My Inspiron 15 7000 7537 keyboard arrow keys, space bar, n, b keys not responding

Q: My Inspiron 15 7000 7537 keyboard arrow keys, space bar, n, b keys not responding

Several days ago I noticed that these keys were having difficulty in responding when they were struck. Sometimes I had to press hard on the keys to get them to work until eventually they stop responding. I am wondering if it's a hardware or software problem. I used an external keyboard as well as the onscreen keyboard and they work fine. So should I replace the keyboard???......

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you're upgrading, you actually don't need to make any changes.  Plug in the flash drive, click on the setup from there, and kick off the installation directly from under Windows 8.1.

Hi I have a HP pavilion g6 laptop on windows 7 home premium. A few weeks ago the space bar enter back space and up and down arrow keys stopped responding whilst I was typing on face book. I shut the laptop down, this did not work. I checked the filter and sticky keys weren't on , I put them on then unchecked them to clear. This did not work. I went on the HP help site where they suggested I take the battery off and hold the on button for 60 seconds then power back up. I did this and to my surprise it worked. Great I thought. But just a couple of days ago the same keys stopped responding again. I tried the same fix but this time nothing.
Can anyone help.... Is this a common fault ? I need the keys to work again ASAP.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Hello,How can I get the home and end keys near the arrow keys on my keyboard without losing page up and page down?I'm a power screen reader user and use the home and end keys once every 5 minutes and I use the computer for around 9-10 hours a day. This means there is a whole lot of moving my hand from the arrow keys to the top of the keyboard. After a day of using my new laptop, my arm is starting to hurt from moving from the bottom to the top of the keyboard so much. What most manufacturers do is have fn+left be home and fn+right be end. They also have fn+up be page up and fn+down be page down. I would love this! Currently the page up and page down keys are right above the arrow keys. FN + page up and down being mapped to home and end would be great as well. I can't figure out how to map fn keystrokes using something like Auto Hot Key though. I would be OK with swapping the home and end keys with the page up and down keys, but I can't figure out how to do that either. Auto Hot Key does not work 100% of the time and I need this functionality 100% of the time. What method would be the best for me to get home and end by the arrow keys?

I am used to using the hjkl keys as arrow keys on my home computer by using xmodmap to avoid moving from the home row. Is there any way on 'microsoft windows 8' to configure the hjkl keys to be used as arrow keys while a modifier key such as 'ctrl', 'alt' or 'meta' is held down?
The hjkl keys must still be able to function as normal when a modifier is not pressed.

Hi! I am new to the boards. I seem to have a rather odd problem. I have an HP zv6203 Notebook computer, about one month old. Everything has been zipping along- no problems. Until now. When I start to use arrow keys [>] and [<] to navigate in text documents like WORD or a web email program, it starts spitting out seemingly random numbers. And I just started to notice somethiing with the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN buttons beginning to do this as well.

I contacted HP support, and was told to delete the driver and reboot, but the problem still persists. I've also rolled back the computer using SYSTEM RESTORE twice, to no avail. Now they say to re-install the OS. If not that, then it's a hardware problem and to send it back.

Of course, I got it at Sams Club, which has a ridiculously long return policy (six months!), but I actually do like this computer. It's just this is annoying as hell, and I am sick of putting up with it.
Thanks for anyone able to help and/or even knows what would cause this. You would think a keyboard would be one of the MOST reliable components to a computer.....

And no, nothing spilled inside the system.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR363. Since last evening, I'm facing a problem with the four arrow keys. They type strange characters.

The up key ends up tying "oig". The down key ends up typing a backslash. RIght key types "LJH" and left key types ",mn". This is happening in all the applications - office, notepad, browser, etc. It's the same characters every time, not some random characters. For example, if I turn the Num Lock on, the "oig" becomes "65g".

All other keys are working absolutely fine. Only these four keys are an issue. These also work fine for 2-3 mins in between suddenly, and then go back to their erratic but predictable ways!!

I tried uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling, cleaning the keyboard (the keys are absolutely in shape visually). As a heavy user of Office, I am finding it impossible to handle this even for a day...

Please help with a solution/ suggestion....

A:Keyboard problem - arrow keys type junk characters

In our experience with the Vaio keyboards, you have reached the time when a replacment NEW keyboard is the best option.
Sometimes, turning the keyboard upside down and giving it a thorough cleaning with difluoroethane gas such as Dust Off (a lot of it) will take care of it... but not often.

