Q: what wifi adapter is compatible with windows 8

I am trying to connect my desk top to a mobile hotspot. I bought a netgear n150 wireless usb adapter and get message an error has been encounter and then a restart any ideas?

Preferred Solution: what wifi adapter is compatible with windows 8

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: what wifi adapter is compatible with windows 8

Go to the manufacturer's website and see if there's an updated driver available.
I upgraded to Win 8 on a new computer that has a Ralink wireless card. It would only connect randomly. A trip to the Ralink site and newest driver solved the problem.

UPDATE: Here I found this - right near the top under downloads is a Win 8 beta driver. Read the instructions to install.

Recently, I've been attempting to use my NetGear WG111T adapter in order to connect to my wireless network. However, the software to install, even the most recent version, is not able to complete the necessary steps to establish connectivity. The provided "Smart Wizard" will load, and then disappear a second later. I am given no access to my network whatsoever.

I'm wondering if there's any way to fix this, or if there's a different adapter I could try? I've looked at the things regarding the WG111Tvx.inf file, but I am unable to locate it, and do not appear to have this file. The closest I have is WG111Tv.inf.

If one is able to provide me with this file, it would be most appreciated; failing that, I am open to suggestions for other USB adapter solutions.

I have just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from the Consumer Preview. I am using a Virgin Media supplied Netgear WNDA3200 network adapter to connect to a Virign Media Superhub, but the drivers for the adapter don't seem to work with the release version of Win8. I had the same issue with the CP of Win8, but was able to resolve it by downloading the 1.2 version of the WNDA3100 driver from the Netgear website. I have tried this and all the other WNDA drivers including the windows 8 beta ones, but the adapter still isn't working.

It seems odd to me that it would work in the CP, but not in the full release version of Windows 8.

If anyone has any ideas as how to go about solving this issue, they would be much appreciated.

After much frustration, I figured out the issue. It turns out that the adapter had defaulted to running one of microsoft's drivers, which was not working correctly. To get around this, you need to make sure you already have the driver installed, then search for "Device Manager" in settings (without quotes), and open Device Manager. Once it's open, sroll down to Network Adapters, and expand that. Then double click on the adapter. It should open a small window. Navigate to the 'Driver' tab, and select 'Update driver'.

From there, go to 'Browse my computer for driver software', click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer', and click the 'Have Disk' option. Browse to where the driver is installed (usually under ProgramFiles(x86)\Ne... Read more

I am using Inspiron 17R SE 7720 (Service Tag: B8P81W1 | Express Service Code: 24470701201). The BIOS firmware is latest (A17).
This laptop is included in "Computers tested for upgrade to Windows 10".
However I expect problems in Windows 10 when going to sleep mode and/or entering powersave mode - WiFi stops working after waking up. It is a well-known problem and it is caused by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wi-fi adapter used in my laptop. The problem is driver-based and Intel has no plan to solve it because the adapter is obsolete.
I am going to upgrade my laptop replacing Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 with new Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. It has the same form-factor and officially supports Windows 10.
Please let me know is there any restriction in BIOS those prevent changing WiFi adapter in this way?

Hello,    I have seen a few posts and tried the responses and nothing has worked.  Hp Pavilion g6 that is now running windows 10, and my wireless adapter is no where to be found.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple drive types before going back to the original set that was loaded. I have tried the "netsh" command sets that one post has recommended. If I plug the machine in hard wired it works perfectly fine. Other than my wifi adapter completely missing and nothing incorrect with my device manager.   So I have no wifi adapter, no error for my adapter, and have tried all hardware on this notebook.  I have also tried it in 3 different locations with 3 different routers. I have tried to upgrade drivers and nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions would be a major help.   Thanks ahead of time.

Good Morning,

For the past few days, I've been having issues with my laptop. The other day I kept getting the message "Unidentified Network. No internet access" so I tried almost everything to fix it with no luck. Yesterday I instead got the message "There might be a problem with the wifi adapter?" I don't know if this is a good sign or something far worse.

Hopefully I can get this resolved. Especially with school and all. This has me really stressed out.

Thank you in advance.

After updating my 8710w from Win 7 to Win 10 it sporadically bluescreens, blaming the driver for the wireless adapter card (Intel 4965AGN).  A bit of searching reveals I am not alone with this problem and that Intel do not intend to update the driver any further (up to Win 7 only). I could discard the 4965 card and use a USB WiFi dongle, but I'd prefer not to if possible.  Has anyone tried a newer internal WiFi card in their 8710?  I gather that if for example I could fit an Intel 6300*, its Windows 8.1 drivers are compatible with Windows 10.  It would be a cheap experiment to simply try and see if it works, but I thought it was worth asking for others experience first, since one article I found suggests a hardware upgrade might not be allowed: "If you have a laptop made by HP or Lenovo, they will only allow certain cards to be recognised by the laptop?s BIOS. You can check compatibility on their websites." Any advice gratefully received. *Newer cards than the ageing 6300 would have drivers directly compatible with Windows 10 but I have the additional complication that I can still boot this machine into Windows XP (!) so I would need a card that's also backwards compatible with that.

