Help Activating Windows 7

Q: Help Activating Windows 7

I have a legit copy of windows 7 am I have just attempting to re-install on a computer of mine. I do NOT have it installed anywhere else, I am NOT trying to install the same copy of windows in tandem with another computer. I have also re-installed in the past with zero issues across different hardware setups.

So, I type in my product key and it doesn't appear to work. It never tells me the key is invalid, it just won't accept it current. It prompts me with the typical options to contact MS to buy a new one, etc. I am kind of at a loss now. I have uninstalled from one computer and installed problem free to another in the past without an issue. I don't know why now this is a problem now.

Preferred Solution: Help Activating Windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I re-configured my laptop recently, a few days after, I started getting a little pop-up that said I had a certain number of days to activate windows... so I clicked on it numerous times and it said "you have already activated windows, clik ok to exit" ... so I did. The same pop-ups kept happening, and I kept trying, but always the same prompt. So I guess time has expired to activate windows (even though it always said that I already did) and now I cant log in! When I turn on my computer it tries to log on but then It says I must activate my windows before logging on, but then it says I am already activated. Then I try to log on and it repeats the same message. Sorry for the novel guys, but Im desperate to fix this problem! I have windows xp. Any advice will help!

Last year I bought Dell...Last week lightening got it, taking with it my family tree that I've worked on for yrs...[ I had just reached a point to where I was going to back up my family tree but lightening got to it first] ...So I took the hard drive out just in case it survived and put it on an extra pc [which is not a Dell]...
The hard drive seems to be there because it shows my old wallpaper, but it keeps asking for my "Windows XP Activation Code" which I don't have...[maybe it was on the tower that I pitched after removing the hard drive]...
Is there a way I can get around activating so as to retrieve my family tree?

Hi People

I recently installed a new motherboard and I had to perform a repair install of Windows XP. Now I have to re-activate Windows. I am reminded of this every time I Reboot. However when I click Activate Windows my pc stops at the desktop wallpaper before the icons and taskbar show up. And it stays there and stays there forever until I reboot again.

If I click NO to 'do I want to activate Windows' and click the Windows Star at the bottom right of my taskbar I am directed to a webpage that tells me my copy of windows is not genuine.

I got my copy of Windows directly from Microsoft. I know for a fact it is genuine. So how can I fix this?

When I perform the operation below I don't have an 'activate windows' button on my copy of windows xp. Its not in accessories or anywhere.

Click Start.
Point to All Programs.
Click Activate Windows.

I got my Samsung Series 9 repaired and, as a result of some component changes, Windows 8 is no longer activated. Can I use a copy of Windows 8 Pro (which is intended to allow Windows 7, Vista and XP users to upgrade to Windows 8) to activate Windows 8? In other words, will the product key of an upgrade package allow me activate Windows 8, despite it not being an upgrade (my computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed).

A:Activating Windows 8

In this case your first point of contact should be Samsung Support, if you contact them and explain the situation they should organise activation of the pre-installed OS. Microsoft may be an option though pre-installed OS is officially the responsibility of the OEM.

It may be possible to "upgrade" using a retail copy of pro, but then of course you would lose the use of the pre-installed copy that you have already paid for

Hi all,
just signed up with a question for ya!
Would anyone know why my windows installation needed re-activation when i turned on today?
I had to activate it recently when i installed the latest catalyst drivers, and also once before when i updated the firmware versions of my two dvd/cd drives, but today i got the message that hardware devices had changed and windows needed re-activating,its no problem doing it over the net but the next time i have to phone a microsoft support person to activate it i want to know what is going on,in the meantime i was wondering if anyone is having similar issues, all my hardware drivers are installed and up to date and the system is working great, its just getting a bit ridiculous this out of the blue need for activation again.
Thanks for any insight.

A:Activating windows xp(Again!)

XP checks for "points" on bootup and it looks at the hardware and CPU, and everything until it adds up 7 points. Then it boots. Anything less is a re-activate. You said you updated firmware for your ROMS. That may in effect make XP think the drives had changed. Normally, one drive at a time, nothing happens, but when you make 2 or more hardware changes, the XP wants to know why. Activation over the phone is easy. Just tell the person what you have done and they will give you an ungodly long number to enter. Like 42 digits. Nothing to it. Took me less than 3 minutes to do.

