I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having the exact problem (krustyzworld) had. I have an ATT 2701 2 wire modem/router that drops off when I use my wireless laptop, it works fine when I use a Ethernet cable connection. I have tried a second ATT 2701 with the same results. The only difference between (krustyzworld) and myself is I have the correct power source and my power light don't change (it stays on steady). What happens to me is that first the internet light goes out than the green dsl light goes flashing red, in less than a minute everthing returns to normal until the next random drop off.

OK, here's the situation. I have a Dell E1505 laptop with Windows Vista that I use as my main computer. I am connected to the internet with a 2wire2701HG-T router/modem. I just bought a Acer Aspire One D250 with Windows 7 Starter and connected it wirelessly to the network. Now, however, when the Dell is connected to the modem by ethernet, my preferred connection for security, speed, and battery issues, the internet connection on the Acer slows down to nothing and soon disconnects. After a bit, it reconnects, but is still very slow, only to disconnect again. However, when I connect the Dell by wireless, everything works normally. Is this a modem problem, or is it an issue with one of the computers? I must admit, my networking skills don't go beyond being able to set up a network name and password.

I am posting this but admittedly do not have all of the information I am sure will be needed with me right now. Our entire office runs on wireless connections (laptops, printers, desktops, etc) and we have little to no connectivity issues considering. However, we just purchased a new dell laptop. the laptop connected but within 5 seconds immediate loses the connection and reconnects, disconnects, etc.. This is continuous. All other devices, 2 other never-before connected laptops and a tablet have all sucessfully connected without issues...only this new dell laptop does it. The laptop connects and stays connected to all other wifi connections we have tried it with (other corporate wifi and home wifi's). Dell has replaced the wireless card to confirm there was not issue with that (which I was confident there wasn't). Our IT contact suggests buying a new $500 router, but that is a little hard for me to accept seeing that only 1 device is having difficulties (his other reason for this was his concern that he couldn't access something like the router's management tool, or something like that). I am confident this is something as simple as a software setting or something. New Laptop is running W7 OS...that's really all the facts I have available right now. Any ideas from anyone? From seeing other similar posts I am hopefull there is help out there for me

Welcome to TSG.
Ok;Just to clarify.
This laptop will connect successfully to other wireless networks and stay connected ?
First thing I might try,if you can,is disable encryption on the router for a test.Any change ?
If you cannot access the router's admin page, that's a problem.
Is mac address filtering enabled on the router.

I am trying to set up a wireless MAC lap top to AT&T 2701HG-B, when I went through the AT&T tech support they were unable to get the lap top to sync with the modem. They said I was going to need to bring the lap top to an Apple store and have them change some settings,,,,,I sure there's any easier fix than that. Anyone have any ideas of what could be happening? Thanks!!!!

Hi everyone, I have a 2wire 2701HGV-W Gateway but have been having problems with my connection lately.
I was wondering if I can use the standard modem that came from Telstra, and plug it into the 2701, as my computer is in a different room to the phone line so I need something to send out the wireless signal.
Are there any changes I should make on the 2wire to make sure that they don't conflict?
Cheers,

Previously I had DSL modem connected to WRT54GR, and desktop hard wired to it. Also have a Dell laptop with wireless card connecting to router wirelessly. Desktop has no wireless card. (Computer room is on 2nd floor)

ISP provider has upgraded the modem to 2wire wireless router/modem. We did tests within the house and I have 6 Mb availability where line enters the house (basement), but only 4Mb
because of older wiring in the house.

It was suggested that for max speed I could put the 2wire in basement, and connect to it wirelessly. Not a problem for the Dell.

My question: Is there a way to have the WRT54GR on 2nd floor and connect my Desktop to it hardwired, and communicate with the 2 wire wireless modem/router? Can this set up be used instead of putting a wireless card in my desktop?

A client of mine has a very large house and wants to extend the range of his wireless signal. He is able to get signal everywhere except the kitchen.

Which range extender or access point is the best one to pair up with 2Wire's modem/wireless router?

If there is not a reliable one, then I could just use Linksys products.

I could hook up a WRT54G to the 2wire and have that be a hard connection, and then get a WAP54G to act as a repeater. Or, should I get two WAP54G's and not get the WRT54G and set it up the same way I just described? And would I set up the 2Wire as a bridge? Is that possible? Links as to how?

Thanks.

I have had issues trying to setup this wireless network up for a few days. please help me if you can, as im close to using hammers and impact drills.