A:Anyone tried an updated WiFi adapter in an 8710w for Windows...

Hi: Unfortunately, no other wlan card other than the ones listed in the service manual will work. HP used a BIOS whitelist feature which locks out any unsupported wlan cards. The PC will halt on boot until the unsupported wlan card is removed. I have the HP 6910p with W10 and the 4965 ag card, and it works fine. I installed the latest W7 driver offered by Intel, enabled WMM, set roaming to lowest.

Hi all,

I just reinstalled Windows 7 on an older notebook (one of the first with it, so it was ORIGINALLY with Windows 7) and am now having issues with the WiFi. It has never had any issues with this before, so it is not an issue with the hardware.

I have followed the instructions given on a few sites and I have found that the WiFi card is listed under problem devices in the System Information window. The vendor # is 8086 and the device # is 422C. After finding that, I went on the hunt for the drivers/adapters for this, but I was unable to find them. I downloaded the wireless drivers available on Dell to no avail. Even after installing each and restarting it did not fix the issue. The only driver that seemed to match the lookup for that device was hosted on HP, but installing that also did nothing.

If it matters, I am currently on a Dell Studio 1558 Laptop. Any help would be appreciated, and I will give any information necessary. I have attached a picture of the System Info Problem Devices. If anyone knows what the others are or if they are important, I would appreciate that too, but I care much more about the WiFi.

A:Wifi adapter missing after Windows 7 reinstall

Device #422C is a Broadcom WiFi and Vendor #8086 is Intel.
So if Dell is of no use, start digging around Intel or Broadcom's sites for native drivers.

I recently upgraded the OS on my old Pavillion dv6700 notebook from Vista to Windows 10. The wireless network adapter often drops out when the device is not in use - it may work okay for days, or  sometimes only minutes. Sometimes running the troubleshoot routine resets the adapter and sometimes the adapter has to be disabled and then re-enabled. (Turning the laptop off and on again also works.) I understand that this is an old device, but everything else works fine and even though this problem is relatively easy to rectify, it is annoying. Is there a simple solution to this issue.

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

Hi all, used BC for a fair while, but its my first ever 'Help me' post !
I have a customer that has had an issue with their laptop (Toshiba Satellite L300)
The wifi hasn't worked for a while, was the best I could get out of the customer...
From what I can find, they have upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 and it seemed to have screwed up the wifi.
So far I have managed to relocated the correct driver for the lan (wired wasn't working either)and have the laptop running through a wired connection, however I cannot get the Atheros AR5007EG driver to recognise ANY wireless SSID within its range.
I have installed as many drivers as I can ( was the latest driver I could find, but have used windows update, along with all the drivers on the Atheros.cz website) but it still will not find anything. I have a separate router with an open SSID (both in A and G) aswell as my secured 'N' router (which I also opened, to see if that would work), yet it cannot see diddlysquat!
I've tried turning the wifi card on and off through both Fn+F8 and the switch at the front, which has made no difference.
I've even changed the wireless card, to a different Atheros (ended UG, can't remember the part number!) and tried a Vigor N61, neither of these recognised anything either ?!?!
I really am stuck now as to where to go next (I bloody hate VISTA!!!)
Any ideas??? I'd be hugely greatful!

A:Windows Vista and Atheros AR5007EG wifi adapter

I am not sure if this is your problem but try the Microsoft Fixit. Vista sometimes has a hard time getting a DHCP address from routers. Have you tried putting in a static IP?
Just to confirm the chip. Right click the wireless adapter in Device Manger, select Properties and under the Details tab select Hardware ID's. Copy and Paste the first line in your next post.
When you right click on the adapter does it say it is functioning properly?

I'm trying to set up a hotspot with my laptop for my phone because I have no wifi. When I plug in an ethernet cable the wifi adapter becomes disabled. I need it to stay enabled. The reason I need to do this is because with NETSH WLAN commands you can create a wifi hotspot by sharing the internet connection on the wired adapter and broadcasting a ssid on the virtual wifi miniport adapter. ''netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspot key=Password''.But with my wifi adapter disabled the wireless autoconfig service (wlansvc) is not running, which is needed. When I try to enable my wifi adapter or the wireless autoconfig service they simply disable again directly after.
My network adapters are Intel(R) Dual Band wireless-N 7260 & Realtek PCle GBE Family controller.
There is no Intel? PROSet/Wireless software interfering, and I don't have any Wireless_autoswitch software installed on my laptop (as far as I know).