So my friend was using my computer (which did not have a 'genuine' windows, this is another problem) and he downloaded and installed some kind of software on my computer which was supposed to activate my windows. But a couple days later, when i turn on my computer it boots up normally up to the part where it is supposed to connect to the wifi. There is a spinning wheel above the wifi symbol, the security essentials is turned off and nothing i click on does anything. I tried to restored to a previous restore and nothing doing. I tried to removed the hackware in safemode, but the removed button becomes faded and nothing happens. I tried the repair system and again nothing. This sounds like the end of my hard drive. What do I do?

A:Activating windows

I do not know what your friend did but you do not need to download software to activate Windows. Those who do are typically attempting to use some type of crack or keygen program to circumvent Windows activation which is not only illegal but a security risk. I recommend that software be removed and you contact Microsoft if you are receiving messages about not having genuine windows.Microsoft maintains multiple Product Activation Centers worldwide to provide assistant and telephone support for activation issues. A:Activating windows xp

Yes you will need to purchase a license. Normally, licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - unless the new motherboard is virtually identical (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed.

Two problems really.

1. Maybe I've never noticed it before but all of a sudden I keep seeing the popup for windows 8 activating again. Just seems strange that it would be trying to activate again even though it shows activated on 6/23/2013.

2. This problem is a little different. Different computer but activation problems again. My laptop for some reason last week kept asking me to reactivate over and over again. It would say successful and then I would go look and it was needing activation when I checked. It did this 4 or 5 times and it currently says activated. This one says activated 2/19/2013

These are both Windows 8 Enterprise from my MSDN.

Any ideas?

A:Windows 8 seems to be activating over and over

For each computer....

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window (in Start, type 'Command' - a Command Prompt icon will appear, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator)
At the Prompt, type

Licensingdiag.exe -report %userprofile%\desktop\report.txt -log %userprofile%\desktop\repfiles.cab

(note the spaces!)
two files will be put on your desktop -
open the 'report.txt' file in Notepad, and copy/paste the results to your response - you can ignore the repfiles.cab file for the moment, as it's only backup data

I have problem , I have 2 copies of Windows XP and recently have tried to update my Windows ME computer to XP I basically was having trouble with ME and wanted to have all three PCs on the same network using the same OS.

After wasting so many hours trying to get into Dos in Windows ME, I finally figured out how to format it and now I have installed Windows Xp. Everything went pretty smooth until I get to the Activation Screen.

I know have 30 days but I want to have this thing working now once and for all. I have tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system rejects the product key. I tried activating over the net and they tell me the same thing.

The product Key came with the disc. I am in the process of calling Microsoft but I was wondering if anyone knew what could be the problem here?

A:Activating Windows Xp

Do I understand that you have 2 copies of XP, but they are installed on 3 PC's?

Can't do that, every PC must have it's own licenced copy. It cannot be installed on more than one PC (or it fails activation).

However that may not be what you actually mean, it's hard to interpret exactly.

But if its a new, unused copy of XP that is failing activation then a phone call is needed.

I just solved a huge issue with windows 7 installation Freezing before it finished...

Now I am having a issue Activating it Windows 7 Home Premium on this HP G61

Due to the fact that the tag on the bottom of the laptop is worn and unreadable in parts, before I re-installed windows, I used a Product Key Grabber to grab what I thought was my windows key...
(This turned out to be a key registered to an ASUS laptop)

So now I have a fresh installation that needs activation and a half-unreadable product key.

I've read that you can call Microsoft support to activate over the phone, so I called them...
they told me I would have to call HP to get it, since Windows was preloaded on the machine when it was purchased...
So I called HP, after like 15 of trying to understand the lady who was asking random questions, she tells me that I have to purchase an extended warranty for them to read the product key to me, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.

So my question is, what the hell do I do with this now?
Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Activating Windows 7

Not too sure, but it's either buy an extended warranty or buy Windows 7 and use that product key.

But, don't quote me, just guessing here.

Here's my situation:

Today I reinstalled windows because it was giving me problems, reinstalled some programs, recovered backed up documents etc. However, I still need to activate windows, but I can't. The product ID shown in my "System" panel is "invalid for activation," and when I try to change it, I cant do that either. I cant change it because (and I forgot to mention, I made this computer so its an OEM version of Vista) the product ID on the sticker that is supposed to go on your case is no longer valid because when I got a new motherboard, I had to call to activate windows. So I guess the question is, who do I call to get a new product ID, and what information do I need to tell them?