I have the 2Wire (2701HGV-W) wireless DSL modem from telstra bigpond, which was supplying my house with wireless internet. the wireless network from the 2Wire is a secured network and works fine, but the signal is too weak and keeps dropping out in the upstairs study, which is where its needed.

so i bought a external wireless antenna which i attached to a wireless router i had laying around, its a TP-LINK (TL-WR642G) this one has a connector for external antennas.

from the 2Wire modem, i hooked up using ethernet cable the TP-LINK wireles router. i tried to connect teh upstirs computer, as expected 2 wireless networks were displayed (2Wire-secured and TP-LINK- unsecured).

here is where the problem starts, the signals get mixed up. both networks show full signal strength, but if i connect to the 2Wire the signal will drop to "very low", and it just wont connect to the TP-LINK network.

what im i missing here? any help would be very much appretiated.

Thanks

Configure the channel of the secondary router to be different from the primary router. Keep them at least four channels apart. Configure both of them with the same SSID and encryption key, and you'll have seamless networking (well close) between them. You can use this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector to find the clearest channels.

The secondary router should also be configured as follows to create a single network where all the connected devices are peers.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port t... Read more

Hi all,
My dad recently brought a Belkin N+ wireless modem router for my parents home and asked me to set it up for him (as he is not very tech-savy). I set the router up with no problems whilst the rents were away in Malta on holiday and had no problems for about 4 days.

When they arrived back the internet was still fine until the next day when for no apparent reason the connection dropped and i had to power cycle it to make it work again. Now at least once a say the router will drop the connection and i have no idea why. I have tried every logical combination of settings and i cannot stop it from dropping the connection.

I've called up Belkin tech support but they were useless and told me to try everything I have already tried which is:

Static IP.
Fixed DNS.
Power cycling.
Firmware update.
Checking the log file.
Restoring defaults.
Turning the firewall off.
Adding MAC addresses of the relevant computers to the routers "safe" list.
Port forwarding ...

And the list goes on.

All i can think of now is to call BT and post my Router settings here (these are the most stable settings i've found so far).
Can someone please check out these settings and make sure i haven't done somethign incredibly stupid? I am a software engineering student and fairly confident of my abilities but it would be nice to have another opinion (not Belkins).

Other computers with Windows 7 and XP are working fine.

My husband talked with a Linksys rep (who was not very helpful) but issue is still occurring. I am hoping some of the experts here can help me.

Thank you!

Have been using my new Lynksys wireless G router at home for several months with no problems. Suddenly, both laptops (one connected by ethernet cable, the other wireless) lose internet connection freqently (10 to 15 times a day). Using Charter Cable for ISP. Both laptops still have connection to the router and the Charter cable modem box shows all green lights with internet connected. The only way to get it back is to power cycle the router. Just unplug it (the power cord) and plug it back in and all is well...for a while, then it loses connection again. Have done extensive troubleshooting with Charter and found nothing. No service outages or intermittent service. Any ideas would be apprecitated. Do I need to replace the router? Have not tried connecting one of my machines directly to the cable modem. I guess I will do that next but thought someone may have heard of this problem before. Thanks for your help.

A:my new laptop loses connection when i move away from router

It could be the wireless channel number that your router is set to that's too low, or someone next door or nearby is using same channel number as you are.

Open your router's configuration page in any web-browser, go to wireless settings and set channel number to 9, 10, or 11 (higher is better, but sometimes you just have choose a channel that's not being used by anyone near you (trial and error of course, since you don't know who's using which channel).

After changing channel remember to save the new setting before leaving that page.

Your laptop's wifi should automatically adjust to the new channel number without you having to enter the wireless key again.

I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router.

It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. Stupidly, I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!)

It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this.

The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

I don't know if this is possible, but this is what I want to do:
Have the dsl modem router and linksys voip connected together.
I want the voip router to assign dhcp and the dsl modem router to
be used to get internet access but not assign dhcp (I think)

This is why I want it:

I have 8 wireless linksys cam's configured through the voip router.
Setting the cam's to the modem router didn't work well because of
AT&T's firewall cannot be disabled, only modified to open ports. It's frustrating as when I opened the ports for the cam's, a consistant "an unknown error has occured". So I opted to just set up the cams on the linksys router as the cams are also linksys as well. Thus, figuring they would communicate better anyway.

This is my problem:

When I connect the dsl modem router to the
WAN port on the linksys router, the dsl modem assigns it
a fixed LAN ip. What I want is the linksys router to pull a WAN ip so I can log into my cam's remotely from my laptop at home.
No matter what I do, disable dhcp on linksys router, set linksys router on the dsl modem router to DMZ, set linksys router to bridge mode.....
nothing seems to work.

All I want to do is configure the linksys router so that when I go to my internet explorer on my laptop and type in "99.xxx.xxx.xx:1024 to connect to the cam's. But when I go to linksys router config. pages to see the status, the internet ip is 192.168.1.64 which is a LAN address assi... Read more

I recently picked up a Gateway laptop that's got a Broadcom netwok card inside of it. Currently, I'm with Bell Sympatico for an ISP, who gave me a wireless router. The two desktops I've got hardlined to it work fine, but the wireless connection on the laptop refuses to connect to it. So far we've been hooked into 2 other people within range, but obviously, that's not something I just want to sweep under the rug.