Please help me?

I thought that was the problem but looked into it more and some people on a different forum told me that it is not a problem with Windows 8 and it is a problem with the Wireless Adapter. I'm not too sure now, because the reviews said that the adapter worked well after the downgrade. I need some opinions and help because being on a slow internet connection is killing me. Let me know if you need more information.

I have 3 Probook 4530s Laptops. They have i5 CPUs USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports along with bluetooth 3.0 and HD display. The WiFi adapter speed  is 150mb on 2.4 gz band. At this time they all have 4g RAM and 1Tb hhd installed. I like the units as all of them were built in May and June, 2012. What I need to do is increase the internet connection speed plus add the 5.8 band to the 2.4 band. I would not like to have anything sticking out of the side of the computer that needed to be removed that might get lost. Can I replace the internal WiFi + Bluetooth 3.0 adapter to pickup the speed and both bands? If so, can anyone tell me what adapter I need to me looking for and what driver. I do not want to loose the bluetooth in all of this as I know the kids will want to use it.This whole building project I guess is my way of telling them that I'm with them if they need any help. Our time means more to them then money these days. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. I also have Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot option on this machine.

Recently I got a BSOD with the following error -

Since then Windows does not recognize the Wifi network adapter. It is not there in the Device Manager at all.

It does not seem to be a hardware problem because when I boot using Ubuntu, the Wifi works without any problem.

Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue. Since the adapter is not being listed in the device manager, I don't know how to update or reinstall drivers.

After updating to windows 10 the wireless adapter worked fine until a few months ago, when an update rolled out and killed off the adapter. Nowhere to be found on the Device manager, its just gone.  The F12 Wifi key is permanently orange. Running on a USB dongle adapter for now. I've downloaded a few different drivers from links on the forum, but none of them have matched my specific configuration. Please help!

My office laptop was upgraded from WIndows 8.1 to Windows 10 Pro and now my wifi adapter has a Red X on it in the Device Manager.  I tried several Driver updates and none seem to work. It is also disabled in the Network Connections area.  I tried to enable it but it continues to show disabled. Using the auto update method did not find any drivers. This is the adapter with the Red X on it. BCM20702A0 Thanks,Kevin

OS: Windows 7
Hardware: Sony VAIO
Powered by: AC
History: The computer is about 2 years old and the symptoms described below started either abruptly or gradually some 2-3 months ago.

Symptoms: The network access icon in the right of my task bar will show 4-5 bars of signal strength. I'll leave the computer for several hours and when I come back, it shows 0 bars with a red x over it. I click it, select troubleshoot and the Windows Network Diagnostics window pops up and says "Problems found"; A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken" - Detected; "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" - Fixed, upon which the icon goes back to 4 or 5 bars and I resume my network connectivity. This takes all of one minute or less.

However, if I need to do a lengthy download, this unexpected action will stop the download in the middle of the night.

1) I tried a side-by-side comparison with another laptop and the Sony VAIO lost the network connection in the manner described above while the other computer didn't.
2) I went to Manage Wireless Networks, removed all networks (including my home network) and then rebuilt the wireless networks by re-entering my home network. I was then able to access my network. However, the wireless network adapter still shut off in the middle of the night.
3) I went to Power Settings/Change advanced power settings/Advanced settings/Wireless Adapter Settings/Power Saving Mode and obse... Read more

I have a Desktop computer, and its running Windows XP, and for some reason i cant connect to the network using my USB Wifi addapter. It use to work, but then suddenly it stoped working after my computer froze while playing a game. Anyways, its just says that "not connected". I tried refreshing the network list, but still doesnt work. I have also checked multiple times if i put the correct password and its correct! Sometimes it connects and i try opening IE or Chrome and IE says: " Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". And Google Chrome says: "ERROR 106 (net::ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED): The Internet Connection has been lost". I also checked Windows Firewall and checked if Windows Firewall was blocking these two. But it wasn't. And there are times when it connects, but then disconects. And its weird becuse my iPod Touch and my brother's laptop have no problems connecting to the network. So i dont know how to fix this anymore. And i have this problem for about 4 months already. PLEASE HELP ME!

A:Can not connect to Network in my Windows XP Desktop using Belkin USB Wifi Adapter

you could try logging into the router and removing the wireless security and see if it can then connect - if it can , add the security back on and see if connects

can we see a device manager screen shot - also try a tcp/ip reset
Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.