Front arrow key only works if it's the only key pressed on my entire keyboard at that moment. This creates a lot of problems in games i play. Like in car driving games, i cant accelerate and turn my car at same time (i have front key = acceleration key). If i press one of the "turn" key first, then i cant accelerate while turning. I have both, XP and Vista installed (dual boot), and this problem is present in each of them. I removed the front button off, cleaned it, including the actuators, but no good. :a

A:Microsoft 7000 Ergonomic keyboard hot keys not working

Just to confirm, you said you installed the latest "IntelliPoint" software. IntelliPoint/IntelliType were superceeded by Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre on supported peripherals.

Looking at the following list of supported devices, it lists 'Natural Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard 7000' as a Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre supported device (assuming that's the keyboard you have):

Therefore, it maybe worth trying Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre 2 and see if it that solves your problem.

Hi to Toshiba forum members
My Satellite S50-B has had weird functionality traits with the delete key and the arrow group keys since a Windows 10 update was done sometime before summer of 2018.
I have tried several times to source the fix - reinstalling the keyboard driver, checking drivers, etc with no success to date.
Interestingly enough, I have Virtualbox installed and have discovered that the same troubled keys function just fine in a virtual machine OS running in Virtualbox - so that shows me that "the issue" is not a physical hardware issue with the keyboard.
I have not noticed an issue with any other keys to date.
Can anyone in the forum provide a solution to this problem?
As a note, the laptop (which was bought new by me in Aug 2014 for tech school) has not seen heavy use and has never had Windows wiped or reloaded.
I have only upgraded the OS from OEM Windows 8 Home x64, to 8.1, then lastly to Windows 10 Home x64.
I run MS OS updates frequently to stay ahead of trouble.
This issue seems to involve a driver incompatibility with Windows 10.
Laptop history - I had a similar function issue with the touchpad while it was 8.1 which was finally corrected with an OS update.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello! I have a Windows 7 HP Laptop, and the other day I noticed some of my keys (F, J, K, L, :, L Shift, and Space Bar) are being unresponsive. When I touch them down, they go down fully and swiftly, but do not respond on my screen.
Example: I am writing up a paper on word, and when I hit the Space Bar, no space is made.

Because of this issue, I have defaulted to an Onscreen Keyboard, which is very hard to use, as I prefer typing. I have already removed the key caps, battery, and back cover to clean for dust, but nothing was fixed.

If you have a solution, I thank you.

A:Some of my Keyboard Keys are not Responding

Hello pbjms,

Prior to the issue, did you recently install any new software or hardware?

In addition to using the onscreen keyboard, have you tried an external USB keyboard?

If issue is not software related. The onboard keyboard may be defective.

First you could try a system restore, go back before the issue appeared.

System Restore

If system Restore has no effect on keyboard issue, then try sfc /scannow.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hope this helps,

I have had it for a couple weeks now and it is very touch and go with the key responses, especially the space bar. I am a fairly quick typer but I still need to stare at the keyboard. when I look up, random words are stuck together becauseof the problem. See what I mean? I have some prettyheavy keystrokes but still have problems with missing letters and finding the sweet spot of the space bar. I have enrolled in online university and have tons of papers to write. I cannot handle it. What can be done? It doesn't feel like a sensitivity issue because I will press the space bar at one point and it wont work, move over a 1/2" and it works.

A:Inspiron 15 3521 Has very annoying keys and space bar.

I tried your solution, Lily Munster, but it didn't help (none of the wires were mis-seated).  HOWEVER, your post (and andydgg's just previous) did put me on the right track to a fix.   After pulling the space bar cap off as you described, there's a small button covered with a transparent or translucent rubber boot. That is the spacebar actuator - when you press the space bar, it presses that button, and a space appears at your cursor position on the screen.  What needs to happen, is the spacebar cap needs to press down on this button better.  To make that happen, tape a small (around 1/4 inch X 1/4 inch, or 6 mm X 6 mm) spacer (piece of cardboard, thick paper, or some such) on the underside of the space bar cap where it presses down on that little button (on mine, the spot where it presses the button was a bit worn, so I could see the spot easily).  Then put the space bar cap back in place & test.  If it still misses spaces, you might need to thicken your spacer a bit.  If it makes spaces too easily (for instance, if after you replace the cap, it starts constantly spacing), then you'll need to choose a thinner spacer.
It worked on mine.

The problem began almost a year ago where about three keys would sometimes work and sometimes not, but recently it became more persistent to the point where those three keys don't work at all anymore. Now more keys are starting to develop the initial problem (and soon will stop working entirely, also).

Laptop specs are...