I called Bell's tech support and they claimed that Broadcom apparently wasn't compatible with their service for some reason and to contact Broadcom, who don't seem to have a 1-800 number nor a tech support e-mail; and there's no way I'm calling up California from where I'm at in Canada.

Bell's tech support is notorius for being crap, so I'm hoping that someone here can help me figure something out and get this all to work out.

If there's any other info you need, just let me know, otherwise thanks in advance.

Then, when I create a wireless security password (WPA2 personal) I lose internet connection, and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset of the router. This also happens if I change any setting within the ddwrt interface, not just the wireless settings. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? (I also have a linksys WRT54GL with ddwrt with absolutely no problems) My cable modem is a motorola surfboard SB5101U, ISP is comcast cable, running windows 7. Thanks in advance!

Whenever I change the password on my desktop, the wireless laptop can no longer print to the USB printer that's on the desktop PC. I have to delete the printer icon on the laptop and create a new one. Is this normal and expected or is there a way around this? I had the printer on a network server once but it quit working so I just plugged it back into the PC.

thanks...

As I was experiencing poor wireless performance with my laptop (Dell 1520) and my dlink G router, I purchased and set up a N router. When I try to connect to the router with the laptop, I am asked to provide a username, password and logon domain; I was expecting to only have to enter a security code.

Have I configured the home n router incorrectly or do i need to purchase a n card for the laptop?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey everyone,

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1505) connects to my router (Dynex, which is a Belkin but renamed to make it cheap) and I can configure the router properties from it, but I cannot see the other computer on the network, (This one, which means that the wired connection is working. I can wire the laptop to the router and it will work perfect.) I cannot connect to the internet either, even though it says full speed and excelent connection.

I have read over the other posts and tryed changing the channels, (I have tryed 1, 6, and 11), I have disabled firewalls, and all security as far as I can tell, and I have tryed changing the ip adress to other numbers just incase my modem was conflicting in some way. I have tryed connecting to other networks (the one at borders and starbucks) and it still does the same thing.

I have just got this new Acer Aspire 8930 Laptop about 2 days ago and setting it up was not much of a hustle. I have managed to connect it to the internet and with my primitive Thomson Speedtouch 536 managed to get my laptop connected via the router to the my main PC, so I could share files easily between the 2.

The problem is that just a few hours ago the laptop started to lose connection a few minutes after I turn it on and I am not able to reestablish it unless I restart the laptop. The laptop connects fine when i start up and I can surf the internet perfectly but after a minute or so the connection is lost and the connection status (Im using vista btw) shows the yellow Limited Connectivity, pointing at the router as the problem. The strange thing is that even when I pull the UDP plug off the laptop, it still shows Limited Connectivity, unlike the red Conenction Lost or something that it should show. But the internet works perfectly for this computer, which uses the same router, but not by UDP (the Speedtouch doesn't have 2 UDP slots)

The Laptop has had it's internet working properly, don't know why it is just turning off moments after start up all of a sudden. I don't even know what triggered it come to think of it. All I did was install Silent Hunter III and installed uTorrent to download the Greywolves mod for it. Anyone might know what I could do to fix this frustrating problem? Suggestions appropriated.

Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000

Wireless internet picks up signal great, and as long as it's not plugged into the wall to charge wireless works fine, but once you plug it up to charge it'll take anywhere from 5-20 minutes and it'll lose connection. About 1-2 minutes later it will automatically reconnect. Then a few minutes later it will disconnect and reconnect again. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks
Cody

How to fix Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop so it connects to wireless internet and via cable (Virgin Media Router)?
Hi all, please help!I have not been able to connect to the internet on my home WIFI network/via cable or the WIFI at work since Monday evening I have restarted my laptop and reset the "D Link D1-524 High Speed Router" several times - separately and simultaneously according to my laptop and Virgin Media's instructions over the phone. I have also called Dell who have not helped at all.Are there any drivers I can download from the Dell website to fix this issue or another safe program I can download? I want to download drivers or programs to a USB and transfer the files to my laptop...as I have no internet access. My computer wireless menu states the following:Unidentified NetworkNo Internet AccessThen it shows a list of NetworksMy Network - Connected/Limited AccessPlease help I want to sort this out asap! Thanks!

Did you power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Power on the ISP modem router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on your wireless router(if any)

start, all programs, accessories, right click on cammand prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

ipconfig /release          (space between the g and /)

Restart your computer. Try to connect. What happens?

Does your wireless router have these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11?

What operating system are you using?