I am having a tad bit of a problem with computer, after a bit of hardware upgrades, I noticed that my Windows is no longer activated. And because I got the free upgrade from windows 7 to 10 with the whole update thingy, everything was dandy until now. I am not able to activate it, even though it says on my profile that I have Windows 10 pro on their website, but on my own settings, it says it unactive. So I rather not buy a new windows when I had one that worked before all this...and changing it back wont help any either now.

And here is my secondary question: Not having an activated windows, will this have an impact on how my computer handles programs? Because..it seemingly is!

My games are running smoother..ish...but it really acts up really quick with lag spikes and what not, even though my games are running smoother, and nothing was bad before the hardware upgrade.

PS: I have tried doing what Windows recommend doing when you have had a hardware change:

I have a Sony Vaio SVE15113ENB laptop. It had windows 7 before but last month I purchased Windows 8.1 upgrade key. But instead of upgrading I downloaded the iso and then did a clean install. I don?t know if the problem is only with sony vaio?s that if you dont follow the proper procedure not all driver install properly. The same has happened with me. The sound driver is installed but does very feeble sound. As the vaio has this xLoud volume booster, it hasnt installed properly. So my question is whether I could use the windows 8.1 key I purchased to install windows 8.

Hope to hear from the experts here.

Thank you

A:Activating Windows 8

If you want to downgrade to Windows 8.0. then no, the 8.1 key will not work.

Unless there is compelling evidence that the 8.0 drivers work better, perhaps it would be better try re-installing various driver versions, if not the the OS itself.

I have plan to upgrade my laptop hard drive to ssd about next month,

My laptop came with preloaded win 8.0, and as far as I know, the key number are stored in bios, so kinda auto activation...

My friend has a "pirated" win 8.1 installation (there's activator in the dvd), my question is can I use that dvd for installing windows on ssd and then activated via oem key? Because downloading the iso file of win 8 are time consuming and taking too much internet quota

And, because this is my first time dealing with this kind of activation, is there any important thing I need to know about the activation? I just don't want to get problem when activate my windows....
Thank you

A:About activating windows question

Stay away from "pirated" versions of anything!

It would probably be easier for you to use backup imaging software to dissimilar hardware. All information from your HD would be transferred to your new SSD including the OS. You may have a minor activation issue but this could be easily fixed with a phone call.

Can I use my Windows 8 from my old Lenovo laptop and activate the license key to the new one? Do I have to unistall Windows 8 so I can activate on the new one? Or because it's embedded on the bios I can't use it on another laptop even if I uninstall it?

I've been using an old E8400 based machine for years, I've gradually updated the power supply, Gaming Video card and new SSD and Windows 10 is still activated. Unfortunately a couple of my racing games have had major upgrades and slowed my system down severely, due to mainly the slow CPU.

In order to update the CPU I had to get a new motherboard and ram as well. I installed everything and booted up offline and everything updated, drivers etc, but now Windows 10 is inactivated.

Will the new motherboard etc stop me from being activated online, or do you think it will activate. I can go back to Windows 8 if need be, but it would be a mammoth task.

A:What are my chances of Windows 10 Activating

The free Upgrade is only good for the life of "the device" -- and MS considers the motherboard to be "the device". That's what got registered when Win10 was activated.

When you swap the motherboards, Win10 will be deactivated as this new motherboard is not registered with MS.

We have a .NET web server hosted on NancyFx, that we are trying to keep working cross-platform between Windows 7 and 10. We recently migrated from HTTP to secure HTTPS, and there is a discrepancy. Looking from Chrome dev tools, our server running on Windows
7 is serving requests with TLS 1.0, while on Windows 10 it is using TLS 1.2. We have tried a number of instructions, published by Microsoft and others, but none of them had any effect:

The application targets .NET 4.0, but we are are currently running it on the latest .NET Framework installation 4.8. We know this had previously fixed issues with TLS support for our .NET client applications.

Good day all,

First of all, sorry if this has been posted countless of times before but I couldn't find an answer that specifically suited my situation.

In 2015, I have upgraded my Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10. After that, I did a clean install of Windows 10 and was able to activate it. However, I found Windows 10 to be a bit unstable at that time and I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro again and have been using it ever since.

I have 2 questions regarding my current situation:

1. IF I want to do a clean install Windows 10 again, do I have to upgrade from Windows 8.1 first to activate it and THEN do a clean install of Windows 10 after that or is that unnecessary now?