System type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor
I can't recall if the problem started before or after updating to Windows 10, so I haven't tried to revert back to 8.1 (and I don't want to if I can help it, quite frankly, but will if suggested necessary). Here are solutions I've tried to solve my problem, all to which none have worked...
Carefully removed unresponsive keys from keyboard without damage including the plastic clip that snaps between the key and the laptop keyboard, and thoroughly cleaned with compressed air.

@NCISfan44? You can adjust the keyboard speed pretty much in the same way this worked in previous versions of Windows. Control Panel > icon view > Keyboard > Keyboard Properties >> adjust as needed Example Reference:Typing speed is slow on windows 10, how to change keyboard speed? Other than that, make sure you have installed / updated your relevant HP Drivers for Windows 10.  Sometimes the Drivers in the computer's Driver website support page are newer than your "new" notebook. System:HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab271sa (ENERGY STAR)  You might take a look in the computer's Troubleshooting section.   Although there may not be the "exact" document you seek for your issue, it is a good idea to peruse the sections and see what is there.  The same goes for the Howto section -- there is a bunch of information available. Your computer's User Guide provides general information and a bit of "howto" for some items.  When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

It seems that I've solved my own problem. After searching around on the internet I found this link "Resolve Hotkeys or Volume control keys not working on Microsoft keyboards"

After going through all the methods recommended, the fourth one worked out for me. The problem was that my Human Interface Device Access was not on. The volume controls started working for me.

Recently my dell inspiron 7537 is having problems opening properly. I am not sure if it is the way I carry it in my back back (college student) but I always use a case with it and make sure to be gentle setting my backpack down, etc. I have had this computer since 2014 and never had any problems, I love it!. But recently when I try to open the laptop for use the right side makes a popping noise at the crease and the bottom right of the screen (not the touch screen portion but where it is black at the corner) is popping off. I can see the lights behind it. I am able to press on the screen to get it to pop back in place but even when it is in place and I test it by opening and closing it the same popping noise happens and the portion of the screen is raised again.
Is this a problem I live with now? Any solutions? I bought my computer at costco but I can't remember if I had a warranty or if it even lasted this long. Any suggestions?
Also the actual computer functions just fine, no problems booting up or anything.

Hello all,
I recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) with Windows 8.  I'm getting used to Windows 8, but really struggling with the integrated touchpad.  It's getting so frustrating I'm considering returning it.  The problems are hard to pin down, but in general:
-I often get the right click shortcut menu, when I'm just trying to click.  I've even changed both the right and left hand buttons to both be "click" (and neither be shortcut menu), but I still get the shortcut menu a lot.
-Sometimes the cursor gets stuck and doesn't respond to movements.  I've tried adjusting the touch sensitivity and disabled palm detection.  No change.
Any advice?

Hi Bill,
Don't have the laptop myself yet but others have suggested uninstalling the Dell touchpad drivers and installing the ones directly from Symantec's site.
I'll link you to this owners thread, might get more help there

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

Update:  It has now been over a year since I sent mine back to Dell for repair. I have had NO issues whatsoever.  They charged me approx. $159 which included shipping.
This also fixed the charger port issue!  It must be related to the keys not working issue.  DO NOT let them sell you a new charger!
When the laptop is returned to you, they will call you to follow up to see if the issue has been fixed.  When they do, be sure to tell them how disappointed you are with Dell and they will refund $20 or $30 (cant remember which).
They didn't keep it long at all;  I think they are very familiar with this problem and know exactly how to fix it!  I hope this helps those who are still experiencing this problem.

My name is Kristina, and I've been having a lot of issues with my built in keyboard.  A lot of the keys stop working at random times.  I have tried to reset my computer but it doesn't help.  I end up having to use the touch keyboard, and I don't like to.  This is also the 2nd computer I have gotten from dell, the first one had the same issue so bad we couldn't even finish the initial setup.  This is getting very frustrating, and I'm about to send it back, I just don't want to.  Please help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 and a majority of the top keys on the keyboard aren't working; more specifically the Q-R, and the U-P keys. I've had the computer for about 2 years now. I've had a previous keyboard issue in the past where I would type a the "I" key and it would type both the "I" and "O," but this was usually fixed by just restarting my computer.
I've tried the keyboard troubleshooting procedure, but that didn't solve anything. I'm considering buying a new keyboard for my laptop but I don't want to waste the money if it is an issue with wiring and not the keyboard itself. Does anybody have any clue on how to fix or test my issue?

A:Keyboard keys not working (Dell Inspiron)

I suggest that you replace the defective keyboard which is easy to do and costs about $15.  Procedure is available on youtube.