Just purchased a Linksys WRT54G2 router so my wife can surf indepently in the house. The problem is that in trying to connect with the installation software I cannot find connection instructions. This is because 2 years ago when my daughter was home with her laptop computer we connected a very similar Linksys router. When I insert the CD-ROM to get instructions the software says "it appears you already have a router connected." and since this is the only way to make the connections I have to try and find the proper connection method here. The dsl modem is a Westell 6100.

OK, I'm having some trouble with my DSL connection. Right now it's working, but it's starting to slow down again which means that I'm soon to be disconnected totally. My provider says that nothing is wrong on their end (which I've confirmed with 2 neighbors) so it must be on my end.

My connection starts to work REALLY slowly and then eventually just quits working altogether. My "status" light on my DSL modem/router is completely black, the other lights are green, however, the LAN light is blinking furiously (I don't really know if it's always been that way or not... )

Anyway, I called the "tech support" people at my provider, and they walked me though some steps that seemed to alleviate the problem for now, but I want it stopped permanently!

I put in the "IP address" (shown on the IPconfig command prompt) into firefox's address bar and it pulled up the Zoom information page and I went to the system status portion like I was told to do, but there was NO IP ADDRESS!! NONE!! So we cycled the modem--nothing. We powered down the computers--nothing. I unplugged the ethernet cable from one port and moved it to another--PRESTO!! The internet works again!

I'm not even sure why this worked the way it did, because my laptop is wirelessly connected....why did changing the port of my desktop do anything? Or was it just chance? And how do I keep this from happening? Ideas?? Suggestions?? Anyone??

Hi everyone,

I'm fed up with my slow DSL connection. It takes forever to load pages, images, etc.

I have a 2wire wireless modem model 2700HG-B attached to a 2-year old iMac desktop. It worked fine until a few months ago when I bought a Belkin N wireless router.

Internet connection on the desktop slowed down completely. I even upgraded DSL plans in hopes of getting a faster connection!

To bandage the problem, I have to unplug the Belkin N wireless router every time I want to work on the desktop. It's too much of a pain. Is it because I have 2 wireless modems? Any detailed advice with be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A:2wire wireless modem is slooooow

Your 2wire unit already incorporates a wireless router, which makes the Belkin router unnecessary. And yes they will conflict with each other..

Oh the hassles!!! Just when I had the port forwarding perfected for my modem/router, I decide to go wireless.

My modem router is D-Link DSL-504G

My wirelss router is Netgear WGR614v7

My laptop is running XP

My webcam is Logitech Pro and I broadcast using UBroadcast on port 8080

OK, in the old days I would port forward from the D-Link IP 10.1.1.2 to port 8080

Now, I went to portforward.com and followed their instructions for the Netgear and portforwarded IP 192.168.1.136 to port 8080

Sooooooo, what do I portforward the D-link to now????

See if you can see out my window on my webcam. In WMP, File, Open URL, and put in
http://ladeda.no-ip.info:8080

Thanks in advance.

PS I don't think I am broadcasting...

Hi

I have the 2701HG wireless router which I used to connect when I had th ATT DSL broadband connection.

Now I have switched to the Cable internet and I want to use thsi wireless router to connect to the cable modem so that I get a wireless connection in my home.

Is there a way I can use the existing wireless router as the input which this router is looking for is DSL signal, but I am connecting this with the cable modem through the ethernet port and I am able to get the wireless signal but it does not connect to internet.

A:2Wire 2701HG connection with cable modem

Here's the userguide for 2701 series dsl modem/gateways from 2wire. http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/5100-000326-000.Rev.A.pdf
Being that your cable is connected via ethernet to the 2wire, the best you can probably do is to use the 2wire as a switch, so no dhcp from the 2wire.
Wireless routers are cheap and plentiful these days. Compusa had a Trendnet for 5 bucks!

I know this topic has been on here before, but I can't find one specific to mine. Here's what's going on:

I had my desktop & wireless router all hooked up (DSL internet) and running fine in one room. I moved the desktop to another room, so i disconnected everything to move it and hooked it back up in the new room (different phone jack).

When the wires are plugged in, it registers on the modem and on the router that I have the internet connection.

The Desktop picks up the LAC but I'm assuming its just picking up the router power and not the actual connection, because it will not let me connect to the internet.

The laptop connects to the network but not the internet.

I have the DSL line plugged into the modem; a network cable running from that to the 'internet' port on the router, and another ethernet cable running from an ethernet port on the router to the network port on the pc (sounds right, right?) lol.

Here's the catch...If I disconnect the router altogether, and connect the network cable directly from the modem to the pc or laptop, viola I can access the internet.

As you can probably tell, I've done lots of trial & error in this process. I'm thinking there's a setup or configuring thing I may be missing. I guess my mind is thinking that something like that shouldn't have to be done considering it's all hardware that was connected and installed and configured before. I'm not ... Read more
