.

Any ideas??

I have been quite happily using OE 6 for a while now. I sign onto my broadband connection, hit send/receive and that's it...the emails come flooding in.
I thought I would install Outlook 2000 as I used it at work and it felt more familiar then OE 6. After I had done the installation I connected to broadband...hit send/receive in O 2K and was then prompted for the username and password, which was already filled in and the check box for saving the details was filled in (I have re-entered the password on numerous occasions...just to make sure it's correct). Everytime I click on OK the box it keeps reappearing and no email received or sent.
I then opened OE 6 and hit send/receive and the same thing now happens the box appears asking for the username and password, which is already filled in and correct. This never happened before, until I installed O 2K.
I've checked with my ISP and they confirmed they weren't experiencing any problems and my account wasn't locked. They also checked my settings with me and they were also correct.

Can anyone help? I want to get rid of Outlook 2K now...go back to OE6 and not be presented with the username and password all the time...it's driving me crazy.

I'm not sure at what point you are getting that message and from where.... but if you are getting the message below:
and it is already filled in - and it reappears - that is usually that your ISP doesn't like the info that it is seeing. I have seen problems in the past where everything looked fine to both parties and yet it didn't work. The ISP changed my password to another and it worked and then we both changed back to the original and all was fine. No explanation for why.

Check with them again. Perhaps they are mispelling something or using a space or something different from you.

i have just inported my contacts and inbox from outlook express 6 to outlook 2000 but it did not copy my folders, does anyone no how to copy folders across thanks

A:outlook express 6 to outlook 2000

What OS are you using? Well depending on your heirarchy, your OE folders will be here:

Documents and Settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{(gibberish goes here)}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

All of those .dbx files are all of your messages and your folders. As for importing, I'm not sure whether you would just simply run an import and point to this folder and it would detect it, or if you would have to cut and paste it into the Outlook folder. I don't remember because I'm not in front of my home computer right now. Have you tried "Import Internet Mail and Addresses" already?

Sorry if I don't remember... but hopefully you could figure out from there now that you know where your OE folders are located