2. I have read that upgrading to Windows 10 would be free in the first year from release, which is I assume until July 31 2016. Although I have previously activated Windows 10, I went back to Windows 8.1 Pro (clean install). Does this mean that, also in my case, I'd have to pay for upgrading to Windows 10 if I ever plan to upgrade after a year?

Hi everyone
I am having a weird problem . Today i was installing windows 7 professional . I have the MSDN academic licensce key .After installing OS i connected to Internet to activate it online . When i tried to enter my key . I got an error -- unacceptable character
--Please check your product key  and try again . when i tried a number of times i still got the same error . The weird thing is I found that the key made of all characters except " a,e,i,l,n,o,u,s,z " is accepted but the error is only for these characters
. Even if the first chracter i enter is happens to be one of these I get the same error ..Cant understand why it is happening ...? It is my first installation with this key which i got from my college. Any help Please...
Thanks in advance

Like you noticed youself, the characters you specified are indeed not used in license keys. If those characters are present in your license key, you should consult with the source you got them from.

Hi Sevenforums!

This is my first post here so I'll introduce myself very quick. I'm Nicolai, I live in Denmark and I am a Windows fanatic. Now that was short!

Anyway, I recently managed, through my work, to legally get a copy of the Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit retail, and I'm just loving it so far! I am however, quite messy, and I have a feeling that the little piece of paper containing my serial number will be gone very soon.

So ehrm, can I activate Windows 7 without waiting for the 30 days to pass? If yes, how?

Also, I know this is a bit off-topic, but where do learn to modify the right-click context menu via Regedit? I tried downloading some files on here and it did frankly not work for me :\

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Yes you can get it activated, but you will have to call (number given in activation screen) microsoft to do so (should be no program).

Sorry if this has been asked already, but I have a few questions.

I am upgrading my motherboard soon, and from what I understand, windows keys are tied to the motherboard and not the hard drive. Is this correct?

I have a windows 7 OEM copy; disc/key is with me. I upgraded to windows 10 when the free upgrade was released. I will not be wiping any of my hard drives, so I am wondering the following:

Will I be able to activate windows 10 on my new motherboard with a Win7 OEM key?
If not, do I need to buy a Win10 OEM disc/key for the new motherboard because of this?

Upon changing motherboards and starting up my upgraded PC, will windows ask for an activation key? If not instantly, will it do it later on?

Thanks in advance.

A:Activating Windows 10 on a new motherboard

OEM is good for installation on only one computer. Change the motherboard and you have changed the computer and it is illegal to use your OEM license (product key) on the new motherboard. Therefore, since you only had one OEM license for Windows, and you have already used that on the old motherboard, you are left with no license to legally run Windows on a new motherboard. When you change motherboards, Windows will deactivate itself and nag you at increasing intervals to activate it.

You will need to purchase a new license from Windows 7, 8, or 10 with a product key to activate the Windows 10 on the new motherboard. Also, you can upgrade with a new license (product key) - such as from Home to Pro - but you cannot downgrade from Pro to Home without doing a new, clean install.

Hello All,
Here is my dilemma with activating Windows:
I activated Windows xp about a month ago but just recently it said I have to activate it again.
But each time I click "okay" to activate it again, it takes me to the blank windows desktop of mine and I get a message saying "Windows is already activated" and it kicks me to the log in screen where it gives me the notification to activate windows, again. And when I click "okay" (again), the same thing repeats.
I am stuck in this eternal loop.
I am using a MacBook Pro 15 inch using BootCamp to use windows if that information helps at all.

In advance, thanks for the help

Reinstalling is not an option for me because I am on vacation and I left the installation CD behind.

A:Problem with activating Windows

Hi, To use Boot Camp you must use a valid Windows Product Key, that is, one that has not been installed before you put it on the Mac

Valid means a Product Key that has not been activated at any other time.....unless, it was the full Retail version, in that case, you can install it on successive locations, using it on one at a time.

Where did the copy and Product Key come from that you are trying to use? , It sounds like the computer is using the 30 day grace period allowed if you do not Activate Windows at the time of installing.

Cannot activate Windows 8.1 pro (preloaded) on Dell Inspiron 14 3421. Trying to activate it online gives an Error code: 0x8007007B. I checked Microsoft Support but no DNS / Network problems are there as it suggests. I cannot enter any product key since I didn't get one.
